In this work, we present a solution to the persistent tensions in the decay observables $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ and $R_{K^{(\ast)}}$ by introducing a $SU(2)_L$ doublet and a $SU(2)_L$ triplet scalar leptoquarks (LQs) that reside at the TeV energy scale. Neutrinos that remain massless in the Standard Model receive naturally small masses at one-loop level via the propagation of the same LQs inside the loop. Such a common origin of apparently disjoint phenomenological observations is appealing, and we perform a comprehensive analysis of this set-up. We identify the minimal Yukawa textures required to accommodate these flavor anomalies and to successfully incorporate neutrino oscillation data while being consistent with all experimental constraints. This scenario has the potential to be tested at the experiments by the future improved measurements in the lepton flavor violating processes. Furthermore, proper explanations of these flavor anomalies predict TeV scale LQs that are directly accessible at the LHC.
Motivated by the long-standing tension in the muon anomalous magnetic moment (AMM) and persistent observations of B-physics anomalies in $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ and $R_{K^{(\ast)}}$ ratios, we construct a simple two-loop radiative neutrino mass model, and propose a combined explanations of all these apparently disjoint phenomena within this framework. Our proposed model consists of two scalar leptoquarks (LQs), a $SU(2)_L$ singlet $S_1\sim (\overline{3},1,1/3)$ and a $SU(2)_L$ triplet $S_3\sim (\overline{3},3,1/3)$ to accommodate $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ and $R_{K^{(\ast)}}$ anomalies, respectively. The muon…
We study the LHC sensitivity to a $W'$ produced via bottom and charm quarks and decaying to $τ$ flavor leptons in the mass range 200-1000 GeV. We show that the extra $b$ quarks necessitated by the production mechanism can improve the background rejection compared to an inclusive analysis relying solely on $τ$-tagging and $E_{T}^{\text{miss}}$. We present prospective limits on the couplings and compare them to the best fit to the $R(D^{(\ast)})$ anomalies in $B$ meson decays.
In order to simultaneously account for both $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ and $R_{K^{(\ast)}}$ anomalies in $B$-decays, we consider an extension of the Standard Model by a single vector leptoquark field, and study how one can achieve the required lepton flavour non-universality, starting from a priori universal gauge couplings. While the unitary quark-lepton mixing induced by $SU(2)_L$ breaking is insufficient, we find that effectively nonunitary mixings hold the key to simultaneously address the $R_{K^{(\ast)}}$ and $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ anomalies. As an intermediate step towards various UV-complete models, we…
Motivated by the recent experimental progress on the $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ and $R_{K^{(\ast)}}$ anomalies in $B$-decays, we consider an extension of the Standard Model by a single vector leptoquark field. We study how one can achieve the required lepton flavour non-universality, starting from a priori universal gauge couplings. While the unitary coupling flavour structure, induced by the mass misalignment of quarks and leptons after $SU(2)_L$ breaking, does not allow to comply with stringent bounds from lepton flavour violating processes, we find that effectively non-unitary couplings, due to mixin…
Very recently, a substantial $7σ$ deviation of the $W$-boson mass from the Standard Model (SM) prediction has been reported by the CDF collaboration. Furthermore, the Muon g-2 Experiment recently confirmed the longstanding tension in $(g-2)_μ$. Besides, the updated result from the LHCb collaboration found evidence for the breaking of lepton universality in beauty-quark decays, which shows a $3.1σ$ discrepancy and is consistent with their previous measurements. Motivated by several of these drawbacks of the SM, in this work, we propose a model consisting of two scalar leptoquarks and a vectorli…
The recent experimental results including $R_{K^{(\ast)}}$, $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$, $(g-2)_μ$ and $W$ mass show deviations from the standard model (SM) predictions, implying the clues of new physics (NP). In this work, we investigate the explanations of these anomalies in the $R$-parity violating minimal supersymmetric standard model (RPV-MSSM) extended with the inverse seesaw mechanism. The non-unitarity extent $η_{ee}$ and the loop corrections from the interaction $λ'\hat L \hat Q \hat D$ are utilized to raise the prediction of $W$ mass through muon decays. We also find that the interaction $λ'\ha…
