Recent Scanning Tunneling Spectra(STS) measurement on underdoped cuprate discovers the increase of the maximum superconducting transition temperature $T_c$ when the size of charge transfer gap (CTG) is reduced. Applying pressure is another well known method to increase maximum $T_c$. However, these pressure experiments also found another puzzle that $T_c$ is enhanced in underdoped and optimal doped samples but suppressed in overdoped. Here we present a possible mechanism based on the charge fluctuation to explain both these two effects simultaneously. Starting from 3-band Hubbard model, we retrieve the charge fluctuation(CF) between oxygen 2$p^6$ band and copper 3$d^{10}$ band which is ignored in the $t-J$ model. This model is studied via variational Monte Carlo method(VMC).
The two-band model as introduced by Suhl, Matthias and Walker [Phys. Rev. Lett. 3, 551 (1959)] accounts for multiple energy bands in the vicinity of the Fermi energy which could contribute to electron pairing in superconducting systems. Here, extensions of this model are investigated wherein the effects of coupled superconducting order parameters with different symmetries and the presence of strong electron-lattice coupling on the superconducting transition temperature Tc are studied. Substantial enhancements of Tc are obtained from both effects.
Within the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism, the effect of the additional second neighbor hopping t' on the superconducting state of the t-J model is discussed. It is shown that t' plays an important role in enhancing the superconducting transition temperature of the t-J model. It is also shown that the superconducting-state of cuprate superconductors is the conventional Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer like, so that the basic Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer formalism is still valid in quantitatively reproducing the doping dependence of the superconducting gap parameter and superconducting t…
Cichorek et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 94, 107002 (2005)] reported enhancements of the lower critical field Hc1(T) and critical current in superconducting PrOs4Sb12 below a transition temperature Tc3 ~ 0.6 K, and speculated that this reflects a transition between superconducting phases. Features have been observed near Tc3 in other properties, but not in the specific heat. We report muon spin rotation measurements of the penetration depth in the vortex state of PrOs4Sb12 near Hc1(T), that to high accuracy exhibit no anomaly Tc3 and therefore cast doubt on the putative phase transition.
It is shown that the critical temperature for spin-triplet, p-wave superconductivity mediated by spin fluctuations is generically much higher in a Heisenberg ferromagnetic phase than in a paramagnetic one, due to the coupling of the magnons to the longitudinal magnetic susceptibility. Together with the tendency of the low-temperature ferromagnetic transition in very clean Heisenberg magnets to be of first order, this qualitatively explains the phase diagram recently observed in UGe_2.
We report high pressure magnetic susceptibility and electrical resistivity measurements on Ca_{3}Ir_{4}Sn_{13} single crystals up to 60 kbar. These measurements allow us to follow the evolution of the superconducting critical temperature T_c, the resistivity anomaly temperature T*, the superconducting coherence length and the Fermi velocity under pressure. The pressure-temperature phase diagram constructed for Ca_{3}Ir_{4}Sn_{13} shows a dome-shaped pressure dependence of T_c. The initial rise in T_c, which is accompanied by a decrease in T*, is consistent with a reduction in the partial gappi…
We performed AC calorimetry and magnetoresistance measurements under pressure for H || a-axis (easy-magnetization axis) in the novel heavy-fermion superconductor UTe2. Thanks to the thermodynamic information, multiple superconducting phases have been revealed under pressure and magnetic field. The (H,T) phase diagram of superconductivity under pressure displays an abrupt increase of the upper critical field (Hc2) at low temperature and in the high field region, and a strong convex curvature of Hc2 at high temperature. This behavior of Hc2 and the multiple superconducting phases require a state…

