Experimental measurements collected by the BABAR, Belle, and LHCb experiments on different observables associated with the semileptonic transition $b \to c τ\barν_τ$, indicate the existence of disagreement respect with the Standard Model predictions. We analyse the charged scalar boson contributions to these charged-current $B$ meson anomalies within the framework of two Higgs doublet model with the most general Yukawa couplings to quarks and leptons from the third generation, involving left-handed and right-handed (sterile) neutrinos. We perform a phenomenological study of the Yukawa couplings parameter space that accommodates these anomalies. We consider the most recent data from HFLAV world-average and Belle combination, and the upper limits ${\rm BR}(B_c^- \to τ^- \barν_τ) < 30\%$ and $10\%$. In addition, we include in our study the prospect measurements on $R(D^{(\ast)})$ that the Belle II experiment could achieve and explore, for the first time, the future implications for the corresponding charged scalar Yukawa couplings. This analysis updates the existing literature and includes new important observables. Our results show that current experimental $b\rightarrow c τ\barν_τ$ data and Belle II projection favor the interpretation of a charged scalar boson interacting with right-handed neutrinos. Furthermore, as a side analysis regarding the charged scalar boson interpretation, we revisit the relation between $R(D^\ast)$ and ${\rm BR}(B_c^- \to τ^- \barν_τ)$ by investigating whether the claim that pseudoscalar new physics interpretations of $R(D^{\ast})$ are implausible due to the $B_c$ lifetime is still valid, to the light of the recent data and Belle II prospects on $R(D^{\ast})$. Lastly, we reexamine addressing the $R(D^{(\ast)})$ anomalies in the context of the 2HDM of Type II.
I will review simplified models with leptoquarks, which can explain recent anomalies in $B$-meson physics, and I will indicate the High-Luminosity LHC prospects for testing these theories, with a special focus to the efficient channel of pair leptoquark production in the $t\bar t$ plus missing energy final state.
We assume that the quark-flavor coefficients matrix of the semileptonic operators addressing the neutral-current B-meson anomalies has rank-one, i.e. it can be described by a single vector in quark-flavor space. By correlating the observed anomalies to other flavor and high-$p_T$ observables, we constrain its possible directions and we show that a large region of the parameter space of this framework will be explored by flavor data from the NA62, KOTO, LHCb and Belle II experiments.
Motivated by flavor non-universality and anomalies in semi-leptonic B-meson decays, we present a general and systematic discussion about how to construct anomaly-free $U(1)'$ gauge theories based on an extended standard model with only three right-handed neutrinos. If all standard model fermions are vector-like under this new gauge symmetry, the most general family non-universal charge assignments, $(a,b,c)$ for three-generation quarks and $(d,e,f)$ for leptons, need satisfy just one condition to be anomaly-free, $3(a+b+c)=-(d+e+f)$. Any assignment can be linear combinations of five independen…
Higher order effects of the two-dimensional non-Abelian gauge theories, in which the vector-meson mass is generated by chiral anomalies, will be studied. The $β$ function and the topological nature of the non-linear $σ$ model in the action and unitarity of the theory will be discussed.
In this note, we discuss the impact of the recent Belle result on the various theoretical explanations of the $R_D$ and $R_{D^*}$ anomalies. The pure tensor explanation, which was strongly disfavoured by the measurements of $F_L^{D^*}$ and high-$p_T$ $p \, p \to τ\, ν$ searches before Moriond, is now completely allowed because of reduction of the experimental world-average. Moreover, the pure right-chiral vector solution (involving right-chiral neutrinos) has now moved into the $2σ$ allowed range of the LHC $p \, p \to τ\, ν$ searches. We also critically re-examine the bound on $\mathcal{B}(B_…
We investigate a new constraint on new-physics interpretations of the anomalies observed in $B\to D^{(*)}τν$ decays making use of the lifetime of the $B_c^-$ meson. A constraint is obtained by demanding that the rate for $B_c^-\toτ^-\barν$ does not exceed the fraction of the total width that is allowed by the calculation of the lifetime in the standard model. This leads to a very strong bound on new-physics scenarios involving scalar operators since they lift the slight, but not negligible, chiral suppression of the $B_c^-\toτ^-\barν$ amplitude in the standard model. The new constraint renders…
We consider an anomaly-free $U(1)'$ model with favorable couplings to heavy flavors in the Standard Model(SM), as motivated by $B$-meson anomalies at LHCb. Taking the $U(1)'$ charge to be $Q'=y(L_μ-L_τ)+ x(B_3-L_3)$, we can explain the $B$-meson anomalies without invoking extra charged fermions or flavor violation beyond the SM. We show that there is a viable parameter space with a small $x$ that is compatible with other meson decays, tau lepton and neutrino experiments as well as the LHC dimuon searches. We briefly discuss the prospects of discovering the $Z'$ gauge boson at the LHC in the pr…
The Standard Model decay rate of the $B_c$ meson is discussed together with a novel approach that uses experimental data in combination with an operator product expansion. In the new method differences of $B,\,D$ and $B_c$ meson decay rates are considered for which the free-quark contributions drop out, leading to a reduction of the theory prediction.
