The effects of cluster correlations have been studied in the $^{12}$C + $^{12}$C reaction at 50 MeV/nucleon, using three AMD models, the AMD (AMD/D) without any additional cluster correlations, AMD/D-COALS with nucleon correlations based on a coalescence prescription for light cluster formations with $A\leq4$ and AMD-Cluster with an extended cluster correlation in two-nucleon collision processes and a special treatment for intermediate fragment formation with A $\le 9$. The angular distributions and energy spectra of fragments have been simulated and compared with the available experimental data. It is found that the cluster correlations take a crucial role to describe the productions of light charged particles (LCPs) and intermediate mass fragments (IMFs), and the AMD-cluster studied here provides a consistent overall reproduction of the experimental data. It is also shown that the significant effects of the secondary decay processes are involved for the fragment production besides the dynamical productions in the AMD stage. Detailed LCP and IMF production mechanisms involved in the intermediate energy heavy ion collisions are discussed.
Based on the Isospin-dependent Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (IBUU) transport model, the isotope Sn+Sn reactions at 270 MeV/nucleon are investigated. It is shown that nucleon and meson observables in the Sn+Sn reactions at 270 MeV/nucleon cannot effectively probe the high-density symmetry energy. These observables, however, are sensitive to the curvature of the symmetry energy. It thus sheds light on the study of the high-density behavior of the nuclear symmetry energy by extracting the curvature of the symmetry energy through the interpretation of forthcoming RIBF/RIKEN related data.
Intermediate mass fragment emission for reactions of $^{32}\text{S} +\,^{51}\text{V},\,^{109}$Ag, and $^{238}\text{U}$ has been studied. Double differential cross sections were analysed in terms of the generalised moving source model yielding charge distributions. Isotope ratios show strong fragment mass dependencies. The data were successfully reproduced by the coalescence model as well as by statistical multifragmentation model calculations. Quantum molecular dynamics model calculations were not so successful.
The influence of medium correction from an isospin dependent nucleon nucleon cross section on the fragmentation and nucleon emission in the intermediate energy heavy ion collisions was studied by using an isospin dependent quantum molecular dynamical model (IQMD). We found that the medium correction enhances the dependence of multiplicity of intermediate mass fragment $N_{imf}$ and the number of nucleon emission $N_{n}$ on the isospin effect of the nucleon nucleon cross section, while the momentum dependent interaction (MDI) produces also an important role for enhancing the influence of the med…
An extended version of the Cascade-Exciton Model (CEM) of nuclear reactions is applied to analyze nucleon-induced fission cross sections for Bi-209 and Pb-208 nuclei in the 45-500 MeV energy range. The available data on linear momentum transfer are analyzed as well. The results are compared with analytical approximations resulting from a comparative critical analysis of all available experimental data. Systematic discrepancies between calculations and experimental data are revealed. A modification of the CEM is proposed, which significantly improves the model predictions for projectile energie…
A review is given on the studies of formation of light clusters and heavier fragments in heavy-ion collisions at incident energies from several tens of MeV/nucleon to several hundred MeV/nucleon, focusing on dynamical aspects and on microscopic theoretical descriptions. Existing experimental data already clarify basic characteristics of expanding and fragmenting systems typically in central collisions, where cluster correlations cannot be ignored. Cluster correlations appear almost everywhere in excited low-density nuclear many-body systems and nuclear matter in statistical equilibrium where t…
Based on the recently updated Isospin-dependent Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (IBUU) transport model, we studied the effects of symmetry energy on the neutron to proton n/p ratio and the $π^{-}/π^{+}$ ratio in central $^{132}\rm {Sn}+^{124}\rm {Sn}$ reaction at 300 MeV/nucleon. It is found that the n/p ratio and the $π^{-}/π^{+}$ ratio in central $^{132}\rm {Sn}+^{124}\rm {Sn}$ reaction at 300 MeV/nucleon mainly probe the symmetry energy in the density region 1-1.5 times saturation density. However, the $π^{-}/π^{+}$ ratio may be able to probe the density-dependent symmetry energy above 1.5 time…
