We calculate the rate of collisional decay of the axial charge in an ultrarelativistic electron-positron plasma, also known as the chirality flipping rate. We find that contrary to the existing estimates, the chirality flipping rate appears already in the first order in the fine-structure constant $α$ and is therefore orders of magnitude greater than previously believed. The main channels for the rapid relaxation of the axial charge are the collinear emission of a weakly damped photon and the Compton scattering. The latter contributes to the $\mathcal{O}(α)$ result because of the infrared divergence in its cross section, which is regularized on the soft scale $\sim eT$ due to the thermal corrections. Our results are important for the description of the early Universe processes (such as leptogenesis or magnetogenesis) that affect differently left- and right-chiral fermions of the Standard Model, as discussed in more details in the companion Letter.
Analytical treatment of neutrino asymmetry equilibration from flavour oscillations in the early universe
A. D.多尔戈夫H.汉森,S。牧师,S。T. Petcov,G. G. Raffelt和D.
We calculate the leading Coulomb correction to the energy loss in the electron-nucleus Bremsstrahlung for arbitrary energy of the incoming particle. This correction determines the charge asymmetry, i.e., the difference of electron and positron energy loss. The result is presented in terms of the classical polylogarithms $\mathrm{Li}_2$ and $\mathrm{Li}_3$. We use modern multiloop methods based on the IBP reduction and on the differential equations for master integrals. We provide both the threshold and the high-energy asymptotics of the found asymmetry and compare them with the available resul…
A quantity of particular experimental interest is the forward-backward asymmetry in the angular distribution of positively and negatively charged fermions produced in $Z^0$ decays. Measurements of this asymmetry can enable independent determinations of the neutral-current couplings of these fermions, i.e. the $Z^0$ boson couplings for left- and right-handed fermions, respectively. Due to the quark confinement, however, it is difficult to determine the electroweak interactions of quarks, especially for light quarks. In the hadron production electron positron annihilation process, the parton mod…

We review in some detail the QCD corrections to the measurement of the forward-backward charge asymmetry of heavy quarks in the $\mathrm{e^+e^-\rightarrow Q\overline{Q}(g)}$ process at the Z pole. We show that the size of these corrections can be reduced by an order of magnitude by using simple cuts on jet acollinearity. Such a reduction is expected to lead to systematic uncertainties at the $Δ\mathrm{A_{FB}^{0,Q}} \approx 10^{-4}$ level, opening up the path to high precision electroweak measurements with heavy flavors at future high luminosity $\mathrm{e^+e^-}$ colliders like the FCC-ee.
The forward-backward asymmetry is an important measurable quantity which can enable independent determination of the neutral-current couplings of fermions. In this paper, we extend the definition of the asymmetry from the partonic level to the hadronic level by calculating this asymmetry of the hadron pair in the semi-inclusive electron position annihilation process. Semi-inclusive implies that a back-to-back jet is also measured in addition to the hadron pair. Due to the limitation of the factorization theorem, we calculate this process up to leading order twist-4 level by applying the collin…
The bottom quark forward-backward asymmetry $A_{\rm{FB}}$ is a key observable in electron-positron collisions at the $Z^{0}$ peak. In this paper, we employ the Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC) to fix the $α_s$-running behavior of the next-to-next-to-leading order QCD corrections to $A_{\rm{FB}}$. The resulting PMC scale for this $A_{\rm{FB}}$ is an order of magnitude smaller than the conventional choice $μ_r=M_Z$. This scale has the physically reasonable behavior and reflects the virtuality of its QCD dynamics, which is independent to the choice of renormalization scale. Our analyses sh…
The measurement of the charge asymmetry $A_{FB}(e^-e^+\to μ^-μ^+)$ will play an important role at the high-luminosity circular electron-positron collider FCCee considered for construction at CERN. In particular, near the Z resonance, $\sqrt{s} \simeq M_Z \pm 3.5$ GeV, $A_{FB}$ will provide a very precise value of the pure electromagnetic coupling constant $α_{QED}(M_Z)$, which is vitally important for overall tests of the Standard Model. For this purpose, $A_{FB}$ will be measured at the FCCee with an experimental error better than $δA_{FB} \simeq 3\cdot 10^{-5},$ at least a factor 100 more pr…

