The reduced density matrix of a given subsystem, denoted by $ρ_A$, contains the information on subregion duality in a holographic theory. We may extract the information by using the spectrum (eigenvalue) of the matrix, called entanglement spectrum in this paper. We evaluate the density of eigenstates, one-point and two-point correlation functions in the microcanonical ensemble state $ρ_{A,m}$ associated with an eigenvalue $λ$ for some examples, including a single interval and two intervals in vacuum state of 2D CFTs. We find there exists a microcanonical ensemble state with $λ_0$ which can be seen as an approximate state of $ρ_A$. The parameter $λ_0$ is obtained in the two examples. For a general geometric state, the approximate microcanonical ensemble state also exists. The parameter $λ_0$ is associated with the entanglement entropy of $A$ and Rényi entropy in the limit $n\to \infty$. As an application of the above conclusion we reform the equality case of the Araki-Lieb inequality of the entanglement entropies of two intervals in vacuum state of 2D CFTs as conditions of Holevo information. We show the constraints on the eigenstates. Finally, we point out some unsolved problems and their significance on understanding the geometric states.
Using the natural connection equivalent to the SU(2) Yang-Mills instanton on the quaternionic Hopf fibration of $S^7$ over the quaternionic projective space ${\bf HP}^1\simeq S^4$ with an $SU(2)\simeq S^3$ fiber the geometry of entanglement for two qubits is investigated. The relationship between base and fiber i.e. the twisting of the bundle corresponds to the entanglement of the qubits. The measure of entanglement can be related to the length of the shortest geodesic with respect to the Mannoury-Fubini-Study metric on ${\bf HP}^1$ between an arbitrary entangled state, and the separable state…
Here we show the connection between topological order and the geometric entanglement, as measured by the logarithm of the overlap between a given state and its closest product state of blocks, for the topological universality class of the toric code model. As happens for the entanglement entropy, we find that for large block sizes the geometric entanglement is, up to possible subleading corrections, the sum of two contributions: a non-universal bulk contribution obeying a boundary law times the number of blocks, and a universal contribution quantifying the underlying pattern of long-range enta…
We continue the study of entanglement entropy for a QFT through a perturbative expansion of the path integral definition of the reduced density matrix. The universal entanglement entropy for a CFT perturbed by a relevant operator is calculated to second order in the coupling. We also explore the geometric dependence of entanglement entropy for a deformed planar entangling surface, finding surprises at second order.
The bulk-edge correspondence for topological quantum liquids states that the spectrum of the reduced density matrix of a large subregion reproduces the thermal spectrum of a physical edge. This correspondence suggests an intricate connection between ground state entanglement and physical edge dynamics. We give a simple geometric proof of the bulk-edge correspondence for a wide variety of physical systems. Our unified proof relies on geometric techniques available in Lorentz invariant and conformally invariant quantum field theories. These methods were originally developed in part to understand…
Under successive Renormalization Group transformations applied to a quantum state $\ketΨ$ of finite correlation length $ξ$, there is typically a loss of entanglement after each iteration. How good it is then to replace $\ketΨ$ by a product state at every step of the process? In this paper we give a quantitative answer to this question by providing first analytical and general proofs that, for translationally invariant quantum systems in one spatial dimension, the global geometric entanglement per region of size $L \gg ξ$ diverges with the correlation length as $(c/12) \log{(ξ/ε)}$ close to a q…
Starting from recent results on the geometric formulation of quantum mechanics, we propose a new information geometric characterization of entanglement for spin network states in the context of quantum gravity. For the simple case of a single-link fixed graph (Wilson line), we detail the construction of a Riemannian Fisher metric tensor and a symplectic structure on the graph Hilbert space, showing how these encode the whole information about separability and entanglement. In particular, the Fisher metric defines an entanglement monotone which provides a notion of distance among states in the …
The entanglement entropy (EE) can measure the entanglement between a spatial subregion and its complement, which provides key information about quantum states. Here, rather than focusing on specific regions, we study how the entanglement entropy changes with small deformations of the entangling surface. This leads to the notion of entanglement susceptibilities. These relate the variation of the EE to the geometric variation of the subregion. We determine the form of the leading entanglement susceptibilities for a large class of scale invariant states, such as groundstates of conformal field th…
The entanglement spectrum, i.e., the full distribution of Schmidt eigenvalues of the reduced density matrix, contains more information than the conventional entanglement entropy and has been studied recently in several many-particle systems. We compute the disorder-averaged entanglement spectrum, in the form of the disorder-averaged moments of the reduced density matrix, for a contiguous block of many spins at the random-singlet quantum critical point in one dimension. The result compares well in the scaling limit with numerical studies on the random XX model and is also expected to describe t…
We show that for a system of two entangled particles, there is a dual description to the particle equations in terms of classical theory of conformally stretched spacetime. We also connect these entangled particle equations with Finsler geometry. We show that this duality translates strongly coupled quantum equations in the pilot-wave limit to weakly coupled geometric equations.
