Lattices of polynomial KP and BKP $τ$-functions labelled by partitions, with the flow variables equated to finite power sums, as well as associated multipair KP and multipoint BKP correlation functions are expressed via generalizations of Jacobi's bialternant formula for Schur functions and Nimmo's Pfaffian ratio formula for Schur $Q$-functions. These are obtained by applying Wick's theorem to fermionic vacuum expectation value representations in which the infinite group element acting on the lattice of basis states stabilizes the vacuum.
We introduce hypergeometric functions related to projective Schur functions $Q_λ$ and describe their properties. Linear equations, integral representations and Pfaffian representations are obtained. These hypergeometric functions are vacuum expectations of free fermion fields, and thus these functions are tau functions of the so-called BKP hierarchy of integrable equations.
It is well-known that a BKP tau-function is the square root of a certain KP tau-function, provided one puts the even KP times equal to zero. In this paper we compute for all polynomial BKP tau-function its corresponding KP "square". We also give, in the polynomial case, a representation theoretical proof of a recent result by Alexandov, viz. that a KdV tau-function becomes a BKP tau-function when one divides all KdV times by 2.
We show that any polynomial tau-function of the s-component KP and the BKP hierarchies can be interpreted as a zero mode of an appropriate combinatorial generating function. As an application, we obtain explicit formulas for all polynomial tau-functions of these hierarchies in terms of Schur polynomials and Q-Schur polynomials respectively. We also obtain formulas for polynomial tau-functions of the reductions of the s-component KP hierarchy associated to partitions in s parts.
I present a set of remarks related to joint works \cite{paper1},\cite{paper2},\cite{paper3},\cite{MMNO}. These are remarks about polynomials solutions and vertex operators, eigenproblem for polynomials and a remark related to the the conjecture of Alexandrov and Mironov, Morozov about the ratios of the projective Schur functions. New results on the bilinear relations between characters of the symmetric and of the Sergeev group and on bilinear relations between skew Schur and projective Schur functions and also between shifted Schur and projective Schur functions are added. Certain new matrix m…
We consider $d$-fold branched coverings of the projective plane $\mathbb{RP}^2$ and show that the hypergeometric tau function of the BKP hierarchy of Kac and van de Leur is the generating function for weighted sums of the related Hurwitz numbers. In particular we get the $\mathbb{RP}^2$ analogues of the $\mathbb{CP}^1$ generating functions proposed by Okounkov and by Goulden and Jackson. Other examples are Hurwitz numbers weighted by the Hall-Littlewood and by the Macdonald polynomials. We also consider integrals of tau functions which generate projective Hurwitz numbers and Hurwitz numbers re…
We derive a bilinear expansion expressing elements of a lattice of KP $τ$-functions, labelled by partitions, as a sum over products of pairs of elements of an associated lattice of BKP $τ$-functions, labelled by strict partitions. This generalizes earlier results relating determinants and Pfaffians of minors of skew symmetric matrices, with applications to Schur functions and Schur $Q$-functions. It is deduced using the representations of KP and BKP $τ$-functions as vacuum expectation values (VEV's) of products of fermionic operators of charged and neutral type, respectively. The lattice is ge…
In this paper, we prove a conjecture of Alexandrov that the generalized Brezin-Gross-Witten tau-functions are hypergeometric tau functions of BKP hierarchy after re-scaling. In particular, this shows that the original BGW tau-function, which has enumerative geometric interpretations, can be represented as a linear combination of Schur Q-polynomials with simple coefficients.
Using matrix model, Mironov and Morozov recently gave a formula which represents Kontsevich-Witten tau-function as a linear expansion of Schur Q-polynomials. In this paper, we will show directly that the Q-polynomial expansion in this formula satisfies the Virasoro constraints, and consequently obtain a proof of this formula without using matrix model. We also give a proof for Alexandrov's conjecture that Kontsevich-Witten tau-function is a hypergeometric tau-function of the BKP hierarchy after re-scaling.