The collisions in four different reaction systems using $^{40,48}$Ca and $^{58,64}$Ni isotope beams and a Be target have been simulated using the Heavy Ion Phase Space Exploration and the Antisymmetrized Molecular Dynamics models. The present study mainly focuses on the model predictions for the excitation energies of the hot fragments and the cross sections of the final fragments produced in these reactions. The effects of various factors influencing the final fragment cross sections, such as the choice of the statistical decay code and its parameters have been explored. The predicted fragmen…
We investigate the possibilities of producing neutron-rich nuclides in projectile fission of heavy beams in the energy range of 20 MeV/nucleon expected from low-energy facilities. We report our efforts to theoretically describe the reaction mechanism of projectile fission following a multinucleon transfer collision at this energy range. Our calculations are mainly based on a two-step approach: the dynamical stage of the collision is described with either the phenomenological Deep-Inelastic Transfer model (DIT), or with the microscopic Constrained Molecular Dynamics model (CoMD). The deexcitati…
We report fragmentation cross sections measured at 0 deg for beams of 14-N, 16-O, 20-Ne, and 24-Mg ions, at energies ranging from 290 MeV/nucleon to 1000 MeV/nucleon. Beams were incident on targets of C, CH2, Al, Cu, Sn, and Pb, with the C and CH2 target data used to obtain hydrogen-target cross sections. Using methods established in earlier work, cross sections obtained with both large-acceptance and small-acceptance detectors are extracted from the data and when necessary corrected for acceptance effects. The large-acceptance data yield cross sections for fragments with charges approximately…
Symmetry energy, temperature and density at the time of the intermediate mass fragment formation are determined in a self-consistent manner, using the experimentally reconstructed primary hot isotope yields and anti-symmetrized molecular dynamics (AMD) simulations. The yields of primary hot fragments are experimentally reconstructed for multifragmentation events in the reaction system $^{64}$Zn + $^{112}$Sn at 40 MeV/nucleon. Using the reconstructed hot isotope yields and an improved method, based on the modified Fisher model, symmetry energy values relative to the apparent temperature, $a_{sy…
An electron localization measure was originally introduced to characterize chemical bond structures in molecules. Recently, a nucleon localization based on Hartree-Fock densities has been introduced to investigate $α$-cluster structures in light nuclei. Compared to the local nucleonic densities, the nucleon localization function has been shown to be an excellent indicator of shell effects and cluster correlations. Using the spatial nucleon localization measure, we investigate the emergence of fragments in fissioning heavy nuclei. To illustrate basic concepts of nucleon localization, we employ …
A study of medium-mass heavy-ion reactions leading to two fragments in the exit channel from barrier to 18A MeV is proposed. A special focus is made on fission and quasi-fission for events with two fragments ($Z\geq10$) in the exit channel selected. Reactions induced by $^{129}Xe$ projectiles on $^{nat}Sn$ and on $^{197}Au$ at energies ranging from $8A$ MeV to $18A$ MeV were analyzed. Using the fragment ($Z\geq10$) multiplicity equal to 2, fission and quasi-fission events were studied for the lowest beam energies using the fission fragment charge distributions, the total kinetic energy distrib…
In recent years, investigations of angular distributions of fragments in neutron-induced nuclear fission have been extended to intermediate energies, up to 200 MeV, as well as to a wide range of target isotopes. Using as an example the latest data obtained by our group for the reaction 237-Np(n,f), we discuss the specific features of fission fragment angular distribution and present a method for their simulation based on the code TALYS. It is shown that a simplified model reasonably describes energy dependence of the angular distribution in the whole range 1-200 MeV. The ways to improve the mo…
We present our recent study of cross sections and angular distributions of projectile fragments from heavy-ion reactions at beam energy of 15 MeV/nucleon. We studied the production cross sections and the angular distributions of neutron-rich nuclides from collisions of a 86 Kr (15 MeV/nucleon) beam with heavy targets ( 64 Ni, 124 Sn and 238 U). Experimental data from our previous work at Texas A & M were compared with model calculations. Our calculations were based on a two-step approach: the dynamical stage of the collision was described with, first, the phenomenological Deep-Inelastic Transf…
Central nucleon-nucleon potentials involving forbidden states are obtained for the Gaussian, exponential, and Yukawa type. The parameters of interaction are obtained by fitting the scattering phase shifts for energies up to 500 MeV, low-energy parameters, and some features of the deuteron. The deuteron form factor for low momentum transfers, the momentum distributions of nucleons, and the cross section for deuteron photodisintegration are calculated.
