Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) detected at high redshift can be used to trace the Hubble diagram of the Universe. However, the distance calibration of GRBs is not as easily as that of type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia). For the calibrating method based on the empirical luminosity correlations, there is an underlying assumption that the correlations should be universal over the whole redshift range. In this paper, we investigate the possible redshift dependence of six luminosity correlations with a completely model-independent deep learning method. We construct a network combining the Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN) and the Bayesian Neural Networks (BNN), where RNN is used to reconstruct the distance-redshift relation by training the network with the Pantheon compilation, and BNN is used to calculate the uncertainty of the reconstruction. Using the reconstructed distance-redshift relation of Pantheon, we test the redshift dependence of six luminosity correlations by dividing the full GRB sample into two subsamples (low-$z$ and high-$z$ subsamples), and find that only the $E_p-E_γ$ relation has no evidence for redshift dependence. We use the $E_p-E_γ$ relation to calibrate GRBs, and the calibrated GRBs give tight constraint on the flat $Λ$CDM model, with the best-fitting parameter $Ω_{\rm M}$=0.307$^{+0.065}_{-0.073}$.
In this paper, we calibrate the Amati relation (the $E_{\rm p}$-${E}_{\rm iso}$ correlation) of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) in a cosmology-independent way. By using Gaussian process to reconstruct the smoothed luminosity distance from the Pantheon type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) sample, we utilize the reconstructed results to calibrate the $E_{\rm p}$-${E}_{\rm iso}$ correlation with the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method and construct a Hubble diagram with the A220 GRB data, in which there are A118 GRB data with the higher qualities appropriate for cosmological purposes. With 98 GRBs at $1.4<z\leq8.2$ i…
Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are widely proposed as an effective probe to trace the Hubble diagram of the Universe in high redshift range. However, the calibration of GRBs is not as easy as that of type-Ia supernovae (SNe Ia). Most calibrating methods at present make use one or some of the empirical luminosity correlations, e.g., Amati relation. One of the underlying assumptions of these calibrating methods is that the empirical correlation is universal over all redshifts. In this paper, we check to what extent this assumption holds. Assuming that SNe Ia exactly trace the Hubble diagram of the Univ…

We propose a new model-independent strategy to calibrate the distance relation in Type Ia supernova (SN) observations and to probe the intrinsic properties of SNe Ia, especially the absolute magnitude $M_B$, basing on strong lensing observations in the upcoming Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) era. The strongly lensed quasars can provide the Time Delay Distances (TDD) and the Angular Diameter Distances (ADD) to the lens galaxies. These absolute distance measurements can model-independently anchor the SNe Ia at cosmological distances. We simulated 55 high-quality lensing systems with $5\%…
Thanks to their enormous energy release which allows to detect them up to very high redshift, Gamma Rays Bursts (GRBs) have recently attracted a lot of interest to probe the Hubble diagram (HD) deep into the matter dominated era and hence complement Type Ia Supernoave (SNeIa). However, lacking a local GRBs sample, calibrating the scaling relations proposed as an equivalent to the Phillips law to standardize GRBs is not an easy task because of the need to estimate the GRBs luminosity distance in a model independent way. We consider here three different calibration methods based on the use of a …
We alleviate the circularity problem, whereby gamma-ray bursts are not perfect distance indicators, by means of a new model-independent technique based on Bézier polynomials. To do so, we use the well consolidate \textit{Amati} and \textit{Combo} correlations. We consider improved calibrated catalogs of mock data from differential Hubble rate points. To get our mock data, we use those machine learning scenarios that well adapt to gamma ray bursts, discussing in detail how we handle small amounts of data from our machine learning techniques. In particular, we explore only three machine learning…
We study statistical properties of long gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) produced by the collapsing cores of WR stars in binary systems. Fast rotation of the cores enables a two-stage collapse scenario, implying the formation of a spinar-like object. A burst produced by such a collapse consists of two pulses, whose energy budget is enough to explain observed GRBs. We calculate models of spinar evolution using results from a population synthesis of binary systems (done by the `Scenario Machine') as initial parameters for the rotating massive cores. Among the resulting bursts, events with the weaker firs…
Long duration gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) mark the explosive death of some massive stars and are a rare sub-class of Type Ibc supernovae (SNe Ibc). They are distinguished by the production of an energetic and collimated relativistic outflow powered by a central engine (an accreting black hole or neutron star). Observationally, this outflow is manifested in the pulse of gamma-rays and a long-lived radio afterglow. To date, central engine-driven SNe have been discovered exclusively through their gamma-ray emission, yet it is expected that a larger population goes undetected due to limited satellite …
We investigate the nature of high-z host galaxies of long Gamma-Ray Bursts (LGRBs) by means of state-of-the-art numerical simulations of cosmic structure formation and evolution of galaxies. We combine results from different runs with various box sizes and resolutions. By assigning to each simulated galaxy the probability to host a LGRB, assumed to be proportional to the mass of young stars, we provide a full description of the physical properties of high-z LGRB host galaxy population. We find that LGRBs at z>6 are hosted in galaxies with typical star formation rates SFR \sim 0.03-0.3 Msun yr^…
