Given a group of kinematical symmetry generators, one can construct a compatible noncommutative spacetime and deformed phase space by means of projective geometry. This was the main idea behind the very first model of noncommutative spacetime, proposed by H.S. Snyder in 1947. In this framework, spacetime coordinates are the translation generators over a manifold that is symmetric under the required generators, while momenta are projective coordinates on such a manifold. In these proceedings we review the construction of Euclidean and Lorentzian noncommutative Snyder spaces and investigate the freedom left by this construction in the choice of the physical momenta, because of different available choices of projective coordinates. In particular, we derive a quasi-canonical structure for both the Euclidean and Lorentzian Snyder noncommutative models such that their phase space algebra is diagonal although no longer quadratic.
The relativistic $D=4$ Snyder model is formulated in terms of $D=4$ $dS$ algebra $o(4,1)$ generators, with noncommutative Lorentz-invariant Snyder quantum space-time provided by $\frac{O(4,1)}{O(3,1)}$ coset generators. Analogously, in relativistic $D=4$ Yang models the quantum-deformed relativistic phase space is described by the algebras of coset generators $\frac{O(5,1)}{O(3,1)}$ or $\frac{O(4,2)}{O(3,1)}$. We extend these algebraic considerations by using respective $dS$ superalgebras, which provide Lorentz-covariant quantum superspaces (SUSY Snyder model) as well as relativistic quantum p…
Inspired by quantum gravity proposal, we construct a deformed phase space which supports the UV and IR cutoffs. We show that the Liouville theorem is satisfied in the deformed phase space which allows us to formulate the thermodynamics of the early Universe in the semiclassical regime. Applying the proposed method to the Snyder noncommutative space, we find a temperature dependent equation of state which opens a new window for natural realization of inflation as a phase transition from quantum gravity regime to the standard radiation dominated era. Also we obtain finite energy and entropy dens…
In this paper, we construct for the first time the non-commutative fluid with the deformed Poincare invariance. To this end, the realization formalism of the noncommutative spaces is employed and the results are particularized to the Snyder space. The non-commutative fluid generalizes the fluid model in the action functional formulation to the noncommutative space. The fluid equations of motion and the conserved energy-momentum tensor are obtained.
We show that the Lorentzian Snyder models, together with their Galilei and Carroll limiting cases, can be rigorously constructed through the projective geometry description of Lorentzian, Galilean and Carrollian spaces with nonvanishing constant curvature. The projective coordinates of such curved spaces take the role of momenta, while translation generators over the same spaces are identified with noncommutative spacetime coordinates. In this way, one obtains a deformed phase space algebra, which fully characterizes the Snyder model and is invariant under boosts and rotations of the relevant …
We report an investigation of the Snyder noncommutative spacetime and of some of its most natural generalizations, also looking at them as a powerful tool for comparing different notions of dimensionality of a quantum spacetime. It is known that (generalized-)Snyder noncommutativity, while having rich off-shell implications (kinematical Hilbert space), does not affect on-shell particles (physical Hilbert space), and we argue that physically meaningful notions of dimensionality should describe such spacetimes as trivially four-dimensional, without any running with scales. By studying the thermo…
We show that the two-time physics model leads to a mechanical system with Dirac brackets consistent with the Snyder noncommutative space. An Euclidean version of this space is also obtained and it is shown that both spaces have a dual system describing a particle in a curved space-time.
We study the two-dimensional version of a quartic self-interacting quantum scalar field on a curved and noncommutative space (Snyder-de Sitter). We show that the model is renormalizable at the one-loop level and compute the beta functions of the related couplings. The renormalization group flow is then studied numerically, arriving at the conclusion that noncommutative-curved deformations can yield both relevant and irrelevant contributions to the one-loop effective action.
We show that two indistinguishable aspects of the divergences occurring in the Casimir effect, namely the divergence of the energy of the higher modes and the non-com\-pact\-ness of the momentum space, get disentangled in a given noncommutative setup. To this end, we consider a scalar field between two parallel plates in an anti-Snyder space. Additionally, the large mass decay in this noncommutative setup is not necessarily exponential.