The collective flow of nucleons and that of fragments in the 12C + 12C reaction below 150 MeV/nucleon are calculated with the antisymmetrized version of molecular dynamics combined with the statistical decay calculation. Density dependent Gogny force is used as the effective interaction. The calculated balance energy is about 100 MeV/nucleon, which is close to the observed value. Below the balance energy, the absolute value of the fragment flow is larger than that of nucleon flow, which is also in accordance with data. The dependence of the flow on the stochastic collision cross section and it…
Analysis of data involving nuclei far from stability often requires optical potential (OP) for neutron scattering. Since neutron data is seldom available, while proton scattering data is more abundant, it is useful to have estimates of the difference of the neutron and proton optical potentials. This information is contained in the isospin dependence of the nucleon OP. Here we attempt to provide it for the nucleon-208Pb system. The goal of this paper is to obtain accurate n+208Pb scattering data, and use it, together with existing p+208Pb and 208Pb(p,n)208$Bi*_{IAS} data, to obtain an accurate…
We study the nonperturbative renormalization of the nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction at next-to-leading order (NLO) and next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) of chiral effective field theory. A systematic variation of the cutoff parameter is performed for values below the chiral symmetry breaking scale of about 1 GeV. The accuracy of the predictions is determined by calculating the $χ^2$ for the reproduction of the NN data for energy intervals below pion-production threshold. At NLO, the NN data are described well up to about 100 MeV laboratory energy and, at NNLO, up to about 200 MeV---with, e…
Anisotropic flows ($v_1$, $v_2$, $v_3$ and $v_4$) of light fragments up till the mass number 4 as a function of rapidity have been studied for 25 MeV/nucleon $^{40}$Ca + $^{40}$Ca at large impact parameters by Quantum Molecular Dynamics model. A phenomenological scaling behavior of rapidity dependent flow parameters $v_n$ (n = 1, 2, 3 and 4) has been found as a function of mass number plus a constant term, which may arise from the interplay of collective and random motions. In addition, $v_4/{v_2}^2$ keeps almost independent of rapidity and remains a rough constant of 1/2 for all light fragmen…
Measurement of the $^{236}$U fission cross section and angular distributions of fragments from fission of $^{235}$U and $^{236}$U in the neutron energy range of 0.3-500 MeV
Vector analyzing powers for proton elastic scattering from 8He at 71 MeV/nucleon have been measured using a solid polarized proton target operated in a low magnetic field of 0.1 T. The spin-orbit potential obtained from a phenomenological optical model analysis is found to be significantly shallower and more diffuse than the global systematics of stable nuclei, which is an indication that the spin-orbit potential is modified for scattering involving neutron-rich nuclei. A close similarity between the matter radius and the root-mean-square radius of the spin-orbit potential is also identified.
A recent analysis of experimental ternary fission fragment yields using a nucleation moderated statistical equilibrium model reproduced observed yields with fairly good accuracy. In the present work, the same approach is applied to neck emission in peripheral and mid-peripheral 124Sn+112,124Sn collisions at 26A MeV. The model can reasonably reproduce the yields of lithium to silicon isotopes with realistic time and temperature values. A comparison is made between equilibrium constants derived from the present data and those previously obtained for ternary fission of 242Pu.
