We numerically examine the depinning and sliding dynamics of a Wigner crystal in the presence of quenched disorder and a magnetic field. In the disorder-free limit, the Wigner crystal Hall angle is independent of crystal velocity, but when disorder is present, we find that Hall angle starts near zero at the depinning threshold and increases linearly with increasing drive before reaching a saturation close to the disorder free value at the highest drives. The drive dependence is the result of a side jump effect produced when the charges move over pinning sites. The magnitude of the side jump is reduced at the higher velocities. The drive dependent Hall angle is robust for a wide range of disorder parameters and should be a generic feature of classical charges driven in the presence of quenched disorder and a magnetic field.
The Wigner crystal on liquid He accompanies with periodic corrugation of the He surface; dimples. The dynamics of the crystal is coupled with the motion and the deformation of the dimples. Nonlinear phenomena found in AC Corbino conductivity are attributed to the collective sliding of the electrons out of the dimples. In order to inspect the dynamical transition to the sliding state, we have developed a novel experimental method using a so-called "t^2 pulse", whose leading and trailing edges change in proportion to the square of time; V = at^2. Since the force exerting upon the crystal is prop…
We study the transport properties of a Wigner crystal in one- and two-dimensional asymmetric periodic potential. We show that the Aubry transition takes place above a certain critical amplitude of potential with the sliding and pinned phase below and above the transition. Due to the asymmetry the Aubry pinned phase is characterized by the diode charge transport of the Wigner crystal. We argue that the recent experimental observations of Aubry transition with cold ions and colloidal monolayers can be extended to asymmetric potentials making possible to observe Wigner crystal diode with these ph…
We study properties of Wigner crystal in snaked nanochannels and show that they are characterized by conducting sliding phase at low charge densities and insulating pinned phase emerging above a certain critical charge density. The transition between these phases has a devil's staircase structure typical for the Aubry transition in dynamical maps and the Frenkel-Kontorova model. We discuss implications of this phenomenon for charge density waves in quasi-one-dimensional organic conductors and for supercapacitors in nanopore materials.
We examine the dynamics of driven classical Wigner solids interacting with quenched disorder from charged impurities. For strong disorder, the initial motion is plastic -- in the form of crossing winding channels. For increasing drive, the disordered Wigner glass can reorder to a moving Wigner smectic -- with the electrons moving in non-crossing 1D channels. These different dynamic phases can be related to the conduction noise and I(V) curves. For strong disorder, we show criticality in the voltage onset just above depinning. We also obtain the dynamic phase diagram for driven Wigner solids an…
We demonstrated that the chiral soliton lattice formed out of a chiral helimagnet exhibits coherent sliding motion by applying a time-dependent magnetic field parallel to the helical axis, in addition to a static field perpendicular to the helical axis. To describe the coherent sliding, we use the collective coordinate method and numerical analysis. We also show that the time-dependent sliding velocity causes a time-varying Berry cap which causes the spin-motive-force. A salient feature of the chiral soliton lattice is appearance of the strongly amplified spin motive force which is directly pr…
We study numerically transport and thermoelectric properties of electrons placed in a two-dimensional (2D) periodic potential. Our results show that the transition from sliding to pinned phase takes place at a certain critical amplitude of lattice potential being similar to the Aubry transition for the one-dimensional Frenkel-Kontorova model. We show that the 2D Aubry pinned phase is characterized by high values of Seebeck coefficient S = 12. At the same time we find that the value of Seebeck coefficient is significantly influenced by the geometry of periodic potential. We discuss possibilitie…
We consider the Coulomb drag between two metal rings in which the long range Coulomb interaction leads to the formation of a Wigner crystal. The first ring is threaded by an Ahranov Bohm flux creating a persistent current J_0. The second ring is brought in close proximity to the second and due to the Coulomb interaction between the two rings a drag current J_D is produced in the second. We investigate this system at zero temperature for perfect rings as well as the effects of impurities. We show that the Wigner crystal state can in principle lead to a higher ratio of drag current to drive curr…

We report the first experimental observation of a characteristic nonlinear threshold behavior from dc dynamical response as an evidence for a Wigner crystallization in high-purity GaAs 2D hole systems in zero magnetic field. The system under increasing current drive exhibits voltage oscillations with negative differential resistance. They confirm the coexistence of a moving crystal along with striped edge states as observed for electrons on helium surfaces. However, the threshold is well below the typical classical levels due to a different pinning and depinning mechanism that is possibly rela…
We extend the Wigner current vector field (Wigner current) construct to single bosonic mode quantum systems interacting with an environment. In terms of the Wigner function quasiprobability density and associated Wigner current, the open system quantum dynamics can be concisely expressed as a continuity equation. Through the consideration of the harmonic oscillator and additively driven Duffing oscillator in the bistable regime as illustrative system examples, we show how the evolving Wigner current vector field on the system phase space yields useful geometric insights concerning how quantum …

The Wigner-Liouville equation is reformulated using a spectral decomposition of the classical force field instead of the potential energy. The latter is shown to simplify the Wigner-Liouville kernel both conceptually and numerically as the spectral force Wigner-Liouville equation avoids the numerical evaluation of the highly oscillatory Wigner kernel which is nonlocal in both position and momentum. The quantum mechanical evolution is instead governed by a term local in space and non-local in momentum, where the non-locality in momentum has only a limited range. An interpretation of the time ev…
Magnetotransport measurements were performed in a ultra-high mobility GaAs/AlGaAs quantum well of density $\sim 3.0 \times 10^{11}$ $cm^{-2}$. The temperature dependence of the magnetoresistance $R_{xx}$ was studied in detail in the vicinity of $ν={9/2}$. In particular, we discovered new minima in $R_{xx}$ at filling factor $ν\simeq 4{1/5}$ and $4{4/5}$, but only at intermediate temperatures $80\lesssim T\lesssim 120$ mK. We interpret these as evidence for a fractional quantum Hall liquid forming in the N=2 Landau level and competing with bubble and Wigner crystal phases favored at lower tempe…