Polarization measurements in $\bar{B} \to D^{(\ast)} τ\overlineν$ are useful to check consistency in new physics explanations for the $R_{D}$ and $R_{D^{\ast}}$ anomalies. In this paper, we investigate the $D^{\ast}$ and $τ$ polarizations and focus on the new physics contributions to the fraction of a longitudinal $D^{\ast}$ polarization ($F_{L}^{D^{\ast}}$), which is recently measured by the Belle collaboration $F_{L}^{D^{\ast}} = 0.60 \pm 0.09$, in model-independent manner and in each single leptoquark model (${\rm R}_2$, ${\rm S}_1$ and ${\rm U}_1$) that can naturally explain the $R_{D^{(\a…
We examine various scenarios in which the Standard Model is extended by a light leptoquark state to solve for one or both $B$-physics anomalies, viz. $R_{D^{(\ast)}}^\mathrm{exp}> R_{D^{(\ast)}}^\mathrm{SM}$ or/and $R_{K^{(\ast)}}^\mathrm{exp}< R_{K^{(\ast)}}^\mathrm{SM}$. To do so we combine the constraints arising both from the low-energy observables and from direct searches at the LHC. We find that none of the scalar leptoquarks of mass $m_\mathrm{LQ} \simeq 1$ TeV can alone accommodate the above mentioned anomalies. The only single leptoquark scenario which can provide a viable solution fo…
The neutral anomalies in $B$ decays are analysed in terms of the tree-level exchange of an axion-like-particle (ALP), within the effective field theory framework. The complete two-dimensional parameter space for ALP couplings to electrons and muons is explored. The solutions to $R_K$ and to the two energy bins of $R_{K^\ast}$ are confronted with the impact of ALP exchange on other observables (meson oscillations, leptonic and semileptonic decays of $B$ mesons including searches for new resonances, astrophysical constraints), as well as with the theoretical domain of validity of the effective t…
Heavy flavour physics is well described by the Standard Model with the exception of some measurements which could be pointing to new physics. We briefly review status and prospects of $R(D^{(\ast)})$ and $R(K^{(\ast)})$ anomalies and also address the long standing tension in the $|V_{cb}|$ and $|V_{ub}|$ exclusive/inclusive determinations.
We scrutinize the recently further strengthened hints for new physics in semileptonic $B$-meson decays, focusing on the 'clean' ratios of branching fractions $R_K$ and $R_{K^\ast}$ and examining to which pattern of new effects they point to. We explore in particular the hardly considered, yet fully viable, option of new physics in the right-handed electron sector and demonstrate how a recently proposed framework of leptons in composite Higgs setups naturally solves both the $R_K$ and $R_{K^\ast}$ anomalies via a peculiar structure of new physics effects, predicted by minimality of the model an…
If the leptoquarks proposed to account for the intriguing anomalies observed in the $B$-meson decays, $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ and $R_{K^{(\ast)}}$, as well as in the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, $(g-2)_μ$, can be embedded into the scotogenic Dirac neutrino model, all these flavor anomalies, together with the origin of neutrino masses and the nature of dark matter, would be potentially addressed in a unified picture. Among the minimal seesaw, one-loop, and two-loop realizations of the dimension-4 effective operator $\mathcal{L}_{4}$ for the Dirac neutrino masses, we show that plenty of diagr…
Given that the two-Higgs-doublet model of type III (2HDM-III) has the potential to address the $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ anomalies while the resolution to the $R_{K^{(\ast)}}$ deficits requires new degrees of freedom within this framework, we consider in this paper a unified scenario where the low-scale type-I seesaw mechanism is embedded into the 2HDM-III, so as to accommodate the $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ and $R_{K^{(\ast)}}$ anomalies as well as the neutrino mass. We first revisit the $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ anomalies and find that the current world-averaged results can be addressed at $2σ$ level without violating …
