In this technical report, we present our solutions of Waymo Open Dataset (WOD) Challenge 2020 - 2D Object Track. We adopt FPN as our basic framework. Cascade RCNN, stacked PAFPN Neck and Double-Head are used for performance improvements. In order to handle the small object detection problem in WOD, we use very large image scales for both training and testing. Using our methods, our team RW-TSDet achieved the 1st place in the 2D Object Detection Track.
A practical autonomous driving system urges the need to reliably and accurately detect vehicles and persons. In this report, we introduce a state-of-the-art 2D object detection system for autonomous driving scenarios. Specifically, we integrate both popular two-stage detector and one-stage detector with anchor free fashion to yield a robust detection. Furthermore, we train multiple expert models and design a greedy version of the auto ensemble scheme that automatically merges detections from different models. Notably, our overall detection system achieves 70.28 L2 mAP on the Waymo Open Dataset…
In an autonomous driving system, it is essential to recognize vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists from images. Besides the high accuracy of the prediction, the requirement of real-time running brings new challenges for convolutional network models. In this report, we introduce a real-time method to detect the 2D objects from images. We aggregate several popular one-stage object detectors and train the models of variety input strategies independently, to yield better performance for accurate multi-scale detection of each category, especially for small objects. For model acceleration, we leverage…

3D object detectors usually rely on hand-crafted proxies, e.g., anchors or centers, and translate well-studied 2D frameworks to 3D. Thus, sparse voxel features need to be densified and processed by dense prediction heads, which inevitably costs extra computation. In this paper, we instead propose VoxelNext for fully sparse 3D object detection. Our core insight is to predict objects directly based on sparse voxel features, without relying on hand-crafted proxies. Our strong sparse convolutional network VoxelNeXt detects and tracks 3D objects through voxel features entirely. It is an elegant and…

Three-dimensional objects are commonly represented as 3D boxes in a point-cloud. This representation mimics the well-studied image-based 2D bounding-box detection but comes with additional challenges. Objects in a 3D world do not follow any particular orientation, and box-based detectors have difficulties enumerating all orientations or fitting an axis-aligned bounding box to rotated objects. In this paper, we instead propose to represent, detect, and track 3D objects as points. Our framework, CenterPoint, first detects centers of objects using a keypoint detector and regresses to other attrib…

We present an object detection framework based on PaddlePaddle. We put all the strategies together (multi-scale training, FPN, Cascade, Dcnv2, Non-local, libra loss) based on ResNet200-vd backbone. Our model score on public leaderboard comes to 0.6269 with single scale test. We proposed a new voting method called top-k voting-nms, based on the SoftNMS detection results. The voting method helps us merge all the models' results more easily and achieve 2nd place in the Google AI Open Images Object Detection Track 2019.

This technical report presents the 1st place winning solution for the Waymo Open Dataset 3D semantic segmentation challenge 2022. Our network, termed LidarMultiNet, unifies the major LiDAR perception tasks such as 3D semantic segmentation, object detection, and panoptic segmentation in a single framework. At the core of LidarMultiNet is a strong 3D voxel-based encoder-decoder network with a novel Global Context Pooling (GCP) module extracting global contextual features from a LiDAR frame to complement its local features. An optional second stage is proposed to refine the first-stage segmentati…
In this technical report, we introduce our winning solution "HorizonLiDAR3D" for the 3D detection track and the domain adaptation track in Waymo Open Dataset Challenge at CVPR 2020. Many existing 3D object detectors include prior-based anchor box design to account for different scales and aspect ratios and classes of objects, which limits its capability of generalization to a different dataset or domain and requires post-processing (e.g. Non-Maximum Suppression (NMS)). We proposed a one-stage, anchor-free and NMS-free 3D point cloud object detector AFDet, using object key-points to encode the …

OOD-CV challenge is an out-of-distribution generalization task. To solve this problem in object detection track, we propose a simple yet effective Generalize-then-Adapt (G&A) framework, which is composed of a two-stage domain generalization part and a one-stage domain adaptation part. The domain generalization part is implemented by a Supervised Model Pretraining stage using source data for model warm-up and a Weakly Semi-Supervised Model Pretraining stage using both source data with box-level label and auxiliary data (ImageNet-1K) with image-level label for performance boosting. The domain ad…
This report describes the winning solution to the Robust Vision Challenge (RVC) semantic segmentation track at ECCV 2022. This paper describes the approach we have taken in the challenge. We still adopted the two-stage scheme same as the last champion, that is, detection first and segmentation followed. We trained more powerful detector and segmentor separately. Besides, we also perform pseudo-label training on the test set, based on student-teacher framework and end-to-end transformer based object detection. The method ranks first on the 2nd Unidentified Video Objects (UVO) challenge, achieving AR@100 of 46.8, 64.7 and 32.2 in the limited data frame track, unlimited data frame track and video track respectively.
In autonomous driving, goal-based multi-trajectory prediction methods are proved to be effective recently, where they first score goal candidates, then select a final set of goals, and finally complete trajectories based on the selected goals. However, these methods usually involve goal predictions based on sparse predefined anchors. In this work, we propose an anchor-free model, named DenseTNT, which performs dense goal probability estimation for trajectory prediction. Our model achieves state-of-the-art performance, and ranks 1st on the Waymo Open Dataset Motion Prediction Challenge. Project…