Experimental data for central collisions of $^{129}$Xe on $^{119}$Sn at beam energies of (a) 32 MeV/nucleon, (b) 39 MeV/nucleon, (c) 45 MeV/nucleon and (d) 50 MeV/nucleon are compared with results calculated using a hybrid model. We use a transport model (BUU) to obtain the excitation energy per nucleon in the center of mass of the multifragmenting system. The canonical thermodynamic model is then used to determine the temperature which would lead to this excitation energy. With this temperature we use the canonical thermodynamic model to calculate various experimental data such as multiplicit…
Neutron- and proton-induced fission cross-sections of separated isotopes of tungsten (182W, 183W, 184W, and 186W) and natural tungsten relative to 209Bi have been measured in the incident nucleon energy region 50-200 MeV using fission chambers based on thin-film breakdown counters (TFBC) at quasi-monoenergetic neutrons from the 7Li(p,n) reaction and at the proton beams of The Svedberg Laboratory (TSL), Uppsala University (Uppsala, Sweden). The preliminary experimental data are presented in comparison with the recent data for nuclei in the lead-bismuth region, as well as with predictions by the…
The directed and elliptic flow in collisions of $^{112}Sn$ + $^{112}Sn$ at energies from 35 to 90 MeV/nucleon were studied in an isospin-dependent quantum molecule dynamics model (IQMD). With increasing incident energy, the directed flow rises from the negative flow to the positive flow. Its magnitude depends on the nuclear equation of state (EOS). However, the elliptic flow shows decrease with increasing incident energy and its magnitude is not very sensible to EOS. Systematic studies of the impact parameter dependence and cluster mass dependence were also performed. The study of directed flo…
We have studied the fragment yields emitted from the fragmentation of excited projectile nuclei in peripheral collisions of 136Xe+Pb at 1 GeV/nucleon, and measured with the high-resolution magnetic spectrometer, the Fragment Separator (FRS) of GSI. The mass, charge and isotope distributions of nuclear fragments formed in the reactions were calculated within a statistical ensemble approach and compared to the experimental data. The ensemble of excited projectilelike source nuclei were created in the framework of a previous analysis of similar reactions performed at 600 MeV/nucleon (ALADIN-exper…
Thermal and transport properties of hot nuclear matter formed in central $^{129}$Xe + $^{119}$Sn collisions at the Fermi energy are investigated using the isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamical (IQMD) model. Temperature ($T$), average density ($ρ$), chemical potential ($μ$), mean momentum ($P$), shear viscosity ($η$) and entropy density ($s$) are obtained from the phase-space information. The mean free path ($λ_{nn}$) and the in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross section ($σ_{nn}$) in the highest compressible stage at different incident energies are deduced and compared with the experimental …
Within a transport model, we study effects of the momentum dependence of nuclear symmetry potential on pion observables in central Sn + Sn collisions at 270 MeV/nucleon. To this end, a quantity $U_{sym}^{\infty}(ρ_{0})$, i.e., the value of nuclear symmetry potential at the saturation density $ρ_{0}$ and infinitely large nucleon momentum, is used to characterise the momentum dependence of nuclear symmetry potential. It is shown that with a certain $L$ (i.e., slope of nuclear symmetry energy at $ρ_{0}$) the characteristic parameter $U_{sym}^{\infty}(ρ_{0})$ of symmetry potential affects signific…
\item[Background] Temperature is an important parameter in studying many important questions in heavy-ion collisions. A thermometer based on the isobaric yield ratio (IYR) has been proposed [Ma \textit{et al.}, Phys. Rev. C \textbf{86}, 054611 (2012) and Ma \textit{et al.}, \textit{ibid.}, Phys. Rev. C \textbf{88}, 014609 (2013)]. \item[Purpose] An improved thermometer ($T_{IB}$) is proposed based on the difference between IYRs. $T_{IB}$ obtained from isobars in different reactions will be compared. \item[Methods] The yields of three isobars are employed in $T_{IB}$. The residual free energy o…
The sensitivities of isospin asymmetry and collision geometry dependencies of participant (overlapping region)- spectator (quasiprojectile and quasitarget region) matter towards the symmetry energy using the isospin quantum molecular dynamical model are explored. Particularly, the difference of the number of nucleons in the overlapping zone to the quasi-projectile-target matter is found to be quite sensitive to the symmetry energy at semiperipheral geometries compared to the individual yield. It gives us a clue that this quantity can be used as a measure of isospin migration. Further, the yiel…