There is a long-standing anomaly in the ratio of the decay width for $ψ(3770)\to D^0\overline{D^0}$ to that for $ψ(3770)\to D^+D^-$ at the level of $9.5\,σ$. A similar anomaly exists for the ratio of $ϕ(1020)\to K_\text{L}^0K_\text{S}^0$ to $ϕ(1020)\to K^+K^-$ at $2.1\,σ$. In this study, we reassess the anomaly through the lens of Gaussian wave-packet formalism. Our comprehensive calculations include the localization of the overlap of the wave packets near the mass thresholds as well as the composite nature of the initial-state vector mesons. The results align within $\sim 1 σ$ confidence leve…
We consider the U(1)$_X$ model, which can induce the flavor violating couplings through vectorlike fermions and address the observed rare $B$-meson decay anomalies. To be consistent with all the other observations, both the associated gauge boson mass and the vectorlike lepton mass are bounded from above. We argue that the search for new vectorlike leptons is promising and provides a complement to the $Z'$ search. A detailed collider analysis shows that the model with the vectorlike lepton mass up to 1000 GeV could be tested at the future LHC.
The experimental measurements on flavour physics, in tension with Standard Model predictions, exhibit large sources of Lepton Flavour Universality violation. This note summarises an analysis of the effects of the global fits to the Wilson coefficients assuming a model independent effective Hamiltonian approach, by including a proposal of different scenarios to include the New Physics contributions. Additionally, we include an overview of the impact of the future generation of colliders in the field of B-meson anomalies.
We entertain the option of scalar leptoquarks to explain the anomalies in the semi-leptonic decays of $B$-mesons and the discrepancies in the lepton $(g-2)_l$'s including the recent results at Fermilab E989. The $R_{K^{(*)}}$ and $R_{D^{(*)}}$ anomalies can be accommodated by the specific couplings for triplet and singlet leptoquarks, respectively, subject to the bounds from $B\to Kν{\barν}$. We discuss the correlation between the leptonic signatures from leptoquarks such as $μ\to eγ$ and the electric dipole moment of electron and show that desirable neutrino masses can be generated dominantly…
Recently reported anomalies in various $B$ meson decays and also in the anomalous magnetic moment of muon $(g-2)_μ$ motivate us to consider a particular extension of the standard model incorporating new interactions in lepton and quark sectors simultaneously. Our minimal choice would be leptoquark. In particular, we take vector leptoquark ($U_1$) and comprehensively study all related observables including ${(g-2)_μ},\ R_{K^{(*)}},\ R_{D^{(*)}}$, $B \to (K) \ell \ell' $ where $\ell\ell'$ are various combinations of $μ$ and $τ$, and also lepton flavor violation in the $τ$ decays. We find that a …
The HLS Model, equipped with a mechanism providing the breaking of U(3)/SU(3) symmetry and an isospin symmetry breaking leading naturally to vector meson mixing, has been recently shown to successfully account for $e^+ e^- \ra π^+π^-$ cross section and for the dipion spectrum in $τ$ decay. The present study shows that the full anomalous sector of the HLS model can be considered and is validated by the experimental data. Indeed, this extended model provides a successful simultaneous fit to the $e^+ e^- \ra π^+π^-$ data together with the available data on $e^+ e^- \ra π^0γ$, $e^+ e^- \ra ηγ$ and…
We provide a combined explanation of the increasingly tantalizing $B$-meson anomalies, both in $R_{K^{(*)}}$ and $R_{D^{(*)}}$, in the Pati-Salam model with minimal matter content. This well-known model, based on the gauge group $SU(4)_{LC} \times SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R$, naturally contains a variety of scalar leptoquarks with related and restricted couplings. In particular we show that the seesaw-motivated scalar leptoquark within the representation $(\overline{10}, 3, 1)$ and its right-handed parity partner $(\overline{10}, 1, 3)$ can solve both anomalies while making testable predictions fo…