Motivated by the experimentally observed deviations from standard model predictions, we calculate the anomalous magnetic moments $a_α= (g-2)_α$ for $α=e,μ$ in a neutrino mass model originally proposed by Babu-Nandi-Tavartkiladze (BNT). We discuss two variants of the model, the original model plus a minimally extended version with an additional hypercharge zero triplet scalar. While the original BNT model can explain $a_μ$, only the variant with the triplet scalar can explain both experimental anomalies. The heavy fermions of the model can be produced at the high-luminosity LHC and in the part …
The $R_{D^{(*)}}$ anomalies are among the longest-standing and most statistically significant hints of physics beyond the Standard Model. Many models have been proposed to explain these anomalies, including the interesting possibility that right-handed neutrinos could be involved in the $B$ decays. In this paper, we investigate future measurements at Belle II that can be used to tell apart the various new physics scenarios. Focusing on a number of $τ$ asymmetry observables (forward-backward asymmetry and polarization asymmetries) which can be reconstructed at Belle II, we calculate the contrib…
The ANITA experiment has seen anomalous Earth emergent showers of EeV energies which cannot be explained with Standard Model interactions. In addition, tests of lepton flavor universality in $ R(D^{(\ast)})$ and $R(K^{(\ast)})$ have shown significant deviations from theoretical predictions. It is known that, among single leptoquark solutions, only the chiral vector leptoquark $U_1 \sim (\mathbf{3}, \mathbf{1} , 2/3)$ can simultaneously address the discrepancies. In this paper, we show that the leptoquark motivated by flavor anomalies coupled to a sterile neutrino can also explain the ANITA Ano…
We investigate the possible origins of the norm and shape reactor antineutrino anomalies in the framework of a summation model (SM) where $β^{-}$ transitions are simulated by a phenomenological Gamow-Teller $β$-decay strength model. The general trends of the discrepancies to the Huber-Mueller model on the antineutrino side can be reproduced both in norm and shape. From the exact electron-antineutrino correspondence of the SM model, we predict similar distortions in the electron spectra, suggesting that biases on the reference fission-electron spectra could be at the origin of the anomalies.
Experimental measurements collected by the BABAR, Belle, and LHCb experiments on different observables associated with the semileptonic transition $b \to c τ\barν_τ$, indicate the existence of disagreement respect with the Standard Model predictions. We analyse the charged scalar boson contributions to these charged-current $B$ meson anomalies within the framework of two Higgs doublet model with the most general Yukawa couplings to quarks and leptons from the third generation, involving left-handed and right-handed (sterile) neutrinos. We perform a phenomenological study of the Yukawa coupling…
The LHCb has measured the ratios of $B\to K^\astμ^+μ^-$ to $B\to K^\ast e^+ e^-$ branching fractions in two dilepton invariant mass squared bins, which deviate from the Standard Model predictions by approximately $2.5σ$. These new measurements strengthen the hint of lepton flavor universality breaking which was observed earlier in $B\to K\ell^+\ell^-$ decays. In this work we explore the possibility of explaining these anomalies within the framework of $R$-parity violating interactions. In this framework, $b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$ transitions are generated through tree and one loop diagrams involvin…
The updated measurements from the LHCb and SH0ES collaborations have respectively strengthened the deviations of the ratio $R_{K}$ in rare semi-leptonic $B$-meson decays and the present-day Hubble parameter $H_0$ in the Universe, implying tantalizing hints of new physics beyond the Standard Model. In this paper, we consider a simple flavor-specific two-Higgs-doublet model, where the long-standing $R_{K^{(*)}}$ anomalies can be addressed by a one-flavor right-handed neutrino. One of the intriguing predictions resulting from the parameter space for the $R_{K^{(*)}}$ resolution under flavor- and …
The LHCb and Belle collaborations have reported on some anomalies in $b \to s$ transitions, with discrepancies with the Standard Model predictions in some angular observables and branching ratios and intriguing hints for lepton universality violation. We will review the current situation and explore the proposed New Physics explanations for these tensions. We will also discuss the possible connection of the $b \to s$ anomalies to other central problems in physics, such as the dark matter of the Universe, the origin of neutrino masses or the strong CP problem.