The neutron-proton effective $k$-mass splitting in asymmetric nucleonic matter of isospin asymmetry $δ$ and normal density is found to be $m^{*}_{n-p}\equiv(m^{*}_{n}-m^{*}_{p})/m=(0.41 \pm0.15)δ$ from analyzing globally 1088 sets of reaction and angular differential cross sections of proton elastic scattering on 130 targets with beam energies from 0.783 MeV to 200 MeV, and 1161 sets of data of neutron elastic scattering on 104 targets with beam energies from 0.05 MeV to 200 MeV within an isospin dependent non-relativistic optical potential model. It sets a useful reference for testing model p…
Thermalization process of nuclear matter in central fireball region of heavy-ion collisions is investigated by employing an extension model of Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck, namely the Van der Waals Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (VdWBUU) model. Temperature ($T$) is extracted by the quantum Fermion fluctuation approach and other thermodynamic quantities, such as density ($ρ$), entropy density ($s$), shear viscosity ($η$), isospin diffusivity ($D_{I}$) and heat conductivity ($κ$), are also deduced. The liquid-like and gas-like phase signs are discussed through the behavior of shear viscosity during …
Within a transport model, we study the neutron-proton differential transverse flow and its excitation function in central $^{132}$Sn + $^{124}$Sn collisions at 270 MeV/nucleon. To more accurately evaluate effects of the high-density behavior of symmetry energy \esym on this observable, we also consider the uncertainties of \esym around the saturation density $ρ_{0}$. It is shown that the neutron-proton differential transverse flow and its excitation function are mainly sensitive to the slope $L$ of \esym at $ρ_{0}$. However, the effects of low-density behavior of \esym on this observable shoul…
Collective transverse momentum flow of nucleons and fragments in intermediate energy 40Ar + 27Al collisions is calculated with the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics (AMD). The observed flow and its balance energy are reproduced very well by the calculation with the Gogny force which corresponds to the soft EOS of the nuclear matter. Especially the calculated absolute value of the fragment flow is larger than that of the nucleon flow in the negative flow region, which can be explained by the existence of two components of flow. In addition to many similarities, difference in the deuteron flow …

Experimental cross sections of neutron-rich nuclides from collisions of a 86 Kr (15 MeV/nucleon) beam with 64 Ni and 58 Ni targets are presented. Experimental data were obtained from the previous work of our group with the MARS mass spectrometer at the Cyclotron Institute of Texas A&M University. On that note, detailed calculations of yields and momentum distributions of neutron-rich projectile-like fragm…

Experimental data concerning binary events in peripheral collisions for the systems 93Nb+93Nb and 93Nb+116Sn at 38 MeV/nucleon, collected with the Fiasco setup, are compared with calculations performed with the dynamic code AMD, coupled with the statistical code Gemini used as an afterburner. The comparison focuses on the properties of the quasiprojectile (QP) and on the total multiplicities of the emitted light charged particles. A good reproduction of the average mass ratio, charge Z and c.m. angle of the QP is obtained in the examined impact parameter range (b~7-12 fm). Concerning the light…
The characteristics of fragment emission in peripheral $^{197}$Au+$^{197}$Au collisions 35 MeV/A are studied using the two clusterization approaches within framework of \emph{quantum molecular dynamics} model. Our model calculations using \emph{minimum spanning tree} (MST) algorithm and advanced clusterization method namely \emph{simulated annealing clusterization algorithm} (SACA) showed that fragment structure can be realized at an earlier time when spectators contribute significantly toward the fragment production even at such a low incident energy. Comparison of model predictions with expe…
The de-excitation of alpha-conjugate nuclei produced in reactions of 35 MeV/nucleon 40Ca with 40Ca has been investigated. Particular emphasis is placed on examining the dynamics of collisions leading to projectile-like fragment exit channels. A general exploration of the reaction systematics reveals the binary dissipative character of the collisions and a hierarchy effect similar to that seen for heavier systems. Investigation of the subset of events characterized by a total alpha-conjugate mass (alpha particles plus alpha-conjugate fragments) equal to 40 and atomic number equal to 20 reveals …
The vector analyzing power has been measured for the elastic scattering of neutron-rich 6He from polarized protons at 71 MeV/nucleon making use of a newly constructed solid polarized proton target operated in a low magnetic field and at high temperature. Two approaches based on local one-body potentials were applied to investigate the spin-orbit interaction between a proton and a 6He nucleus. An optical model analysis revealed that the spin-orbit potential for 6He is characterized by a shallow and long-ranged shape compared with the global systematics of stable nuclei. A semimicroscopic analys…