The superconducting transition temperature, Tc, of bilayers comprising underdoped La2-xSrxCuO4 films capped by a thin heavily overdoped metallic La1.65Sr0.35CuO4 layer, is found to increase with respect to Tc of the bare underdoped films. The highest Tc is achieved for x = 0.12, close to the 'anomalous' 1/8 doping level, and exceeds that of the optimally-doped bare film. Our data suggest that the enhanced superconductivity is confined to the interface between the layers. We attribute the effect to a combination of the high pairing scale in the underdoped layer with an enhanced phase stiffness …
In the heavily hole-doped iron-based superconductors $A$Fe$_2$As$_2$ ($A=$ K, Rb, and Cs), the electron effective mass increases rapidly with alkali-ion radius. To study how the mass enhancement affects the superconducting state, we measure the London penetration depth $λ(T)$ in clean crystals of $A$Fe$_2$As$_2$ down to low temperature $T\sim0.1$ K. In all systems, the superfluid stiffness $ρ_s(T)=λ^2(0)/λ^2(T)$ can be approximated by a power-law $T$ dependence at low temperatures, indicating the robustness of strong momentum anisotropy in the superconducting gap $Δ(k)$. The power $α$ increase…
We study the hole binding energy and pairing correlations in the three-band Hubbard model coupled to an apical oxygen phonon, by exact diagonalization and constrained-path Monte Carlo simulations. In the physically relevant charge-transfer regime, we find that the hole binding energy is strongly enhanced by the electron-phonon interaction, which is due to a novel potential-energy-driven pairing mechanism involving reduction of both electronic potential energy and phonon related energy. The enhancement of hole binding energy, in combination with a phonon-induced increase of quasiparticle weight…
We report measurements of the pressure dependence of the superconducting transition temperature T_c in single crystal samples of the rare-earth doped superconductor Ca$_{0.73}$La$_{0.27}$Fe$_2$As$_2$. We track T_c with two techniques, via in-plane resistivity measurements and with a resonant tunnel diode oscillator circuit which is sensitive to the skin depth. We show that initially T_c rises steeply with pressure, forming a superconducting dome with a maximum T_c of ~44 K at 20 kbar. We discuss this observation in the context of other electron-doped iron pnictide superconductors, and conclude…
In superconducting ferromagnets for which the Curie temperature $T_{m}$ exceeds the superconducting transition temperature $T_{c}$, it was suggested that ferromagnetic spin fluctuations could lead to superconductivity with p-wave spin triplet Cooper pairing. Using the Stoner model of itinerant ferromagnetism, we study the feedback effect of the p-wave superconductivity on the ferromagnetism. Below $T_{c}$, the ferromagnetism is enhanced by the p-wave superconductivity. At zero temperature, the critical Stoner value for itinerant ferromagnetism is reduced by the strength of the p-wave pairing p…
We report a detailed study, using neutron scattering, transport and magnetization measurements, of the interplay between superconducting (SC) and spin density wave (SDW) order in La2CuO(4+y). Both kinds of order set in below the same critical temperature. However, the SDW order grows with applied magnetic field, whereas SC order is suppressed. Most importantly, the field dependence of the SDW Bragg peak intensity has a cusp at zero field, as predicted by a recent theory of competing SDW and SC order. This leads us to conclude that there is a repulsive coupling between the two order parameters.…
Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) is used to study the mass renormalization of the charge carriers in the high-T_c superconductor (Pb,Bi)_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_8 in the vicinity of the (pi,0) point in the superconducting and the normal state. Using matrix element effects at different photon energies and due to a high momentum and energy resolution the bonding and the antibonding bands could be separated in the whole dopant range. A huge anisotropic coupling to a bosonic collective mode is observed below T_c for both bands in particular for the underdoped case. Above T_c, the more isotro…
