We propose a simple method to calculate transition time in a two-state scattering problem, where two constant potentials are coupled by a delta function potential $V_{12}=V_{21}=k_0 δ(x)$. The exact analytical expression for the time of transition $τ$ is derived. We notice $τ$ explicitly depends on the second state's potential energy along with the incident energy and coupling strength. We also observe from the derived expression of $τ$ that depending on the initial energy, the coupling potential could behave like a transparent or opaque medium to the incident wave in a single state equivalent description.
We propose an exactly solvable model for the two state curve crossing problems. Our model assumes the coupling to be a delta function. It is used to calculate the effect of curve crossing on electronic absorption spectrum and resonance Raman excitation profile.
A model consisting of a Harmonic Oscillator well and a linear potential, coupled by Dirac delta function, is solved. We find the exact analytical expressions for Green's function for this problem. This Green's functions are used to calculate the Raman excitation profile and electronic absorption spectrum.
Starting from few simple examples we have proposed a general method for finding an exact analytical solution for the two state scattering problem in presence of a delta function coupling. We have also extended our model to deal with general one dimensional multi-channel scattering problems.
Using the underlying su(2) algebra of the Jaynes-Cummings Model (JCM), we construct a time dependent interaction term that allows analytical solution for even off-resonance conditions. Exact solutions for the time evolution of any state has been found. The effect of detuning on the Rabi oscillations and the collapse and revival of inversion is indicated. It is also shown that at resonance, the time dependent JCM is analytically solvable for an arbitrary interaction term.
A protocol for explicitly constructing the exact time-evolution operators generated by $2 \times 2$ time-dependent $PT$-symmetry Hamiltonians is reported. Its mathematical applicability is illustrated with the help of appropriate examples. The physical relevance of the proposed approach within gain-loss system scenarios, like two-coupled wave-guides, is discussed in detail.
We propose an analytical method for understanding the problem of long range electron transfer reaction in solution, modeled by a particle undergoing diffusive motion under the influence of many potentials which are involved (donor - bridge - acceptor) in the process. The coupling between these potentials are assumed to be represented by Dirac Delta functions. The diffusive motion in this paper is represented by the Smoluchowski equation. Our solution requires the knowledge of the Laplace transform of the Green's function for the motion in all the uncoupled potentials.
In our earlier papers we have proposed an analytically solvable model for the two state curve crossing problem which assumes the coupling to be a Dirac delta function. It is used to calculate the effect of curve crossing on electronic absorption spectrum and Resonance Raman excitation profile for the case of harmonic potentials. In this paper we have extended our model to deal with the curve crossing induced dissociation cases. Our method is used in this paper to calculate the effect of curve crossing induced dissociation on electronic absorption spectrum and Resonance Raman excitation profile…
The composite systems can be non-uniquely decomposed into parts (subsystems). Not all decompositions (structures) of a composite system are equally physically relevant. In this paper we answer on theoretical ground why it may be so. We consider a pair of mutually un-coupled modes in the phase space representation that are subjected to the independent quantum amplitude damping channels. By investigating asymptotic dynamics of the degrees of freedom, we find that the environment is responsible for the structures non-equivalence. Only one structure is distinguished by both locality of the environ…
It is shown that a family of analytically solvable pulses can be used to obtain high fidelity quantum phase gates with surprising robustness against imperfections in the system or pulse parameters. Phase gates are important because they can implement the necessary operations for universal quantum computing. They are particularly suited for systems such as self-assembled quantum dots, trapped ions, and defects in solids, as these are typically manipulated by the transient excitation of a state outside the qubit subspace.
Using a suitable Laguerre basis set that ensures a tridiagonal matrix representation of the reference Hamiltonian, we were able to evaluate in closed form the matrix representation of the associated Hamiltonian for few exactly solvable 2D potentials. This enabled us to treat analytically the full Hamiltonian and compute the associated bound states spectrum as the eigenvalues of the associated analytical matrix representing their Hamiltonians. Finally we compared our results satisfactorily with those obtained using the Gauss quadrature numerical integration approach.
