We consider a Poisson equation in $\mathbb R^d$ for the elliptic operator corresponding to an ergodic diffusion process. Optimal regularity and smoothness with respect to the parameter are obtained under mild conditions on the coefficients. The result is then applied to establish a general diffusion approximation for fully coupled multi-time-scales stochastic differential equations with only Hölder continuous coefficients. Four different averaged equations as well as rates of convergence are obtained. Moreover, the convergence is shown to rely only on the regularities of the coefficients with respect to the slow variable, and does not depend on their regularities with respect to the fast component.
We prove pathwise uniqueness and strong existence of solutions for stochastic reaction-diffusion systems with locally Lipschitz continuous reaction term of polynomial growth and Hölder continuous multiplicative noise. Under additional assumptions on the coefficients, we also prove positivity of the solutions.
By using a split argument due to [1], the transportation cost inequality is established on the free path space of Markov processes. The general result is applied to stochastic reaction diffusion equations with random initial values.
In this paper we prove the stochastic homeomorphism flow property and the strong Feller property for stochastic differential equations with sigular time dependent drifts and Sobolev diffusion coefficients. Moreover, the local well posedness under local assumptions are also obtained. In particular, we extend Krylov and Röckner's results in \cite{Kr-Ro} to the case of non-constant diffusion coefficients.
We prove that an averaging principle holds for a general class of stochastic reaction-diffusion systems, having unbounded multiplicative noise, in any space dimension. We show that the classical Khasminskii approach for systems with a finite number of degrees of freedom can be extended to infinite dimensional systems.
We provide necessary and sufficient first order geometric conditions for the stochastic invariance of a closed subset of R^d with respect to a jump-diffusion under weak regularity assumptions on the coefficients. Our main result extends the recent characterization proved in Abi Jaber, Bouchard and Illand (2016) to jump-diffusions. We also derive an equivalent formulation in the semimartingale framework.
We consider a reaction-diffusion equation on a network subjected to dynamic boundary conditions, with time delayed behaviour, also allowing for multiplicative Gaussian noise perturbations. Exploiting semigroup theory, we rewrite the aforementioned stochastic problem as an abstract stochastic partial differential equation taking values in a suitable product Hilbert space, for which we prove the existence and uniqueness of a mild solution. Eventually, a stochastic optimal control application is studied.
The connection between forward backward doubly stochastic differential equations and the optimal filtering problem is established without using the Zakai's equation. The solutions of forward backward doubly stochastic differential equations are expressed in terms of conditional law of a partially observed Markov diffusion process. It then follows that the adjoint time-inverse forward backward doubly stochastic differential equations governs the evolution of the unnormalized filtering density in the optimal filtering problem.
We establish the existence of solutions to a class of non-linear stochastic differential equation of reaction-diffusion type in an infinite-dimensional space, with diffusion corresponding to a given transition kernel. The solution obtained is the scaling limit of a sequence of interacting particle systems, and satisfies the martingale problem corresponding to the target differential equation.
In this paper, we established a quadratic transportation cost inequality for solutions of stochastic reaction diffusion equations driven by multiplicative space-time white noise based on a new inequality we proved for the moments (under the uniform norm) of the stochastic convolution with respect to space-time white noise, which is of independent interest. The solutions of such stochastic partial differential equations are typically not semimartingales on the state space.
We consider a reaction--diffusion equation perturbed by noise (not necessarily white). We prove an integral inequality for the invariant measure $ν$ of a stochastic reaction--diffusion equation. Then we discuss some consequences as an integration by parts formula which extends to $ν$ a basic identity of the Malliavin Calculus. Finally, we prove the existence of a surface measure for a ball and a half-space of $H$.
We define fully coupled forward-backward stochastic differential equations on spaces related to continuous time, finite state Markov Chains. Existence and uniqueness results of the fully coupled forward-backward stochastic differential equations on Markov Chains are obtained.
In this paper we study a stochastic differential equation driven by a fractional Brownian motion with a discontinuous coefficient. We also give an approximation to the solution of the equation. This is a first step to define a fractional version of the skew Brownian motion.
In this paper, we study the diffusion approximation for singularly perturbed stochastic reaction-diffusion equation with a fast oscillating term. The asymptotic limit for the original system is obtained, where an extra Gaussian term appears. Such a term is explicitly given in terms of the solution of Poisson equation in Hilbert space. Moreover, we also obtain the optimal rate of convergence, and the convergence rate is shown not to depend on the regularity of the coefficients of the original system with respect to the fast variable, which coincides with the intuition since the fast component h…
We study one-dimensional stochastic differential equations of form $dX_t = σ(X_t)dY_t$, where $Y$ is a suitable Hölder continuous driver such as the fractional Brownian motion $B^H$ with $H>\frac12$. The innovative aspect of the present paper lies in the assumptions on diffusion coefficients $σ$ for which we assume very mild conditions. In particular, we allow $σ$ to have discontinuities, and as such our results can be applied to study equations with discontinuous diffusions.
