We use the framework of asymptotically safe quantum gravity to derive predictions for scalar leptoquark solutions to the $b \to s$ and $b\to c$ flavor anomalies. The presence of an interactive UV fixed point in the system of gauge and Yukawa couplings imposes a set of boundary conditions at the Planck scale, which allows one to determine low-energy values of the leptoquark Yukawa matrix elements. As a consequence, the allowed leptoquark mass range can be significantly narrowed down. We find that a consistent gravity-driven solution to the $b\to s$ anomalies predicts a leptoquark with the mass of 4-7 TeV, entirely within the reach of a future hadron-hadron collider with $\sqrt{s}=100$ TeV. Conversely, in the case of the $b\to c$ anomalies the asymptotically safe gravity framework predicts a leptoquark mass at the edge of the current LHC bounds. Complementary signatures appear in flavor observables, namely the (semi)leptonic decays of B and D mesons and kaons.
Experimental hints for lepton flavor universality violation in beauty-quark decay both in neutral- and charged-current transitions require an extension of the Standard Model for which scalar leptoquarks (LQs) are the prime candidates. Besides, these same LQs can resolve the long-standing tension in the muon and the recently reported deviation in the electron $g-2$ anomalies. These tantalizing flavor anomalies have discrepancies in the range of $2.5σ-4.2σ$, indicating that the Standard Model of particle physics may finally be cracking. In this Letter, we propose a resolution to all these anomal…
The recent B-meson anomalies are coherently explained at the TeV scale by 4321 gauge models with hierarchical couplings reminiscent of the Standard Model Yukawas. We show that such models arise as the low-energy limit of a complete theory of flavor, based on a warped fifth dimension where each Standard Model family is quasi-localized in a different brane. The Higgs is identified as a pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson emerging from the same dynamics responsible for 4321 symmetry breaking. This novel construction unifies quarks and leptons in a flavor non-universal manner, provides a natural descript…
$B$-anomalies may suggest New Physics at the TeV scale breaking flavor universality. In particular, 4321 gauge models can successfully explain them in a consistent way. In this talk we explore how to UV complete the 4321 model in a 5D warped background to solve simultaneously the Higgs hierarchy problem too, finding interesting connections with the flavor puzzle. We present a model that addresses the $B$-anomalies, flavor hierarchies, and the Higgs hierarchy problem, where quarks and leptons are unified à la Pati-Salam in a non-universal way, and the Higgs appears as a pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone b…
We present a three-site Pati-Salam gauge model able to explain the Standard Model flavor hierarchies while, at the same time, accommodating the recent experimental hints of lepton-flavor non-universality in $B$ decays. The model is consistent with low- and high-energy bounds, and predicts a rich spectrum of new states at TeV scale that could be probed in the near future by the high-$p_T$ experiments at the LHC.
Partial compositeness is a key ingredient of models where the electroweak symmetry is broken by a composite Higgs state. Recently, a UV completion of partial compositeness was proposed, featuring a new strongly coupled gauge interaction as well as new fundamental fermions and scalars. We work out the full flavor structure of the minimal realization of this idea and investigate in detail the consequences for flavor physics. While CP violation in kaon mixing represents a significant constraint on the model, we find many viable parameter points passing all precision tests. We also demonstrate tha…
Significant deviations from Standard Model (SM) predictions have been observed in $ b \to s μ^+ μ^-$ decays and in the muon $g-2$. Scalar leptoquark extensions of the SM are known to be able to address these anomalies, but generically give rise to lepton flavor violation (LFV) or even proton decay. We propose new muon flavored gauge symmetries as a guiding principle for leptoquark models that preserve the global symmetries of the SM and explain the non-observation of LFV. A minimal model is shown to easily accommodate the anomalies without encountering other experimental constraints. This talk…
So-called 4321 gauge models at the TeV scale with hierarchical couplings reminiscent of the Standard Model Yukawas offer a coherent combined explanation of the recent $B$-meson anomalies. In these proceedings, based on arXiv:2203.01952, we discuss how such models could arise from a multi-scale theory of flavor, based on a warped fifth dimension with three branes. This higher dimensional construction provides a natural description of flavor hierarchies, addresses the electroweak hierarchy problem, and allows for the Higgs to be identified as a pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson emerging from the same…
Taking advantage of the fact that the flavor of the neutrino in semileptonic $B$ decays $B\to D^{(*)}τν$ is not known, we show how a minimal set of higher-dimensional lepton flavor violating (LFV) operators can explain the $R(D^{(*)})$ anomalies, and as a spin-off, can give rise to the LFV decay of the Higgs boson, $h\toμτ$. We also show how none but the minimal set of operators survive the present data.