Enhancements of superconducting properties were observed in FeSe wires using a quenching technique. Zero resistivity was achieved at about 10 K in quenched wires, which is about 2 K higher than that of polycrystalline FeSe bulk. Furthermore, transport Jc of quenched wires showed three times higher than that of furnace-cooled wires. In contrast, the quenched polycrystalline FeSe bulks did not show the enhancement of Tc. The quenching technique is a greatly promising for fabricating FeSe wires with high Tc and high Jc, and quenched FeSe wires have high potential for superconducting wire applicat…
A controlled local enhancement of superconductivity yields unexpected modifications in the vortex dynamics. This local enhancement has been achieved by designing an array of superconducting Nb nanostructures embedded in a V superconducting film. The most remarkable findings are: i) vanishing of the main commensurability effect between the vortex lattice and the array unit cell, ii) hysteretic behavior in the vortex dynamics, iii) broadening of the vortex liquid phase and iv) strong softening of the vortex lattice. These effects can be controlled and they can be quenched by reducing the Nb arra…
Charge density wave (CDW) instability is often found in phase diagrams of superconductors such as cuprates and certain transition-metal dichalcogenides. This proximity to superconductivity triggers the question on whether CDW instability is responsible for the pairing of electrons in these superconductors. However, this issue remains unclear and new systems are desired to provide a better picture. Here, we report the temperature-pressure phase diagram of a recently discovered BiS$_2$ superconductor La$_2$O$_2$Bi$_3$AgS$_6$, which shows a possible CDW transition at $T^*\sim$155 K and a supercon…
We address the question of whether the superconducting transition temperature (Tc) of high-Tc cuprates is enhanced when randomly distributed dopant atoms form an ordered array in the charge reservoir layers. This study is possible for the Sr2CuO3+d superconductor with K2NiF4-type structure in which oxygen atoms only partially occupy the apical sites next to the CuO2 planes and act as hole-dopants. We show that remarkable Tc enhancement up to 95K in this mono CuO2 layered HTS is associated with the apical oxygen ordering, not to the hole concentration change. The result points a route toward fu…
We present the results of precise correlated-electron calculations on the monomer lattices of the organic charge-transfer solids $κ$-(BEDT-TTF)$_2$X for 32 and 64 molecular sites. Our calculations are for band parameters corresponding to X = Cu[N(CN)$_2$]Cl and Cu$_2$(CN)$_3$, which are semiconducting antiferromagnetic and quantum spin liquid, respectively, at ambient pressure. We have performed our calculations for variable electron densities $ρ$ per BEDT-TTF molecule, with $ρ$ ranging from 1 to 2. We find that $d$-wave superconducting pair-pair correlations are enhanced by electron-electron …
We measured the electrical resistivity, $\varrho(T)$, of superconducting CaC$\_6$ at ambient and high pressure up to 16 GPa. For $P \leq$8 GPa, we found a large increase of $T\_c$ with pressure from 11.5 up to 15.1 K. At 8 GPa, $T\_c$ drops and levels off at 5 K above 10 GPa. Correspondingly, the residual $\varrho$ increases by $\approx$ 200 times and the $\varrho(T)$ behavior becomes flat. The recovery of the pristine behavior after depressurization is suggestive of a phase transition at 8 GPa between two superconducting phases with good and bad metallic properties, the latter with a lower $T…
We study a model of a two-dimensional repulsive Fermi gas with Rashba spin-orbit coupling $α_R$, and investigate the superconducting instability using renormalization group approach. We find that in general superconductivity is enhanced as the dimensionless ratio 1/2mα_R^2/E_F$ increases, resulting in unconventional superconducting states which break time reversal symmetry.