One of the most challenging tasks for future high-luminosity electron-positron colliders is to extract Higgs triple coupling. It was proposed that this can be carried out via the precisely measuring the cross section of ZH associated production up to $0.4\%$. In this paper, we example the possible heavy pollution from Higgs-top anomalous coupling. Our numerical results show that the pollution is small for $\sqrt{s}_{e^+e^-}= 240 GeV$. However for the higher energy collider, pollution is sizable, which should be taken into account. We further explored the possibility to measure CP-violated Higg…
We set up a formalism, within the antenna subtraction framework, for computing the production of a massive quark-antiquark pair in electron positron collisions at next-to-next-to-leading order in the coupling $α_s$ of quantum chromodynamics at the differential level. Our formalism applies to the calculation of any infrared-safe observable. We apply this set-up to the production of top-quark top antiquark pairs in the continuum. We compute the production cross section and several distributions. We determine, in particular, the top-quark forward-backward asymmetry at order $α_s^2$. Our result ag…
We discuss recent experimental results concerning the cross section ratio of positron over electron elastic scattering on protons, and compare with the predictions of a pre-existent calculation. The deviation from unity of this ratio, $i.e.$, a charge asymmetry different from zero, is the signature of contributions beyond the Born approximation. After reviewing the published results, we compare the elastic data to a calculation which includes the diagram corresponding to two-photon exchange. It turns out that all the data on the cross section ratio, in the limit of their precision, do not show…
We calculate the first Coulomb correction to the spectra of two processes: the electron bremsstrahlung and electron-positron photoproduction in the Coulomb field. We show that, in contrast to the results obtained in the Born approximation and in the high-energy limit, the obtained corrections for these two process are not related by the crossing symmetry substitutions. The found corrections determine the leading contribution to the charge asymmetry in these processes. We use modern multiloop methods based on the IBP reduction and on the differential equations for master integrals. The results …
At the future high luminosity electron-positron collider FCC-ee proposed for CERN, the precise measurement of the charge asymmetry in $e^+ e^- \to μ^+ μ^-$ near the Z resonance is of special interest. In particular, such a measurement at $M_Z \pm 3.5$ GeV may provide a very precise measurement of the electromagnetic coupling at the scale $\sim M_Z$, a fundamental constant of the Standard Model. However, this charge asymmetry is plagued by a large trivial contribution from the interference of photon emission from initial state electrons and final state muons. We address the question whether thi…
The photon-photon interaction in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collision is a source of the $(e^+,e^-)$ pairs. The photon-photon fusion leads the lepton creation in the broad configuration space around "collision" point. Those created close to heavy nuclei may undergo strong interaction with them. The impact parameter space distribution of electrons and positrons are calculated within the b-space EPA model of such collisions. The evolution due to the electromagnetic interaction of $(e^+,e^-)$ with nuclei is studied, and the distortion of rapidity and transverse momentum distributions are shown.…
We study the possibility of generating tiny Dirac neutrino masses at one loop level through the \textit{scotogenic} mechanism such that one of the particles going inside the loop can be a stable cold dark matter (DM) candidate. Majorana mass terms of singlet fermions as well as tree level Dirac neutrino masses are prevented by incorporating the presence of additional discrete symmetries in a minimal fashion, which also guarantee the stability of the dark matter candidate. Due to the absence of total lepton number violation, the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe is generated through the…

Verifying $V_{tb} \simeq 1$ is critical to test the three generation assumption of the Standard Model. So far our best knowledge of $V_{tb}$ is inferred either from the $3\times 3$ unitarity of CKM matrix or from single top-quark productions upon the assumption of universal weak couplings. The unitarity could be relaxed in new physics models with extra heavy quarks and the universality of weak couplings could also be broken if the $Wtb$ coupling is modified in new physics models. In this work we propose to measure $V_{tb}$ in the process of $e^+ e^- \to t\bar{t}$ without prior knowledge of the…

The correlation between the longitudinal polarization of a fragmenting quark and the transverse momenta of the produced hadrons was predicted over two decades ago. Nevertheless, experimental searches in the electron-positron annihilation process, both through the so-called jet handedness measurements by the {\tt SLD} Collaboration and more recently via the measurements of the azimuthal asymmetry containing the helicity-dependent dihadron fragmentation function (DiFF) by the $\textrm{BELLE}$ Collaboration, did not yield a signal. We will first discuss our recent explanation of the zero result a…
Observation of charge asymmetry by comparing electron and positron, or muon and anti-muon, scattering on a hadronic target presently serves as an experimental tool to study two-photon exchange effects. In addition to two-photon exchange, real photon emission also contributes to the charge asymmetry. We present a theoretical formalism, explicit expressions, and a numerical analysis of hard photon emission for the charge asymmetry in lepton- and antilepton-proton scattering. Different kinematic conditions are considered, namely, either fixed transferred momentum squared or a fixed lepton scatter…
We explain the electron-positron excess reported by the DAMPE collaboration recently in a radiative Dirac seesaw model where a dark $U(1)_X$ gauge symmetry can (i) forbid the tree-level Yukawa couplings of three right-handed neutrinos to the standard model lepton and Higgs doublets, (ii) predict the existence of three dark fermions for the gauge anomaly cancellation, (iii) mediate a testable scattering of the lightest dark fermion off the nucleons. Our model can also accommodate a successful leptogenesis to generate the cosmic baryon asymmetry.
