Maximum distance separable (MDS) codes are optimal where the minimum distance cannot be improved for a given length and code size. Twisted Reed-Solomon codes over finite fields were introduced in 2017, which are generalization of Reed-Solomon codes. Twisted Reed-Solomon codes can be applied in cryptography which prefer the codes with large minimum distance. MDS codes can be constructed from twisted Reed-Solomon codes, and most of them are not equivalent to Reed-Solomon codes. In this paper, we first generalize twisted Reed-Solomon codes to generalized twisted Reed-Solomon codes, then we give some new explicit constructions of MDS (generalized) twisted Reed-Solomon codes. In some cases, our constructions can get MDS codes with the length longer than the constructions of previous works. Linear complementary dual (LCD) codes are linear codes that intersect with their duals trivially. LCD codes can be applied in cryptography. This application of LCD codes renewed the interest in the construction of LCD codes having a large minimum distance. We also provide new constructions of LCD MDS codes from generalized twisted Reed-Solomon codes.
Both linear complementary dual (LCD) codes and maximum distance separable (MDS) codes have good algebraic structures, and they have interesting practical applications such as communication systems, data storage, quantum codes, and so on. So far, most of LCD MDS codes have been constructed by employing generalized Reed-Solomon codes. In this paper we construct some classes of new Euclidean LCD MDS codes and Hermitian LCD MDS codes which are not monomially equivalent to Reed-Solomon codes, called LCD MDS codes of non-Reed- Solomon type. Our method is based on the constructions of Beelen et al. (…
MDS codes and self-dual codes are important families of classical codes in coding theory. It is of interest to investigate MDS self-dual codes. The existence of MDS self-dual codes over finite field $F_q$ is completely solved for $q$ is even. In this paper, for finite field with odd characteristic, we construct some new classes of MDS self-dual codes by (extended) generalized Reed-Solomon codes.
Self-dual maximum distance separable codes (self-dual MDS codes) and self-dual near MDS codes are very important in coding theory and practice. Thus, it is interesting to construct self-dual MDS or self-dual near MDS codes. In this paper, we not only give check matrices of dual codes of twisted generalized Reed-Solomon codes (TGRS codes) but also present the efficient and necessary condition of self-dual TGRS codes. Moreover, we construct several classes of self-dual MDS or self-dual near MDS codes from TGRS codes.
Based on the fundamental results on MDS self-dual codes over finite fields constructed via generalized Reed-Solomon codes \cite{JX} and extended generalized Reed-Solomon codes \cite{Yan}, many series of MDS self-dual codes with different length have been obtained recently by a variety of constructions and individual computations. In this paper, we present an unified approach to get several previous results with concise statements and simplified proofs, and some new constructions on MDS self-dual codes. In the conclusion section we raise two open problems.
In this paper, we produce some new classes of entanglement-assisted quantum MDS codes(EAQMDS codes for short) via generalized Reed-Solomon codes over finite fields of odd characteristic. Among our constructions, there are many EAQMDS codes with new lengths which have never been reported. Moreover, some of them have larger minimum distance than known results.
Quantum convolutional codes can be used to protect a sequence of qubits of arbitrary length against decoherence. In this paper, we give two new constructions of quantum MDS convolutional codes derived from generalized Reed-Solomon codes and obtain eighteen new classes of quantum MDS convolutional codes. Most of them are new in the sense that the parameters of the codes are different from all the previously known ones.
In this paper, we mainly use classical Hermitian self-orthogonal generalized Reed-Solomon codes to construct two new classes of quantum MDS codes. Most of our quantum MDS codes have minimum distance larger than q/2+1. Compared with previously known constructions, these quantum MDS codes in our constructions have large minimum distance and their parameters are not covered by the previous codes.
Self-dual MDS and NMDS codes over finite fields are linear codes with significant combinatorial and cryptographic applications. In this paper, firstly, we investigate the duality properties of generalized twisted Reed-Solomon (abbreviated GTRS) codes in some special cases. In what follows, a new systematic approach is proposed to draw Hermitian self-dual (+)-GTRS codes. The necessary and sufficient conditions of a Hermitian self-dual (+)-GTRS code are presented. With this method, several classes of Hermitian self-dual MDS and NMDS codes are constructed.
