Spectral singularities at non-zero frequencies play an important role in investigating cyclic or seasonal time series. The publication [2] introduced the generalized filtered method-of-moments approach to simultaneously estimate singularity location and long-memory parameters. This paper continues studies of these simultaneous estimators. A wide class of Gegenbauer-type semi-parametric models is considered. Asymptotic normality of several statistics of the cyclic and long-memory parameters is proved. New adjusted estimates are proposed and investigated. The theoretical findings are illustrated by numerical results. The methodology includes wavelet transformations as a particular case.
This paper deals with the estimation of hidden periodicities in a non-linear regression model with stationary noise displaying cyclical dependence. Consistency and asymptotic normality are established for the least-squares estimates.
In this paper, the estimation of parameters in the harmonic regression with cyclically dependent errors is addressed. Asymptotic properties of the least-squares estimates are analyzed by simulation experiments. By numerical simulation, we prove that consistency and asymptotic normality of the least-squares parameter estimator studied holds under different scenarios, where theoretical results do not exist, and have yet to be proven. In particular, these two asymptotic properties are shown by simulations for the least-squares parameter estimator in the non-linear regression model analyzed, when …
The Latent Block Model (LBM) is a model-based method to cluster simultaneously the $d$ columns and $n$ rows of a data matrix. Parameter estimation in LBM is a difficult and multifaceted problem. Although various estimation strategies have been proposed and are now well understood empirically, theoretical guarantees about their asymptotic behavior is rather sparse and most results are limited to the binary setting. We prove here theoretical guarantees in the valued settings. We show that under some mild conditions on the parameter space, and in an asymptotic regime where $\log(d)/n$ and $\log(n…
We simultaneously estimate the four parameters of a subcritical Heston process. We do not restrict ourself to the case where the stochastic volatility process never reaches zero. In order to avoid the use of unmanageable stopping times and natural but intractable estimator, we propose to make use of a weighted least squares estimator. We establish strong consistency and asymptotic normality for this estimator. Numerical simulations are also provided, illustrating the good performances of our estimation procedure.
We consider nonparametric regression in the context of functional data, that is, when a random sample of functions is observed on a fine grid. We obtain a functional asymptotic normality result allowing to build simultaneous confidence bands (SCB) for various estimation and inference tasks. Two applications to a SCB procedure for the regression function and to a goodness-of-fit test for curvilinear regression models are proposed. The first one has improved accuracy upon the other available methods while the second can detect local departures from a parametric shape, as opposed to the usual goo…
Estimating parameters of drift and diffusion coefficients for multidimensional stochastic delay equations with small noise are considered. The delay structure is written as an integral form with respect to a delay measure. Our contrast function is based on a local-Gauss approximation to the transition probability density of the process. We show consistency and asymptotic normality of the minimum-contrast estimator when the dispersion coefficient goes to zero and the sample size goes to infinity, simultaneously.
We consider the problem of parameter estimation for the partially observed linear stochastic differential equation. We assume that the unobserved Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process depends on some unknown parameter and estimate the unobserved process and the unknown parameter simultaneously. We construct the two-step MLE-process for the estimator of the parameter and describe its large sample asymptotic properties, including consistency and asymptotic normality. Using the Kalman-Bucy filtering equations we construct recurrent estimators of the state and the parameter.
We develop uniformly valid confidence regions for regression coefficients in a high-dimensional sparse median regression model with homoscedastic errors. Our methods are based on a moment equation that is immunized against non-regular estimation of the nuisance part of the median regression function by using Neyman's orthogonalization. We establish that the resulting instrumental median regression estimator of a target regression coefficient is asymptotically normally distributed uniformly with respect to the underlying sparse model and is semi-parametrically efficient. We also generalize our …
Cox proportional hazards model with measurement error is investigated. In Kukush et al. (2011) [Journal of Statistical Research 45, 77-94] and Chimisov and Kukush (2014) [Modern Stochastics: Theory and Applications 1, 13-32] asymptotic properties of simultaneous estimator $λ_n(\cdot)$, $β_n$ were studied for baseline hazard rate $λ(\cdot)$ and regression parameter $β$, at that the parameter set $Θ=Θ_λ\times Θ_β$ was assumed bounded. In the present paper, the set $Θ_λ$ is unbounded from above and not separated away from $0$. We construct the estimator in two steps: first we derive a strongly co…
We propose simultaneous mean-variance regression for the linear estimation and approximation of conditional mean functions. In the presence of heteroskedasticity of unknown form, our method accounts for varying dispersion in the regression outcome across the support of conditioning variables by using weights that are jointly determined with the mean regression parameters. Simultaneity generates outcome predictions that are guaranteed to improve over ordinary least-squares prediction error, with corresponding parameter standard errors that are automatically valid. Under shape misspecification o…
Let X be a second order random process indexed by a compact interval [0,T]. Assume that n independent realizations of X are observed on a fixed grid of p time points. Under mild regularity assumptions on the sample paths of X, we show the asymptotic normality of suitable nonparametric estimators of the trend function mu = EX in the space C([0,T]) as n, p go to infinity and, using Gaussian process theory, we derive approximate simultaneous confidence bands for mu.
