Given a smooth bump function, we consider the multiplier formed by taking the linear combination of the translations of the bump function and the corresponding bilinear Fourier multiplier operator. Under certain condition on the bump function, we give a complete characterization of the coefficients of the linear combination for which the corresponding bilinear operator defines a bounded operator from $L^2\times L^2$ to $L^2$-based amalgam spaces.
We consider the bilinear Fourier multiplier operator with the multiplier written as a linear combination of a fixed bump function. For those operators we prove two transference theorems, one in amalgam spaces and the other in Wiener amalgam spaces.
We study the Fourier transform windowed by a bump function. We transfer Jackson's classical results on the convergence of the Fourier series of a periodic function to windowed series of a not necessarily periodic function. Numerical experiments illustrate the obtained theoretical results.
The existence of a smooth, nonnegative, compactly supported function with monotone (on the half-line) Fourier transform satisfying two-sided decay bounds is demonstrated.
We prove the $L^p$ boundedness of a maximal operator associated with a dyadic frequency decomposition of a Fourier multiplier, under a weak regularity assumption.
In the paper we study the multipliers of Fourier series in polynomials orthogonal in continuous-discrete Sobolev's spaces. Multiplier Theorem for Fourier-Sobolev series is obtained. This result is based on the representation of the Fejér kernel, on the construction of the "humpbacked majorant" and weighted estimates of maximal functions.
We prove a Hörmander type multiplier theorem for multilinear Fourier multipiers with multiple weights. We also give weighted estimates for their commutators with vector $BMO$ functions.
In this paper, we study properties of the bilinear multiplier space. We give a necessary condition for a continuous integrable function to be a bilinear multiplier on variable exponent Lebesgue spaces. And we prove the localization theorem of multipliers on variable exponent Lebesgue spaces. Moreover, we present a Mihlin-Hörmander type theorem for multilinear Fourier multipliers on weighted variable Lebesgue spaces and give some applications.
We prove a weighted inequality which controls conic Fourier multiplier operators in terms of lacunary directional maximal operators. By bounding the maximal operators, this enables us to conclude that the multiplier operators are bounded on $L^p(\mathbb{R}^3)$ with $1<p<\infty$.
We investigate connections between radial Fourier multipliers on $R^d$ and certain conical Fourier multipliers on $R^{d+1}$. As an application we obtain a new weak type endpoint bound for the Bochner-Riesz multipliers associated to the light cone in $R^{d+1}$, where $d\ge 4$, and results on characterizations of $L^p\to L^{p,ν}$ inequalities for convolutions with radial kernels.
We consider quasiradial Fourier multipliers, i.e. multipliers of the form $m(a(ξ))$ for a class of distance functions $a$. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the multiplier transformations to be bounded on $L^p$ for a certain range of $p$. In addition, when $m$ is compactly supported in $(0,\infty)$, we give a similar result for associated maximal operators.
We provide asymptotically sharp bounds for the $L_p$ norms of the Fourier multipliers with the symbols $e^{iλφ(ξ/|ξ|)}$, where $λ\in \mathbb{R}$ is a large parameter.
In this paper, we give explicit expressions of differential-difference operators appeared in the hypothesis of the general Fourier multiplier theorem associated to the Heisenberg groups proved by Mauceri and De Micheal for one dimension and C. Lin for higher dimension. We also give a much shorter proof of the above-mentioned theorem. Then we obtain a sharp weighted estimate for Fourier multipliers on the Heisenberg groups.
In this paper, the $L^2 \times L^{\infty} \to L^2$ and $L^2 \times L^2 \to L^1$ boundedness of bilinear Fourier multiplier operators is discussed under weak smoothness conditions on multipliers. As an application, we prove the $L^2 \times BMO \to L^2$ and $L^2 \times L^2 \to H^1$ boundedness of bilinear operators with multipliers of limited smoothness satisfying vanishing conditions.
We consider certain Littlewood-Paley operators and prove characterization of some function spaces in terms of those operators. When treating weighted Lebesgue spaces, a generalization to weighted spaces will be made for Hörmander's theorem on the invertibility of homogeneous Fourier multipliers. Also, applications to the theory of Sobolev spaces will be given.
