The general analytical solution for the static spherically symmetric metric supported by a perfect fluid with isothermal (proportional) equation-of-state $p = w ρ$ is not known at the time of this writing, except for the trivial cases $w=0$ and $w=-1$; and for $w=-1/3$. We show that if Buchdahl coordinates are used, the problem becomes analytically solvable for $w=-1/5$; display and discuss the solution(s), and exhibit the connection of this case to the $w=-1$ case.
The gravitational collapse of a barotropic perfect fluid having the Equation of State (EoS) $p=kρ$, where $k$ is constant, is studied here in the framework of general relativity. We examine the restrictions on the Misner-Sharp mass function, because of the introduction of such an EoS, in terms of the compatibility of a certain pair of quasi-linear partial differential equations, obtained from Einstein's field equations. We find that except when this system of PDEs reduces to ODEs because of additional symmetries imposed on the spacetimes, or when they become compatible with each other in some …
Within the scope of an anisotropic Bianchi type-VI cosmological model we have studied the evolution of the universe filled with perfect fluid and dark energy. To get the deterministic model of Universe, we assume that the shear scalar $(σ)$ in the model is proportional to expansion scalar $(\vartheta)$. This assumption allows only isotropic distribution of fluid. Exact solution to the corresponding equations are obtained. The EoS parameter for dark energy as well as deceleration parameter is found to be the time varying functions. Using the observational data qualitative picture of the evoluti…
In this paper, we consider the Universe at the late stage of its evolution and deep inside the cell of uniformity. At these scales, the Universe is filled with inhomogeneously distributed discrete structures (galaxies, groups and clusters of galaxies). Supposing that the Universe contains also the cosmological constant and a perfect fluid with a negative constant equation of state (EoS) parameter $ω$ (e.g., quintessence, phantom or frustrated network of topological defects), we investigate scalar perturbations of the FRW metrics due to inhomogeneities. Our analysis shows that, to be compatible…
The present work investigates the gravitational collapse of a perfect fluid in $f(R)$ gravity models. For a general $f(R)$ theory, it is shown analytically that a collapse is quite possible. The singularity formed as a result of the collapse is found to be a curvature singularity of shell focusing type. The possibility of the formation of an apparent horizon hiding the central singularity depends on the initial conditions.
This work contains a detailed qualitative analysis, in General Relativity and in Loop Quantum Cosmology, of the dynamics in the associated phase space of a scalar field minimally coupled with gravity, whose potential mimics the dynamics of a perfect fluid with a linear Equation of State (EoS). Dealing with the orbits (solutions) of the system, we will see that there are analytic ones, which lead to the same dynamics as the perfect fluid, and our goal is to check their stability, depending on the value of the EoS parameter, i.e., to show whether the other orbits converge or diverge to these ana…
The general solution of the field equations in LRS Bianchi-I space-time with perfect fluid equation-of-state (EoS) is presented. The models filled with dust, vacuum energy, Zel'dovich matter and disordered radiation are studied in detail. A unified and systematic treatment of the solutions is presented, and some new solutions are found. The dust, stiff matter and disordered radiation models describe only a decelerated universe, whereas the vacuum energy model exhibits a transition from a decelerated to an accelerated phase.
We study spherically symmetric gravitational collapse of a homogeneous perfect fluid in Rastall gravity. Considering a linear equation of state (EoS) for the fluid profiles, we examine the conditions under which the collapse scenario could end in a spacetime singularity. Depending on the model parameters, the singularity could be either naked or covered by a horizon. We find that a non-vanishing Rastall parameter could affect the formation of apparent horizon so that, naked singularities may form for those values of EoS parameter for which a homogeneous perfect fluid collapse in general relati…
Gravitational Collapse of Perfect Fluid in N-Dimensional Spherically Symmetric Spacetimes
The main purpose of the present paper is to investigate LRS Bianchi type I metric in the presence of perfect fluid and dark energy. In order to obtain a deterministic solution of the field equations we have assumed that, the two sources of the perfect fluid and dark energy interact minimally with separate conservation of their energy momentum tensors. The EoS parameter of the perfect fluid is also assumed to be constant. In addition to these we have used a special law of variation of Hubble parameter proposed by Berman that yields constant deceleration parameter. For two different values of th…
We study spherically-symmetric solutions in Massive Gravity generated by matter sources with polytropic equation of state. We concentrate in the non-perturbative regime where the mass term non-linearities are important, and present the main features of the solutions.
We study the complete gravitational collapse of a class of spherically symmetric inhomogeneous perfect fluid models obtained by introducing small radial perturbations in an otherwise homogeneous matter cloud. Our aim here is to study the genericity and stability of the formation of black holes and locally naked singularities in collapse. While the occurrence of naked singularities is known for many models of collapse, the key issue now in focus is genericity and stability of these outcomes. Towards this purpose, we study how the introduction of a somewhat general class of small inhomogeneities…
We investigate here the locally naked singularity formed due to a spherically symmetric inhomogeneous collapsing cloud having non-zero isotropic pressure, in terms of its strength. Sufficient condition provided by Clarke and Krolak for it to be Tipler strong has been used to restrict the parameters that represent the non-linear relation between the physical radius and the radial coordinate of the outgoing radial null geodesic at the singular center. Studying end state of a collapsing cloud requires information about the dynamics of collapse, which is unknown in a general scenario. Hence we stu…

We obtain a new exact solution to the field equations in the EGB modified theory of gravity for a 5-dimensional spherically symmetric static distribution. By using a transformation, the study is reduced to the analysis of a single second order nonlinear differential equation. In general the condition of pressure isotropy produces a first order differential equation which is an Abel equation of the second kind. An exact solution is found. The solution is examined for physical admissability. In particular a set of constants is found which ensures that a pressure-free hypersurface exists which de…
In this paper, we investigate spherically symmetric perfect fluid gravitational collapse in metric $f(R)$ gravity. We take non-static spherically symmetric metric in the interior region and static spherically symmetric metric in the exterior region of a star. The junction conditions between interior and exterior spacetimes are derived. The field equations in f(R) theory are solved using the assumption of constant Ricci scalar. Inserting their solution into junction conditions, the gravitational mass is found. Further, the apparent horizons and their time of formation is discussed. We conclude …
It is shown that an effective anisotropic spherically symmetric fluid model with heat flow can absorb the addition to a perfect fluid of pressure anisotropy, heat flow, bulk and shear viscosity, electric field and null fluid.