Vector leptoquarks provide an elegant solution to a series of anomalies and at the same time generate naturally light neutrino masses through their mixing with the standard model Higgs boson. We present a simple Froggatt-Nielsen model to accommodate the B physics anomalies $R_K$ and $R_D$, neutrino masses, and the $750$ GeV diphoton excess in one cohesive framework adding only two vector leptoquarks and two singlet scalar fields to the standard model field content.
In recent years, several observables associated to semileptonic $b \to s$ processes have been found to depart from their predicted values in the Standard Model, including a few tantalizing hints of lepton flavor universality violation. In this work we consider an existing model with a massive $Z^\prime$ boson that addresses the anomalies in $b \to s$ transitions and extend it with a non-trivial embedding of neutrino masses. We analyze lepton flavor violating effects, induced by the non-universal interaction associated to the $b \to s$ anomalies and by the new physics associated to the neutrino…
We consider an anomaly-free $U(1)'$ model with favorable couplings to heavy flavors in the Standard Model(SM), as motivated by $B$-meson anomalies at LHCb. Taking the $U(1)'$ charge to be $Q'=y(L_μ-L_τ)+ x(B_3-L_3)$, we can explain the $B$-meson anomalies without invoking extra charged fermions or flavor violation beyond the SM. We show that there is a viable parameter space with a small $x$ that is compatible with other meson decays, tau lepton and neutrino experiments as well as the LHC dimuon searches. We briefly discuss the prospects of discovering the $Z'$ gauge boson at the LHC in the pr…
Leptoquarks have been suggested to solve a variety of discrepancies between the expected and observed phenomenon. In this paper, we show that the scalar doublet Leptoquark with Hypercharge 7/6 can simultaneously explain the recent measurement of $R_{K}$, $R_{K^*}$, the excess in anomalous magnetic moment of muon, and the observed excess in IceCube HESE data. For appropriate choice of couplings, the flavor anomalies are generated at one-loop level and IceCube data is explained via resonant production of the Leptoquark. Several constraints from LHC searches are imposed on the model parameter spa…
In this paper, we consider a solution to explain the three discrepancies with the standard model (SM) predictions in flavor observables, i.e. anomalies in $B\rightarrow K^\astμ^+μ^-$ and $R_K=\mathcal{B}(B\rightarrow Kμ^+μ^-)/\mathcal{B}(B\rightarrow K e^+e^-)$ at the LHCb and an excess in $h\rightarrow μτ$ at the CMS in the context of R-parity violating (RPV) supersymmetry. We demonstrate that these anomalies can be explained within a unified framework: the minimal supersymmetry model (MSSM) extended with $5+\overline{5}$ vectorlike (VL) particles. The new trilinear RPV couplings involving VL…
If the leptoquarks proposed to account for the intriguing anomalies observed in the $B$-meson decays, $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ and $R_{K^{(\ast)}}$, as well as in the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, $(g-2)_μ$, can be embedded into the scotogenic Dirac neutrino model, all these flavor anomalies, together with the origin of neutrino masses and the nature of dark matter, would be potentially addressed in a unified picture. Among the minimal seesaw, one-loop, and two-loop realizations of the dimension-4 effective operator $\mathcal{L}_{4}$ for the Dirac neutrino masses, we show that plenty of diagr…