We report $^{115}$In nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements of the heavy-fermion superconductor CeCoIn$_5$ in the vicinity of the superconducting critical field $H_{c2}$ for a magnetic field applied perpendicular to the $\hat c$-axis. A possible inhomogeneous superconducting state, Fulde-Ferrel-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO), is stabilized in this part of the phase diagram. In 11 T applied magnetic field, we observe clear signatures of the two phase transitions: the higher temperature one to the homogeneous superconducting state and the lower temperature phase transition to a FFLO state. It …
The pressure dependence, up to 11.3 kbar, of basic parameters of the superconducting state, such as the critical temperature (Tc), the lower and the upper critical fields, the coherence length, the penetration depth, and their anisotropy, was determined from magnetic measurements performed for two singlecrystalline samples of FeTe0.5Se0.5. We have found pressure-induced enhancement of all of the superconducting state properties, which entails a growth of the density of superconducting carriers. However, we noticed more pronounced increase in superconducting carrier density under pressure than …
We uncover that the competition between electron-electron correlations and electron-phonon interactions gives rise to unexpectedly huge enhancement of the superconducting transition temperature, several hundreds percent larger ($\geq$ 200 K) than that of the case when only one of the two is taken into account ($\sim$ 30 K). Our renormalization group analysis claims that this mechanism for the enhancement of the critical temperature is not limited on superconductivity but applied to various Fermi surface instabilities, proposing an underlying universal structure, which turns out to be essential…
A transport current distribution over a wide superconducting sheet is shown to strongly change in a presence of bulk magnetic screens of a soft magnet with a high permeability. Depending on the geometry, the effect may drastically suppress or protect the Meissner state of the sheet through the enhancement or suppression of the edge barrier critical current. The total transport current in the magnetically screened Meissner state is expected to compete with the critical current of the flux-filled sheet only for samples whose critical current is initially essentially controlled by the edge barrie…
The superconducting properties of small metallic grains has been a topic of active research for half a century now. Early experiments demonstrated a remarkable rise in the critical temperature, $T_{c}$, with reducing grain size in a variety of materials. In two dimensional diffusive superconductors, $T_{c}$ is decreased due to enhanced Coulomb repulsion. We propose that in finite size grains, the diffusive enhancement of the Coulomb repulsion is weakened and leads ultimately to an increase in $T_{c}$ in isolated, disordered two dimensional grains. Our mechanism is superimposed on the possible …
We discovered the enhancement of superconducting transition temperature, Tc, in yttrium sesquicarbide system with the maximum Tc of Tc=18K and their superconducting properties were discussed. The crystal structure of Y2C3 is the body-centered cubic (Pu2C3-type) structure, and the lattice parameters are varied with the heat treatment conditions. The magnetization (M-H) curves of this compound showed a typical type-II superconducting behavior, and the lower critical field, Hc1(0), is 3.5mT. The Tc-value in this system was changed in the range from 15K to 18K, depending on the sintering condition…
The onset temperature of superconducting fluctuation Tonset of Bi2Sr2-xRxCuOy (R=La and Eu) was studied by measuring the Nernst effect. We found that Tonset has a x and R dependence that is quite different from both the pseudogap temperature T* and the critical temperature Tc. Our results support the picture that the incoherent superconductivity, which has been observed below Tonset, is qualitatively different from the pseudogap phenomenon that is characterized by T*. The experimentally obtained phase diagram indicates that the pseudogap state suppresses Tc and enhances superconducting fluctua…
Experiments observe an enhanced superconducting gap over impurities as compared to the clean-bulk value. In order to shed more light on this phenomenon, we perform simulations within the framework of Bogoliubov-deGennes theory applied to the attractive Hubbard model. The simulations qualitatively reproduce the experimentally observed enhancement effect; it can be traced back to an increased particle density in the metal close to the impurity site. In addition, the simulations display significant differences between a thin (2D) and a very thick (3D) film. In 2D pronounced Friedel oscillations c…
We report resistivity and calorimetric measurements on two single crystals of CePd2Si2 pressurized up to 7.4 GPa. A weak uniaxial stress induced in the pressure cell demonstrates the sensitivity of the physics to anisotropy. Stress applied along the c-axis extends the whole phase diagram to higher pressures and enhances the superconducting phase emerging around the magnetic instability, with a 40% increase of the maximum superconducting temperature, Tc, and a doubled pressure range. Calorimetric measurements demonstrate the bulk nature of the superconductivity.
Transverse-field muon-spin rotation measurements performed on two samples of LiFeAs demonstrate that the superfluid stiffness of the superconducting condensate in relation to its superconducting transition temperature is enhanced compared to other pnictide superconductors. Evidence is seen for a field-induced magnetic state in a sample with a significantly suppressed superconducting transition temperature. The results in this system highlight the role of direct Fe-Fe interactions in frustrating pairing mediated by antiferromagnetic fluctuations and suggest that, in common with other pnictide s…
A generalization of the de Gennes-Alexander micronetworks theory is presented. In this framework, the phase transition of synthetic networks of superconducting islands is described by means of a Ginzburg-Landau approach adapted to the case of granular systems. The general implications of the theory are carefully explained. As a specific example, we demonstrate that star networks support the exponential localization of the order parameter accompanied by an enhancement of the critical temperature of the system. These findings contribute to clarify the physics of the phase transitions in syntheti…
Superconducting nanowire single photon detectors are rapidly emerging as a key infrared photon-counting technology. Two front-side-coupled silver dipole nanoantennas, simulated to have resonances at 1480 nm and 1525 nm, were fabricated in a two-step process. An enhancement of 50% to 130% in the system detection efficiency was observed when illuminating the antennas. This offers a pathway to increasing absorption into superconducting nanowires, creating larger active areas, and achieving more efficient detection at longer wavelengths.
