We study the possibility to directly detect the boosted dark matter generated from the scatterings with high energetic cosmic particles such as protons and electrons. As a concrete example, we consider the sub-GeV dark matter mediated by a $U(1)_D$ gauge boson which has mixing with $U(1)_Y$ gauge boson in the standard model. The enhanced kinetic energy of the light dark matter from the collision with the cosmic rays can recoil the target nucleus and electron in the underground direct detection experiments transferring enough energy to them to be detectable. We show the impact of BDM with existing direct detection experiments as well as collider and beam-dump experiments.
Direct detection experiments turn to lose sensitivity of searching for a sub-MeV light dark matter candidate due to the threshold of recoil energy. However, such light dark matter particles can be accelerated by energetic cosmic-rays such that they can be detected with existing detectors. We derive the constraints on the scattering of a boosted light dark matter and electron from the XENON100/1T experiment. We illustrate that the energy dependence of the cross section plays a crucial role in improving both the detection sensitivity and also the complementarity of direct detection and other exp…
We propose a new search channel for boosted dark matter (BDM) signals coming from the present universe, which are distinct from simple neutrino signals including those coming from the decay or pair-annihilation of dark matter. The signal process is initiated by the scattering of high-energetic BDM off either an electron or a nucleon. If the dark matter is dark-sector U(1)-charged, the scattered BDM may radiate a dark gauge boson (called "dark-strahlung") which subsequently decays to a Standard Model fermion pair. We point out that the existence of this channel may allow for the interpretation …
We present an atomic, molecular, and optical physics based method for the purpose of search for axial-vector mediated dipole-dipole interaction between electrons. In our scheme, applying a static magnetic field and a pump beam and a probe beam to a hybrid mechanical system composed of a nitrogen-vacancy center and a cantilever resonator, we could obtain a probe absorption spectrum. Based on the study of the relationship between this spectrum and the exotic dipole-dipole interaction, we put forward our detection principle and then provide a prospective constraint most stringent at a rough inter…
We consider the lepton-number-violating processes in $Λ_b$/$Λ_c$ decays mediated by on-shell GeV-scale sterile neutrino. We calculate the branching ratio for the following processes: $Λ_b^{0} \rightarrow \mathcal{B}^+ μ^{-}μ^- π^+$, where $\mathcal{B}^+$ is $Λ_c^+$ or proton, and $Λ_c^{+} \rightarrow Λμ^{+}μ^+ π^-$, as function of the mass of the sterile neutrino $m_N$ and the heavy-light mixing coefficient of the extended Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata (PMNS) matrix $|U_{μN}|^2$. The effect of finite detector size is included in our calculation. After comparing the theoretical effective bran…
In view of the fact that the $n = 1$ Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes in a model with a Universal Extra Dimension (UED), could mimic supersymmetry signatures at the LHC, it is necessary to look for the $n = 2$ KK modes, which have no analogues in supersymmetry. We discuss the possibility of searching for heavy $n = 2$ vector boson resonances -- especially the $g_2$ -- through their decays to a highly-boosted top quark-antiquark pair using recently-developed top-jet tagging techniques in the hadronic channel. It is shown that $t\bar{t}$ signals from the $n = 2$ gluon resonance are as efficient a discove…
A light stop around the weak scale is a hopeful messenger of natural supersymmetry (SUSY), but it has not shown up at the current stage of LHC. Such a situation raises the question of the fate of natural SUSY. Actually, a relatively light stop can easily be hidden in a compressed spectra such as mild mass degeneracy between stop and neutralino plus top quark. Searching for such a stop at the LHC is a challenge. On the other hand, in terms of the argument of natural SUSY, other members in the stop sector, including a heavier stop $\tilde{t}_2$ and lighter sbottom $\tilde{b}_1$ (both assumed to …
The conventional way to search for long-lived CHArged Massive Particles (CHAMPs) is to identify slow (small $β$) tracks using delayed time of flight and high ionization energy loss. But at the 7-14 TeV center of mass energy of the LHC, a CHAMP may be highly boosted (high $β$) and therefore look more like a minimum ionizing particle, while for high momentum muons (more than $\sim$500 GeV/c) the radiative effect dominates energy deposition. This suggests a new strategy to search for CHAMPs at the LHC. Using energy deposition from different detector components, we construct a boosted decision tre…
Just as Quantum Electrodynamics describes how electrons are bound in atoms by the electromagnetic force, mediated by exchange of photons, Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) describes how quarks are bound inside hadrons by the strong force, mediated by exchange of gluons. At face value, QCD allows hadrons constructed from increasingly many quarks to exist, just as atoms with increasing numbers of electrons exist, yet such complex constructions seemed, until recently, to not be present in nature. In what follows we describe advances in the spectroscopy of mesons that are refining our understanding of …