Recent observations support the hypothesis that a large fraction of "short-hard" gamma-ray bursts (SHBs) are associated with compact binary inspiral. Since gravitational-wave (GW) measurements of well-localized inspiraling binaries can measure absolute source distances, simultaneous observation of a binary's GWs and SHB would allow us to independently determine both its luminosity distance and redshift. Such a "standard siren" (the GW analog of a standard candle) would provide an excellent probe of the relatively nearby universe's expansion, complementing other standard candles. In this paper,…
An improved Amati correlation was constructed in (ApJ 931 (2022) 50) by us recently. In this paper, we further study constraints on the $Λ$CDM and $w$CDM models from the gamma ray bursts (GRBs) standardized with the standard and improved Amati correlations, respectively. By using the Pantheon type Ia supernova sample to calibrate the latest A220 GRB data set, the GRB Hubble diagram is obtained model-independently. We find that at the high redshift region ($z>1.4$) the GRB distance modulus from the improved Amati correlation is larger apparently than that from the standard Amati one. The GRB da…
Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have been regarded as standard candles at very high redshift for cosmology research. We have proposed a new method to calibrate GRB distance indicators with Type Ia supernova (SNe Ia) data in a completely cosmology-independent way to avoid the circularity problem that had limited the direct use of GRBs to probe cosmology [N. Liang, W. K. Xiao, Y. Liu, and S. N. Zhang, Astrophys. J. 685, 354 (2008).]. In this paper, a simple method is provided to combine GRB data into the joint observational data analysis to constrain cosmological models; in this method those SNe Ia data…
In this paper, we constrain the Cardassian expansion models from the latest observations including the updated Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), which calibrated cosmology-independently from the Union2 compilation of type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia). By combining the GRB data to the joint observations with the Union2 SNe Ia set, along with the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation observation from the seven-year Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe result, the baryonic acoustic oscillation observation from the spectroscopic Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release galaxy sample, we find significant constraints…
We investigate the fraction of baryon mass in intergalactic medium ($f_\mathrm{IGM}$), using 18 well-localized FRBs in the redshift range $z\in (0.0039,0.66)$. We construct a five-parameter Bayesian inference model, with the probability distributions of dispersion measures (DM) of IGM and host galaxy properly taken into account. To check the possible redshift evolution, we parameterize $f_\mathrm{IGM}$ as a mildly evolving function of redshift, $f_\mathrm{IGM}=f_\mathrm{IGM,0}[1+αz/(1+z)]$. By simultaneously constraining five parameters, we get $f_\mathrm{IGM,0} = 0.92^{+0.06}_{-0.12}$ and $α=…
The dynamics of the Universe are revised using high-redshift data from gamma-ray bursts to constrain cosmographic parameters by means of model-independent techniques. Considering samples from four gamma-ray burst correlations and two hierarchies up to $j_0$ and $s_0$, respectively, we derived limits over the expansion history of the Universe. Since cosmic data span outside $z\simeq0$, we investigated additional cosmographic methods such as auxiliary variables and Padé approximations. Beziér polynomials were employed to calibrate our correlations and heal the circularity problem. Several Markov…
Gamma-ray bursts are cosmological sources emitting radiation from the gamma-rays to the radio band. Substantial observational efforts have been devoted to the study of GRBs during the prompt phase, i.e. the initial burst of high-energy radiation, and during the longer-lasting afterglows. In spite of many successes in interpreting these phenomena there are still several open key questions about the fundamental emission processes, their energetics and the environment. Moreover, independently of their modeling, GRB spectra are remarkably simple, being satisfactorily fitted with power-laws, and th…
Because massive, low-metallicity population III (PopIII) stars may produce very powerful long gamma-ray bursts (LGRBs), high-redshift GRB observations could probe the properties of the first stars. We analyze the correlation between early PopIII stars and LGRBs by using cosmological N-body/hydrodynamical simulations, which include detailed chemical evolution, cooling, star formation, feedback effects and the transition between PopIII and more standard population I/II (PopII/I) stars. From the Swift observed rate of LGRBs, we estimate the fraction of black holes that will produce a GRB from Pop…
In this paper, we obtain two improved Amati correlations of the Gamma-Ray burst (GRB) data via a powerful statistical tool called copula. After calibrating, with the low-redshift GRB data, the improved Amati correlations based on a fiducial $Λ$CDM model with $Ω_\mathrm{m0}=0.3$ and $H_0=70~\mathrm{km~s^{-1}Mpc^{-1}}$, and extrapolating the results to the high-redshift GRB data, we obtain the Hubble diagram of GRB data points. Applying these GRB data to constrain the $Λ$CDM model, we find that the improved Amati correlation from copula can give a result well consistent with $Ω_\mathrm{m0}=0.3$,…
For the use of Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) to probe cosmology in a cosmology-independent way, a new method has been proposed to obtain luminosity distances of GRBs by interpolating directly from the Hubble diagram of SNe Ia, and then calibrating GRB relations at high redshift. In this paper, following the basic assumption in the interpolation method that objects at the same redshift should have the same luminosity distance, we propose another approach to calibrate GRB luminosity relations with cosmographic fitting directly from SN Ia data. In cosmography, there is a well-known fitting formula whic…