The relativistic Lorentz-covariant quantum space-times obtained by Snyder can be described by the coset generators of (anti) de-Sitter algebras. Similarly, the Lorentz-covariant quantum phase spaces introduced by Yang, which contain additionally quantum curved fourmomenta and quantum-deformed relativistic Heisenberg algebra, can be defined by suitably chosen coset generators of conformal algebras. We extend such algebraic construction to the respective superalgebras, which provide quantum Lorentz-covariant superspaces (SUSY Snyder model) and indicate also how to obtain the quantum relativistic…
A system of relativistic Snyder particles with mutual two-body interaction that lives in a Non-Commutative Snyder geometry is studied. The underlying novel symplectic structure is a coupled and extended version of (single particle) Snyder algebra. In a recent work by Casalbuoni and Gomis, Phys.Rev. D90, 026001 (2014), a system of interacting conventional particles (in commutative spacetime) was studied with special emphasis on it's Conformal Invariance. Proceeding along the same lines we have shown that our interacting Snyder particle model is also conformally invariant. Moreover, the conforma…
A metric with a Lorentz violating parameter is associated with the bumblebee gravity model. We study the motion of a particle in this bumblebee background where the dynamical variables satisfy non-canonical Snyder algebra along with some critical survey on the classical observations in the bumblebee background to see how these would likely differ from Schwarzschild background. It has been found that the perihelion shift acquires a generalized expression with two independent parameters. One of these two is connected with the Lorentz violating factor and the other is involved in the Snyder algeb…
Using the parametrized relativistic particle we obtain the noncommutative Snyder space-time. In addition, we study the consistency conditions between the boundary conditions and the canonical gauges that give origin to noncommutative theories. Using these results we construct a first order action, in the reduced phase-space, for the Snyder particle with momenta fixed on the boundary.
The Snyder model of a noncommutative geometry due to a minimal scale $\ell$, e.g. the Planck or the Compton scale, yields $\ell^2$-shift within the Einstein Hamiltonian constraint, and $γ^5$-term in the free Dirac equation violating CP symmetry manifestly. In this paper the Dirac equation is reconsidered. In fact, there is no any reasonable cause for modification of the Minkowski hyperbolic geometry of a momentum space. It is the consistency -- in physics phase space, spacetime (coordinates), and momentum space (dynamics) are independent mathematical structures. It is shown that the modified D…
A Snyder model generated by the noncommutative coordinates and Lorentz generators close a Lie algebra. The application of the Heisenberg double construction is investigated for the Snyder coordinates and momenta generators. It leads to the phase space of the Snyder model. Further, the extended Snyder algebra is constructed by using the Lorentz algebra, in one dimension higher. The dual pair of extended Snyder algebra and extended Snyder group is then formulated. Two Heisenberg doubles are considered, one with the conjugate tensorial momenta and another with the Lorentz matrices. Explicit formu…
We study a noncanonical Hilbert space representation of the polymer quantum mechanics. It is shown that Heisenberg algebra get some modifications in the constructed setup from which a generalized uncertainty principle will naturally come out. Although the extracted physical results are the same as those obtained from the standard canonical representation, the noncanonical representation may be notable in view of its possible connection with the generalized uncertainty theories suggested by string theory. In this regard, by considering an Snyder-deformed Heisenberg algebra we show that since th…
By defining a noncommutative symplectic structure, we study thermodynamics of Schwarzschild black hole in a Snyder noncommutative phase space for the first time. Since natural cutoffs are the results of compactness of symplectic manifolds in phase space, the physics of black holes in such a space would be affected mainly by these cutoffs. In this respect, this study provides a basis for more deeper understanding of the black hole thermodynamics in a pure mathematical viewpoint.
It has been pointed out that different choices of momenta can be associated to the same noncommutative spacetime model. The question of whether these momentum spaces, related by diffeomorphisms, produce the same physical predictions is still debated. In this work, we focus our attention on a few different momentum spaces that can be associated to the Galilean Snyder noncommutative spacetime model and show that they produce different predictions for the energy spectrum of the harmonic oscillator.