Linear codes with complementary duals (abbreviated LCD) are linear codes whose intersection with their dual is trivial. When they are binary, they play an important role in armoring implementations against side-channel attacks and fault injection attacks. Non-binary LCD codes in characteristic 2 can be transformed into binary LCD codes by expansion. On the other hand, being optimal codes, maximum distance separable codes (abbreviated MDS) have been of much interest from many researchers due to their theoretical significant and practical implications. However, little work has been done on LCD M…
Linear codes with complementary duals (LCD) have a great deal of significance amongst linear codes. Maximum distance separable (MDS) codes are also an important class of linear codes since they achieve the greatest error correcting and detecting capabilities for fixed length and dimension. The construction of linear codes that are both LCD and MDS is a hard task in coding theory. In this paper, we study the constructions of LCD codes that are MDS from negacyclic codes over finite fields of odd prime power $q$ elements. We construct four families of MDS negacyclic LCD codes of length $n|\frac{q…
Linear complementary-dual (LCD for short) codes are linear codes that intersect with their duals trivially. LCD codes have been used in certain communication systems. It is recently found that LCD codes can be applied in cryptography. This application of LCD codes renewed the interest in the construction of LCD codes having a large minimum distance. MDS codes are optimal in the sense that the minimum distance cannot be improved for given length and code size. Constructing LCD MDS codes is thus of significance in theory and practice. Recently, Jin (\cite{Jin}, IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory, 2016) con…
We study the problem of classifying deep holes of Reed-Solomon codes. We show that this problem is equivalent to the problem of classifying MDS extensions of Reed-Solomon codes by one digit. This equivalence allows us to improve recent results on the former problem. In particular, we classify deep holes of Reed-Solomon codes of dimension greater than half the alphabet size. We also give a complete classification of deep holes of Reed Solomon codes with redundancy three in all dimensions.
Both MDS and Euclidean self-dual codes have theoretical and practical importance and the study of MDS self-dual codes has attracted lots of attention in recent years. In particular, determining existence of $q$-ary MDS self-dual codes for various lengths has been investigated extensively. The problem is completely solved for the case where $q$ is even. The current paper focuses on the case where $q$ is odd. We construct a few classes of new MDS self-dual code through generalized Reed-Solomon codes. More precisely, we show that for any given even length $n$ we have a $q$-ary MDS code as long as…
In 1964, Massey introduced a class of codes with complementary duals which are called Linear Complimentary Dual (LCD for short) codes. He showed that LCD codes have applications in communication system, side-channel attack (SCA) and so on. LCD codes have been extensively studied in literature. On the other hand, MDS codes form an optimal family of classical codes which have wide applications in both theory and practice. The main purpose of this paper is to give an explicit construction of several classes of LCD MDS codes, using tools from algebraic function fields. We exemplify this constructi…
In this paper, we study a class of twisted generalized Reed-Solomon (TGRS) codes with general l twists. A sufficient and necessary condition for the TGRS codes to be MDS or l-MDS (l<k and l<n-k) is determined. A sufficient and necessary condition that such a TGRS code is self-dual for 3l<k-1 is also presented. Finally, we give an explicit construction of self-dual TGRS codes. And examples of self-dual MDS TGRS codes for small l are given.
The hull of a linear code is defined to be the intersection of the code and its dual. When the size of the hull is small, it has been proved that some algorithms for checking permutation equivalence of two linear codes and computing the automorphism group of a linear code are very effective in general. Maximum distance separable (MDS) codes are codes meeting the Singleton bound. Twisted Reed-Solomon codes is a generalization of Reed-Solomon codes, which is also a nice construction for MDS codes. In this short letter, we obtain some twisted Reed-Solomon MDS codes with one-dimensional hull. More…
In distributed storage, erasure codes -- like Reed-Solomon Codes -- are often employed to provide reliability. In this setting, it is desirable to be able to repair one or more failed nodes while minimizing the repair bandwidth. In this work, motivated by Reed-Solomon codes, we study the problem of repairing multiple failed nodes in a scalar MDS code. We extend the framework of (Guruswami and Wootters, 2017) to give a framework for constructing repair schemes for multiple failures in general scalar MDS codes, in the centralized repair model. We then specialize our framework to Reed-Solomon cod…
Linear complementary dual (LCD) maximum distance separable (MDS) codes are constructed to given specifications. For given $n$ and $r<n$, with $n$ or $r$ (or both) odd, MDS LCD $(n,r)$ codes are constructed over finite fields whose characteristic does not divide $n$. Series of LCD MDS codes are constructed to required rate and required error-correcting capability. Given the field $GF(q)$ and $n/(q-1)$, LCD MDS codes of length $n$ and dimension $r$ are explicitly constructed over $GF(q)$ for all $r<n$ when $n$ is odd and for all odd $r<n$ when $n$ is even. For given dimension and given error-cor…
We prove that the cyclic and constacyclic codes constructed by Grassl and Rötteler in arXiv:1502.05267 are generalised Reed-Solomon codes. This note can be considered as an addendum to that article. It can also be considered as an appendix to arXiv:2106.10180, where Conjecture 11 of arXiv:1502.0526, which was stated for Grassl-Rötteler codes, is proven for generalised Reed-Solomon codes. The content of this note, together with arXiv:2106.10180, therefore implies that Conjecture 11 from arXiv:1502.0526 is true.
We present a new general construction of MDS codes over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$. We describe two explicit subclasses which contain new MDS codes of length at least $q/2$ for all values of $q \ge 11$. Moreover, we show that most of the new codes are not equivalent to a Reed-Solomon code.
MDS self-dual codes over finite fields have attracted a lot of attention in recent years by their theoretical interests in coding theory and applications in cryptography and combinatorics. In this paper we present a series of MDS self-dual codes with new length by using generalized Reed-Solomon codes and extended generalized Reed-Solomon codes as the candidates of MDS codes and taking their evaluation sets as an union of cyclotomic classes. The conditions on such MDS codes being self-dual are expressed in terms of cyclotomic numbers.