We study the effect of inhomogeneity of the paring interaction or the background potential on the superconducting transition temperature, T_c. In the weak coupling BCS regime, we find that inhomogeneity which is incommensurate with the Fermi surface nesting vectors enhances T_c relative to its value for the uniform system. For a fixed modulation strength we find that the highest T_c is reached when the characteristic modulation length scale is of the order of the superconducting coherence length.
The temperature dependences of the enhanced critical current in wide and thin Sn films exposed to the microwave field have been investigated experimentally and analyzed. It was found that the microwave field stabilizes the current state of a wide film with respect to the entry of Abrikosov vortices. The stabilizing effect of irradiation increases with frequency. Using similarity between the effects of microwave enhancement of superconductivity observed for homogeneous (narrow films) and inhomogeneous (wide films) distributions of the superconducting current over the film width, we have succeed…
We calculate the superconducting $T_c$ for a system which experiences Rashba spin-orbit interactions. Contrary to the usual case where the electron-electron interaction is assumed to be wave vector-independent, where superconductivity is suppressed by the spin-orbit interaction (except for a small region at low electron or hole densities), we find an enhancement of the superconducting transition temperature when we include a correlated hopping interaction between electrons. This interaction originates in the expansion of atomic orbitals due to electron-electron repulsion and gives rise to supe…
For certain complex superconducting systems, the superconducting properties get enhanced under mesoscopic point contacts made of elemental non-superconducting metals. However, understanding of the mechanism through which such contact induced local enhancement of superconductivity happens has been limited due to the complex nature of such compounds. In this paper we present giant enhancement of superconducting transition temperature (T$_c$) and superconducting energy gap ($Δ$) in a simple elemental superconductor Zr. While bulk Zr shows a critical temperature around 0.6\,K, superconductivity su…
In this paper, we investigate analytically the experimental observations of structural collapse and Tc enhancement in the rare earth-doped 122-type iron-based pnictide superconductors [S. R. Saha et.al. Phys. Rev. B 85, 024525 (2012), arXiv:1105.4798 (2011); B. Lv et al. PNAS 108, 15705 (2011).]. Based on the real-space effective c-axis lattice constant theory of superconductivity [X. Q. Huang, arXiv:1001.5067], it is shown that the abrupt c-axis reduction of the superconductors is due to the structural phase transition (an ultra-short-range symmetry breaking) of the charge stripe lattice. The…
Heterogeneous sonochemical method was applied for synthesis of novel superconducting nanocomposites consisting of magnetic (and/or nonmagnetic) nanoparticles embedded into the bulk of ceramic superconductors. In addition to in-situ production of the efficient pinning centers, this synthesis method considerably improves the interbrain coupling. Significant enhancement of the magnetic irreversibility is reported for Fe2O3 nanoparticles embedded into the bulk of MgB2 superconductor. Nonmagnetic Mo2O5 nanoparticles also increase pinning strength, but less than magnetic Fe2O3. Detailed magnetizatio…
The Josephson quasiparticle (JQP) cycle in a voltage-biased superconducting single-electron transistor (SSET) combines coherent Cooper pair tunneling with incoherent quasiparticle decay. We have measured the influence of current flow through an independently-biased SSET on the JQP cycle when the two SSET's have a strong mutual capacitive coupling. We find, among other effects, that the JQP current in one SSET is enhanced by the presence of a quasiparticle current in the other SSET. A simplified model of the coupled-SSET system is presented which reproduces the enhancement effect.