We present the stochastic solution to a generalized fractional partial differential equation involving a regularized operator related to the so-called Prabhakar operator and admitting, amongst others, as specific cases the fractional diffusion equation and the fractional telegraph equation. The stochastic solution is expressed as a Lévy process time-changed with the inverse process to a linear combination of (possibly subordinated) independent stable subordinators of different indices. Furthermore a related SDE is derived and discussed.
For stochastic reaction-diffusion equations with Lévy noises and non-Lipschitz reaction terms, we prove that $W_1H$ transportation cost inequalities hold for their invariant probability measures and for their process-level laws on the path space with respect to the $L^1$-metric. The proofs are based on the Galerkin approximations.
We consider a transport-diffusion equation with Lévy noises and Hölder continuous coefficients. By using the heat kernel estimates, we derive the Schauder estimates for the mild solutions. Moreover, when the transport term vanishes and $p=2$, we show that the Hölder index in space variable is optimal.
Differentiability of semigroups is useful for many applications. Here we focus on stochastic differential equations whose diffusion coefficient is the square root of a differentiable function but not differentiable itself. For every $m\in\{0,1,2\}$ we establish an upper bound for a $C^m$-norm of the semigroup of such a diffusion in terms of the $C^m$-norms of the drift coefficient and of the squared diffusion coefficient. The constants in our upper bound are often dimension-independent. Our estimates are thus suitable for analyzing certain high-dimensional and infinite-dimensional degenerate s…
In this paper we are concerned with the stochastic partial differential equations of super-fast diffusion processes describing behavior of plasma dX(t)-Δln(X(t)+1)dt=\surd(Q)dW(t), in (0,T)\timesO, where O is a bounded open subset of R. We define a strong solution adequate to the properties of the natural logarithm and we prove the corresponding existence and uniqueness result.
Existence and uniqueness results of fully coupled forward stochastic differential equations without drifts and backward stochastic differential equations in a degenerate case are obtained for an arbitrarily large time duration.
We consider the averaging principle for stochastic reaction-diffusion equations. Under some assumptions providing existence of a unique invariant measure of the fast motion with the frozen slow component, we calculate limiting slow motion. The study of solvability of Kolmogorov equations in Hilbert spaces and the analysis of regularity properties of solutions, allow to generalize the classical approach to finite-dimensional problems of this type in the case of SPDE's.
A multiscale analysis of 1D stochastic bistable reaction-diffusion equations with additive noise is carried out w.r.t. travelling waves within the variational approach to stochastic partial differential equations. It is shown with explicit error estimates on appropriate function spaces that up to lower order w.r.t. the noise amplitude, the solution can be decomposed into the orthogonal sum of a travelling wave moving with random speed and into Gaussian fluctuations. A stochastic differential equation describing the speed of the travelling wave and a linear stochastic partial differential equat…
This paper is concerned with the partial information optimal control problem of wa controlled forward-backward stochastic differential equation of jump diffusion with correlated noises between the system and the observation. For this type of partial information optimal control problem, Necessary and sufficient optimality conditions, in the form of Pontryagin maximum principle, for the partial information optimal control are established using a unified way. Moreover, our admissible control process $u(\cdot)$ satisfies the following integrable condition condition: \begin{equation*} \label{eq:1.1…
We present a generalization of Krylov-Rozovskii's result on the existence and uniqueness of solutions to monotone stochastic differential equations. As an application, the stochastic generalized porous media and fast diffusion equations are studied for $σ$-finite reference measures, where the drift term is given by a negative definite operator acting on a time-dependent function, which belongs to a large class of functions comparable with the so-called $N$-functions in the theory of Orlicz spaces.
Large deviations principles characterize the exponential decay rates of the probabilities of rare events. Cerrai and Rockner [13] proved that systems of stochastic reaction-diffusion equations satisfy a large deviations principle that is uniform over bounded sets of initial data. This paper proves uniform large deviations results for a system of stochastic reaction--diffusion equations in a more general setting than Cerrai and Rockner. Furthermore, this paper identifies two common situations where the large deviations principle is uniform over unbounded sets of initial data, enabling the chara…
We consider a reaction--diffusion equation perturbed by noise (not necessarily white). We prove existence of the Fomin derivative of the corresponding transition semigroup $P_t$. The main tool is a new estimate for $P_tDφ$ in terms of $\|φ\|_{L^2(H,ν)}$, where $ν$ is the invariant measure of $P_t$.