Multivariate extreme value theory is concerned with modeling the joint tail behavior of several random variables. Existing work mostly focuses on asymptotic dependence, where the probability of observing a large value in one of the variables is of the same order as observing a large value in all variables simultaneously. However, there is growing evidence that asymptotic independence is equally important in real world applications. Available statistical methodology in the latter setting is scarce and not well understood theoretically. We revisit non-parametric estimation and introduce rank-bas…
The normality assumption on data set is very restrictive approach for modelling. The generalized form of normal distribution, named as an exponential power (EP) distribution, and its scale mixture form have been considered extensively to overcome the problem for modelling non-normal data set since last decades. However, examining the robustness properties of maximum likelihood (ML) estimators of parameters in these distributions, such as the in uence function, gross-error sensitivity, breakdown point and information-standardized sensitivity, has not been considered together. The well-known asy…
A class of variable selection procedures for parametric models via nonconcave penalized likelihood was proposed by Fan and Li to simultaneously estimate parameters and select important variables. They demonstrated that this class of procedures has an oracle property when the number of parameters is finite. However, in most model selection problems the number of parameters should be large and grow with the sample size. In this paper some asymptotic properties of the nonconcave penalized likelihood are established for situations in which the number of parameters tends to \infty as the sample siz…
In this paper, a nonparametric estimator is proposed for estimating the L1-median for multivariate conditional distribution when the covariates take values in an infinite dimensional space. The multivariate case is more appropriate to predict the components of a vector of random variables simultaneously rather than predicting each of them separately. While estimating the conditional L1-median function using the well-known Nadarya-Waston estimator, we establish the strong consistency of this estimator as well as the asymptotic normality. We also present some simulations and provide how to built…

Our problem of interest is to cluster vertices of a graph by identifying underlying community structure. Among various vertex clustering approaches, spectral clustering is one of the most popular methods because it is easy to implement while often outperforming more traditional clustering algorithms. However, there are two inherent model selection problems in spectral clustering, namely estimating both the embedding dimension and number of clusters. This paper attempts to address the issue by establishing a novel model selection framework specifically for vertex clustering on graphs under a st…
We propose a numerical method to evaluate the performance of the emerging Generalized Shiryaev--Roberts (GSR) change-point detection procedure in a "minimax-ish" multi-cyclic setup where the procedure of choice is applied repetitively (cyclically) and the change is assumed to take place at an unknown time moment in a distant-future stationary regime. Specifically, the proposed method is based on the integral-equations approach and uses the collocation technique with the basis functions chosen so as to exploit a certain change-of-measure identity and the GSR detection statistic's unique marting…
This paper introduces a general continuous form of poverty index that encompasses most of the existing formulas in the literature. We then propose a consistent estimator for this index in case the poverty line is a functional of the distribution. We also establish a uniform functional Central Limit Theorem for the proposed estimator over a suitable product class of real-valued functions. As a consequence, testing procedures based either on single or simultaneously several poverty indices can be developed. A simulation study showing the asymptotic normality of the estimator is given as well as …
Thanks to their ability to capture complex dependence structures, copulas are frequently used to glue random variables into a joint model with arbitrary marginal distributions. More recently, they have been applied to solve statistical learning problems such as regression or classification. Framing such approaches as solutions of estimating equations, we generalize them in a unified framework. We can then obtain simultaneous, coherent inferences across multiple regression-like problems. We derive consistency, asymptotic normality, and validity of the bootstrap for corresponding estimators. The…
Stochastic approximation (SA) algorithms are widely used in system optimization problems when only noisy measurements of the system are available. This paper studies two types of SA algorithms in a multivariate Kiefer-Wolfowitz setting: random-direction SA (RDSA) and simultaneous-perturbation SA (SPSA), and then describes the bias term, convergence, and asymptotic normality of RDSA algorithms. The gradient estimations in RDSA and SPSA have different forms and, consequently, use different types of random perturbations. This paper looks at various valid distributions for perturbations in RDSA an…
We introduce a novel regression framework which simultaneously models the quantile and the Expected Shortfall (ES) of a response variable given a set of covariates. This regression is based on a strictly consistent loss function for the pair quantile and ES, which allows for M- and Z-estimation of the joint regression parameters. We show consistency and asymptotic normality for both estimators under weak regularity conditions. The underlying loss function depends on two specification functions, whose choice affects the properties of the resulting estimators. We find that the Z-estimator is num…
We propose a new estimator for the integrated covariance of two Ito semimartingales observed at a high-frequency. This new estimator, which we call the pre-averaged truncated Hayashi-Yoshida estimator, enables us to separate the sum of the co-jumps from the total quadratic covariation even in the case that the sampling schemes of two processes are nonsynchronous and the observation data is polluted by some noise. It is the first estimator which can simultaneously handle these three issues, which are fundamental to empirical studies of high-frequency financial data. We also show the asymptotic …
We consider the problem of simultaneous variable selection and estimation in additive, partially linear models for longitudinal/clustered data. We propose an estimation procedure via polynomial splines to estimate the nonparametric components and apply proper penalty functions to achieve sparsity in the linear part. Under reasonable conditions, we obtain the asymptotic normality of the estimators for the linear components and the consistency of the estimators for the nonparametric components. We further demonstrate that, with proper choice of the regularization parameter, the penalized estimat…