We discuss the generalisation of the Snyder model that includes all possible deformations of the Heisenberg algebra compatible with Lorentz invariance and investigate its properties. We calculate peturbatively the law of addition of momenta and the star product in the general case. We also undertake the construction of a scalar field theory on these noncommutative spaces showing that the free theory is equivalent to the commutative one, like in other models of noncommutative QFT.
We interpret, in the realm of relativistic quantum field theory, the tangential operator given by Coleman, Mandula as an appropriate coordinate operator. The investigation shows that the operator generates a Snyder-like noncommutative spacetime with a minimal length that is given by the mass. By using this operator to define a noncommutative spacetime, we obtain a Poincaré invariant noncommutative spacetime and in addition solve the soccer-ball problem. Moreover, from recent progress in deformation theory we extract the idea how to obtain, in a physical and mathematical well-defined manner, an…
In this work, we propose three different modified relativistic particles. In the first case, we propose a particle with metrics depending on the momenta and we show that the quantum version of these systems includes different field theories, as Lifshitz field theories. As a second case we propose a particle that implies a modified symplectic structure and we show that the quantum version of this system gives different noncommutative space-times, for example the Snyder space-time. In the third case, we combine both structures before mentioned, namely noncommutative space-times and momentum depe…
Long time ago, C.N. Yang proposed a model of noncommutative spacetime that generalized the Snyder model to a curved background. In this paper we review his proposal and the generalizations that have been suggested during the years. In particular, we discuss the most general algebras that contain as subalgebras both de Sitter and Snyder algebras, preserving Lorentz invariance, and are generated by a two-parameter deformation of the canonical Heisenberg algebra. We also define their realizations on quantum phase space, giving explicit examples, both exact and in terms of a perturbative expansion…
We present Lie-algebraic deformations of Minkowski space with undeformed Poincaré algebra. These deformations interpolate between Snyder and $κ$-Minkowski space. We find realizations of noncommutative coordinates in terms of commutative coordinates and derivatives. Invariants and tensors with respect to Lorentz algebra are discussed. A general mapping from $κ$-deformed Snyder to Snyder space is constructed. Deformed Leibniz rule, the coproduct structure and star product are found. Special cases, particularly Snyder and $κ$-Minkowski in Maggiore-type realizations are discussed.
We present Lie-algebraic deformations of Minkowski space with undeformed Poincaré algebra. These deformations interpolate between Snyder and $κ$-Minkowski space. We find realizations of noncommutative coordinates in terms of commutative coordinates and derivatives. By introducing modules, it is shown that although deformed and undeformed structures are not isomorphic at the level of vector spaces, they are however isomorphic at the level of Hopf algebraic action on corresponding modules. Invariants and tensors with respect to Lorentz algebra are discussed. A general mapping from $κ$-deformed S…
We introduce three space-times that are discrete in time and compatible with the Lorentz symmetry. We show that these spaces are no commutative, with commutation relations similar to the relations of the Snyder and Yang spaces. Furthermore, using a reparametrized relativistic particle we obtain a realization of the Snyder type spaces and we construct an action for them.
In this paper we study the Kepler problem in the non commutative Snyder scenario. We characterize the deformations in the Poisson bracket algebra under a mimic procedure from quantum standard formulations and taking into account a general recipe to build the noncommutative phase space coordinates (in the sense of Poisson brackets). We obtain an expression to the deformed potential, and then the consequences in the precession of the orbit of Mercury are calculated. This result allows us to find an estimated value for the non commutative deformation parameter introduced.
We examine some noncommutative spherically symmetric spaces in three space dimensions. A generalization of Snyder's noncommutative (Euclidean) space allows the inclusion of the generator of dilations into the defining algebra of the coordinate and rotation operators. We then construct a spherically symmetric noncommutative Laplacian on this space having the correct limiting spectrum. This is presented via a creation and annihilation operator realization of the algebra, which may lend itself to a truncation of the Hilbert space.
We discuss a generalisation of the Snyder model that includes all the possible deformations of the Heisenberg algebra compatible with Lorentz invariance, in terms of realisations of the noncommutative geometry. The corresponding deformed addition of momenta, the twist and the $R$-matrix are calculated to first order in the deformation parameters for all models. In the particular case of the Snyder realisation, the exact formula for the twist is obtained.