In this technical report, we present our solution, dubbed MV-FCOS3D++, for the Camera-Only 3D Detection track in Waymo Open Dataset Challenge 2022. For multi-view camera-only 3D detection, methods based on bird-eye-view or 3D geometric representations can leverage the stereo cues from overlapped regions between adjacent views and directly perform 3D detection without hand-crafted post-processing. However, it lacks direct semantic supervision for 2D backbones, which can be complemented by pretraining simple monocular-based detectors. Our solution is a multi-view framework for 4D detection follo…
There have been two streams in the 3D detection from point clouds: single-stage methods and two-stage methods. While the former is more computationally efficient, the latter usually provides better detection accuracy. By carefully examining the two-stage approaches, we have found that if appropriately designed, the first stage can produce accurate box regression. In this scenario, the second stage mainly rescores the boxes such that the boxes with better localization get selected. From this observation, we have devised a single-stage anchor-free network that can fulfill these requirements. Thi…

The referring video object segmentation task (RVOS) aims to segment object instances in a given video referred by a language expression in all video frames. Due to the requirement of understanding cross-modal semantics within individual instances, this task is more challenging than the traditional semi-supervised video object segmentation where the ground truth object masks in the first frame are given. With the great achievement of Transformer in object detection and object segmentation, RVOS has been made remarkable progress where ReferFormer achieved the state-of-the-art performance. In thi…

Our architecture builds upon the top-down EfficientLPS panoptic segmentation approach. EfficientLPT consists of a shared backbone with a modified EfficientNet-B5 model comprising the proximity convolution module as the encoder followed by the range-aware FPN to aggregate semantically rich range-aware multi-scale features. Subsequently, we employ two task-specific heads, the scale-invariant semantic head and hybrid task cascade with feedbac…
In the field of autonomous driving, self-training is widely applied to mitigate distribution shifts in LiDAR-based 3D object detectors. This eliminates the need for expensive, high-quality labels whenever the environment changes (e.g., geographic location, sensor setup, weather condition). State-of-the-art self-training approaches, however, mostly ignore the temporal nature of autonomous driving data. To address this issue, we propose a flow-aware self-training method that enables unsupervised domain adaptation for 3D object detectors on continuous LiDAR point clouds. In order to get reliable …

The Waymo Open Dataset has been released recently, providing a platform to crowdsource some fundamental challenges for automated vehicles (AVs), such as 3D detection and tracking. While~the dataset provides a large amount of high-quality and multi-source driving information, people in academia are more interested in the underlying driving policy programmed in Waymo self-driving cars, which is inaccessible due to AV manufacturers' proprietary protection. Accordingly, academic researchers have to make various assumptions to implement AV components in their models or simulations, which may not re…
This paper introduces temporally local metrics for Multi-Object Tracking. These metrics are obtained by restricting existing metrics based on track matching to a finite temporal horizon, and provide new insight into the ability of trackers to maintain identity over time. Moreover, the horizon parameter offers a novel, meaningful mechanism by which to define the relative importance of detection and association, a common dilemma in applications where imperfect association is tolerable. It is shown that the historical Average Tracking Accuracy (ATA) metric exhibits superior sensitivity to associa…
3D multi-object tracking in LiDAR point clouds is a key ingredient for self-driving vehicles. Existing methods are predominantly based on the tracking-by-detection pipeline and inevitably require a heuristic matching step for the detection association. In this paper, we present SimTrack to simplify the hand-crafted tracking paradigm by proposing an end-to-end trainable model for joint detection and tracking from raw point clouds. Our key design is to predict the first-appear location of each object in a given snippet to get the tracking identity and then update the location based on motion est…
This is our second-place solution for CVPR 2022 SoccerNet Tracking Challenge. Our method mainly includes two steps: online short-term tracking using our Cascaded Buffer-IoU (C-BIoU) Tracker, and, offline long-term tracking using appearance feature and hierarchical clustering. At each step, online tracking yielded HOTA scores near 90, and offline tracking further improved HOTA scores to around 93.2.
Monocular image-based 3D perception has become an active research area in recent years owing to its applications in autonomous driving. Approaches to monocular 3D perception including detection and tracking, however, often yield inferior performance when compared to LiDAR-based techniques. Through systematic analysis, we identified that per-object depth estimation accuracy is a major factor bounding the performance. Motivated by this observation, we propose a multi-level fusion method that combines different representations (RGB and pseudo-LiDAR) and temporal information across multiple frames…

3D single object tracking (3D SOT) in LiDAR point clouds plays a crucial role in autonomous driving. Current approaches all follow the Siamese paradigm based on appearance matching. However, LiDAR point clouds are usually textureless and incomplete, which hinders effective appearance matching. Besides, previous methods greatly overlook the critical motion clues among targets. In this work, beyond 3D Siamese tracking, we introduce a motion-centric paradigm to handle 3D SOT from a new perspective. Following this paradigm, we propose a matching-free two-stage tracker M^2-Track. At the 1^st-stage,…

We propose a method for joint detection and tracking of multiple objects in 3D point clouds, a task conventionally treated as a two-step process comprising object detection followed by data association. Our method embeds both steps into a single end-to-end trainable network eliminating the dependency on external object detectors. Our model exploits temporal information employing multiple frames to detect objects and track them in a single network, thereby making it a utilitarian formulation for real-world scenarios. Computing affinity matrix by employing features similarity across consecutive …