The lepton sector of the Standard Model is at present haunted by several intriguing anomalies, including an emerging pattern of deviations in $b \to s \ell \ell$ processes, with hints of lepton flavor universality violation, and a discrepancy in the muon anomalous magnetic moment. More importantly, it cannot explain neutrino oscillation data, which necessarily imply the existence of non-zero neutrino masses and lepton mixings. We propose a model that accommodates all the aforecited anomalies, induces neutrino masses and provides a testable dark matter candidate. This is achieved by introducing…
We analyse the recent hints of Lepton Flavor Universality violations in semi-leptonic $B$ decays within a general EFT based on a $U(2)^n$ flavor symmetry acting on the light generations of SM fermions. We analyse in particular the consistency of these anomalies with the tight constraints on various low-energy observables in $B$ and $τ$ physics. We show that, with a moderate fine-tuning, a consistent picture for all low-energy observables can be obtained under the additional dynamical assumption that the NP sector is coupled preferentially to third generation SM fermions. We discuss how this dy…
Flavor symmetries that explain masses and mixings of the standard model fermions dictate flavor patterns for the couplings of scalar and vector leptoquarks to the standard model fermions. A generic feature is that couplings to $SU(2)$-doublet leptons are suppressed at least by one spurion of the discrete non-abelian symmetry breaking, responsible for neutrino mixing, while couplings to charged lepton singlets can be order one. We obtain testable patterns including those that predominantly couple to a single lepton flavor, or two, or in a skewed way. They induce lepton non-universality, which w…
By allowing gauge anomaly cancellation between fermions in different families we find a non-universal solution for a $Z'$ family of models with the same content of fermions of the standard model plus three right-handed neutrinos. We also impose constraints from the Yukawa interaction terms in such a way that at the end we obtain a solution with six free parameters. Our solution contains as particular cases well-known models in the literature. As an application, we report a model that evades LHC constraints, flavor changing neutral currents and low energy constraints. Simultaneously, the model …
The anomalies recently found by the LHCb collaboration in $B$-meson decays seem to point towards the existence of new physics coupled non-universally to muons and electrons. We show that a beyond-the-Standard-Model dynamics with these features naturally arises in models with a warped extra-dimension that aim to solve the electroweak Hierarchy Problem. The attractiveness of our set-up is the fact that the dynamics responsible for generating the flavor anomalies is automatically present, being provided by the massive Kaluza--Klein excitations of the electroweak gauge bosons. The flavor anomalies…
We address the $B$-physics anomalies within a two scalar leptoquark model. The low-energy flavor structure of our set-up originates from two $SU(5)$ operators that relate Yukawa couplings of the two leptoquarks. The proposed scenario has a UV completion, can accommodate all measured lepton flavor universality ratios in $B$-meson decays, is consistent with related flavor observables, and is compatible with direct searches at the LHC. We provide prospects for future discoveries of the two light leptoquarks at the LHC and predict several yet-to-be-measured flavor observables.
