We make a systematic study of frames for metric spaces. We prove that every separable metric space admits a metric $\mathcal{M}_d$-frame. Through Lipschitz-free Banach spaces we show that there is a correspondence between frames for metric spaces and frames for subsets of Banach spaces. We derive some characterizations of metric frames. We also derive stability results for metric frames.
We obtain sufficient conditions for existence of unique fixed point of Kannan type mappings on complete metric spaces and on generalized complete metric spaces depended an another function.
In this paper, we prove that the topology induced by algebraic cone metric coincides with the topology induced by the metric obtained via a nonlinear scalarization function, i.e. any algebraic cone metric space is metrizable. Furthermore, the notion of algebraic cone normed space is introduced and also normability of the topology of this space is proved.
In this paper we shall show that the metrics are equivalent which obtained by Feng and Mao in [[1], Y. Feng and W. Mao, Equivalence of Cone Metric spaces and Metric Spaces, Fixed Point Theory, 11(2)(2010), 259-264.] and Du in [[2], Wei-Shih Du, A Note on Cone Metric Fixed Point Theory and its equivalence, Nonlinear Analysis, 72 2259-2261 (2010)]. Also in the sequel we calculate some examples by one of the metrics.
In this paper, a metric on $S_b$-metric space analogous to the Hausdorff metric has been introduced and some basic properties are obtained on multi-valued $S_b$-metric space. Further, the fundamental multi-valued contraction of Nadler(1962) has been extended to the $S_b$-metric space setting, and two results have been established. The entire study is supported by suitable examples.
In this paper we show that by renorming an ordered Banach space, every cone P can be converted to a normal cone with constant K = 1 and consequently due to this approach every cone metric space is really a metric one and every theorem in metric space valid for cone metric space automatically.
There have been a number of generalizations of fixed point results to the so called TVS-cone metric spaces, based on a distance function that takes values in some cone with nonempty interior (solid cone) in some topological vector space. In this paper we prove that the TVS-cone metric space can be equipped with a family of mutually equivalent (usual) metrics such that the convergence (resp. property of being Cauchy sequence, contractivity condition) in TVS sense is equivalent to convergence (resp. property of being Cauchy sequence, contractivity condition) in all of these metrics. As a consequ…
We prove that the Lipschitz-free space over a countable proper metric space is isometric to a dual space and has the metric approximation property. We also show that the Lipschitz-free space over a proper ultrametric space is isometric to the dual of a space which is isomorphic to c_0.
In 2007 H. Long-Guang and Z. Xian, [H. Long-Guang and Z. Xian, Cone Metric Spaces and Fixed Point Theorems of Contractive Mapping, J. Math. Anal. Appl., 322(2007), 1468-1476], generalized the concept of a metric space, by introducing cone metric spaces, and obtained some fixed point theorems for mappings satisfying certain contractive conditions. The main question was "Are cone metric spaces a real generalization of metric spaces?" Throughout this paper we answer the question in the negative, proving that every cone metric space is metrizable and the equivalent metric satisfies the same contra…
The Kantorovich metric provides a way of measuring the distance between two Borel probability measures on a metric space. This metric has a broad range of applications from bioinformatics to image processing, and is commonly linked to the optimal transport problem in computer science. Noteworthy to this paper will be the role of the Kantorovich metric in the study of iterated function systems, which are families of contractive mappings on a complete metric space. When the underlying metric space is compact, it is well known that the space of Borel probability measures on this metric space, equ…
In this article, we present some fixed point theorems in partially ordered G-metric space using the concept of $(ψ,ϕ)$- weak contraction which extend many existing fixed point theorems in such space. We also give some examples to show that if we transform a metric space into a G-metric space our results are not equivalent to the existing results in metric space.
The concept of a $ C $*-algebra-valued metric space was introduced in 2014. It is a generalization of a metric space by replacing the set of real numbers by a $ C $*-algebra. In this paper, we show that $ C $*-algebra-valued metric spaces are cone metric spaces in some point of view which is useful to extend results of the cone case to $ C $*-algebra-valued metric spaces. Then the completion theorem of $ C $*-algebra-valued metric spaces is obtained. Moreover, the completion theorem of $ C $*-algebra-valued normed spaces is verified and the connection with Hilbert $ C $*-modules, generalized i…
In this manuscript, we claim that the newly introduced $\mathcal{F}$-metric space \cite[\, M.~Jleli and B.~Samet, On a new generalization of metric spaces, J. Fixed Point Theory Appl, 20(3) 2018]{JS1} is metrizable. Also, we deduce that the notions of convergence, Cauchy sequence, completeness due to Jleli and Samet for $\mathcal{F}$-metric spaces are equivalent with that of usual metric spaces. Moreover, we assert that the Banach contraction principle in the context of $\mathcal{F}$-metric spaces is a direct consequence of its standard metric counterpart.
The main aim of this paper is to study of fixed point theory in partial cone metric spaces. Infact, some common fixed point theorems for two mappings in partial cone metric spaces are obtained.
Using isoperimetry we obtain new symmetrization inequalities that allow us to provide a unified framework to study Sobolev inequalities in metric spaces. The applications include concentration inequalities, as well as metric versions of the Pó% lya-Szegö and Faber-Krahn principles.
In this paper, we give a generalization of Hicks type contractions and Golet type contractions on fuzzy metric spaces. We prove some fixed point theorems for this new type contractions mappings on fuzzy metric spaces.
