We propose a new inner product for scalar fields that are solutions of the Klein-Gordon equation with $m^2<0$. This inner product is non-local, bearing an integral kernel including Bessel functions of the second kind, and the associated norm proves to be positive definite in the subspace of oscillatory solutions, as opposed to the conventional one. Poincaré transformations are unitarily implemented on this subspace, which is the support of a unitary and irreducible representation of the proper orthochronous Poincaré group. We also provide a new Fourier Transform between configuration and momentum spaces which is unitary, and recover the projection onto the representation space. This new scenario suggests a revision of the corresponding quantum field theory.
We show that the equation of motion from the Dirac-Born-Infeld effective action of a general scalar field with some specific potentials admits exact solutions after appropriate field redefinitions. Based on the exact solutions and their energy-momentum tensors, we find that massive scalars and massless scalars of oscillating modes in the DBI effective theory are not pressureless generically for any possible momenta, which implies that the pressureless "tachyon matter" forming at late time of the tachyon condensation process should not really be some massive matter. It is more likely that the t…
It is shown that on the de Sitter manifolds the tachyonic geodesics are restricted such that the classical tachyons cannot exist on this manifold at any time. On the contrary, the theory of the scalar quantum tachyons is free of any restriction. The tachyonic scalar and Dirac plane waves are deduced in this geometry, pointing out that these are well-defined, behaving as tempered distributions at any moment.
For the constant-roll tachyon inflation, we derive the analytical expressions for the scalar and tensor power spectra, the scalar and tensor spectral tilts and the tensor to scalar ratio up to the first order by using the method of Bessel function approximation. The derived $n_s-r$ results for the constant-roll inflation are also compared with the observations, we find that only one constant-roll inflation is consistent with the observations and observations constrain the constant-roll inflation to be slow-roll inflation. The tachyon potential is also reconstructed for the constant-roll inflat…
We derive in detail the equations of motion for the tensorial modes of primordial metric perturbations in the Coupled-Scalar-Tachyon Bounce Universe. We solve for the gravitational wave equations in the pre-bounce contraction and the post-bounce expansion epochs. To match the solutions of the tensor perturbations, we idealise the bounce process yet retaining the essential physical properties of the bounce universe. We put forward two matching conditions: one ensures the continuity of the gravitational wave functions and the other respects the symmetric nature of the bounce dynamics. The matchi…
A scalar field non-minimally coupled to certain geometric [or matter] invariants which are sourced by [electro]vacuum black holes (BHs) may spontaneously grow around the latter, due to a tachyonic instability. This process is expected to lead to a new, dynamically preferred, equilibrium state: a scalarised BH. The most studied geometric [matter] source term for such spontaneous BH scalarisation is the Gauss-Bonnet quadratic curvature [Maxwell invariant]. This phenomenon has been mostly analysed for asymptotically flat spacetimes. Here we consider the impact of a positive cosmological constant,…
Tachyonic preheating is realized when the inflaton repeatedly returns to a convex region of the potential during the post-inflationary oscillating phase. This will induce a strong tachyonic instability and lead to a rapid fragmentation of the coherent field that can complete within a fraction of an $e$-fold. In this paper, we study the linear regime of this process in a model-independent way. To this purpose, we construct simplified models that provide an analytic Floquet theoretic description of mode growth. This approach captures the essential features of well-motivated tachyonic preheating …
We perform a full investigation on dynamics of a new dark energy model in which the four-derivative of a non-canonical scalar field (tachyon) is non-minimally coupled to the vector torsion. Our analysis is done in the framework of teleparallel equivalent of general relativity which is based on torsion instead of curvature. We show that in our model there exists a late-time scaling attractor (point $P_{4}$), corresponding to an accelerating universe with the property that dark energy and dark matter densities are of the same order. Such a point can help to alleviate the cosmological coincidence…
Supertranslation Goldstone lies in certain "exceptional series" representations of $SL(2,\mathbb{C})$. Interestingly, $m^2=-3$ scalar tachyon in three dimensional de Sitter space also lies in the same representation. In this note, we analyze these theories, focusing on representation-theoretical aspects, and emphasize that "modulo certain polynomials", there is a unitary representation of the corresponding symmetry group.
We study dynamics of generalized tachyon scalar field in the framework of teleparallel gravity. This model is an extension of tachyonic teleparallel dark energy model which has been proposed in [26]. In contrast with tachyonic teleparallel dark energy model that has no scaling attractors, here we find some scaling attractors which means that the cosmological coincidence problem can be alleviated. Scaling attractors present for both interacting and non-interacting dark energy, dark matter cases.