We argue that the diphoton excess recently reported by ATLAS and CMS can be explained, along with several anomalies seen in the flavor sector, in models where a Standard-Model singlet scalar resonance with mass $M \approx 750$ GeV is produced in gluon fusion via loops containing a scalar color- triplet leptoquark $ϕ$. For a leptoquark mass $M_ϕ\lesssim$ 1 TeV, the production cross section is naturally in the 10 fb range. A large $S \to γγ$ branching ratio can be obtained by coupling the scalar S to new color-singlet fermions $χ$ with electroweak scale masses, which can be part of an $SU(2)_L$ …
We consider a simple extension of the Standard Model with flavor-dependent $U(1)'$, that has been proposed to explain some of $B$-meson anomalies recently reported at LHCb. The $U(1)'$ charge is chosen as a linear combination of anomaly-free $B_3-L_3$ and $L_μ-L_τ$. In this model, the flavor structure in the SM is restricted due to flavor-dependent $U(1)'$ charges, in particular, quark mixings are induced by a small vacuum expectation value of the extra Higgs doublet. As a result, it is natural to get sizable flavor-violating Yukawa couplings of heavy Higgs bosons involving the bottom quark. I…
We propose a model with flavor dependent gauged symmetries of $\displaystyle \prod_{i=1}^3 U(1)_{B_i-L_i}$ with $i$ the family indices. After formulating the renormalizable Yukawa Lagrangian, Higgs potential and kinetic term, we study the lepton sector based on a successful two-zero texture without introducing extra scalar bosons to avoid the dangerous Goldstone bosons. In particular, we discuss the muon related phenomenologies via additional neutral gauge bosons. In our numerical analysis, we explore the allowed parameter space, in which the anomaly of $B \to K^* \bar μμ$ can be explained.
Motivated by the flavor anomalies in $b \to s$ transitions, we embed minimal models with a $Z'$ gauge boson, vector-like fermions, and a singlet scalar in the framework of trans-Planckian asymptotic safety. The presence of a fixed point in the renormalization group flow of the models' parameters leads to predictions for the $γ/Z'$ kinetic mixing, the New Physics Yukawa couplings, and the quartic couplings of the scalar potential. We derive the constraint on the kinetic mixing from the most recent high-mass dilepton resonance searches at the LHC, showing that this bound is often inescapable in …
This paper reviews the recent progresses of the flavor and collider searches that can probe New Physics effects responsible for the current discrepancy in the lepton flavor universality ratio of $R_{D^{(*)}}$ between the experimental measurements and SM values.
The muon $g-2$ anomaly is a long-standing discrepancy from its standard model prediction. The recent improved measurement of the fine structure constant makes the electron $g-2$ anomaly very interesting for both sign and magnitude in comparison to the muon $g-2$ anomaly. In order to explain both muon and electron $g-2$ anomalies, we introduce flavor violation in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) as a low energy theory. The lepton flavor violating process $τ\to eγ$ is one the major constraints to explain both $g-2$ anomalies simultaneously emerging from flavor violating terms. We…
Motivated by the recent LHCb announcement of a $3.1σ$ violation of lepton-flavor universality in the ratio $R_K=Γ(B\to Kμ^+μ^-)/Γ(B\to K e^+ e^-)$, we present an updated, comprehensive analysis of the flavor anomalies seen in both neutral-current ($b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$) and charged-current ($b\to cτ\barν$) decays of $B$ mesons. Our study starts from a model-independent effective field-theory approach and then considers both a simplified model and a UV-complete extension of the Standard Model featuring a vector leptoquark $U_1$ as the main mediator of the anomalies. We show that the new LHCb dat…
We consider new physics explanations of the anomaly in the top quark forward-backward asymmetry measured at the Tevatron, in the context of flavor conserving models. The recently measured LHC dijet distributions strongly constrain many otherwise viable models. A new scalar particle in the antitriplet representation of flavor and color can fit the t tbar asymmetry and cross section data at the Tevatron and avoid both low- and high-energy bounds from flavor physics and the LHC. An s-channel resonance in uc to uc scattering at the LHC is predicted to be not far from the current sensitivity. This …
We make a comprehensive study of vector-like fermionic dark matter and flavor anomalies in a simple extension of standard model. The model is added with doublet vector-like fermions of quark and lepton types, and also a $S_1(\bar{\textbf{3}},\textbf{1},1/3)$ scalar leptoquark. An additional lepton type singlet fermion is included, whose admixture with vector-like lepton doublet plays the role of dark matter and is examined in relic density and direct detection perspective. Electroweak precision observables are computed to put constraint on model parameter space. We constrain the new couplings …
Extant anomalies in several semileptonic $B$-meson decays argue for physics beyond the Standard Model. Measurements of both neutral-current decays (such as $R_K$, $R_{K^*}$ and $B_s\rightarrow ϕμμ$) as well as charged-current ones- $R(D)$ and $R(D^*)$ -provide strong hints for the violation of lepton flavor universality. Recent studies have shown that a class of effective field theory (EFT) models may explain such anomalies in terms of only a few parameters which can be determined phenomenologically. In this literature, we examine such resolutions in the context of the requisite $(\bar{s}$ $b$…
We assume that the quark-flavor coefficients matrix of the semileptonic operators addressing the neutral-current B-meson anomalies has rank-one, i.e. it can be described by a single vector in quark-flavor space. By correlating the observed anomalies to other flavor and high-$p_T$ observables, we constrain its possible directions and we show that a large region of the parameter space of this framework will be explored by flavor data from the NA62, KOTO, LHCb and Belle II experiments.
