Degenerated Calabi-Yau varieties with infinite components, Moduli compactifications, and limit toroidal structures

For any degenerating Calabi-Yau family, we introduce new limit space which we call galaxy, whose dense subspace is the disjoint union of countably infinite open Calabi-Yau varieties, parametrized by the rational points of the Kontsevich-Soibelman's essential skeleton, while dominated by the Huber adification over the Puiseux series field. Other topics include: projective limits of toroidal compactifications, locally modelled on what we call the limit toric varieties, the way to attach tropicalized family to given Calabi-Yau family, which are weakly related to each other.

Rigidity for Families of Polarized Calabi-Yau Varieties

In this paper, we study the analogue of the Shafarevich conjecture for polarized Calabi-Yau varieties. We use variations of Hodge structures and Higgs bundles to establish a criterion for the {\it rigidity} of families. We then apply the criterion to obtain that some important and typical families of Calabi-Yau varieties are rigid, for examples., Lefschetz pencils of Calabi-Yau varieties, {\it strongly degenerated} families (not only for families of Calabi-Yau varieties), families of Calabi-Yau varieties admitting a degeneration with {\it maximal unipotent monodromy}.

Gromov-Witten theory of toroidal orbifolds and GIT wall-crossing

Toroidal 3-orbifolds $(S^1)^6/G$, for $G$ a finite group, were some of the earliest examples of Calabi-Yau 3-orbifolds to be studied in string theory. While much mathematical progress towards the predictions of string theory has been made in the meantime, most of it has dealt with hypersurfaces in toric varieties. As a result, very little is known about curve-counting theories on toroidal orbifolds. Calabi-Yau Moduli Space, Mirror Manifolds and Spacetime Topology Change in String Theory

We analyze the moduli spaces of Calabi-Yau threefolds and their associated conformally invariant nonlinear sigma-models and show that they are described by an unexpectedly rich geometrical structure. Specifically, the Kahler sector of the moduli space of such Calabi-Yau conformal theories admits a decomposition into adjacent domains some of which correspond to the (complexified) Kahler cones of topologically distinct manifolds. Smoothing pairs over degenerate Calabi-Yau varieties

We apply the techniques developed in our previous work with Leung to study smoothings of a pair $(X,\mathfrak{C}^*)$, where $\mathfrak{C}^*$ is a bounded perfect complex of locally free sheaves over a degenerate Calabi-Yau variety $X$. Non-Commutative Calabi-Yau Manifolds

We discuss aspects of the algebraic geometry of compact non-commutative Calabi-Yau manifolds. In this setting, it is appropriate to consider local holomorphic algebras which can be glued together into a compact Calabi-Yau algebra. We consider two examples: a toroidal orbifold T^6/Z_2 x Z_2, and an orbifold of the quintic in CP_4, each with discrete torsion. On the symplectic cohomology of log Calabi-Yau surfaces

This article studies the symplectic cohomology of affine algebraic surfaces that admit a compactification by a normal crossings anticanonical divisor. Using a toroidal structure near the compactification divisor, we describe the complex computing symplectic cohomology, and compute enough differentials to identify a basis for the degree-zero part of the symplectic cohomology. Abelian Fibrations, String Junctions, and Flux/Geometry Duality

In previous work, it was argued that the type IIB T^6/Z_2 orientifold with a choice of flux preserving N=2 supersymmetry is dual to a class of purely geometric type IIA compactifications on abelian surface (T^4) fibered Calabi-Yau threefolds. We provide two explicit constructions of the resulting Calabi-Yau duals. Boundaries of cycle spaces and degenerating Hodge structures

We study a property of cycle spaces in connection with degenerating Hodge structures of odd-weight, and construct maps from some partial compactifications of period domains to the Satake compatifications of Siegel spaces. These maps are a generalization of the maps from the toroidal compactifications of Siegel spaces to the Satake compactifications. We also show the continuity of these maps for the case of Calabi-Yau threefolds with h^{2,1}=1.

Mirror Symmetry is T-Duality

It is argued that every Calabi-Yau manifold $X$ with a mirror $Y$ admits a family of supersymmetric toroidal 3-cycles. Moreover the moduli space of such cycles together with their flat connections is precisely the space $Y$. The mirror transformation is equivalent to T-duality on the 3-cycles. The geometry of moduli space is addressed in a general framework. Several examples are discussed.
