The primitive equations for geophysical flows are studied under the influence of {\em stochastic wind driven boundary conditions} modeled by a cylindrical Wiener process. We adapt an approach by Da Prato and Zabczyk for stochastic boundary value problems to define a notion of solutions. Then a rigorous treatment of these stochastic boundary conditions, which combines stochastic and deterministic methods, yields that these equations admit a unique, local pathwise solution within the anisotropic $L^q_t$-$H^{-1,p}_zL^p_{xy}$-setting. This solution is constructed in critical spaces.
We establish the existence and uniqueness of pathwise strong solutions to the stochastic 3D primitive equations with only horizontal viscosity and diffusivity driven by transport noise on a cylindrical domain $M=(-h,0) \times G$, $G\subset \mathbb{R}^2$ bounded and smooth, with the physical Dirichlet boundary conditions on the lateral part of the boundary. Compared to the deterministic case where the uniqueness of $z$-weak solutions holds in $L^2$, more regular initial data are necessary to establish uniqueness in the anisotropic space $H^1_z L^2_{xy}$ so that the existence of local pathwise s…
This paper concerns the convergence of an iterative scheme for 2D stochastic primitive equations on a bounded domain. The stochastic system is split into two equations: a deterministic 2D primitive equations with random initial value and a linear stochastic parabolic equation, which are both simpler for numerical computations. An estimate of approximation error is given, which implies that the strong speed rate of the convergence in probability is almost $\frac{1}{2}$.
In this paper, we establish a small time large deviation principle for the strong solution of 3D stochastic primitive equations driven by multiplicative noise. Both the small noise and the small, but highly nonlinear, unbounded nonlinear terms should be taken into consideration.
In this article, we study the stability of solutions to 3D stochastic primitive equations driven by fractional noise. Since the fractional Brownian motion is essentially different from Brownian motion, lots of stochastic analysis tools are not available to study the exponential stability for the stochastic systems. Therefore, apart from the standard method for the case of Brownian motion, we develop a new method to show that 3D stochastic primitive equations driven by fractional noise converge almost surely exponentially to the stationary solutions. This method may be applied to other stochast…
We study the stochastic effect on the three-dimensional inviscid primitive equations (PEs, also called the hydrostatic Euler equations). Specifically, we consider a larger class of noises than multiplicative noises, and work in the analytic function space due to the ill-posedness in Sobolev spaces of PEs without horizontal viscosity. Under proper conditions, we prove the local existence of martingale solutions and pathwise uniqueness. By adding vertical viscosity, i.e., considering the hydrostatic Navier-Stokes equations, we can relax the restriction on initial conditions to be only analytic i…
In this paper, we prove that weak solutions of 3D stochastic primitive equations have exponential mixing property if the noise is sufficiently smooth and non-degenerate. With the help of uniqueness of strong solution of 3D stochastic primitive equations, we obtain that all weak solutions which are limitations of Galerkin approximations share the same invariant measure. In particular, the invariant measure of strong solution is unique. The coupling method plays a key role.
We establish the large deviations principle (LDP) and the moderate deviations principle (MDP) and an almost sure version of the central limit theorem (CLT) for the stochastic 3D viscous primitive equations driven by a multiplicative white noise allowing dependence on spatial gradient of solutions with initial data in $H^2$. The LDP is established using the weak convergence approach of Budjihara and Dupuis and uniform version of the stochastic Gronwall lemma. The result corrects a minor technical issue in Z. Dong, J. Zhai, and R. Zhang: Large deviations principles for 3D stochastic primitive eq…
In this paper we consider the stochastic primitive equation for geophysical flows subject to transport noise and turbulent pressure. Admitting very rough noise terms, the global existence and uniqueness of solutions to this stochastic partial differential equation are proven using stochastic maximal $L^2$-regularity, the theory of critical spaces for stochastic evolution equations, and global a priori bounds. Compared to other results in this direction, we do not need any smallness assumption on the transport noise which acts directly on the velocity field and we also allow rougher noise terms…
We study the stochastic 3D primitive equations of the atmospheric mechanics. We consider them under a bounded and non-degenerate noise, which is statistically periodic in time with period $1$. In such a case we prove that the associated integer-time Markov chain is mixing, which means that there exists a unique stationary measure to which converge the laws all trajectories of this Markov chain.
This paper is concerned with the existence of invariant measure for 3D stochastic primitive equations driven by linear multiplicative noise under non-periodic boundary conditions. The common method is to apply Sobolev imbedding theorem to proving the tightness of the distribution of the solution. However, this method fails because of the non-linearity and non-periodic boundary conditions of the stochastic primitive equations. To overcome the difficulties, we show the existence of random attractor by proving the compact property and the regularity of the solution operator. Then we show the exis…
We introduce a Gaussian measure formally preserved by the 2-dimensional Primitive Equations driven by additive Gaussian noise. Under such measure the stochastic equations under consideration are singular: we propose a solution theory based on the techniques developed by Gubinelli and Jara in \cite{GuJa13} for a hyperviscous version of the equations.
Statistical inference for a linear stochastic hyperbolic equation with two unknown parameters is studied. Based on observation of coordinates of the solution or their linear combination, minimum contrast estimators are introduced. Strong consistency and asymptotic normality is proved. The results are applied to stochastic wave equation perturbed by Brownian noise and they are illustrated by a numerical simulation.
The partition function of the directed polymer model on Z^{2+1} undergoes a phase transition in a suitable continuum and weak disorder limit. In this paper, we focus on a window around the critical point. Exploiting local renewal theorems, we compute the limiting third moment of the space-averaged partition function, showing that it is uniformly bounded. This implies that the rescaled partition functions, viewed as a generalized random field on R^2, have non-trivial subsequential limits, and each such limit has the same explicit covariance structure. We obtain analogous results for the stochas…
Real-time power dispatch (RTD) can coordinate wind farms, automatic generation control (AGC) units and non AGC units. In RTD, the probable wind power forecast errors (WPFE) should be appropriately formulated to ensure system security with high probability and minimize operational cost. Previous studies and our onsite tests show that Cauchy distribution (CD) effectively fits the leptokurtic feature of small timescale WPFE distributions. In this paper, we propose a chance-constrained real time dispatch (CCRTD) model with the WPFE represented by CD. Since the CD is stable and has promising mathem…