The muon $(g-2)_μ$ and $b\to s \bar μμ$ induced $B$ anomalies as hints of new physics beyond the standard model (SM) have attracted much attention. These two anomalies indicate that there may exist new interaction specifically related to muon. A lot of theoretical ideas have been proposed to explain these anomalies. Gauged flavor specific $U(1)_{B_q-L_μ}$ is among the promising ones. The new gauge boson $Z'$ from $U(1)_{B_q-L_μ}$ interacts with muon and provides necessary ingredient to solve the $(g-2)_μ$ anomaly. The $Z'$-quark coupling can generate flavor changing interactions after diagonal…
Leptoquarks with masses at the TeV scale have been proposed as possible solutions to flavor anomalies reported in the b-flavor sector. Based on data taken in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13\,\mathrm{TeV}$ at the LHC, different leptoquark flavors can be probed in various final states. In this article, the results of direct searches for single and pair production of leptoquarks conducted by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations are summarized.
Composite Higgs models (CHMs) offer an elegant solution to the naturalness problem of the Standard Model (SM). Their direct effects at particle colliders like the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are thus of central interest. While no direct effects have been observed so far, there are recent indirect hints for new physics (NP) coming from measurements of rare B meson decays. This thesis studies direct collider constraints on CHMs as well as the question if these models can explain the hints for NP in rare B decays. The first part of this thesis gives a self-contained introduction to all main conce…
Several experiments revealed intriguing hints for lepton flavor universality (LFU) violating new physics (NP) in semi-leptonic $B$ meson decays, mainly in $b \to c τν$ and $b \to s \ell^+ \ell^-$ transitions at the $3-5\,σ$ level. Leptoquarks (LQ) are prime candidates to address these anomalies as they contribute to semi-leptonic decays already at tree level while effects in other flavor observables, agreeing with the standard model (SM), are loop suppressed. In these proceedings we review the vector leptoquark $SU(2)_L$ singlet, contained in the famous Pati-Salam model, which is able to addre…
We study the recently found anomalies in $B$-meson decays within a scenario with a warped extra dimension where the Standard Model fermions are propagating in the bulk. The anomalies are then interpreted as the result of the exchange of heavy vector resonances with electroweak quantum numbers. The model naturally leads to lepton-flavor universality violation when different flavor fermions are differently localized along the extra dimension, signaling a different degree of compositeness in the dual holographic theory.
The ANITA experiment has seen anomalous Earth emergent showers of EeV energies which cannot be explained with Standard Model interactions. In addition, tests of lepton flavor universality in $ R(D^{(\ast)})$ and $R(K^{(\ast)})$ have shown significant deviations from theoretical predictions. It is known that, among single leptoquark solutions, only the chiral vector leptoquark $U_1 \sim (\mathbf{3}, \mathbf{1} , 2/3)$ can simultaneously address the discrepancies. In this paper, we show that the leptoquark motivated by flavor anomalies coupled to a sterile neutrino can also explain the ANITA Ano…
The formalism for neutrino flavor change induced by lepton family number violating interactions is developed for the three-neutrino case, and used to derive the corresponding flavor change probabilities in matter. Applied to the solar and atmospheric neutrino fluxes, it is argued that the observed anomalies, including the zenith dependence for the atmospheric case, could be due to such interactions.