In this paper we present stochastic foundations of fractional dynamics driven by fractional material derivative of distributed order-type. Before stating our main result we present the stochastic scenario which underlies the dynamics given by fractional material derivative. Then we introduce a Levy walk process of distributed-order type to establish our main result, which is the scaling limit of the considered process. It appears that the probability density function of the scaling limit process fulfills, in a weak sense, the fractional diffusion equation with material derivative of distribute…
We establish the existence of weak martingale solutions to a class of second order parabolic stochastic partial differential equations. The equations are driven by multiplicative jump type noise, with a non-Lipschitz multiplicative functional. The drift in the equations contains a dissipative nonlinearity of polynomial growth.
By using a change of scale and space, we study a class of stochastic differential equations (SDEs) whose solutions are drift--perturbed and exhibit behaviour analogous to standard Brownian motion including to the Law of the Iterated Logarithm (LIL). Sufficient conditions ensuring that these processes obey the LIL are given.
We study a random process with reinforcement, which evolves following the dynamics of a given diffusion process in a bounded domain and is resampled according to its occupation measure when it reaches the boundary. We show that its occupation measure converges to the unique quasi-stationary distribution of the diffusion process absorbed at the boundary of the domain. Our proofs use recent results in the theory of quasi-stationary distributions and stochastic approximation techniques.
In this article, we propose a wellposedness theory for a class of second order backward doubly stochastic differential equation (2BDSDE). We prove existence and uniqueness of the solution under a Lipschitz type assumption on the generator, and we investigate the links between our 2BDSDEs and a class of parabolic fully nonLinear Stochastic PDes. Precisely, we show that the Markovian solution of 2BDSDEs provide a probabilistic interpretation of the classical and stochastic viscosity solution of fully nonlinear SPDEs.
The Cahn-Hilliard/Allen-Cahn equation with noise is a simplified mean field model of stochastic microscopic dynamics associated with adsorption and desorption-spin flip mechanisms in the context of surface processes. For such an equation we consider a multiplicative space-time white noise with diffusion coefficient of sub-linear growth. Using technics from semigroup theory, we prove existence, and path regularity of stochastic solution depending on that of the initial condition. Our results are also valid for the stochastic Cahn-Hilliard equation with unbounded noise diffusion, for which previ…
This work reviews deterministic and diffusion approximations of the stochastic chemical reaction networks and explains their applications. We discuss the added value the diffusion approximation provides for systems with different phenomena, such as a deficiency and a bistability. It is advocated that the diffusion approximation can be considered as an alternative theoretical approach to study the reaction networks rather than a simulation shortcut. We discuss two examples in which the diffusion approximation is able to catch qualitative properties of reaction networks that the deterministic mo…
Stochastic Taylor expansions of the expectation of functionals applied to diffusion processes which are solutions of stochastic differential equation systems are introduced. Taylor formulas w.r.t. increments of the time are presented for both, Itô and Stratonovich stochastic differential equation systems with multi-dimensional Wiener processes. Due to the very complex formulas arising for higher order expansions, an advantageous graphical representation by coloured trees is developed. The convergence of truncated formulas is analyzed and estimates for the truncation error are calculated. Final…
In this paper, we consider the fully coupled forward-backward stochastic functional differential equations (FBSFDEs) with stochastic functional differential equations as the forward equations and the generalized anticipated backward stochastic differential equations as the backward equations. We will prove the existence and uniqueness theorem for FBSFDEs. As an application, we deal with a quadratic optimal control problem for functional stochastic systems, and get the explicit form of the optimal control by virtue of FBSFDEs.
For the concrete model of Brownian particles dynamics in non-uniform environment, the time interval estimation is constructed, on which phenomenological Fick laws for diffusion phenomenon description can be used. The knowledge of these estimations gives the possibility to judge about adequacy of the initial assumption about dynamics of the real processes. Noted, that such an assessment has not been introduced yet, up to date.
This paper is devoted to study different type of BSDE with delayed generator. We first establish an existence and uniqueness result under delayed Lipschitz condition for non homogenous backward stochastic differential equation with delayed generator. Next, existence and uniqueness result for general fully coupled forward backward stochastic differential equation with delayed coefficients has been derived.
We prove the existence and uniqueness of mild solution for the stochastic partial differential equation $$\left(\partial^α- \textit{B} \right) u(t,x)= u(t,x) \cdot \dot{W}(t,x),$$ where $$α\in (1/2, 1)\cup(1, 2);$$ $\textit{B}$ is an uniform elliptic operator with variable coefficients and $\dot W$ is a Gaussian noise general in time with space covariance given by fractional, Riesz and Bessel kernel.