We show that a magnetic strip on top of a superconducting strip magnetized in a specified direction may considerably enhance the critical current in the sample. At fixed magnetization of the magnet we observed diode effect - the value of the critical current depends on the direction of the transport current. We explain these effects by a influence of the nonuniform magnetic field induced by the magnet on the current distribution in the superconducting strip. The experiment on a hybrid Nb/Co structure confirmed the predicted variation of the critical current with a changing value of magnetizati…
We demonstrate that thermoelectric currents in superconducting bilayers with a spin-active interface are controlled by the two competing processes. On one hand, spin-sensitive quasiparticle scattering at such interface generates electron-hole imbalance and yields orders-of-magnitude enhancement of the thermoelectric effect in the system. On the other hand, this electron-hole imbalance gets suppressed in the superconductor bulk due to electron scattering on non-magnetic impurities. As a result, large thermoelectric currents can only flow in the vicinity of the spin-active interface and decay aw…
Recent experiments showed that thinning gallium, iron selenide and 2H tantalum disulfide to single/several monoatomic layer(s) enhances their superconducting critical temperatures. Here, we characterize these superconductors by extracting the absolute values of the London penetration depth, the superconducting energy gap, and the relative jump in specific heat at the transition temperature from their self-field critical currents. Our central finding is that the enhancement in transition temperature for these materials arises from the opening of an additional superconducting gap, while retainin…
We analyze the pump wavelength dependence for the photo-induced enhancement of interlayer coupling in La1.885Ba0.115CuO4, which is promoted by optical melting of the stripe order. In the equilibrium superconducting state (T < Tc = 13 K), in which stripes and superconductivity coexist, time-domain THz spectroscopy reveals a photo-induced blue-shift of the Josephson Plasma Resonance after excitation with optical pulses polarized perpendicular to the CuO2 planes. In the striped, non-superconducting state (Tc < T < T_SO = 40 K) a transient plasma resonance similar to that seen below Tc appears fro…
We report on a study of thermal Hall conductivity k_xy in the superconducting state of CeCoIn_5. The scaling relation and the density of states of the delocalized quasiparticles, both obtained from k_xy, are consistent with d-wave superconducting symmetry. The onset of superconductivity is accompanied by a steep increase in the thermal Hall angle, pointing to a striking enhancement in the quasiparticle mean free path. This enhancement is drastically suppressed in a very weak magnetic field. These results highlight that CeCoIn_5 is unique among superconductors. A small Fermi energy, a large sup…
Application of high pressure (HP) induces evolution from metallic to semi-metallic state in the layered superconducting LaO1-xFxBiSe2 phase, as concluded from ab initio calculations based on experimental P-dependent structural data. These changes in conduction properties are associated with a reported decrease in the superconducting transition temperature, Tc. However, further increase in pressure induces structural transformation in LaO1-xFxBiSe2 which results in a strong enhancement of its two-dimensionality with a related improvement in superconducting performance. In addition, the HP struc…
This work presents the emergence of superconductivity in Re substituted topological Weyl semimetal MoTe$_{2}$. Re substitution for Mo sites lead to a sizable enhancement in the superconducting transition temperature (T$_{c}$). A record high T$_{c}$ at ambient pressure in a 1T$'$-MoTe$_{2}$ (room temperature structure) related sample is observed for the Mo$_{0.7}$Re$_{0.3}$Te$_{2}$ composition (T$_{c}$ = 4.1 K, in comparison MoTe$_{2}$, shows a T$_{c}$ of 0.1 K). The experimental and theoretical studies indicate that Re substitution is doping electrons and facilitates the emergence of supercond…
The energy spectrum of incommensurate spin fluctuations in superconducting Sr-doped La2CuO4 has been studied by inelastic neutron scattering experiments. An energy gap in the spin excitation spectrum is observed in the superconducting state of optimally doped (x=0.15) and slightly overdoped (x=0.18) samples. At temperatures well below Tc, the incommensurate peaks diminish rapidly in intensity with decreasing energy below ~8meV and merge into the background below ~3.5meV for x=0.15 and ~4.5meV for x=0.18. For both samples, the energy spectrum of the q-integrated spin susceptibility, x"(w), exhi…