A review of supersymmetry theory and phenomenology is presented. Topics discussed include: gravity-mediated (SUGRA) and gauge-mediated (GMSB) supersymmetry breaking models; an overview of non-universal soft-supersymmetry-breaking masses and the resulting experimental implications; the phenomenology of and constraints on the possibility that a massive gluino is the lightest supersymmetric particle; current status of the phenomenology of the Higgs bosons of the minimal and next-to-minimal supersymmetric models; and, the signals for GMSB and/or R-parity-violating models coming from delayed decays…
The XENON1T excess of keV electron recoil events may be induced by the scattering of electrons and long-lived particles with MeV mass and high-speed. We consider a tangible model composed of two scalar MeV dark matter (DM) particles $S_A$ and $S_B$ to interpret the XENON1T keV excess via boosted $S_B$. A small mass splitting $m_{S_A}-m_{S_B}>0$ is introduced and the boosted $S_B$ can be produced by the dark annihilation process of $S_A S_A^\dagger \to ϕ\to S_B S_B^\dagger$ via a resonant scalar $ϕ$. The $S_B-$electron scattering is intermediated by a vector boson $X$. Although the constraints …
Electron positron collisions are a very promising environment to search for new physics, and in particular for dark sector related observables. The most challenging experimental problem in detecting dark sector candidates is the very high associated Standard Model background. For this reason it is important to identify observables that are, at the same time, minimally suppressed in the dark sector and highly suppressed in the Standard Model. One example is the $e^+ e^-\to 3(e^+e^-)$ process that can be mediated either by the production and subsequent decay of dark Higgs ($h'$), $e^+e^-\to A'h'…
Dark matter (DM) direct detection experiments have been setting strong limits on the DM-nucleon scattering cross section at the DM mass above a few GeV, but leave large parameter space unexplored in the low mass region. DM is likely to be scattered and boosted by relativistic cosmic rays in the expanding universe if it can generate nuclear recoils in direct detection experiments to offer observable signals. Since low energy threshold detectors using Germanium have provided good constraints on ordinary halo GeV-scale DM, it is necessary to re-analyze 102.8 kg$\times$day data in the CDEX-10 expe…
This paper presents a novel method of searching for boosted hadronically decaying objects by treating them as anomalous elements of a contaminated dataset. A Variational Recurrent Neural Network (VRNN) is used to model jets as sequences of constituent four-vectors. After applying a pre-processing method which boosts each jet to the same reference mass and energy, the VRNN provides each jet an Anomaly Score that distinguishes between the structure of signal and background jets. The model is trained in an entirely unsupervised setting and without high level variables, making the score more robus…
Neutrino interactions beyond the Standard Model (BSM) are theoretically well motivated and have an important impact on the future precision measurement of neutrino oscillation. In this work, we study the sensitivity of a multi-ton-scale liquid Xenon dark matter detector equipped with an intense radiative neutrino source to various BSM neutrino-electron interactions. We consider the conventional Non-Standard Interactions (NSIs), other more generalized four-fermion interactions including scalar and tensor forms, and light-boson mediated interactions. The work shows that with realistic experiment…
We propose to search for axion dark matter via the oscillating electric dipole moments that axions induce in atoms and molecules. These moments are produced through the intrinsic oscillating electric dipole moments of nucleons and through the $P,T$-violating nucleon-nucleon interaction mediated by pion exchange, both of which arise due to the axion-gluon coupling, and also directly through the axion-electron interaction. Axion dark matter may also be sought for through the spin-precession effects that axions produce by directly coupling to fermion spins.
The Minimal Supersymmetric Extension of the Standard Model (MSSM) is a well motivated theoretical framework, which contains an extended Higgs sector, including a light Higgs with Standard Model-like properties in most of the parameter space. Due to the large QCD background, searches for such a Higgs, decaying into a pair of bottom quarks, is very challenging at the LHC. It has been long realized that the situation may be ameliorated by searching for Higgs bosons in supersymmetric decay chains. Moreover, it has been recently suggested that the bobber decay channel may be observed in standard pr…
We study the heavy charged Higgs boson (from 800 GeV to 1500 GeV in this study) in production associated with a top quark at the LHC with the collision energy $\sqrt{s}=14$ TeV. Such a heavy charged Higgs boson can dominantly decay into a top quark and a bottom quark due to its large Yukawa couplings, like in MSSM. To suppress background events and to confirm the signal, we reconstruct the mass bumps of the heavy charged Higgs boson and the associated top quark. For this purpose, we propose a hybrid-R reconstruction method which utilizes the top tagging technique, a jet substructure technique …

Beyond-the-standard-model interactions mediated by an exchange of virtual "new" bosons result in a finite set of possible effective interaction potentials between standard-model particles such as electrons and nucleons. We discuss the classification of such potentials and briefly review recent experiments searching for such exotic interactions at spatial scales from sub-nanometers to tens of thousand kilometers.