We present a dark sector model that reproduces the KOTO, MiniBooNE and muon anomalous magnetic moment anomalies. The dark sector is comprised of a light scalar singlet $S$ that has a large coupling to a slightly heavier sterile neutrino that mixes with the active neutrinos. The scalar couples to standard model fermions via Yukawa couplings, and to photons via a higher-dimensional coupling. The KOTO signal is a result of the flavor-changing penguin process $K_L \to π^0 S$ followed by the decay of $S$ to neutrinos. The sterile neutrino produced in neutrino-nucleus scattering at MiniBooNE decays …
Within the assumption of Left-Handed (LH) New Physics (NP), we review the relations between $\mathcal{B}(B\to K^{(\ast)} τ^+τ^-)$ and $\mathcal{B}(B\to K^{(\ast)} ν\bar ν)$ for several Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) scenarios, commonly considered to explain the Lepton flavor Universality (LFU) violation observed in charged and neutral-current semileptonic $B$ decays. We employ the latest $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ world averages that include the recent LHCb measurement and assess the possibility of simultaneously explaining the $B$-anomalies without spoiling current bounds on di-neutrino and di-tau mod…
We show that a simple extension of the Standard Model involving the introduction of vector-like quarks and heavy neutrinos, provides an explanation of the so called B-anomalies in $b\to s\ell\bar\ell$ transitions. Vector-like quarks can explain, in the context of a discrete flavour symmetry, all the relevant characteristics of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa sector. It is in this framework that we study the requirements on the masses of the vector like quarks and the heavy neutrinos leading to viable models with sufficient deviations of lepton flavour universality and which simultaneously avoid …
Since 2013, the LHCb collaboration has reported on the measurement of several observables associated to $b \to s$ transitions, finding various deviations from their predicted values in the Standard Model. These include a set of deviations in branching ratios and angular observables, as well as in the observables $R_K$ and $R_{K^\ast}$, specially built to test the possible violation of Lepton Flavor Universality. Even though these tantalizing hints are not conclusive yet, the $b \to s$ anomalies have gained considerable attention in the flavor community. Here we review New Physics models that a…
Experimental hints for lepton flavor universality violation in beauty-quark decay both in neutral- and charged-current transitions require an extension of the Standard Model for which scalar leptoquarks (LQs) are the prime candidates. Besides, these same LQs can resolve the long-standing tension in the muon and the recently reported deviation in the electron $g-2$ anomalies. These tantalizing flavor anomalies have discrepancies in the range of $2.5σ-4.2σ$, indicating that the Standard Model of particle physics may finally be cracking. In this Letter, we propose a resolution to all these anomal…
Very recent experimental information obtained from the Belle experiment, along with that accumulated by the BABAR and LHCb experiments, has shown the existence of anomalies in the ratios $R(D)$ and $R(D^{*})$ associated with the charged-current transition $b \to c τ\barν_τ$. Although the Belle measurements are in agreement with the standard model (SM) predictions, the new experimental world averages still exhibit a tension. In addition, the $D^\ast$ longitudinal polarization $F_L(D^\ast)$ related with the channel $B \to D^\ast τ\barν_τ$ observed by the Belle Collaboration and the ratio $R(J/ψ)…
We address the $B$-physics anomalies within a two scalar leptoquark model. The low-energy flavor structure of our set-up originates from two $SU(5)$ operators that relate Yukawa couplings of the two leptoquarks. The proposed scenario has a UV completion, can accommodate all measured lepton flavor universality ratios in $B$-meson decays, is consistent with related flavor observables, and is compatible with direct searches at the LHC. We provide prospects for future discoveries of the two light leptoquarks at the LHC and predict several yet-to-be-measured flavor observables.