We introduce a class of generalized geometric measures of entanglement. For pure quantum states of $N$ elementary subsystems, they are defined as the distances from the sets of $K$-separable states ($K=2,...,N$). The entire set of generalized geometric measures provides a quantification and hierarchical ordering of the different bipartite and multipartite components of the global geometric entanglement, and allows to discriminate among the different contributions. The extended measures are applied to the study of entanglement in different classes of $N$-qubit pure states. These classes include…
We study the real-space entanglement spectrum for fractional quantum Hall systems, which maintains locality along the spatial cut, and provide evidence that it possesses a scaling property. We also consider the closely-related particle entanglement spectrum, and carry out the Schmidt decomposition of the Laughlin state analytically at large size.
We compute the entanglement negativity for various pure and mixed state configurations in a bath coupled to an evaporating two dimensional non-extremal Jackiw-Teitelboim (JT) black hole obtained through the partial dimensional reduction of a three dimensional BTZ black hole. Our results exactly reproduce the analogues of the Page curve for the entanglement negativity which were recently determined through diagrammatic technique developed in the context of random matrix theory.
We work in the real Hilbert space H_s of hermitian Hilbert-Schmid operators and show that the entanglement witness which shows the maximal violation of a generalized Bell inequality (GBI) is a tangent functional to the convex set S subset H_s of separable states. This violation equals the euclidean distance in H_s of the entangled state to S and thus entanglement, GBI and tangent functional are only different aspects of the same geometric picture. This is explicitly illustrated in the example of two spins, where also a comparison with familiar Bell inequalities is presented.
The holographic entanglement entropy (HEE) of the minimal geometrical deformation (MGD) procedure and extensions (EMGD), is scrutinized within the membrane paradigm of AdS/CFT. The HEE corrections of the Schwarzschild and Reissner--Nordström solutions, due to a finite fluid brane tension, are then derived and discussed in the context of the MGD and the EMGD.
We derive the distribution of eigenvalues of the reduced density matrix of a block of length l in a one-dimensional system in the scaling regime. The resulting "entanglement spectrum" is described by a universal scaling function depending only on the central charge of the underlying conformal field theory. This prediction is checked against exact results for the XX chain. We also show how the entanglement gap closes when l is large.
We investigate the effect of a global degeneracy in the distribution of entanglement spectrum in conformal field theories in one spatial dimension. We relate the recently found universal expression for the entanglement hamiltonian to the distribution of the entanglement spectrum. The main tool to establish this connection is the Cardy formula. It turns out that the Affleck-Ludwig non-integer degeneracy, appearing because of the boundary conditions induced at the entangling surface, can be directly read from the entanglement spectrum distribution. We also clarify the effect of the non-integer d…
We calculate the thermal correction to the entanglement spectrum for separating a single interval of two dimensional conformal field theories. Our derivation is a direct extension of the thermal correction to the Rényi entropy. Within a low-temperature expansion by including only the first excited state in the thermal density matrix, we approach analytical results of the thermal correction to the entanglement spectrum at both of the small and large interval limit. We find the temperature correction reduces the large eigenvalues in the entanglement spectrum while increases the small eigenvalues…
We consider the reflected entropy and the associated entanglement spectrum for free fermions reduced to two intervals in 1+1 dimensions. Working directly in the continuum theory the reflected entropy can be extracted from the spectrum of a singular integral equation whose kernel is determined by the known free fermion modular evolved correlation function. We find the spectrum numerically and analytically in certain limits. For intervals that almost touch the reflected entanglement spectrum approaches the spectrum of the thermal density matrix. This suggests that the reflected entanglement spec…
We examine the snapshot entropy of general fractal images defined by their singular values. Remarkably, the singular values for a large class of fractals are in exact correspondence with the entanglement spectrum of free fermions in one dimension. These fermions allow for a holographic interpretation of the logarithmic scaling of the snapshot entropy, which is in agreement with the Calabrese-Cardy formula. However, the coarse-grained entropy exhibits a linear scaling due to the degeneracy of the spectrum, in contrast with the logarithmic scaling behavior in one-dimensional quantum near-critica…
We show that, in discrete models of quantum gravity, emergent geometric space can be viewed as the entanglement pattern in a mixed quantum state of the "universe", characterized by a universal topological network entanglement. As a concrete example we analyze the recently proposed model in which geometry emerges due to the condensation of 4-cycles in random regular bipartite graphs, driven by the combinatorial Ollivier-Ricci curvature. Using this model we show that the emergence of geometric order decreases the entanglement entropy of random configurations. The lowest geometric entanglement en…
We investigate the effect of entanglement between two causally separated open charts in de Sitter space on the spectrum of vacuum fluctuations. We consider a free massive scalar field, and construct the reduced density matrix by tracing out the vacuum state for one of the open charts, as recently derived by Maldacena and Pimentel. We formulate the mean-square vacuum fluctuations by using the reduced density matrix and show that the scale invariant spectrum of massless scalar field is realized on small scales. On the other hand, we find that the quantum entanglement affects the shape of the spe…