Here we have introduced the idea of rough Cauchyness of sequences in a cone metric space. Also here we have discussed several basic properties of rough Cauchy sequences in a cone metric space using the idea of Phu.
The paper is concerned with b-metric and generalized b-metric spaces. One proves the existence of the completion of a generalized b-metric space and some fixed point results. The behavior of Lipschitz functions on b-metric spaces of homogeneous type, as well as of Lipschitz functions defined on, or with values in quasi-Banach spaces, is studied.
The aim of this paper is to present some fixed point theorems for generalized contractions by altering distance functions in a complete cone metric spaces endowed with a partial order. We also generalize fixed point theorems of J. Harjani, K. Sadarangani [J. Harjani, K. Sadarangani, Generalized contractions in partially ordered metric spaces and applications to ordinary differential equations, Nonlinear Analysis 72 (2010) 1188-1197] from metric spaces to cone metric spaces.
The notion of metric compactification was introduced by Gromov and later rediscovered by Rieffel; and has been mainly studied on proper geodesic metric spaces. We present here a generalization of the metric compactification that can be applied to infinite-dimensional Banach spaces. Thereafter we give a complete description of the metric compactification of infinite-dimensional $\ell_{p}$ spaces for all $1\leq p < \infty$. We also give a full characterization of the metric compactification of infinite-dimensional Hilbert spaces.
It is known that if any function acting from precompact metric space to itself increases the distance between some pair of points then it must decrease distance between some other pair of points. We show that this is not the case for quasi-metric spaces. After that, we present some sufficient conditions under which the previous property holds true for hereditarily precompact quasi-metric spaces.
We prove that every complete metric space with property (Z) is a length space. These answers questions posed by García-Lirola, Procházka and Rueda Zoca, and by Becerra Guerrero, López-Pérez and Rueda Zoca, related to the structure of Lipschitz-free Banach spaces of metric spaces.
In this paper, we introduce double controlled cone metric spaces via two control functions. An example of a double controlled cone metric space by two incomparable functions, which is not a controlled metric space, is given. We also provide some fixed point results involving Banach type and Kannan type contractions in the setting of double controlled cone metric spaces.
Naor and Mendel's metric cotype extends the notion of the Rademacher cotype of a Banach space to all metric spaces. Every Banach space has metric cotype at least 2. We show that any metric space that is bi-Lipschitz equivalent to an ultrametric space has infinimal metric cotype 1. We discuss the invariance of metric cotype inequalities under snowflaking mappings and Gromov-Hausdorff limits, and use these facts to establish a partial converse of the main result.
The famous Banach Contraction Principle holds in complete metric spaces, but completeness is not a necessary condition -- there are incomplete metric spaces on which every contraction has a fixed point. The aim of this paper is to present various circumstances in which fixed point results imply completeness. For metric spaces this is the case of Ekeland variational principle and of its equivalent - Caristi fixed point theorem. Other fixed point results having this property will be also presented in metric spaces, in quasi-metric spaces and in partial metric spaces. A discussion on topology and…
We introduce the notion of a quantum locally compact metric space, which is the noncommutative analogue of a locally compact metric space, and generalize to the nonunital setting the notion of quantum metric spaces introduced by Rieffel. We then provide several examples of such structures, including the Moyal plane, as well as compact quantum metric spaces and locally compact metric spaces. This paper provides an answer to the question raised in the literature about the proper notion of a quantum metric space in the nonunital setup and offers important insights into noncommutative geometry for…
In the recent work [Metrically round and sleek metric spaces, \emph{The Journal of Analysis} (2022), pp 1--17], the authors proved some results on metrically round and sleek linear metric spaces and metric spaces. In continuation, the present article discusses more results on such spaces along with identification of round and sleek subsets of linear metric spaces and metric spaces in the subspace topology.
We prove a compactness result for bounded sequences $(u_j)_j$ of functions with bounded variation in metric spaces $(X,d_j)$ where the space $X$ is fixed but the metric may vary with $j$. We also provide an application to Carnot-Carathéodory spaces.
In this paper we construct a metric on the space of idempotent probability measures on the given compactum, which is an idempotent analog of the Kantorovich metric on the space of probability measures.
We derive sharp Sobolev inequalities for Sobolev spaces on metric spaces. In particular, we obtain new sharp Sobolev embeddings and Faber-Krahn estimates for Hörmander vector fields.
We develop a theory of BV and Sobolev Spaces via integration by parts formula in abstract metric spaces; the role of vector fields is played by Weaver's metric derivations. The definition hereby given is shown to be equivalent to many others present in literature.
On a metric measure space satisfying the doubling property, we establish several optimal characterizations of Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces, including a pointwise characterization. Moreover, we discuss their (non)triviality under a Poincaré inequality.
We show that under minimal assumptions, the intrinsic metric induced by a strongly local Dirichlet form induces a length space. A main input is a dual characterization of length spaces in terms of the property that the 1-Lipschitz functions form a sheaf.
We prove that the Lipschitz free space over a certain type of discrete metric space has the Radon-Nikodým property. We also show that the Lipschitz free space over a complete, locally compact metric space has the Schur or approximation property whenever the Lipschitz free space over each compact subset also has this property.
We introduce vectorial and topological continuities for functions defined on vector metric spaces and illustrate spaces of such functions. Also, we describe some fundamental classes of vector valued functions and extension theorems.
