We express the topological expansion of the Jacobi Unitary Ensemble in terms of triple monotone Hurwitz numbers. This completes the combinatorial interpretation of the topological expansion of the classical unitary invariant matrix ensembles. We also provide effective formulae for generating functions of multipoint correlators of the Jacobi Unitary Ensemble in terms of Wilson polynomials, generalizing the known relations between one point correlators and Wilson polynomials.
Infinitely many Casoratian identities are derived for the Wilson and Askey-Wilson polynomials in parallel to the Wronskian identities for the Hermite, Laguerre and Jacobi polynomials, which were reported recently by the present authors. These identities form the basis of the equivalence between eigenstate adding and deleting Darboux transformations for solvable (discrete) quantum mechanical systems. Similar identities hold for various reduced form polynomials of the Wilson and Askey-Wilson polynomials, e.g. the continuous q-Jacobi, continuous (dual) (q-)Hahn, Meixner-Pollaczek, Al-Salam-Chihar…
Motivated by the Gaussian symplectic ensemble, Mehta and Wang evaluated the $n$ by $n$ determinant $\det((a+j-i)Γ(b+j+i))$ in 2000. When $a=0$, Ciucu and Krattenthaler computed the associated Pfaffian $\Pf((j-i)Γ(b+j+i))$ with an application to the two dimensional dimer system in 2011. Recently we have generalized the latter Pfaffian formula with a $q$-analogue by replacing the Gamma function by the moment sequence of the little $q$-Jacobi polynomials. On the other hand, Nishizawa has found a $q$-analogue of the Mehta--Wang formula. Our purpose is to generalize both the Mehta-Wang and Nishizaw…
As the third stage of the project multi-indexed orthogonal polynomials, we present, in the framework of 'discrete quantum mechanics' with pure imaginary shifts in one dimension, the multi-indexed Wilson and Askey-Wilson polynomials. They are obtained from the original Wilson and Askey-Wilson polynomials by multiple application of the discrete analogue of the Darboux transformations or the Crum-Krein-Adler deletion of 'virtual state solutions' of type I and II, in a similar way to the multi-indexed Laguerre, Jacobi and (q-)Racah polynomials reported earlier.
In a previous paper, we presented conjectures of the recurrence relations with constant coefficients for the multi-indexed orthogonal polynomials of Laguerre, Jacobi, Wilson and Askey-Wilson types. In this paper we present a proof for the Laguerre and Jacobi cases. Their bispectral properties are also discussed, which give a method to obtain the coefficients of the recurrence relations explicitly. This paper extends to the Laguerre and Jacobi cases the bispectral techniques recently introduced by Gómez-Ullate et al. to derive explicit expressions for the coefficients of the recurrence relation…
The exceptional Racah and q-Racah polynomials are constructed. Together with the exceptional Laguerre, Jacobi, Wilson and Askey-Wilson polynomials discovered by the present authors in 2009, they exhaust the generic exceptional orthogonal polynomials of a single variable.
An alternative derivation is presented of the infinitely many exceptional Wilson and Askey-Wilson polynomials, which were introduced by the present authors in 2009. Darboux-Crum transformations intertwining the discrete quantum mechanical systems of the original and the exceptional polynomials play an important role. Infinitely many continuous Hahn polynomials are derived in the same manner. The present method provides a simple proof of the shape invariance of these systems as in the corresponding cases of the exceptional Laguerre and Jacobi polynomials.