We propose a simple model to simultaneously explain four observed flavor anomalies while generating the neutrino mass at the one-loop level. Specifically, we address the measured anomalous magnetic dipole moments of the muon, $Δa_μ$ , and electron, $Δa_e$, the observed anomaly of $b\rightarrow s l^+ l^-$ in the $B$-meson decays, and the Cabibbo-angle anomaly. The model consists of four colorful new degrees of freedom: three scalar leptoquarks with the Standard Model quantum numbers $(3,3,-1/3),(3,2,1/6)$, and $(3,1,2/3)$, and one pair of down-quark-like vector fermion in $(3,1,-1/3)$. The bary…
We show that one can explain the neutral and charged anomalies in B-meson decays in the minimal theory for quark-lepton unification. The implications for flavor violating processes are discussed in detail. Strikingly, experimental observations suggest that the unification of quarks and leptons could be realized below the ${\cal O}(10^2)$ TeV scale.
A possibility of explaining the anomalies in the semileptonic $B$-meson decay $B \to K^{*} μ\barμ$ has been explored in the framework of the gauged $U(1)_{μ-τ}$ symmetry. Apart from the muon anomalous magnetic moment and neutrino sector, we formulate the model starting with a valid Lagrangian and consider the constraints from the neutral meson mixings, the bounds on direct detection and the relic density of the bosonic dark matter candidate augmented to collider constraints. We search the parameter space, which accommodates the size of the anomaly of the $B \rightarrow K^* μ\bar μ$ decay, to s…
We propose a generation dependent lepton/baryon gauge symmetry, $U(1)_{B_3 - x_μL_μ- x_τL_τ} \equiv U(1)_X$ (with $x_μ+ x_τ=1$ for anomaly cancellation), as a possible solution for the $b \rightarrow s μ^+ μ^-$ anomalies. By introducing two Higgs doublet fields, we can reproduce the observed CKM matrix, and generate flavor changing $Z'$ interactions in the quark sector. Thus one can explain observed anomalies in $b \to s \ell^+ \ell^-$ decay with the lepton non-universal $U(1)_X$ charge assignments. We show the minimal setup explaining $b \to s \ell^+ \ell^-$ anomalies, neutrino masses and mix…
We address the presently reported significant flavor anomalies in the Kaon and $B$ meson systems such as the CP violating Kaon decay ($ε'/ε$) and lepton-flavor universality violation in $B$ meson decays ($R_{K^{(*)}},{R_{D^{(*)}}}$), by proposing flavorful and chiral vector bosons as the new physics constitution at around TeV scale. The chiral-flavorful vectors (CFVs) are introduced as a 63-plet of the global $SU(8)$ symmetry, identified as the one-family symmetry for left-handed quarks and leptons in the standard model (SM) forming the 8-dimensional vector. Thus the CFVs include massive gluon…
We review the status of the solutions to neutrino anomalies by flavor-changing as well as flavor-diagonal neutrino interactions. While it is difficult to explain the atmospheric neutrino data the solar neutrino data can be well accounted for by the massless neutrino oscillation induced by such non-standard neutrino interactions. We also discuss the possibility to test such kind of interactions by the future neutrino oscillation experiments at neutrino factories.