We present a hypothesis that the anomaly in the folding angle distribution of electron-positron pairs, emitted in the decay of the excited levels of nucleus $^{8}$Be and $^{4}$He can be related to the cluster structure of the decaying state. Furthermore, we present a hypothesis that the potentially observed boson with re st mass $m_{X}$=17 MeV can mediate the nucleon-nucleon interaction at the low-energy regime of QCD, in particular in the weakly bound cluster state p+$^{7}$Li,$^{3}$H. We present a possible equations of state of symmetric nuclear matter corresponding to the vector meson mass $…
The formation of the projectile spectator and the fragmentation processes in 107,124Sn + 120Sn collisions at 600 MeV/nucleon are studied with the isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics (IQMD) model. The minimum spanning tree algorithm and the ratio of parallel to transverse kinetic quantities are applied to identify the equilibrated projectile spectator during the dynamical evolution. The influence of secondary decay on fragmentation observables is investigated by performing calculations with and without the statistical code GEMINI. The validity of the theoretical approach is examined by…
We have measured the Coulomb dissociation of 8B into 7Be and proton at 254 MeV/nucleon using a large-acceptance focusing spectrometer. The astrophysical S17 factor for the 7Be(p,gamma)8B reaction at E{c.m.} = 0.25-2.78 MeV is deduced yielding S17(0)=20.6 \pm 1.2 (exp.) \pm 1.0 (theo.) eV-b. This result agrees with the presently adopted zero-energy S17 factor obtained in direct-reaction measurements and with the results of other Coulomb-dissociation studies performed at 46.5 and 51.2 MeV/nucleon.
Elastic nucleon scattering from the 3He and 3H mirror nuclei is examined as a test of charge symmetry violation. The differential cross-sections are calculated at 500 MeV using a microsopic, momentum-space optical potential including the full coupling of two spin 1/2 particles and an exact treatment of the Coulomb force. The charge-symmetry-breaking effects investigated arise from a violation within the nuclear structure, from the p-nucleus Coulomb force, and from the mass-differences of the charge symmetric states. Measurements likely to reveal reliable information are noted.
The degree of isospin fractionation is measured by $(N/Z)_{n}$ / $(N/Z)_{N_{imf}}$, where $(N/Z)_{n}$ and $(N/Z)_{N_{imf}}$ are the saturated neutron-proton ratio of nucleon emissions (gas phase) and that of fragment emissions (liquid phase) in heavy ion collision at intermediate energy . The calculated results by using the isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics model show that the degree of isospin fractionation is sensitive to the neutron-proton ratio of colliding system but insensitive to the difference between the neutron-proton ratio of target and that of projectile. In particular, …
Multi-nucleon transfer in $^{86}$Kr+$^{64}$Ni at an incident energy of 25 MeV/nucleon is for the first time investigated with a microscopic dynamics model: improved quantum molecular dynamics (ImQMD) model. The measured isotope distributions are reasonably well reproduced by using the ImQMD model together with a statistical code (GEMINI) for describing the secondary decay of fragments. The reaction mechanism is explored with the microscopic dynamics simulations from central to peripheral collisions. In central collisions there exists a strong competition among fusion, deep-inelastic scattering…
We studied the influence of a momentum dependent interaction in the context of isopspin effects on fragmentation and dissipation in intermediate energy heavy ion collisions by using an isospin dependent quantum molecular dynamics model. It is shown that the nuclear stopping, the number of nucleons emitted ,and the multiplicity of intermediate mass fragments are larger with a momentum dependent interaction than without. In particular, the differences for these observables, when using an isospin dependent in-medium nucleon nucleon cross section versus an isospin independent one, are also larger …
The nucleon-nucleon interaction is investigated by using the ImQMD model with the three sets of parameters IQ1, IQ2 and IQ3 in which the corresponding incompressibility coefficients of nuclear matter are different. The charge distribution of fragments for various reaction systems are calculated at different incident energies. The parameters strongly affect the charge distribution below the threshold energy of nuclear multifragmentation. The fragment multiplicity spectrum for $^{238}$U+$^{197}$Au at 15 AMeV and the charge distribution for $^{129}$Xe+$^{120}$Sn at 32 and 45 AMeV, and $^{197}$Au+…
A kinematically complete measurement was made of the Coulomb dissociation of 8B nuclei on a Pb target at 83 MeV/nucleon. The cross section was measured at low relative energies in order to infer the astrophysical S factor for the 7Be(p,gamma)8B reaction. A first-order perturbation theory analysis of the reaction dynamics including E1, E2, and M1 transitions was employed to extract the E1 strength relevant to neutrino-producing reactions in the solar interior. By fitting the measured cross section from Erel = 130 keV to 400 keV, we find S17(0) = 17.8 (+1.4, -1.2) eV b.