Maximum distance separable (MDS) codes are optimal in the sense that the minimum distance cannot be improved for a given length and code size. The most prominent MDS codes are generalized Reed-Solomon (GRS) codes. The square $\mathcal{C}^{2}$ of a linear code $\mathcal{C}$ is the linear code spanned by the component-wise products of every pair of codewords in $\mathcal{C}$. For an MDS code $\mathcal{C}$, it is convenient to determine whether $\mathcal{C}$ is a GRS code by determining the dimension of $\mathcal{C}^{2}$. In this paper, we investigate under what conditions that MDS constacyclic c…
In this article, we present a new construction of evaluation codes in the Hamming metric, which we call twisted Reed-Solomon codes. Whereas Reed-Solomon (RS) codes are MDS codes, this need not be the case for twisted RS codes. Nonetheless, we show that our construction yields several families of MDS codes. Further, for a large subclass of (MDS) twisted RS codes, we show that the new codes are not generalized RS codes. To achieve this, we use properties of Schur squares of codes as well as an explicit description of the dual of a large subclass of our codes. We conclude the paper with a descrip…
The hull of linear codes have promising utilization in coding theory and quantum coding theory. In this paper, we study the hull of generalized Reed-Solomon codes and extended generalized Reed-Solomon codes over finite fields with respect to the Euclidean inner product. Several infinite families of MDS codes with arbitrary dimensional hull are presented. As an application, using these MDS codes with arbitrary dimensional hull, we construct several new infinite families of entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes with flexible parameters.
In this paper, we study the complementary dual codes in more general setting (which are called Galois LCD codes) by a uniform method. A necessary and sufficient condition for linear codes to be Galois LCD codes is determined, and constacyclic codes to be Galois LCD codes are characterized. Some illustrative examples which constacyclic codes are Galois LCD MDS codes are provided as well. In particular, we study Hermitian LCD constacyclic codes. Finally, we present a construction of a class of Hermitian LCD codes which are also MDS codes.
A linear code is called an MDS self-dual code if it is both an MDS code and a self-dual code with respect to the Euclidean inner product. The parameters of such codes are completely determined by the code length. In this paper, we consider new constructions of MDS self-dual codes via generalized Reed-Solomon (GRS) codes and their extended codes. The critical idea of our constructions is to choose suitable evaluation points such that the corresponding (extended) GRS codes are self-dual. The evaluation set of our constructions is consists of a subgroup of finite fields and its cosets in a bigger…
Entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (EAQECCs) make use of preexisting entanglement between the sender and receiver to boost the rate of transmission. It is possible to construct an EAQECC from any classical linear code, unlike standard quantum error-correcting codes, which can only be constructed from dual-containing codes. However, the parameter of ebits $c$ is usually calculated by computer search. In this paper, we construct four classes of MDS entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (MDS EAQECCs) based on $k$-Galois LCD MDS codes for some certain code lengths,…
In this paper, we obtain some new results on the existence of MDS self-dual codes utilizing (extended) generalized Reed-Solomon codes over finite fields of odd characteristic. For some fixed $q$, our results can produce more classes of MDS self-dual codes than previous works.
Linear complementary dual (LCD) codes is a class of linear codes introduced by Massey in 1964. LCD codes have been extensively studied in literature recently. In addition to their applications in data storage, communications systems, and consumer electronics, LCD codes have been employed in cryptography. More specifically, it has been shown that LCD codes can also help improve the security of the information processed by sensitive devices, especially against so-called side-channel attacks (SCA) and fault non-invasive attacks. In this paper, we are interested in the construction of particular a…
Designing good error correcting codes whose generator matrix has a support constraint, i.e., one for which only certain entries of the generator matrix are allowed to be non-zero, has found many recent applications, including in distributed coding and storage, multiple access networks, and weakly secure data exchange. The dual problem, where the parity check matrix has a support constraint, comes up in the design of locally repairable codes. The central problem here is to design codes with the largest possible minimum distance, subject to the given support constraint on the generator matrix. A…
In this paper, we construct MDS Euclidean self-dual codes which are extended cyclic duadic codes. And we obtain many new MDS Euclidean self-dual codes. We also construct MDS Hermitian self-dual codes from generalized Reed-Solomon codes and constacyclic codes. And we give some results on Hermitian self-dual codes, which are the extended cyclic duadic codes.
In this paper, we present three new classes of $q$-ary quantum MDS codes utilizing generalized Reed-Solomon codes satisfying Hermitian self-orthogonal property. Among our constructions, the minimum distance of some $q$-ary quantum MDS codes can be bigger than $\frac{q}{2}+1$. Comparing to previous known constructions, the lengths of codes in our constructions are more flexible.
We consider the problem of constructing linear Maximum Distance Separable (MDS) error-correcting codes with generator matrices that are sparsest and balanced. In this context, sparsest means that every row has the least possible number of non-zero entries, and balanced means that every column contains the same number of non-zero entries. Codes with this structure minimize the maximal computation time of computing any code symbol, a property that is appealing to systems where computational load-balancing is critical. The problem was studied before by Dau et al. where it was shown that there alw…