We theoretically find that the resistance of a superconducting microbridge/nanowire {\it decreases} while the retrapping current $I_r$ for the transition to the superconducting state {\it increases} when one suppresses the magnitude of the order parameter $|Δ|$ in the attached superconducting leads. This effect is a consequence of the increased energy interval for diffusion of the 'hot' nonequilibrium quasiparticles (induced by the oscillations of $|Δ|$ in the center of the microbridge) to the leads. The effect is absent in short microbridges (with length less than the coherence length) and it…
In this letter we present the effect of neutron irradiation up to fluences of 3.9 1019 n/cm2 on the superconducting properties of MgB2. In order to obtain a disorder structure homogeneously distributed, the experiment was carried out on bulk samples prepared with the 11B isotope. Up to fluences of 1018 n/cm2 the critical temperature is slightly diminished (36 K) and the superconducting properties are significantly improved; the upper critical field is increased from 13.5 T to 20.3 T at 12 K and the irreversibility field is doubled at 5 K. For larger neutron fluences the critical temperature is…
Strongly correlated materials often respond sensitively to the external perturbations. In the recently discovered superconducting infinite-layer nickelates, the superconducting transition temperature can be dramatically enhanced via only ~1% compressive strain-tuning enabled by substrate design. However, the root of such enhancement remains elusive. While the superconducting pairing mechanism is still not settled, magnetic Cooper pairing - similar to the cuprates has been proposed. Using resonant inelastic x-ray scattering, we investigate the magnetic excitations in infinite-layer PrNiO2 thin …
We have observed an unexpected enhancement of the lower critical field $H_{c1}(T)$ and the critical current $I_{c}(T)$ deep in the superconducting state below $T \approx 0.6$ K ($T/T_{c} \approx 0.3$) in the filled skutterudite heavy fermion superconductor PrOs$_4$Sb$_{12}$. From a comparison of the behavior of $H_{c1}(T)$ with that of the heavy fermion superconductors U$_{1-x}$Th$_x$Be$_{13}$ and UPt$_3$, we speculate that the enhancement of $H_{c1}(T)$ and $I_{c}(T)$ in PrOs$_4$Sb$_{12}$ reflects a transition into another superconducting phase that occurs below $T/T_{c} \approx 0.3$. An exam…
We study the Giant Magnetoresistance (GMR) ratio in magnetic multiayers with a single superconducting contact in the presence of spin-mixing processes. It has been recently shown that the GMR ratio of magnetic multilayers is strongly suppressed by the presence of a superconducting contact when spin-flipping is not allowed. In this Letter we demonstrate that the GMR ratio can be dramatically enhanced by spin-orbit interaction and/or non-collinear magnetic moments. The system is described using a tight-binding model with either s-p-d or s-d atomic orbitals per site.
We report a 29Si-NMR study on the pressure-induced superconductivity (SC) in an antiferromagnetic (AFM) heavy-fermion compound CeIrSi3 without inversion symmetry. In the SC state at P=2.7-2.8 GPa, the temperature dependence of the nuclear-spin lattice relaxation rate 1/T_1 below Tc exhibits a T^3 behavior without any coherence peak just below Tc, revealing the presence of line nodes in the SC gap. In the normal state, 1/T_1 follows a \sqrt{T}-like behavior, suggesting that the SC emerges under the non-Fermi liquid state dominated by AFM spin fluctuations enhanced around quantum critical point …
The thermal conductivity of electron-doped Ba(Fe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$)$_2$As$_2$ single crystals is investigated below 200K, with an emphasis on the behavior near the magnetic and superconducting (T_c) transition temperatures. An enhancement of the in-plane thermal conductivity $κ_{ab}$ is observed below T_c for all samples, with the greatest enhancement observed near optimal doping. The observed trends are consistent with the scattering of heat carriers by low-energy magnetic excitations. Upon entering the superconducting state, the formation of a spin-gap leads to reduced scattering and an enhancem…