We illustrate how Jordan algebras can provide a framework for the interpretation of certain classes of orthogonal polynomials. The big -1 Jacobi polynomials are eigenfunctions of a first order operator of Dunkl type. We consider an algebra that has this operator (up to constants) as one of its three generators and whose defining relations are given in terms of anticommutators. It is a special case of the Askey-Wilson algebra AW(3). We show how the structure and recurrence relations of the big -1 Jacobi polynomials are obtained from the representations of this algebra. We also present ladder op…
In previous papers, we discussed the recurrence relations of the multi-indexed orthogonal polynomials of the Laguerre, Jacobi, Wilson and Askey-Wilson types. In this paper we explore those of the Racah and $q$-Racah types. For the $M$-indexed ($q$-)Racah polynomials, we derive $3+2M$ term recurrence relations with variable dependent coefficients and $1+2L$ term ($L\geq M+1$) recurrence relations with constant coefficients. Based on the latter, the generalized closure relations and the creation and annihilation operators of the quantum mechanical systems described by the multi-indexed ($q$-)Rac…
Ordinary orthogonal polynomials are uniquely characterized by the three term recurrence relations up to an overall multiplicative constant. We show that the newly discovered M-indexed orthogonal polynomials satisfy 3+2M term recurrence relations with non-trivial initial data of the lowest M+1 members. These include the multi-indexed orthogonal polynomials of Laguerre, Jacobi, Wilson and Askey-Wilson types. The M=0 case is the corresponding classical orthogonal polynomials.
In a previous paper we presented $3+2M$ term recurrence relations with variable dependent coefficients for $M$-indexed orthogonal polynomials of Laguerre, Jacobi, Wilson and Askey-Wilson types. In this paper we present (conjectures of) the recurrence relations with constant coefficients for these multi-indexed orthogonal polynomials. The simplest recurrence relations have $3+2\ell$ terms, where $\ell (\geq M)$ is the degree of the lowest member of the multi-indexed orthogonal polynomials.
We consider the exactly solvable quantum mechanical systems whose eigenfunctions are described by the multi-indexed orthogonal polynomials of Laguerre, Jacobi, Wilson and Askey-Wilson types. Corresponding to the recurrence relations with constant coefficients for the $M$-indexed orthogonal polynomials, it is expected that the systems satisfy the generalized closure relations. In fact we can verify this statement for small $M$ examples. The generalized closure relation gives the exact Heisenberg operator solution of a certain operator, from which the creation and annihilation operators of the s…
Multi-indexed orthogonal polynomials describe eigenfunctions of exactly solvable shape-invariant quantum mechanical systems in one dimension obtained by the method of virtual states deletion. Multi-indexed orthogonal polynomials are labeled by a set of degrees of polynomial parts of virtual state wavefunctions. For multi-indexed orthogonal polynomials of Laguerre, Jacobi, Wilson and Askey-Wilson types, two different index sets may give equivalent multi-indexed orthogonal polynomials. We clarify these equivalences. Multi-indexed orthogonal polynomials with both type I and II indices are proport…
Certain aspects of the integrability/solvability of the Calogero-Sutherland-Moser systems and the Ruijsenaars-Schneider-van Diejen systems with rational and trigonometric potentials are reviewed. The equilibrium positions of classical multi-particle systems and the eigenfunctions of single-particle quantum mechanics are described by the same orthogonal polynomials: the Hermite, Laguerre, Jacobi, continuous Hahn, Wilson and Askey-Wilson polynomials. The Hamiltonians of these single-particle quantum mechanical systems have two remarkable properties, factorization and shape invariance.
The multi-indexed orthogonal polynomials (the Meixner, little $q$-Jacobi (Laguerre), ($q$-)Racah, Wilson, Askey-Wilson types) satisfying second order difference equations were constructed in discrete quantum mechanics. They are polynomials in the sinusoidal coordinates $η(x)$ ($x$ is the coordinate of quantum system) and expressed in terms of the Casorati determinants whose matrix elements are functions of $x$ at various points. By using shape invariance properties, we derive various equivalent determinant expressions, especially those whose matrix elements are functions of the same point $x$.…

Symplectic invariants introduced in math-ph/0702045 can be computed for an arbitrary spectral curve. For some examples of spectral curves, those invariants can solve loop equations of matrix integrals, and many problems of enumerative geometry like maps, partitions, Hurwitz numbers, intersection numbers, Gromov-Witten invariants... The problem is thus to understand what they count, or in other words, given a spectral curve, construct an enumerative geometry problem. This is what we do in a semi-heuristic approach in this article. Starting from a spectral curve, i.e. an integrable system, we us…