We propose a predictive radiative seesaw model at one-loop level with a flavor dependent gauge symmetry $U(1)_{xB_3-xe-μ+τ}$ and Majorana fermion dark matter. For the neutrino mass matrix, we obtain an $A_1$ type texture (with two zeros) that provides us several predictions such as the normal ordering for the neutrino masses. We analyze the constraints from lepton flavor violations, relic density of dark matter, and collider physics for the new $U(1)_{xB_3-xe-μ+τ}$ gauge boson. Within the allowed region, the LHCb anomalies in $B\rightarrow K^* μ^+ μ^-$ and $B\rightarrow K \ell^+ \ell^-$ with $…
We analyze the class of models with an extra $U(1)_X$ gauge symmetry that can account for the $b \to s \ell \ell$ anomalies by modifying the Wilson coefficients $C_{9e}$ and $C_{9μ}$ from their standard model values. At the same time, these models generate appropriate quark mixing, and give rise to neutrino mixing via the Type-I seesaw mechanism. Apart from the gauge boson $Z'$, these frugal models only have three right-handed neutrinos for the seesaw mechanism, an additional $SU(2)_L$ scalar doublet for quark mixing, and a SM-singlet scalar that breaks the $U(1)_X$ symmetry. This set-up ident…
In this work, we present a solution to the persistent tensions in the decay observables $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ and $R_{K^{(\ast)}}$ by introducing a $SU(2)_L$ doublet and a $SU(2)_L$ triplet scalar leptoquarks (LQs) that reside at the TeV energy scale. Neutrinos that remain massless in the Standard Model receive naturally small masses at one-loop level via the propagation of the same LQs inside the loop. Such a common origin of apparently disjoint phenomenological observations is appealing, and we perform a comprehensive analysis of this set-up. We identify the minimal Yukawa textures required to ac…
In this work we study possible connections between $B$-meson anomalies and Kaon physics observables in the context of combined solutions with the singlet and triplet scalar leptoquarks $S_1$ and $S_3$. By assuming a flavor structure for the leptoquark couplings dictated by a minimally broken $U(2)^5$ flavor symmetry we can make a sharp connection between these two classes of observables. We find that the bound on $\mathcal{B}(K^+ \rightarrow π^+ νν)$ from NA62 puts already some tension in the model, while the present limits on $\mathcal{B}(K_L \rightarrow μ^+ μ^-)$ and $μ\to e$ conversion in n…
Motivated by flavor non-universality and anomalies in semi-leptonic B-meson decays, we present a general and systematic discussion about how to construct anomaly-free $U(1)'$ gauge theories based on an extended standard model with only three right-handed neutrinos. If all standard model fermions are vector-like under this new gauge symmetry, the most general family non-universal charge assignments, $(a,b,c)$ for three-generation quarks and $(d,e,f)$ for leptons, need satisfy just one condition to be anomaly-free, $3(a+b+c)=-(d+e+f)$. Any assignment can be linear combinations of five independen…
The existing anomalies appearing in decays of the form $b\to s \ell^+ \ell^-$ constitute a possible hint for new physics. We point out that modifications to the SM results due to heavy neutrinos could account for the observed deviations while satisfying existing constraints from lepton flavor violating processes. The required mixing angle, however, is an order of magnitude larger than suggested by recent global fits to lepton flavor conserving processes. We frame our discussion in terms of a Type-I seesaw model, but it can be made more general.
