This paper is dedicated to team VAA's approach submitted to the Fashion-IQ challenge in CVPR 2020. Given a pair of the image and the text, we present a novel multimodal composition method, RTIC, that can effectively combine the text and the image modalities into a semantic space. We extract the image and the text features that are encoded by the CNNs and the sequential models (e.g., LSTM or GRU), respectively. To emphasize the meaning of the residual of the feature between the target and candidate, the RTIC is composed of N-blocks with channel-wise attention modules. Then, we add the encoded residual to the feature of the candidate image to obtain a synthesized feature. We also explored an ensemble strategy with variants of models and achieved a significant boost in performance comparing to the best single model. Finally, our approach achieved 2nd place in the Fashion-IQ 2020 Challenge with a test score of 48.02 on the leaderboard.
We present the instance segmentation and the object detection method used by team PFDet for Open Images Challenge 2019. We tackle a massive dataset size, huge class imbalance and federated annotations. Using this method, the team PFDet achieved 3rd and 4th place in the instance segmentation and the object detection track, respectively.

In this paper, we describe our solution to the Google Landmark Recognition 2019 Challenge held on Kaggle. Due to the large number of classes, noisy data, imbalanced class sizes, and the presence of a significant amount of distractors in the test set, our method is based mainly on retrieval techniques with both global and local CNN approaches. Our full pipeline, after ensembling the models and applying several steps of re-ranking strategies, scores 0.37606 GAP on the private leaderboard which won the 1st place in the competition.
We present a large-scale object detection system by team PFDet. Our system enables training with huge datasets using 512 GPUs, handles sparsely verified classes, and massive class imbalance. Using our method, we achieved 2nd place in the Google AI Open Images Object Detection Track 2018 on Kaggle.
In this paper, we introduce a data-efficient instance segmentation method we used in the 2021 VIPriors Instance Segmentation Challenge. Our solution is a modified version of Swin Transformer, based on the mmdetection which is a powerful toolbox. To solve the problem of lack of data, we utilize data augmentation including random flip and multiscale training to train our model. During inference, multiscale fusion is used to boost the performance. We only use a single GPU during the whole training and testing stages. In the end, our team achieved the result of 0.366 for AP@0.50:0.95 on the test s…

In this technical report, we present our solutions of Waymo Open Dataset (WOD) Challenge 2020 - 2D Object Track. We adopt FPN as our basic framework. Cascade RCNN, stacked PAFPN Neck and Double-Head are used for performance improvements. In order to handle the small object detection problem in WOD, we use very large image scales for both training and testing. Using our methods, our team RW-TSDet achieved the 1st place in the 2D Object Detection Track.
A practical autonomous driving system urges the need to reliably and accurately detect vehicles and persons. In this report, we introduce a state-of-the-art 2D object detection system for autonomous driving scenarios. Specifically, we integrate both popular two-stage detector and one-stage detector with anchor free fashion to yield a robust detection. Furthermore, we train multiple expert models and design a greedy version of the auto ensemble scheme that automatically merges detections from different models. Notably, our overall detection system achieves 70.28 L2 mAP on the Waymo Open Dataset…
This is a short technical report introducing the solution of Team Rat for Short-video Parsing Face Parsing Track of The 3rd Person in Context (PIC) Workshop and Challenge at CVPR 2021. In this report, we propose an Edge-Aware Network (EANet) that uses edge information to refine the segmentation edge. To further obtain the finer edge results, we introduce edge attention loss that only compute cross entropy on the edges, it can effectively reduce the classification error around edge and get more smooth boundary. Benefiting from the edge information and edge attention loss, the proposed EANet ach…

In this report, we present the technical details of our submission to the EPIC-KITCHENS-100 Unsupervised Domain Adaptation (UDA) Challenge for Action Recognition 2022. This task aims to adapt an action recognition model trained on a labeled source domain to an unlabeled target domain. To achieve this goal, we propose an action-aware domain adaptation framework that leverages the prior knowledge induced from the action recognition task during the adaptation. Specifically, we disentangle the source features into action-relevant features and action-irrelevant features using the learned action cla…
This report describes the technical details of our submission to the EPIC-Kitchens 2021 Unsupervised Domain Adaptation Challenge for Action Recognition. The EPIC-Kitchens dataset is more difficult than other video domain adaptation datasets due to multi-tasks with more modalities. Firstly, to participate in the challenge, we employ a transformer to capture the spatial information from each modality. Secondly, we employ a temporal attention module to model temporal-wise inter-dependency. Thirdly, we employ the adversarial domain adaptation network to learn the general features between labeled s…
We present our winning solution to the Open Images 2019 Visual Relationship challenge. This is the largest challenge of its kind to date with nearly 9 million training images. Challenge task consists of detecting objects and identifying relationships between them in complex scenes. Our solution has three stages, first object detection model is fine-tuned for the challenge classes using a novel weight transfer approach. Then, spatio-semantic and visual relationship models are trained on candidate object pairs. Finally, features and model predictions are combined to generate the final relationsh…

In this technical report, we briefly introduce the solution of our team "TAL-ai" for (Semi-) supervised Face detection in the low light condition in UG2+ Challenge in CVPR 2021. By conducting several experiments with popular image enhancement methods and image transfer methods, we pulled the low light image and the normal image to a more closer domain. And it is observed that using these data to training can achieve better performance. We also adapt several popular object detection frameworks, e.g., DetectoRS, Cascade-RCNN, and large backbone like Swin-transformer. Finally, we ensemble several…

We present Poly-GAN, a novel conditional GAN architecture that is motivated by Fashion Synthesis, an application where garments are automatically placed on images of human models at an arbitrary pose. Poly-GAN allows conditioning on multiple inputs and is suitable for many tasks, including image alignment, image stitching, and inpainting. Existing methods have a similar pipeline where three different networks are used to first align garments with the human pose, then perform stitching of the aligned garment and finally refine the results. Poly-GAN is the first instance where a common architect…

In this technical report, we present our 1st place solution for the ICDAR 2021 competition on mathematical formula detection (MFD). The MFD task has three key challenges including a large scale span, large variation of the ratio between height and width, and rich character set and mathematical expressions. Considering these challenges, we used Generalized Focal Loss (GFL), an anchor-free method, instead of the anchor-based method, and prove the Adaptive Training Sampling Strategy (ATSS) and proper Feature Pyramid Network (FPN) can well solve the important issue of scale variation. Meanwhile, w…

In this report, we present the technical details of our approach to the EPIC-KITCHENS-100 Unsupervised Domain Adaptation (UDA) Challenge for Action Recognition. The EPIC-KITCHENS-100 dataset consists of daily kitchen activities focusing on the interaction between human hands and their surrounding objects. It is very challenging to accurately recognize these fine-grained activities, due to the presence of distracting objects and visually similar action classes, especially in the unlabelled target domain. Based on an existing method for video domain adaptation, i.e., TA3N, we propose to learn ha…