In this paper, we introduce some fundamental notions related to the so-called stochastic derivatives with respect to a given $σ$-field $\mathcal{Q}$. In our framework, we recall well-known results about Markov--Wiener diffusions. We then focus mainly on the case where $X$ is a fractional diffusion and where $\mathcal{Q}$ is the past, the future or the present of $X$. We treat some crucial examples and our main result is the existence of stochastic derivatives with respect to the present of $X$ when $X$ solves a stochastic differential equation driven by a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst …
In this paper, we study stochastic homogenization of a coupled diffusion-reaction system. The diffusion-reaction system is coupled to stochastic differential equations, which govern the changes in the media properties. Though homogenization with changing media properties has been studied in previous findings, there is little research on homogenization when the media properties change due to stochastic differential equations. Such processes occur in many applications, where the changes in media properties are due to particle deposition. In the paper, we investigate the well-posedness of the non…
In this article we show that the ordinary stochastic differential equations of K.Itô maybe considered as part of a larger class of second order stochastic PDE's that are quasi linear and have the property of translation invariance. We show using the `monotonicity inequality' and the Lipshitz continuity of the coefficients $σ_{ij}$ and $b_i$, existence and uniqueness of strong solutions for these stochastic PDE's. Using pathwise uniqueness, we prove the strong Markov property.
The comparison theorem for skew Brownian motions is proved. As the corollary we get the estimate on ${\Cal L}_1-$distance between two skew Brownian motions started from different points. Using this result we prove the continuous dependence on starting point of one class of generalized diffusion processes constructed as the strong solution to an SDE.
The existence of global nonnegative martingale solutions to a stochastic cross-diffusion system for an arbitrary but finite number of interacting population species is shown. The random influence of the environment is modeled by a multiplicative noise term. The diffusion matrix is generally neither symmetric nor positive definite, but it possesses a quadratic entropy structure. This structure allows us to work in a Hilbert space framework and to apply a stochastic Galerkin method. The existence proof is based on energy-type estimates, the tightness criterion of Brzeźniak and co-workers, and Ja…
Although the same mathematical expression is used to describe physical diffusion and stochastic diffusion, there are intrinsic similarities and differences in their nature. A comparative study shows that characteristic terms of physical and stochastic diffusion cannot be placed exactly in one-to-one correspondence. Therefore, judgment needs to be exercised in transferring ideas between physical and stochastic diffusion.
We construct a probabilistic representation of a system of fully coupled parabolic equations arising as a model describing spatial segregation of interacting population species. We derive a closed system of stochastic equations such that its solution allows to obtain a probabilistic representation of a weak solution of the Cauchy problem for the PDE system. The corresponded stochastic system is presented in the form of a system of stochastic equations describing nonlinear Markov processes and their multiplicative functionals.
We consider strong convergence of the finite differences approximation in space for stochastic reaction diffusion equations with multiplicative noise under a one-sided Lipschitz condition only. We derive convergence with an implicit rate depending on the regularity of the exact solution. This can be made explicit if the variational solution has more than its canonical spatial regularity. As an application, spatially extended FitzHugh-Nagumo systems with noise are considered.
In this paper we study properties of solutions to stochastic differential equations with Sobolev diffusion coefficients and singular drifts. The properties we study include stability with respect to the coefficients, weak differentiability with respect to starting points, and the Malliavin differentiability with respect to sample paths. We also establish Bismut-Elworthy-Li's formula for the solutions. As an application, we use the stochastic Lagrangian representation of incompressible Navier-Stokes equations given by Constantin-Iyer \cite{Co-Iy} to prove the local well-posedness of NSEs in $\m…
This paper provides a new characterization of the stochastic invariance of a closed subset of R^d with respect to a diffusion. We extend the well-known inward pointing Stratonovich drift condition to the case where the diffusion matrix can fail to be differentiable: we only assume that the covariance matrix is. In particular, our result can be directly applied to construct affine diffusions and polynomial preserving diffusions on any arbitrary closed set.
We study the nonlinear stochastic time-fractional diffusion equations in the spatial domain $\mathbb{R}$, driven by multiplicative space-time white noise. The fractional index $β$ varies continuously from $0$ to $2$. The case $β=1$ (resp. $β=2$) corresponds to the stochastic heat (resp. wave) equation. The cases $β\in \:]0,1[\:$ and $β\in \:]1,2[\:$ are called {\it slow diffusion equations} and {\it fast diffusion equations}, respectively. Existence and uniqueness of random field solutions with measure-valued initial data, such as the Dirac delta measure, are established. Upper bounds on all $…
In the present paper, a stochastic Taylor expansion of some functional applied to the solution process of an Itô or Stratonovich stochastic differential equation with a multi-dimensional driving Wiener process is given. Therefore, the multi-colored rooted tree analysis is applied in order to obtain a transparent representation of the expansion which is similar to the B-series expansion for solutions of ordinary differential equations in the deterministic setting. Further, some estimates for the mean--square and the mean truncation errors are given.