The flavor changing decays of heavy bottom quarks to the corresponding lighter quarks ($u$, $c$ and $s$) in various $B$-meson decays via charged current and neutral current semileptonic transitions have emerged as promising candidates to explore the physics beyond the standard model. Experimentally the lepton flavor universality violation in $b \to (c,u)\,l\,ν$ and $b \to s\,l^+ l^-$ transitions have been reported to a higher precision. The measurements of the lepton flavor violating ratios such as $R_{D^{(*)}}$, $R_{J/Ψ}$ and $R_{K^{(*)}}$ are observed to deviate from the standard model expec…
We explore a class of models which can provide a common origin for the recently observed evidence for lepton flavor universality violation in $b \to s l^+ l^- $ decays, the dark matter (DM) problem and the long-standing muon $(g-2)$ anomaly. In particular, both anomalies in the $B$ meson decays and the muon $(g-2)$ can be explained by the additional one-loop diagrams with DM candidates. We first classify several simple models according to the new fields' quantum numbers. We then focus on a specific promising model and perform a detailed study of both DM and flavor physics. A random scan over t…
Building on our recent proposal to explain the experimental hints of new physics in $B$ meson decays within the framework of Pati-Salam quark-lepton unification, through the interactions of the $(3,1)_{2/3}$ vector leptoquark, we construct a realistic model of this type based on the gauge group ${\rm SU}(4)_L \times {\rm SU}(4)_R \times {\rm SU}(2)_L \times {\rm U}(1)'$ and consistent with all experimental constraints. The key feature of the model is that ${\rm SU}(4)_R$ is broken at a high scale, which suppresses right-handed lepton flavor changing currents at the low scale and evades the str…
The $3.1σ$ $R_K$ anomaly after Moriond 2021 and $3.3 σ$ $Δa_μ$ from Fermilab Muon g-2 experiment implicate that the lepton flavor universality violation (LFUV) may play a role in the exploration of new physics. A Flavor Gauged Two-Higgs Doublet Model (FG2HDM) is proposed and investigated in this work. To get rid of the the redundancy in Yukawa coupling of 2HDM-III, a specific U(1) flavor symmetry is introduced. The charge difference between two scalar doublet forbid the appearance of pseudoscalar and hence there are only three particles (a charged and neutral heavy scalar together with a neutr…
The recent results from the Fermilab muon $g-2$ experiment, as well as the persisting hints of lepton flavor universality violation in $B$-meson decays, present a very strong case for flavor-nonuniversal new physics beyond the Standard Model. We assert that a minimal $R$-parity violating supersymmetric scenario with relatively light third-generation sfermions (dubbed as 'RPV3') provides a natural, well-motivated framework for the simultaneous explanation of all flavor anomalies, while being consistent with a multitude of low-energy flavor constraints, as well as with limits from high-energy co…
The experimental predictions of $R_D$, $R_{D^*}$, $R_{J/ψ}$, $P_τ^{D^*}$ and $F_L^{D^*}$ in $B$ decays mediated via $b\,\to\, c\, l\,ν$ quark level transition deviate significantly from the standard model expectations. The current world average of the ratio of branching ratios $R_D$ and $R_{D^*}$ in $B\,\to\, D^{(*)}\, l\,ν$ ($l\in e,τ$) show $1.4σ$ and $2.5σ$ deviation from the SM expectations. Similarly, the $τ$ polarization fraction $P_τ^{D^*}$ and the longitudinal polarization fraction of the $D^*$ meson $F_L^{D^*}$ in $B\,\to\, D^*\,τ\,ν$ are found to deviate from the standard model expec…
Hints of violation of lepton flavor universality in semileptonic $B$ decays have prompted a renewed interest in leptoquarks at the low TeV scale. Among the different scenarios suggested, some happen to violate also lepton number, yet not much attention has been paid to the expected size of the associated lepton number violating processes. In this note we examine this issue. We find that there is a single leptoquark scenario compatible with the current size of the anomalies which also violates lepton number. In this scenario (Majorana) neutrino masses are radiatively generated. With the leptoqu…
We reconsider a model introducing a scalar leptoquark $ϕ\sim (\mathbf{3}, \mathbf{1}, -1/3)$ to explain recent deviations from the standard model in semileptonic $B$ decays. The leptoquark can accommodate the persistent tension in the decays $\bar{B}\rightarrow D^{(*)}τ\barν$ as long as its mass is lower than approximately $10 \text{ TeV}$, and we show that a sizeable Yukawa coupling to the right-chiral tau lepton is necessary for an acceptable explanation. Agreement with the measured $\bar{B}\rightarrow D^{(*)}τ\barν$ rates is mildly compromised for parameter choices addressing the tensions i…