We continue investigating the superintegrability property of matrix models, i.e. factorization of the matrix model averages of characters. This paper focuses on the Gaussian Hermitian example, where the role of characters is played by the Schur functions. We find a new intriguing corollary of superintegrability: factorization of an infinite set of correlators bilinear in the Schur functions. More exactly, these are correlators of products of the Schur functions and polynomials $K_Δ$ that form a complete basis in the space of invariant matrix polynomials. Factorization of these correlators with…
We express the topological expansion of the Jacobi Unitary Ensemble in terms of triple monotone Hurwitz numbers. This completes the combinatorial interpretation of the topological expansion of the classical unitary invariant matrix ensembles. We also provide effective formulae for generating functions of multipoint correlators of the Jacobi Unitary Ensemble in terms of Wilson polynomials, generalizing the known relations between one point correlators and Wilson polynomials.
We develop a new framework to compute the exact correlators of characteristic polynomials, and their inverses, in random matrix theory. Our results hold for general potentials and incorporate the effects of an external source. In matrix model realizations of string theory, these correspond to correlation functions of exponentiated "(anti-)branes" in a given background of "momentum branes". Our method relies on expanding the (inverse) determinants in terms of Schur polynomials, then re-summing their expectation values over the allowed representations of the symmetric group. Beyond unifying prev…
We consider the Laguerre partition function, and derive explicit generating functions for connected correlators with arbitrary integer powers of traces in terms of products of Hahn polynomials. It was recently proven that correlators have a topological expansion in terms of weakly or strictly monotone Hurwitz numbers, that can be explicitly computed from our formulae. As a second result we identify the Laguerre partition function with only positive couplings and a special value of the parameter $α=-1/2$ with the modified GUE partition function, which has recently been introduced as a generatin…
We extend the approach to $τ$-functions as Widom constants developed by Cafasso, Gavrylenko and Lisovyy to orthogonal loop group Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchies and isomonodromic deformations systems. The combinatorial expansion of the $τ$-function as a sum of correlators, each expressed as products of finite determinants, follows from using multicomponent fermionic vacuum expectation values of certain dressing operators encoding the initial conditions and the dependence on the flow (or deformation) parameters. When reduced to the orthogonal case, these correlators become finite Pfaffians and the…
The KP and 2D Toda tau-functions of hypergeometric type that serve as generating functions for weighted single and double Hurwitz numbers are related to the topological recursion programme. A graphical representation of such weighted Hurwitz numbers is given in terms of weighted constellations. The associated classical and quantum spectral spectral curves are derived, and these are interpreted combinatorially in terms of the graphical model. The pair correlators are given a finite Christoffel-Darboux representation and determinantal expressions are obtained for the multipair correlators. The g…
The recently discovered general formulas for perturbative correlators in basic matrix models can be interpreted as the Schur-preservation property of Gaussian measures. Then substitution of Schur by, say, Macdonald polynomials, defines a q,t-deformation of the matrix model. Eigenvalue integral representations and Virasoro-like constraints are immediate consequences.
Multiparametric families of hypergeometric $τ$-functions of KP or Toda type serve as generating functions for weighted Hurwitz numbers, providing weighted enumerations of branched covers of the Riemann sphere. A graphical interpretation of the weighting is given in terms of constellations mapped onto the covering surface. The theory is placed within the framework of topological recursion, with the Baker function at ${\bf t} ={\bf 0}$ shown to satisfy the quantum spectral curve equation, whose classical limit is rational. A basis for the space of formal power series in the spectral variable is …
We study the correlators of irregular vertex operators in two-dimensional conformal field theory (CFT) in order to propose an exact analytic formula for calculating numbers of partitions, that is: 1) for given $N,k$, finding the total number $λ(N|k)$ of length $k$ partitions of $N$: $N=n_1+...+n_k;0<n_1\leq{n_2}...\leq{n_k}$. 2) finding the total number $λ(N)=\sum_{k=1}^Nλ(N|k)$ of partitions of a natural number $N$ We propose an exact analytic expression for $λ(N|k)$ by relating two-point short-distance correlation functions of irregular vertex operators in $c=1$ conformal field theory ( the …
We study the correlators $W_{g,n}$ arising from Orlov-Scherbin 2-Toda tau functions with rational content-weight $G(z)$, at arbitrary values of the two sets of time parameters. Combinatorially, they correspond to generating functions of weighted Hurwitz numbers and $(m,r)$-factorisations of permutations. When the weight function is polynomial, they are generating functions of constellations on surfaces in which two full sets of degrees (black/white) are entirely controlled, and in which internal faces are allowed in addition to boundaries. We give the spectral curve (the "disk" function $W_{0,…