We present Lie-algebraic deformations of Minkowski space with undeformed Poincare algebra. These deformations interpolate between Snyder and kappa-Minkowski space. We find realizations of noncommutative coordinates in terms of commutative coordinates and derivatives. Deformed Leibniz rule, the coproduct structure and star product are found. Special cases, particularly Snyder and kappa-Minkowski in Maggiore-type realizations are discussed. Our construction leads to a new class of deformed special relativity theories.
In a recent paper, we have studied associative realizations of the noncommutative extended Snyder model, obtained by including the Lorentz generators (tensorial coordinates) and their conjugated momenta. In this paper, we extend this result to also incorporate a covariant realization of the $κ$-Poincaré spacetime. We obtain the coproduct, the associative star product and the twist in a Weyl-ordered realization, to first order in the noncommutativity parameters. This could help the construction of a quantum field theory based on this geometry.
When applied to some models of noncommutative geometry, the formalism of relative locality predicts the occurrence of a delay in the time of arrival of massless particle of different energies emitted by a distant observer. In this letter, we show that this is not the case with Snyder spacetime, essentially because the Lorentz invariance is not deformed in this case. This conclusion is in accordance with the findings of doubly special relativity. Distant observers may however measure different times of flight for massive particle.
We describe the deformed Poincare-conformal symmetries implying the covariance of the noncommutative space obeying Snyder's algebra. Relativistic particle models invariant under these deformed symmetries are presented. A gauge (reparametrisation) independent derivation of Snyder's algebra from such models is given. The algebraic transformations relating the deformed symmetries with the usual (undeformed) ones are provided. Finally, an alternative form of an action yielding Snyder's algebra is discussed where the mass of a relativistic particle gets identified with the inverse of the noncommuta…
A noncommutative geometry that preserves lorentz covariance was introduced by Hartland Snyder in 1947. We show that this geometry has unusual properties under momentum translation, and derive for it a form of star product.
Alternative approaches to the study of the quantum-gravity problem are handling the role of spacetime very differently. Some are focusing on the analysis of one or another novel formulation of "empty spacetime", postponing to later stages the introduction of particles and fields, while other approaches assume that spacetime should only be an emergent entity. We here argue that recent progress in the covariant formulation of quantum mechanics suggests that empty spacetime is not physically meaningful. We illustrate our general thesis in the specific context of the noncommutative Snyder spacetim…
The star product usually associated to the Snyder model of noncommutative geometry is nonassociative, and this property prevents the construction of a proper Hopf algebra. It is however possible to introduce a well-defined Hopf algebra by including the Lorentz generators and their conjugate momenta into the algebra. In this paper, we study the realizations of this extended Snyder spacetime, and obtain the coproduct and twist and the associative star product in a Weyl-ordered realization, to first order in the noncommutativity parameter. We then extend our results to the most general realizatio…
The noncommutative spacetimes associated to the $κ$-Poincaré relativistic symmetries and their "non-relativistic" (Galilei) and "ultra-relativistic" (Carroll) limits are indistinguishable, since their coordinates satisfy the same algebra. In this work, we show that the three quantum kinematical models can be differentiated when looking at the associated spaces of time-like worldlines. Specifically, we construct the noncommutative spaces of time-like geodesics with $κ$-Galilei and $κ$-Carroll symmetries as contractions of the corresponding $κ$-Poincaré space and we show that these three spaces …
An algebraic formulation is given for the embedded noncommutative spaces over the Moyal algebra developed in a geometric framework in \cite{CTZZ}. We explicitly construct the projective modules corresponding to the tangent bundles of the embedded noncommutative spaces, and recover from this algebraic formulation the metric, Levi-Civita connection and related curvatures, which were introduced geometrically in \cite{CTZZ}. Transformation rules for connections and curvatures under general coordinate changes are given. A bar involution on the Moyal algebra is discovered, and its consequences on th…
