Recent gamma-ray and radio observations provide stringent constraints for annihilating dark matter. The current $2σ$ lower limits of dark matter mass can be constrained to $\sim 100$ GeV for thermal relic annihilation cross section. In this article, we use the radio continuum spectral data of a nearby galaxy NGC4214 and differentiate the thermal contribution, dark matter annihilation contribution and cosmic-ray contribution. We can get more stringent constraints of dark matter mass and annihilation cross sections. The $5σ$ lower limits of thermal relic annihilating dark matter mass obtained are 300 GeV, 220 GeV, 220 GeV, 500 GeV and 600 GeV for $e^+e^-$, $μ^+μ^-$, $τ^+τ^-$, $W^+W^-$ and $b\bar{b}$ channels respectively. These limits challenge the dark matter interpretation of the gamma-ray, positron and antiproton excess in our Milky Way.
Recent radio observations have obtained stringent constraints for annihilating dark matter. In this article, we use the radio continuum spectral data of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) to analyze the dark matter annihilation signals. We have discovered a slightly positive signal of dark matter annihilation with a $1.5σ$ statistical significance. The overall best-fit dark matter mass is $m_{\rm DM} \approx 90$ GeV, annihilating via $b\bar{b}$ channel. We have also constrained the $3σ$ lower limits of dark matter mass with the standard thermal dark matter annihilation cross section for the $e^+…
In the past decade, the properties of annihilating dark matter models were examined by various kinds of data, including the data of gamma rays, radio waves, X-ray, positrons, electrons, antiprotons and neutrinos. In particular, most of the studies focus on the data of our Galaxy, nearby galaxies (e.g. M31 galaxy) or nearby galaxy clusters (e.g. Fornax cluster). In this article, we examine the archival radio continuum spectral data of a relatively high-redshift galaxy cluster (A697 cluster) to constrain the properties of annihilating dark matter. We find that leptophilic annihilation channels (…
Recent gamma-ray and anti-proton analyses suggest that dark matter with mass $m=48-67$ GeV annihilating via $b\bar{b}$ channel can explain the Galactic center GeV gamma-ray excess and the anti-proton excess as measured by AMS-02 simultaneously. In this article, by differentiating the contributions of dark matter annihilation and normal diffuse cosmic rays, we show that dark matter with mass $m=40-50$ GeV annihilating via $b\bar{b}$ channel with the thermal relic annihilation cross section can best explain the radio continuum spectrum of the central radio halo of the Ophiuchus cluster. This mas…
In the past decade, some telescopes (e.g. Fermi-LAT, AMS and DAMPE) were launched to detect the signals of annihilating dark matter in our Galaxy. Although some excess of gamma rays, anti-protons and electrons/positrons have been reported and claimed as dark matter signals, the uncertainties of Galactic pulsars' contributions are still too large to confirm the claims. In this letter, we report a possible radio signal of annihilating dark matter manifested in the archival radio continuum spectral data of the Abell 4038 cluster. By assuming the thermal annihilation cross section and comparing th…
Celestial objects such as stars and planets might be able to capture a large amount of dark matter particles through dark matter-nucleon scattering. Many previous studies have considered different celestial objects such as the Sun and the Earth as natural dark matter detectors and obtained some stringent bounds of the dark matter-nucleon scattering cross section. In this study, we use the $\sim 10$ MeV electron neutrino flux limits obtained by the Super-Kamiokande experiment and consider the Earth as a large natural dark matter detector to constrain the dark matter-nucleon scattering cross sec…
Dark matter (DM) particles captured by the Sun can produce high energy electrons outside the Sun through annihilating into meta-stable mediators. The corresponding cosmic-ray electron signals observed by the space-based experiments will be time dependent due to the orbital motion of the space-based detectors. The shape of this time dependence is predictable given the orbital information of the detectors. Since the high-energy CR electron (with energy E>100 GeV) fluxes are expected to be constant in time, non-observation of such time variation can be used to place upper limits on the DM annihil…
We present a study of far and near-ultraviolet emission from the accretion disk in a powerful Seyfert 1 galaxy IC4329A using observations performed with the Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (UVIT) onboard AstroSat. These data provide the highest spatial resolution and deepest images of IC4329A in the far and near UV bands acquired to date. The excellent spatial resolution of the UVIT data has allowed us to accurately separate the extended emission from the host galaxy and the AGN emission in the far and near UV bands. We derive the intrinsic AGN flux after correcting for the Galactic and internal…
Dark Matter Annihilation in The Galactic Center As Seen by the Fermi Gamma Ray Space Telescope
We present a search for sterile neutrino dark matter decay signals in the Milky Way's dark matter halo by considering the entirety of the Swift-XRT data archive. After filtering the raw archive, we analyze a $\sim$77 Ms data set containing the full field of view, as well as a $\sim$41 Ms data set with point-sources excised using the Swift-XRT Point Source catalog. We report non-detections of emission lines across the 3--6 keV continuum in both data sets, including at and around 3.5 keV. The point-sources excised data set is found to have higher sensitivity to faint dark matter decay signals du…
The iron line and the continuum-fitting methods are currently the two leading techniques for measuring black hole spins with electromagnetic radiation. They can be naturally extended for probing the spacetime geometry around black holes and testing general relativity in the strong field regime. In the past couple of years, there has been significant work to use the iron line method to test the nature of black holes. In this Letter, we use the continuum-fitting method and we show its capability of constraining the spacetime geometry around black holes by analyzing 17 RXTE data of the X-ray bina…
The globular cluster Omega Centauri is the most massive and luminous cluster in the Galaxy. The $γ$-ray source FL8Y J1326.7$-$4729 is coincident with the core of the cluster, leading to speculation that hitherto unknown radio pulsars or annihilating dark matter may be present in the cluster core. Here we report on the discovery of five millisecond pulsars in Omega Centauri following observations with the Parkes radio telescope. Four of these pulsars are isolated with spin periods of 4.1, 4.2, 4.6 and 6.8 ms. The fifth has a spin period of 4.8 ms and is in an eclipsing binary system with an orb…
TDEs have been observed in the optical and UV for more than a decade but the underlying emission mechanism still remains a puzzle. It has been suggested that viewing angle effects could potentially explain their large photometric and spectroscopic diversity. Polarization is indeed sensitive to the viewing angle and the first polarimetry studies of TDEs are now available, calling for a theoretical interpretation. In this study, we model the continuum polarization levels of TDEs using the radiative transfer code POSSIS and the collision-induced outflow (CIO) TDE emission scenario where unbound s…