We review the current status of one dimensional periodic potentials and also present several new results. It is shown that using the formalism of supersymmetric quantum mechanics, one can considerably enlarge the limited class of analytically solvable one-dimensional periodic potentials. Further, using the Landen transformations as well as cyclic identities for Jacobi elliptic functions discovered by us recently, it is shown that a linear superposition of Lamé (as well as associated Lamé) potentials are also analytically solvable. Finally, using anti-isospectral transformations, we also obtain…
We give a general method for finding an exact analytical solution for the two state curve crossing problem. The solution requires the knowledge of the Green's function for the motion on the uncoupled potential. We use the method to find the solution of the problem in the case of parabolic potentials coupled by Gaussian interaction. Our method is applied to this model system to calculate the effect of curve crossing on electronic absorption spectrum and resonance Raman excitation profile.
Based on earlier work on regular quantum graphs we show that a large class of scaling quantum graphs with arbitrary topology are explicitly analytically solvable. This is surprising since quantum graphs are excellent models of quantum chaos and quantum chaotic systems are not usually explicitly analytically solvable.
A simple one dimensional model is introduced describing a two particle "atom" approaching a point at which the interaction between the particles is lost. The wave function is obtained analytically and analyzed to display the entangled nature of the subsequent state.
We propose an analytical method for understanding the problem of multi-channel electron transfer reaction in solution, modeled by a particle undergoing diffusive motion under the influence of one donor and several acceptor potentials. The coupling between the donor potential and acceptor potentials are assumed to be represented by Dirac Delta functions. The diffusive motion in this paper is represented by the Smoluchowski equation. Our solution requires the knowledge of the Laplace transform of the Green's function for the motion in all the uncoupled potentials.
We consider quantum systems consisting of a linear chain of n harmonic oscillators coupled by a nearest neighbour interaction of the form $-q_r q_{r+1}$ ($q_r$ refers to the position of the $r$th oscillator). In principle, such systems are always numerically solvable and involve the eigenvalues of the interaction matrix. In this paper, we investigate when such a system is analytically solvable, i.e. when the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the interaction matrix have analytically closed expressions. This is the case when the interaction matrix coincides with the Jacobi matrix of a system of di…
Associated Lamé potentials $V(x)=a(a+1)m\sn^2(x,m)+b(b+1)m{\cn^2 (x,m)}/{\dn^2(x,m)}$ are used to construct complex, PT-invariant, periodic potentials using the anti-isospectral transformation $x \to ix+β$, where $β$ is any nonzero real number. These PT-invariant potentials are defined by $V^{PT}(x) \equiv -V(ix+β)$, and have a different real period from $V(x)$. They are analytically solvable potentials with a finite number of band gaps, when $a$ and $b$ are integers. Explicit expressions for the band edges of some of these potentials are given. For the special case of the complex potential $V…
We present a family of many-body models which are exactly solvable analytically. The models are an extended n-body interaction Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model which considers spin-flip terms which are associated with the interaction of an external classical field which coherently manipulates the state of the system in order to, for example, process quantum information. The models also describe a two-mode Bose-Einstein condensate with a Josephson-type interaction which includes n-particle elastic and inelastic collisions. One of the models corresponds to the canonical two-mode Bose-Einstein Hamitoni…
Analytical solutions to the time-dependent Schrodinger equation describing a driven two-level system are invaluable to many areas of physics, but they are also extremely rare. Here, we present a simple algorithm that generates an unlimited number of exact analytical solutions. We show that a general single-axis driving term and its corresponding evolution operator are determined by a single real function which is constrained only by a certain inequality and initial conditions. Any function satisfying these constraints yields an exact analytical solution. We demonstrate this method by presentin…
We derive a formula that simplifies the original asymptotic iteration method formulation to find the energy eigenvalues for the analytically solvable cases. We then show that there is a connection between the asymptotic iteration and the Nikiforov--Uvarov methods, which both solve the second order linear ordinary differential equations analytically.