In this paper, we investigate the $H^p(G) \rightarrow L^p(G)$, $0< p \leq 1$, boundedness of multiplier operators defined via group Fourier transform on a graded Lie group $G$, where $H^p(G)$ is the Hardy space on $G$. Our main result extends those obtained in [Colloq. Math. \textbf{165} (2021), 1--30], where the $L^1(G)\rightarrow L^{1,\infty}(G)$ and $L^p(G) \rightarrow L^p(G)$, $1< p <\infty$, boundedness of such Fourier multiplier operators were proved.
We give a simple necessary and sufficient condition for maximal operators associated with radial Fourier multipliers to be bounded on $L^p_{rad}$ and $L^p$ for certain $p$ greater than $2$. The range of exponents obtained for the $L^p_{rad}$ characterization is optimal for the given condition. The $L^p$ characterization is derived from an inequality of Heo, Nazarov, and Seeger regarding a characterization of radial Fourier multipliers.
We begin with an overview on square functions for spherical and Bochner-Riesz means which were introduced by Eli Stein, and discuss their implications for radial multipliers and associated maximal functions. We then prove new endpoint estimates for these square functions, for the maximal Bochner-Riesz operator, and for more general classes of radial Fourier multipliers.
In this paper, we introduce a criterion for maximal operators associated with Fourier multipliers to be bounded on $L^p(\mathbb{R}^d)$. Noteworthy examples satisfying the criterion are multipliers of the Mikhlin type or limited decay which are not necessarily radial. To do so, we make use of modified square function estimates and bilinear interpolation. In result, we obtain convergence results for fractional half-wave equations and surface averages as well as the $L^p$ boundedness for the maximal operators.
We study the relationship between stable sampling sequences for bandlimited functions in $L^p(\R^n)$ and the Fourier multipliers in $L^p$. In the case that the sequence is a lattice and the spectrum is a fundamental domain for the lattice the connection is complete. In the case of irregular sequences there is still a partial relationship.
We show that maximal operators formed by dilations of Mikhlin-H"ormander multipliers are typically not bounded on $L^p(R^d)$. We also give rather weak conditions in terms of the decay of such multipliers under which $L^p$ boundedness of the maximal operators holds.
In this paper, we study multilinear Fourier multiplier operators on Hardy spaces. In particular, we prove that the multilinear Fourier multiplier operator of Hörmander type is bounded from $H^{p_1} \times \cdots \times H^{p_m}$ to $H^p$ for $0<p_1,\dots,p_m\le 1$ with $1/p_1 + \cdots 1/p_m = 1/p$, under suitable cancellation conditions. As a result, we extend the trilinear estimates of the authors(arXiv:2107.00225) to general multilinear ones and improve the boundedness result of the authors, Lee, Heo, Hong, Park, and Yang(Math. Ann. 381 : 499-555, 2021) in limiting situations.
Under the assumption that orthogonal polynomials of several variables admit an addition formula, we can define a convolution structure and use it to study the Fourier orthogonal expansions on a homogeneous space. We define a maximal function via the convolution structure induced by the addition formula and use it to establish a Marcinkiewicz multiplier theorem. For the homogeneous space defined by a family of weight functions on conic domains, we show that the maximal function is bounded by the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function so that the multiplier theorem holds on conic domains.
In this article we revisit some classical conjectures in harmonic analysis in the setting of mixed norm spaces $L^p_{rad} L^2_{ang} (\mathbb{R}^n)$. We produce sharp bounds for the restriction of the Fourier transform to compact hypersurfaces of revolution in the mixed norm setting and study an extension of the disc multiplier. We also present some results for the discrete restriction conjecture and state an intriguing open problem.
Given a fixed $p\neq 2$, we prove a simple and effective characterization of all radial multipliers of $\cF L^p(\Bbb R^d)$, provided that the dimension $d$ is sufficiently large. The method also yields new $L^q$ space-time regularity results for solutions of the wave equation in high dimensions.