We construct the twist operator for the Snyder space. Our starting point is a non-associative star product related to a Hermitian realisation of the noncommutative coordinates originally introduced by Snyder. The corresponding coproduct of momenta is non-coassociative. The twist is constructed using a general definition of the star product in terms of a bi-differential operator in the Hopf algebroid approach. The result is given by a closed analytical expression. We prove that this twist reproduces the correct coproducts of the momenta and the Lorentz generators. The twisted Poincaré symmetry …
The Snyder-de Sitter (SdS) model which is invariant under the action of the de Sitter group, is an example of a noncommutative spacetime with three fundamental scales. In this paper, we considered the massless Dirac fermions in graphene layer in a curved Snyder spacetime which are subjected to an external magnetic field. We employed representation in the momentum space to derive the energy eigenvalues and the eigenfunctions of the system. Then, we used the deduced energy function obtaining the internal energy, heat capacity, and entropy functions. We investigated the role of the fundamental sc…
The Snyder model is an example of noncommutative spacetime admitting a fundamental length scale $β$ and invariant under Lorentz transformations, that can be interpreted as a realization of the doubly special relativity axioms. Here, we consider its nonrelativistic counterpart, i.e. the Snyder model restricted to three-dimensional Euclidean space. We discuss the classical and the quantum mechanics of a free particle in this framework, and show that they strongly depend on the sign of a coupling constant $λ$, appearing in the fundamental commutators and proportional to $β^2$. For example, if $λ$…
After recalling Snyder's idea of using vector fields over a smooth manifold as `coordinates on a noncommutative space', we discuss a two dimensional toy-model whose `dual' noncommutative coordinates form a Lie algebra: this is the well known $κ$-Minkowski space. We show how to improve Snyder's idea using the tools of quantum groups and noncommutative geometry. We find a natural representation of the coordinate algebra of $κ$-Minkowski as linear operators on an Hilbert space study its `spectral properties' and discuss how to obtain a Dirac operator for this space. We describe two Dirac operator…
We argue that the natural framework for embedding the ideas of deformed, or doubly, special relativity (DSR) into a curved spacetime is a generalisation of Einstein-Cartan theory, considered by Stelle and West. Instead of interpreting the noncommuting "spacetime coordinates" of the Snyder algebra as endowing spacetime with a fundamentally noncommutative structure, we are led to consider a connection with torsion in this framework. This may lead to the usual ambiguities in minimal coupling. We note that observable violations of charge conservation induced by torsion should happen on a time scal…
The Snyder-de Sitter (SdS) model is a generalization of the Snyder model to a spacetime background of constant curvature. It is an example of noncommutative spacetime admitting two fundamental scales besides the speed of light, and is invariant under the action of the de Sitter group. Here we consider its nonrelativistic counterpart, i.e. the Snyder model restricted to a three-dimensional sphere, and the related model obtained by considering the anti-Snyder model on a pseudosphere, that we call anti-Snyder-de Sitter (aSdS). By means of a nonlinear transformation relating the SdS phase space va…
We study the possibility of introducing the classical analogue of Snyder's Lorentz-covariant noncommutative space-time in two-time physics theory. In the free theory we find that this is possible because there is a broken local scale invariance of the action. When background gauge fields are present, they must satisfy certain conditions very similar to the ones first obtained by Dirac in 1936. These conditions preserve the local and global invariances of the action and leads to a Snyder space-time with background gauge fields.
We study the spectral geometry of the quantum projective plane CP^2_q, a deformation of the complex projective plane CP^2, the simplest example of a spin^c manifold which is not spin. In particular, we construct a Dirac operator D which gives a 0^+ summable spectral triple, equivariant under U_q(su(3)). The square of D is a central element for which left and right actions on spinors coincide, a fact that is exploited to compute explicitly its spectrum.