We analyze the production cross sections and isotopic distributions of projectile-like residues in the reactions $^{112}$Sn + $^{112}$Sn and $^{124}$Sn + $^{124}$Sn at an incident beam energy of 1 GeV/nucleon measured with the FRS fragment separator at the GSI laboratory. Calculations within the statistical multifragmentation model (SMM) for an ensemble of excited sources were performed with ensemble parameters determined previously for similar reactions at 600 MeV/nucleon. The obtained good agreement with the experiment establishes the universal properties of the excited spectator systems pro…
Total reaction cross sections are predicted for nucleons scattering from various nuclei. Projectile energies to 300 MeV are considered. So also are mass variations of those cross sections at selected energies. All predictions have been obtained from coordinate space optical potentials formed by full folding effective two-nucleon (NN) interactions with one body density matrix elements (OBDME) of the nuclear ground states. Good comparisons with data result when effective NN interactions defined by medium modification of free NN t matrices are used. Coupled with analyses of differential cross sec…
A new computational method for solving the nucleon-deuteron breakup scattering problem has been applied to study the inelastic neutron-deuteron scattering on the basis of the configuration-space Faddeev equations. This method is based on the spline-decomposition in the angular variable and on a generalization of the Numerov method for the hyperradius. The Merkuriev-Gignoux-Laverne approach has been generalized for arbitrary nucleon-nucleon potentials and with an arbitrary number of partial waves. Neutron-deuteron observables at the incident nucleon energy 14.1 MeV have been calculated using th…
A model describing nuclear collisions at intermediate energies is presented and the results are compared with recently measured double differential cross sections in C-C reactions at 95 MeV/nucleon. Results show the key role played by geometrical effects and the memory of the entrance channel, in particular the momentum distributions of the two incoming nuclei. Special attention is paid to the description of processes occurring at mid-rapidity. To this end, a random particle production mechanism by means of a coalescence process in velocity space is considered in the overlap region of the two …
We analyze the breakup of the one-neutron halo nucleus $^{11}$Be measured at 520 MeV/nucleon at GSI on Pb and C targets within an eikonal description of the reaction including a proper treatment of special relativity. The Coulomb term of the projectile-target interaction is corrected at first order, while its nuclear part is described at the optical limit approximation. Excellent agreement with the data is obtained using a description of $^{11}$Be, which fits the breakup data of RIKEN. This solves the apparent discrepancy between the $dB({\rm E1})/dE$ estimations from GSI and RIKEN for this nu…
The quark-meson coupling model due to Guichon is formulated on the basis of the independent quark model of the nucleon proposed by Bogoliubov and is applied to a phenomenological description of symmetric nuclear matter. The model predicts, at saturation density, the compressibility $K=249$ MeV and the quark effective mass $m_q^*= 249.1$ MeV, {the effective nucleon mass being $M^*=747.3$ MeV}. The predicted nucleon mass radius is $r=0.93$ fm.
Using quantum molecular dynamics simulations, we investigate the formation of fragments in symmetric reactions between beam energies of E=30AMeV and 600AMeV. After a comparison with existing data we investigate some observables relevant to tackle equilibration: dsigma/dErat, the double differential cross section dsigma/pt.dpz.dpt,... Apart maybe from very energetic E>400AMeV and very central reactions, none of our simulations gives evidence that the system passes through a state of equilibrium. Later, we address the production mechanisms and find that, whatever the energy, nucleons finally ent…
Within the impulse approximation, the modeling of the energy of final state leptons in electron and neutrino quasielastic and pion production processes on nuclear targets in the region of the $Δ$ resonance depends on several parameters. These parameters include the removal energy of the initial state nucleon from the nucleus $ε^{P,N}$, the potentials of electrons, nucleons and pions in the Coulomb field of the nucleus $|V_{eff}|$, and the kinetic energy dependent nuclear potential for final state nucleons ($U^{QE}_{opt}$) and "nucleon plus pion" final states in the region of the $Δ$ resonance …