I consider an exact model of atomic spontaneous dipole emission and classical dipole radiation in a finite photonic band-gap structure. The full 3D or 2D problem is reduced to a finite 1D model, and then this is solved for analytically using algebraic matrix transfer techniques. The results give insight to the electromagnetic emission process in periodic dielectrics, quantitative predictions for emission in 1D dielectric stacks, and qualitative formulas for the 2D and 3D problem.
The non-Hermitian models, which are symmetric under parity (P) and time-reversal (T) operators, are the cornerstone for the fabrication of new ultra-sensitive optoelectronic devices. However, providing the gain in such systems usually demands precise contorol of nonlinear processes, limiting their application. In this paper, to bypass this obstacle, we introduce a class of time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonians (not necessarily Floquet) that can describe a two-level system with temporally modulated on-site potential and couplings. We show that implementing an appropriate non-Unitary gauge t…
A Hamiltonian is said to be quasi-exactly solvable (QES) if some of the energy levels and the corresponding eigenfunctions can be calculated exactly and in closed form. An entirely new class of QES Hamiltonians having sextic polynomial potentials is constructed. These new Hamiltonians are different from the sextic QES Hamiltonians in the literature because their eigenfunctions obey PT-symmetric rather than Hermitian boundary conditions. These new Hamiltonians present a novel problem that is not encountered when the Hamiltonian is Hermitian: It is necessary to distinguish between the parametric…
We introduce and solve a two-band model of spinless fermions with $p_x$-wave pairing on a square lattice. The model reduces to the well-known extended Harper-Hofstadter model with half-flux quanta per plaquette and weakly coupled Kitaev chains in two respective limits. We show that its phase diagram contains a topologically nontrivial weak pairing phase as well as a trivial strong pairing phase as the ratio of the pairing amplitude and hopping is tuned. Introducing periodic driving to the model, we observe a cascade of Floquet phases with well defined quasienergy gaps and featuring chiral Majo…
We consider a particularly simple exactly solvable model for a qubit coupled to sequentially nested environments. The purpose is to exemplify the coherence conserving effect of a central system, that has been reported as a result of increasing the coupling between near and far environment. The paradigmatic example is the Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonian, which we introduce into a Kossakowski-Lindblad master equation using alternatively the lowering operator of the oscillator or its number operator as Lindblad operators. The harmonic oscillator is regarded as the near environment of the qubit, while…
For quasiexactly solvable (QES) potentials a certain number of wave functions and energy levels can be analytically calculated. The complexity of an explicit calculation of the energy levels grows with the dimension of the QES sector. For a class of such systems the generating function of the secular polynomials is also an initial condition solution of the Schrödinger equation. This generating function is used to obtain approximate energy levels in the limit of a large QES sector. This new method combines the WKB approximation with the saddle point approximation.