Recently, several $B$-physics experiments report interesting anomalies in the semi-leptonic decays of $B$-mesons, such as the excess in the $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ measurements. These anomalies seem to suggest intriguing hints of lepton flavor non-universality, and the R-parity violating (RPV) interactions are candidates for explaining this non-universality. In this paper, we discuss the RPV interactions for resolving the $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ anomaly with the Grand Unified Theory (GUT) assumption. To solve the $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ anomaly, it is known that large RPV couplings and around $1~{\rm TeV}$ sfermio…
The vector leptoquark representation, $U_μ= (3,1,2/3)$, was recently identified as an exceptional single mediator model to address experimental hints on lepton flavour universality violation in semileptonic $B$-meson decays, both in neutral ($b \to s μμ$) and charged ($b \to c τν$) current processes. Nonetheless, it is well-known that massive vectors crave an ultraviolet (UV) completion. We present the first full-fledged UV complete and calculable gauge model which incorporates this scenario while remaining in agreement with all other indirect flavour and electroweak precision measurements, as…
We study a generic leptophilic $U(1)_X$ extension of the standard model with a light gauge boson. The $U(1)_X$ charge assignments for the leptons are guided by lepton universality violating (LUV) observables in semileptonic $b \to s\ell\ell$ decays, muon anomalous magnetic moment and the origin of leptonic masses and mixing. Anomaly cancellation conditions require the addition of new chiral fermions in the model, one of which acts as a dark matter (DM) candidate when it is stabilised by an additional $\mathcal{Z}_2$ symmetry. From our analysis, we show two different possible models with simila…
The $R(D^{(\ast)})$ anomalies observed in $B\to D^{(\ast)}τν$ decays have attracted much attention in recent years. In this paper, we study the $B\to D^{(\ast)}τν$, $Λ_b\toΛ_cτν$, $B_c\to (J/ψ,\,η_c)τν$, $B\to X_cτν$, and $B_c\toτν$ decays, all being mediated by the same quark-level $b\to cτν$ transition, in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory. The most relevant dimension-six operators for these processes are $Q_{lq}^{(3)}$, $Q_{ledq}$, $Q^{(1)}_{lequ}$, and $Q^{(3)}_{lequ}$ in the Warsaw basis. Evolution of the corresponding Wilson coefficients from the new physics scale $Λ=1$~TeV down …
We revisit the possibilities of accommodating the experimental indications of the lepton flavor universality violation in $b$-hadron decays in the minimal scenarios in which the Standard Model is extended by the presence of a single $\mathcal{O}(1\,\mathrm{TeV})$ leptoquark state. To do so we combine the most recent low energy flavor physics constraints, including $R_{K^{(\ast)}}^\mathrm{exp}$ and $R_{D^{(\ast)}}^\mathrm{exp}$, and combine them with the bounds on the leptoquark masses and their couplings to quarks and leptons as inferred from the direct searches at the LHC and the studies of t…
In a modest attempt to present potentially new paradigms in Cosmology, including its inflationary epoch, and initiate discussions, I review in this article some novel, string-inspired cosmological models, which entail a purely geometrical origin of the Dark sector of the Universe but also of its observed matter-antimatter asymmetry. The models contain gravitational (string-model independent, Kalb-Ramond (KR)) axion fields coupled to primordial gravitational anomalies via CP-violating interactions. The anomaly terms are four-space-time-dimensional remnants of the Green-Schwarz counterterms appe…
We have detected astrophysical neutrinos in IceCube that can be used to probe astrophysical sources at ultra high scales. Here we report a search for anomalous space time effects using astrophysical neutrino flavor data in IceCube. New effective operators are introduced to drive non-standard neutrino flavor mixing which modify the flavor ratios compared to standard cases. Using the High Energy Starting Events sample (HESE) 7.5-year data for this analysis, we found no evidence of such flavor anomalies. However, we are expecting to set limits from this new approach which goes far beyond any know…