We study a.e. convergence on $L^p$, and Lorentz spaces $L^{p,q}$, $p>\tfrac{2d}{d-1}$, for variants of Riesz means at the critical index $d(\tfrac 12-\tfrac 1p)-\tfrac12$. We derive more general results for (quasi-)radial Fourier multipliers and associated maximal functions, acting on $L^2$ spaces with power weights, and their interpolation spaces. We also include a characterization of boundedness of such multiplier transformations on weighted $L^2$ spaces, and a sharp endpoint bound for Stein's square-function associated with the Riesz means.
We prove that for radial Fourier multipliers $m: \mathbb{R}^3\to\mathbb{C}$ supported compactly away from the origin, $T_m$ is restricted strong type (p,p) if $K=\hat{m}$ is in $L^p(\mathbb{R}^3)$, in the range $1<p<\frac{13}{12}$. We also prove an $L^p$ characterization for radial Fourier multipliers in four dimensions; namely, for radial Fourier multipliers $m: \mathbb{R}^4\to\mathbb{C}$ supported compactly away from the origin, $T_m$ is bounded on $L^p(\mathbb{R}^4)$ if and only if $K=\hat{m}$ is in $L^p(\mathbb{R}^4)$, in the range $1<p<\frac{36}{29}$. Our method of proof relies on a geome…
We investigate two types of boundedness criteria for bilinear Fourier multiplier operators with symbols with bounded partial derivatives of all (or sufficiently many) orders. Theorems of the first type explicitly prescribe only a certain rate of decay of the symbol itself while theorems of the second type require, in addition, the same rate of decay of all derivatives of the symbol. We show that even though these two types of bilinear multiplier theorems are closely related, there are some fundamental differences between them which arise in limiting cases. Also, since theorems of the latter ty…
We control a broad class of singular (or "rough") Fourier multipliers by geometrically-defined maximal operators via general weighted $L^2(\mathbb{R})$ norm inequalities. The multipliers involved are related to those of Coifman--Rubio de Francia--Semmes, satisfying certain weak Marcinkiewicz-type conditions that permit highly oscillatory factors of the form $e^{i|ξ|^α}$ for both $α$ positive and negative. The maximal functions that arise are of some independent interest, involving fractional averages associated with tangential approach regions (related to those of Nagel and Stein), and more no…
We prove endpoint-type sparse bounds for Walsh-Fourier Marcinkiewicz multipliers and Littlewood-Paley square functions. These results are motivated by conjectures of Lerner in the Fourier setting. As a corollary, we obtain novel quantitative weighted norm inequalities for these operators. Among these, we establish the sharp growth rate of the $L^p$ weighted operator norm in terms of the $A_p$ characteristic in the full range $1<p<\infty$ for Walsh-Littlewood-Paley square functions, and a restricted range for Marcinkiewicz multipliers. Zygmund's $L{(\log L)^{\frac12}}$ inequality is the core of…
In this paper we study sharp generalizations of $\dot{F}_p^{0,q}$ multiplier theorem of Mikhlin-Hörmander type. The class of multipliers that we consider involves Herz spaces $K_u^{s,t}$. Plancherel's theorem proves $\widehat{L_s^2}=K_2^{s,2}$ and we study the optimal triple $(u,t,s)$ for which $\sup_{k\in\mathbb{Z}}{\big\Vert \big( m(2^k\cdot)φ\big)^{\vee}\big\Vert_{K_u^{s,t}}}<\infty$ implies $\dot{F}_p^{0,q}$ boundedness of multiplier operator $T_m$ where $φ$ is a cutoff function. Our result also covers the $BMO$-type space $\dot{F}_{\infty}^{0,q}$.
We prove endpoint bounds for derivatives of fractional maximal functions with either smooth convolution kernel or lacunary set of radii in dimensions $n \geq 2$. We also show that the spherical fractional maximal function maps $L^{p}$ into a first order Sobolev space in dimensions $n \geq 5$.
We study the boundedness on the Wiener amalgam spaces $W^{p,q}_s$ of Fourier multipliers with symbols of the type $e^{iμ(ξ)}$, for some real-valued functions $μ(ξ)$ whose prototype is $|ξ|^β$ with $β\in (0,2]$. Under some suitable assumptions on $μ$, we give the characterization of $W^{p,q}_s\rightarrow W^{p,q}$ boundedness of $e^{iμ(D)}$, for arbitrary pairs of $0< p,q\leq \infty$. Our results are an essential improvement of the previous known results, for both sides of sufficiency and necessity, even for the special case $μ(ξ)=|ξ|^β$ with $1<β<2$.