The evolution of a quantum system towards thermal equilibrium is usually studied by approximate methods, which have their limits of validity and should be checked against analytically solvable models. In this paper, we propose an analytically solvable model to investigate the energy transfer between a bosonic bath and a fermionic chain which are nonlinearly-coupled to each other. The bosonic bath consists of an infinite collection of non-interacting bosonic modes, while the fermionic chain is represented by a chain of interacting fermions with nearest-neighbor interactions. We compare behavior…
We generalize the textbook Kronig-Penney model to realistic conditions for a quantum-particle moving in the quasi-one-dimensional (quasi-1D) waveguide, where motion in the transverse direction is confined by a harmonic trapping potential. Along the waveguide, the particle scatters on an infinite array of regularized delta potentials. Our starting point is the Lippmann-Schwinger equation, which for quasi-1D geometry can be solved exactly, based on the analytical formula for the quasi-1D Green's function. We study the properties of eigen-energies as a function of particle quasi-momentum, which f…
We consider the class of dual-unitary quantum circuits in $1+1$ dimensions and introduce a notion of ``solvable'' matrix product states (MPSs), defined by a specific condition which allows us to tackle their time evolution analytically. We provide a classification of the latter, showing that they include certain MPSs of arbitrary bond dimension, and study analytically different aspects of their dynamics. For these initial states, we show that while any subsystem of size $\ell$ reaches infinite temperature after a time $t\propto \ell$, irrespective of the presence of conserved quantities, the l…
Using the formalism of supersymmetric quantum mechanics, we obtain a large number of new analytically solvable one-dimensional periodic potentials and study their properties. More specifically, the supersymmetric partners of the Lame potentials ma(a+1)sn^2(x,m) are computed for integer values a=1,2,3,.... For all cases (except a=1), we show that the partner potential is distinctly different from the original Lame potential, even though they both have the same energy band structure. We also derive and discuss the energy band edges of the associated Lame potentials pm sn^2(x,m)+qm cn^2(x,m)/ dn^…
We use analytic (current) density-potential maps of time-dependent (current) density functional theory (TD(C)DFT) to inverse engineer analytically solvable time-dependent quantum problems. In this approach the driving potential (the control signal) and the corresponding solution of the Schrödinger equation are parametrized analytically in terms of the basic TD(C)DFT observables. We describe the general reconstruction strategy and illustrate it with a number of explicit examples. First we consider the real space one-particle dynamics driven by a time-dependent electromagnetic field and recover,…
We obtain three new solvable, real, shape invariant potentials starting from the harmonic oscillator, Pöschl-Teller I and Pöschl-Teller II potentials on the half-axis and extending their domain to the full line, while taking special care to regularize the inverse square singularity at the origin. The regularization procedure gives rise to a delta-function behavior at the origin. Our new systems possess underlying non-linear potential algebras, which can also be used to determine their spectra analytically.
Localization properties of non-interacting quantum particles in one-dimensional incommensurate lattices are investigated with an exponential short-range hopping that is beyond the minimal nearest-neighbor tight-binding model. Energy dependent mobility edges are analytically predicted in this model and verified with numerical calculations. The results are then mapped to the continuum Schrodinger equation, and an approximate analytical expression for the localization phase diagram and the energy dependent mobility edges in the ground band obtained.
The supersymmetric intertwining relations with second order supercharges allow to investigate new two-dimensional model which is not amenable to standard separation of variables. The corresponding potential being the two-dimensional generalization of well known one-dimensional Pöschl-Teller model is proven to be exactly solvable for arbitrary integer value of parameter $p:$ all its bound state energy eigenvalues are found analytically, and the algorithm for analytical calculation of all wave functions is given. The shape invariance of the model and its integrability are of essential importance…
In the present paper, a systematic approach is presented for solution of two-dimensional massless Dirac equation with external electrostatic potential applied. This approach is based on the new - asymmetric - form of SUSY-like intertwining relations. It allows to build a wide variety of pairs of SUSY-partner external scalar potentials. If one of them is simple enough to be solvable, its partner is also solvable although it may have a non-trivial dependency on both coordinates. Physically, this kind of problems is related to the description of graphene and some other materials with external pot…