Collider signals of dark photons are an exciting probe for new gauge forces and are characterized by events with boosted lepton jets. Existing techniques are efficient in searching for muonic lepton jets but due to substantial backgrounds have difficulty constraining lepton jets containing only electrons. This is unfortunate since upcoming intensity frontier experiments are sensitive to dark photon masses which only allow electron decays. Analyzing a recently proposed model of kinetic mixing, with new scalar particles decaying into dark photons, we find that existing techniques for electron je…
Many models containing particles which are candidates for dark matter, assume the standard model particles and the dark matter candidates are mediated by a spin-0 particle. At the LHC, one can use these models for dark matter searches. One of the possible approaches for the search of these models is by considering the decay of the spin-0 particle to a pair of $t\bar{t}$, thus modifying the pattern of the top quark pair invariant mass spectrum. This search suggests a good sensitivity in a parameter space different than the more traditional searches. We examine this sensitivity and put limits on…
The coming flavour precision era will allow to uncover various patterns of flavour violation in different New Physics scenarios. We discuss different classes of them. A simple extension of the Standard Model that generally introduces new sources of flavour and CP violation as well as right-handed currents is the addition of a U(1) gauge symmetry to the SM gauge group. In such Z' models correlations between various flavour observables emerge that could test and distinguish different Z' scenarios. A concrete model with flavour violating Z' couplings is the 331 model based on the gauge group SU(3…
The P2 experiment aims at high-precision measurements of the parity-violating asymmetry in elastic electron-proton and electron-$^{12}$C scatterings with longitudinally polarized electrons. We discuss here the sensitivity of P2 to new physics mediated by an additional neutral gauge boson $Z'$ of a new $U(1)'$ gauge symmetry. If the charge assignment of the $U(1)'$ is chiral, i.e., left- and right-handed fermions have different charges under $U(1)'$, additional parity-violation is induced directly. On the other hand, if the $U(1)'$ has a non-chiral charge assignment, additional parity-violation…
In models with extended Higgs sectors, Higgs-boson-mediated Lepton Flavour Violation (LFV) can naturally appear. We study the physics potential of an electron-photon collider %as an option of the International Linear Collider on searching LFV processes $e^-γ\to\ell^-φ(\ell=μ,τ; φ=H, A)$ where $H$ and $A$ are extra CP even and odd Higgs bosons, respectively, in the minimal supersymmetric standard model and the effective two Higgs doublet model. The production cross section can be significantly large for the maximal allowed values of the LFV coupling constants under the current experimental data…
The existence of Dark Matter (DM) is a well established fact since many decades, thanks to the observation of the effects of its gravitational interaction with the ordinary matter in the Universe. However, our knowledge of the Dark Matter features is still rather scarce. Indeed, one of the biggest quests in fundamental science today is the investigation of Dark Matter nature, from its origin to its composition, and the way its constituents interact with the ordinary matter, apart from gravity. Huge and ambitious efforts have been spent in the last years into its identification, concentrating e…
The search for relativistic scattering signals of cosmogenic light dark matter at terrestrial detectors has received increasing attention as an alternative approach to probe dark-sector physics. Large-volume neutrino experiments are well motivated for searches of dark matter that interacts very weakly with Standard Model particles and/or that exhibits a small incoming flux. We perform a dedicated signal sensitivity study for a detector similar to the one proposed by the DUNE Collaboration for cosmogenic dark-matter signals resulting from a non-minimal multi-particle dark-sector scenario. The l…
The quest for new physics beyond the Standard Model is boosted by the recently observed deviation in the anomalous magnetic moments of muon and electron from their respective theoretical prediction. In the present work, we have proposed a suitable extension of the minimal $L_μ-L_τ$ model to address these two experimental results as the minimal model is unable to provide any realistic solution. In our model, a new Yukawa interaction involving first generation of leptons, a singlet vector like fermion ($χ^{\pm}$) and a scalar (either an SU(2)$_{L}$ doublet $Φ^\prime_2$ or a complex singlet $Φ^\p…
A simple extension of the Standard Model consists of a scalar field that can potentially constitute the dark matter (DM). Significant attention has been devoted to probing light $\mathcal{O}(\lesssim 10~\rm{eV})$ scalar DM, with a multitude of experimental proposals based on condensed matter systems as well as novel materials. However, the previously overlooked effective in-medium mixing of light scalars with longitudinal plasmons can strongly modify the original sensitivity calculations of the direct detection experiments. We implement the in-medium effects for scalar DM detection, using ther…

In this work, we make a detailed discussion on the phenomenology of the scotogenic Dirac model, which could accommodate the Dirac neutrino mass and dark matter. We have studied the LFV processes in this model, which are mediated by the charged scalar $ϕ^\pm$ and heavy fermions $N_i$. The experimental bounds, especially given by decays $μ\to eγ$ and $μ\to 3e$, have put severe constraints on Yukawa $y_Φ$ and masses $m_{N1}$, $m_ϕ$. We select the heavy fermion $N_1$ as dark matter candidate and find the correct relic density is basically by annihilating through another Yukawa $y_χ$. After satisfy…