We consider the algebras $M_p$ of Fourier multipliers and show that every bounded continuous function $f$ on $\mathbb R^d$ can be transformed by an appropriate homeomorphic change of variable into a function that belongs to $M_p(\mathbb R^d)$ for all $p$, $1<p<\infty$. Moreover, under certain assumptions on a family $K$ of continuous functions, one change of variable will suffice for all $f\in K$. A similar result holds for functions on the torus $\mathbb T^d$. This may be contrasted with the known result on the Wiener algebra, related to Luzin's rearrangement problem.
Let $T$ be a multilinear operator which is bounded on certain products of unweighted Lebesgue spaces of $\mathbb R^n$. We assume that the associated kernel of $T$ satisfies some mild regularity condition which is weaker than the usual Hölder continuity of those in the class of multilinear Calderón-Zygmund singular integral operators. We then show the boundedness for $T$ and the boundedness of the commutator of $T$ with BMO functions on products of weighted Lebesgue spaces of $\mathbb R^n$. As an application, we obtain the weighted norm inequalities of multilinear Fourier multipliers and of the…
In this paper, estimates are proven for convolution kernels associated to multipliers from a reasonably general class of compactly supported two-dimensional functions constructed out of real-analytic functions. These estimates are both for overall decay rate and decay rate in specific directions. The estimates are sharp for a certain range of exponents appearing in the theorems.
The ranges of a certain type of second order differential operator, on a Sobolev subspace of the Lebesgue space $L^2$ of the circle group, can be characterised by the vanishing of the Fourier coefficients at (generally) two integers that are the zeros of the multiplier of the operator. It is proved here that the range of any such operator may be alternatively described as comprising those functions in $L^2$ that are the sum of five generalised second order differences, each such difference involving the zeros of the multiplier. In fact, higher order operators and differences are considered. Th…
The paper provides a complement to the classical results on Fourier multipliers on $L^p$ spaces. In particular, we prove that if $q\in (1,2)$ and a function $m:\mathbb{R} \rightarrow \mathbb{C}$ is of bounded $q$-variation uniformly on the dyadic intervals in $\mathbb{R}$, i.e. $m\in V_q(\mathcal{D})$, then $m$ is a Fourier multiplier on $L^p(\mathbb{R}, wdx)$ for every $p\geq q$ and every weight $w$ satisfying Muckenhoupt's $A_{p/q}$-condition. We also obtain a higher dimensional counterpart of this result as well as of a result by E. Berkson and T.A. Gillespie including the case of the $V_q(…
One can define Fourier multipliers on a Banach function space by using the direct and inverse Fourier transforms on $L^2(\mathbb{R}^n)$ or by using the direct Fourier transform on $S(\mathbb{R}^n)$ and the inverse one on $S'(\mathbb{R}^n)$. In the former case, one assumes that the Fourier multipliers belong to $L^\infty(\mathbb{R}^n)$, while in the latter one this requirement may or may not be included in the definition. We provide sufficient conditions for those definitions to coincide as well as examples when they differ. In particular, we prove that if a Banach function space $X(\mathbb{R}^…
In this paper we investigate the boundedness properties of bilinear multiplier operators associated with unimodular functions of the form $m(ξ,η)=e^{i ϕ(ξ-η)}$. We prove that if $ϕ$ is a $C^1(\mathbb R^n)$ real-valued non-linear function, then for all exponents $p,q,r$ lying outside the local $L^2-$range and satisfying the Hölder's condition $\frac{1}{p}+\frac{1}{q}=\frac{1}{r}$, the bilinear multiplier norm $$\|e^{iλϕ(ξ-η)}\|_{\mathcal M_{p,q,r}(\mathbb R^n)}\rightarrow \infty,~ λ\in \mathbb R,~ |λ|\rightarrow \infty.$$ For exponents in the local $L^2-$range, we give examples of unimodular fu…
The Ionescu--Wainger multiplier theorem establishes good $L^p$ bounds for Fourier multiplier operators localized to major arcs; it has become an indispensible tool in discrete harmonic analysis. We give a simplified proof of this theorem with more explicit constants (removing logarithmic losses that were present in previous versions of the theorem), and give a more general variant involving adelic Fourier multipliers. We also establish a closely related adelic sampling theorem that shows that $\ell^p(\Z^d)$ norms of functions with Fourier transform supported on major arcs are comparable to the…
In this short note, we prove that the subspace of radial multipliers is contractively complemented in the space of Fourier multipliers on the Bochner space $\mathrm{L}^p(\mathbb{R}^n,X)$ where $X$ is a Banach space and where $1 \leq p <\infty$. Moreover, if $X = \mathbb{C}$, then this complementation preserves the positivity of multipliers.