We address the real-time dynamics of lattice quantum spin models coupled to single or multiple Markovian dissipative reservoirs using the method of closed hierarchies of correlation functions. This approach allows us to solve a number of quantum spin models exactly in arbitrary dimensions, which is illustrated explicitly with two examples of driven-dissipative systems. We investigate their respective nonequilibrium steady states as well as the full real-time evolution on unprecedented system sizes. Characteristic time scales are derived analytically, which allows us to understand the nontrivia…
We identify a nontrivial 4-state Landau-Zener model for which transition probabilities between any pair of diabatic states can be determined analytically and exactly. The model describes an experimentally accessible system of two interacting qubits, such as a localized state in a Dirac material with both valley and spin degrees of freedom or a singly charged quantum dot (QD) molecule with spin orbit coupling. Application of the linearly time-dependent magnetic field induces a sequence of quantum level crossings with possibility of interference of different trajectories in a semiclassical pictu…
We consider M clusters of interacting particles, whose in-group interactions are arbitrary, and inter-group interactions are approximated by oscillator potentials. We show that there are masses and frequencies that decouple the in-group and inter-group degrees of freedom, which reduces the initial problem to M independent problems that describe each of the relative in-group systems. The dynamics of the M center-of-mass coordinates is described by the analytically solvable problem of M coupled harmonic oscillators. This paper derives and discusses these decoupling conditions. Furthermore, to il…
The dilation method is a practical way to experimentally simulate non-Hermitian, especially $\cal PT$-symmetric quantum systems. However, the time-dependent dilation problem cannot be explicitly solved in general. In this paper, we present a simple yet non-trivial exactly solvable dilation problem with two dimensional time-dependent $\cal PT$-symmetric Hamiltonian. Our system is initially set in the unbroken $\cal PT$-symmetric phase and later goes across the so-called exceptional point and enters the broken $\cal PT$-symmetric phase. For this system, the dilated Hamiltonian and the evolution …
The concept of quantum integrability has been introduced recently for quantum systems with explicitly time-dependent Hamiltonians. Within the multistate Landau-Zener (MLZ) theory, however, there has been a successful alternative approach to identify and solve complex time-dependent models. Here we compare both methods by applying them to a new class of exactly solvable MLZ models. This class contains systems with an arbitrary number $N\ge 4$ of interacting states and shows a quickly growing with $N$ number of exact adiabatic energy crossing points, which appear at different moments of time. At…
The procedure proposed recently by J.Bougie, A.Gangopadhyaya and J.V.Mallow to study the general form of shape invariant potentials in one-dimensional Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics (SUSY QM) is generalized to the case of Higher Order SUSY QM with supercharges of second order in momentum. A new shape invariant potential is constructed by this method. It is singular at the origin, it grows at infinity, and its spectrum depends on the choice of connection conditions in the singular point. The corresponding Schrödinger equation is solved explicitly: the wave functions are constructed analytical…
We made use of supersymmetric (SUSY) quantum mechanics to find a condition under which the Stark effect problem for a polar and polarizable closed-shell diatomic molecule subject to collinear electrostatic and nonresonant radiative fields becomes exactly solvable. The condition, $Δω= \frac{ω^2}{4 (m+1)^2}$, connects values of the dimensionless parameters $ω$ and $Δω$ that characterize the strengths of the permanent and induced dipole interactions of the molecule with the respective fields. The exact solutions are obtained for the $|\tilde{J}=m,m;ω,Δω>$ family of "stretched" states. The field-f…
Supersymmetrical intertwining relations of second order in derivatives allow to construct a two-dimensional quantum model with complex potential, for which {\it all} energy levels and bound state wave functions are obtained analytically. This model {\it is not amenable} to separation of variables, and it can be considered as a specific complexified version of generalized two-dimensional Morse model with additional $\sinh^{-2}$ term. The energy spectrum of the model is proved to be purely real. To our knowledge, this is a rather rare example of a nontrivial exactly solvable model in two dimensi…
We study a quantum model with non-isotropic two-dimensional oscillator potential but with additional quadratic interaction $x_1x_2$ with imaginary coupling constant. It is shown, that for a specific connection between coupling constant and oscillator frequences, the model {\it is not} amenable to a conventional separation of variables. The property of shape invariance allows to find analytically all eigenfunctions and the spectrum is found to be equidistant. It is shown that the Hamiltonian is non-diagonalizable, and the resolution of the identity must include also the corresponding associated…

The solutions, in terms of orthogonal polynomials, of Dirac equation with analytically solvable potentials are investigated within a novel formalism by transforming the relativistic equation into a Schrodinger like one. Earlier results are discussed in a unified framework and certain solutions of a large class of potentials are given.