A phase space is built that allows to study, classify and compare easily large classes of static spherically symmetric wormholes solutions, sustained by an isotropic perfect fluid in General Relativity. We determine the possible locations of equilibrium points, throats and curvature singularities in this phase space. Throats locations show that the spatial variation of the gravitational redshift at the throat of a static spherically symmetric wormhole sustained by an isotropic perfect fluid is always diverging, generalising the result that there is no such wormhole with zero-tidal force. Sever…
We consider 5D brane world models with broken global 4D Poincar\a'{e} invariance (4D part of the spacetime metric is not conformal to the Minkowski spacetime). The bulk is filled with the negative cosmological constant and may contain a perfect fluid. In the case of empty bulk (the perfect fluid is absent), it is shown that one brane solution always has either a physical or a coordinate singularity in the bulk. We cut off these singularities in the case of compact two brane model and obtain regular exact solutions for both 4D Poincar\a'{e} broken and restored invariance. When the perfect fluid…
We investigate the field equations in the Einstein-aether theory for static spherically symmetric spacetimes and a perfect fluid source and subsequently with the addition of a scalar field (with an exponential self-interacting potential). We introduce more appropriate dynamical variables that facilitate the study of the equilibrium points of the resulting dynamical system and, in addition, we discuss the dynamics at infinity. We study the qualitative properties of the models with a particular interest in their asymptotic behaviour and whether they admit singularities. We also present a number …
In this paper, the effect of electromagnetic field has been investigated on the spherically symmetric collapse with the perfect fluid in the presence of positive cosmological constant. Junction conditions between the static exterior and non-static interior spherically symmetric spacetimes are discussed. We study the apparent horizons and their physical significance. It is found that electromagnetic field reduces the bound of cosmological constant by reducing the pressure and hence collapsing process is faster as compared to the perfect fluid case. This work gives the generalization of the perf…
In an accretion of fluid, its velocity may transit from subsonic to supersonic. The point at which such transition occurs is called sonic point and often mathematically special. We consider a steady-state and spherically symmetric accretion problem of ideal photon gas in general static spherically symmetric spacetime neglecting back reaction. Our main result is that the EOS of ideal photon gas leads to correspondence between its sonic point and the photon sphere of the spacetime in general situations. Despite of the dependence of the EOS on the dimension of spacetime, this correspondence holds…
Static spherically symmetric solutions of the Einstein's field equations in isotropic coordinates representing perfect fluid matter distributions from Newtonian potential-density pairs are investigated. The approach is illustrated with three simple examples based on the potential-density pairs corresponding to a harmonic oscillator (homogeneous sphere), the well-known Plummer model and a massive spherical dark matter halo model with a logarithmic potential. Moreover, the geodesic circular motion of test particles around such structures is studied. The stability of the orbits against radial per…
In this article, we provide a pedagogical review of the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff (TOV) equation and its solutions which describe static, spherically symmetric gaseous stars in general relativity. Our discussion starts with a systematic derivation of the TOV equation from the Einstein field equations and the relativistic Euler equations. Next, we give a proof for the existence and uniqueness of solutions of the TOV equation describing a star of finite radius, assuming suitable conditions on the equation of state characterizing the gas. We also prove that the compactness of the gas contained i…
The present paper deals with cylindrically symmetric metric in the form of Marder (1958) with Saez-Ballester theory of gravitation in the presence of perfect fluid and dark energy. In order to obtain the deterministic solution of the field equations we have assumed that the expansion scalar in the model is proportional to the Eigen value of the shear tensor. We have also assumed that the two sources, here the perfect fluid and dark energy interact minimally with separate conservative parts of their energy momentum tensors together with the constant EoS parameter of the perfect fluid. The role …
We have constructed a spherically symmetric structure model in a cosmological background filled with perfect fluid with non-vanishing pressure and studied its quasi-local characteristics. This is done by using the Lemaître solution of the Einstein equations and suggesting an algorithm to integrate it numerically. The result shows intriguing effects of the pressure inside the structure. The evolution of the central black hole within the FRW universe, its decoupling from the expanding parts of the model, the structure of its space-like apparent horizon, the limiting case of the dynamical horizon…
We investigate the master nonlinear partial differential equation that governs the evolution of shear-free spherically symmetric charged fluids. We use an approach which has not been considered previously for the underlying equation in shear-free spherically symmetric spacetimes. We derive a fifth order purely differential equation that must be satisfied for the underlying equation to admit a Lie point symmetry. We then perform a comprehensive analysis of this equation utilising the Lie symmetry analysis and direct integration. This enables us to reduce the fifth order equation to quadratures.…