We give characterizations of radial Fourier multipliers as acting on radial L^p-functions, 1<p<2d/(d+1), in terms of Lebesgue space norms for Fourier localized pieces of the convolution kernel. This is a special case of corresponding results for general Hankel multipliers. Besides L^p-L^q bounds we also characterize weak type inequalities and intermediate inequalities involving Lorentz spaces. Applications include results on interpolation of multiplier spaces.
We establish Littlewood-Paley decompositions for Muckenhoupt weights in the setting of UMD spaces. As a consequence we obtain two-weight variants of the Mikhlin multiplier theorem for operator-valued multipliers. We also show two-weight estimates for multipliers satisfying Hörmander type conditions.
We prove $L^p$ estimates for trilinear multiplier operators with singular symbols. These operators arise in the study of iterated trilinear Fourier integrals, which are trilinear variants of the bilinear Hilbert transform. Specifically, we consider trilinear operators determined by multipliers that are products of two functions ${m}_1(ξ_1, ξ_2)$ and ${m}_2(ξ_2, ξ_3)$, such that the singular set of $m_1$ lies in the hyperplane $ ξ_1=ξ_2$ and that of $m_2$ lies in the hyperplane $ξ_2=ξ_3$. While previous work \cite{MTT2} requires that the multipliers satisfy $χ_{ξ_1 <ξ_2} \cdot χ_{ξ_2<ξ_3}$, our…
Timelimited functions and bandlimited functions play a fundamental role in signal and image processing. But by the uncertainty principles, a signal cannot be simultaneously time and bandlimited. A natural assumption is thus that a signal is almost time and almost bandlimited. The aim of this paper is to prove that the set of almost time and almost bandlimited signals is not excluded from the uncertainty principles. The transforms under consideration are integral operators with bounded kernels for which there is a Parseval Theorem. Then we define the wavelet multipliers for this class of operat…
We show that several definitions of algebras of continuous Fourier multipliers on variable Lebesgue spaces over the real line are equivalent under some natural assumptions on variable exponents. Some of our results are new even in the case of standard Lebesgue spaces and give answers on two questions about algebras of continuous Fourier multipliers on Lebesgue spaces over the real line posed by H. Mascarenhas, P. Santos and M. Seidel.
We obtain sufficient conditions for convergence (almost everywhere) of multiple trigonometric Fourier series of functions $f$ in $L_2$ in terms of Weyl multipliers. We consider the case where rectangular partial sums of Fourier series $S_n(x;f)$ have indices $n=(n_1,\dots,n_N) \in \mathbb Z^N$, $N\ge 3$, in which $k$ $(1\leq k\leq N-2)$ components on the places $\{j_1,\dots,j_k\}=J_k \subset \{1,\dots,N\} = M$ are elements of (single) lacunary sequences (i.e., we consider the, so called, multiple Fourier series with $J_k$-lacunary sequence of partial sums). We prove that for any sample $J_k\su…
We inspect the relationship between relative Fourier multipliers on noncommutative Lebesgue-Orlicz spaces of a discrete group and relative Toeplitz-Schur multipliers on Schatten-von-Neumann-Orlicz classes. Four applications are given: lacunary sets; unconditional Schauder bases for the subspace of a Lebesgue space determined by a given spectrum, that is, by a subset of the group; the norm of the Hilbert transform and the Riesz projection on Schatten-von-Neumann classes with exponent a power of 2; the norm of Toeplitz Schur multipliers on Schatten-von-Neumann classes with exponent less than 1.