We study the statistical mechanics of a general Hamiltonian system in the context of symplectic structure of the corresponding phase space. This covariant formalism reveals some interesting correspondences between properties of the phase space and the associated statistical physics. While topology, as a global property, turns out to be related to the total number of microstates, the invariant measure which assigns {\it a priori} probability distribution over the microstates, is determined by the local form of the symplectic structure. As an example of a model for which the phase space has a no…
We present a universal Dirac operator for noncommutative spin and spin^c bundles over fuzzy complex projective spaces. We give an explicit construction of these bundles, which are described in terms of finite dimensional matrices, calculate the spectrum and explicitly exhibit the Dirac eigenspinors. To our knowledge the spin^c spectrum for CP^n with n>=3 is new.
This paper is concerned with the study of the geometry of determinant line bundles associated to families of spectral triples parametrized by the moduli space of gauge equivalent classes of Hermitian connections on a Hermitian finite projective module. We illustrate our results with some examples that arise in noncommutative geometry.
In confrontation with serious and fundamental problems towards ultimate theory of quantum gravity and physics of Planck scale, we emphasize the importance of underlying noncommutative space-time such as Snyder's or Yang's Lorentz-covariant quantized space-time. The background of Bekenstein-Hawking's Area-entropy law and Holographic principle is now substantially understood in terms of {\it Kinematical} Holographic Relation [KHR], which holds in Yang's quantized space-time as the result of the kinematical reduction of spatial degrees of freedom caused by its own nature of noncommutative geometr…
We study hybrid models arising as homological projective duals (HPD) of certain projective embeddings $f:X\rightarrow\mathbb{P}(V)$ of Fano manifolds $X$. More precisely, the category of B-branes of such hybrid models corresponds to the HPD category of the embedding $f$. B-branes on these hybrid models can be seen as global matrix factorizations over some compact space $B$ or, equivalently, as the derived category of the sheaf of $\mathcal{A}$-modules on $B$, where $\mathcal{A}$ is an $A_{\infty}$ algebra. This latter interpretation corresponds to a noncommutative resolution of $B$. We compute…
Recently N.Nekrasov and A.Schwarz proposed a modification of the ADHM construction of instantons which produces instantons on a noncommutative deformation of the 4-dimensional real affine space. In this paper we study the relation between their construction and algebraic bundles on noncommutative projective spaces. We exhibit one-to-one correspondences between three classes of objects: framed bundles on a noncommutative projective plane, certain complexes of sheaves on a noncommutative 3-dimensional projective space, and the modified ADHM data. The modified ADHM construction itself is interpre…
In this paper we apply a recently proposed algebraic theory of integration to projective group algebras. These structures have received some attention in connection with the compactification of the $M$ theory on noncommutative tori. This turns out to be an interesting field of applications, since the space $\hat G$ of the equivalence classes of the vector unitary irreducible representations of the group under examination becomes, in the projective case, a prototype of noncommuting spaces. For vector representations the algebraic integration is equivalent to integrate over $\hat G$. However, it…
We propose a general formulation of perturbative quantum field theory on (finitely generated) projective modules over noncommutative algebras. This is the analogue of scalar field theories with non-trivial topology in the noncommutative realm. We treat in detail the case of Heisenberg modules over noncommutative tori and show how these models can be understood as large rectangular pxq matrix models, in the limit p/q->theta, where theta is a possibly irrational number. We find out that the modele is highly sensitive to the number-theoretical aspect of theta and suffers from an UV/IR-mixing. We …
When considered as submanifolds of Euclidean space, the Riemannian geometry of the round sphere and the Clifford torus may be formulated in terms of Poisson algebraic expressions involving the embedding coordinates, and a central object is the projection operator, projecting tangent vectors in the ambient space onto the tangent space of the submanifold. In this note, we point out that there exist noncommutative analogues of these projection operators, which implies a very natural definition of noncommutative tangent spaces as particular projective modules. These modules carry an induced connec…
It was shown by A. Connes, M. Douglas and A. Schwarz that noncommutative tori arise naturally in consideration of toroidal compactifications of M(atrix) theory. A similar analysis of toroidal Z_{2} orbifolds leads to the algebra B_θ that can be defined as a crossed product of noncommutative torus and the group Z_{2}. Our paper is devoted to the study of projective modules over B_θ (Z_{2}-equivariant projective modules over a noncommutative torus). We analyze the Morita equivalence (duality) for B_θ algebras working out the two-dimensional case in detail.