We explore the connection of the leptoquark solution to the recently reported $B$-meson anomalies with a mechanism of neutrino mass generation and a viable dark matter candidate. We consider a model consisting of two scalar leptoquarks and three generations of triplet fermions: neutrino masses are radiatively generated at the 3-loop level and, by imposing a discrete $Z_2$ symmetry, one can obtain a viable dark matter candidate. We discuss the constraints on the flavour structure of this model arising from numerous flavour observables. The rare decay $K\to π^+ν\barν$ and charged lepton flavour …
We present the color dipole phenomenology of diffractive photo- and electroproduction $γ^{*} N\to V(V') N$ of vector mesons ($V(1S) = ϕ^0, ω^0, ρ^0, J/Ψ, Υ$) and their radial excitations ($V'(2S) = ϕ', ω', ρ', Ψ', Υ'$). The main emphasis is related to light vector mesons. We discuss how the energy dependence of the color dipole cross section in conjuction with the node of the radial wave function of the $2S$ states can lead to an anomalous $Q^2$ and energy dependence of diffractive production of $V'(2S)$ vector mesons. The color dipole model predictions for $V(1S)$ light vector meson productio…
A possibility of explaining the anomalies in the semileptonic $B$-meson decay $B \to K^{*} μ\barμ$ has been explored in the framework of the gauged $U(1)_{μ-τ}$ symmetry. Apart from the muon anomalous magnetic moment and neutrino sector, we formulate the model starting with a valid Lagrangian and consider the constraints from the neutral meson mixings, the bounds on direct detection and the relic density of the bosonic dark matter candidate augmented to collider constraints. We search the parameter space, which accommodates the size of the anomaly of the $B \rightarrow K^* μ\bar μ$ decay, to s…
Significant deviations from the Standard Model are observed in semileptonic charged and neutral-current B-decays, the muon magnetic moment, and the extraction of the Cabibbo angle. We propose that these deviations point towards a coherent pattern of New Physics effects induced by two scalar mediators, a leptoquark $S_1$ and a charged singlet $ϕ^+$. While $S_1$ can provide solutions to charged-current $B$-decays and the muon magnetic moment, and $ϕ^+$ can accommodate the Cabibbo-angle anomaly independently, their one-loop level synergy can also address neutral-current $B$-decays. This framework…
At present, there are outstanding discrepancies between standard model predictions and measurements of the muon's $g-2$ and several $B$-meson properties. We resolve these anomalies by considering a two-Higgs-doublet model extended to include leptoquarks and a dark Higgs boson $S$. The leptoquarks modify $B$-meson decays and also induce an $S γγ$ coupling, which contributes to the muon's $g-2$ through a Barr-Zee diagram. We show that, for TeV-scale leptoquarks and dark Higgs boson masses $m_{S} \sim 10-200~\text{MeV}$, a consistent resolution to all of the anomalies exists. The model predicts i…
In this work we study possible connections between $B$-meson anomalies and Kaon physics observables in the context of combined solutions with the singlet and triplet scalar leptoquarks $S_1$ and $S_3$. By assuming a flavor structure for the leptoquark couplings dictated by a minimally broken $U(2)^5$ flavor symmetry we can make a sharp connection between these two classes of observables. We find that the bound on $\mathcal{B}(K^+ \rightarrow π^+ νν)$ from NA62 puts already some tension in the model, while the present limits on $\mathcal{B}(K_L \rightarrow μ^+ μ^-)$ and $μ\to e$ conversion in n…
Several anomalies in the semileptonic B-meson decays such as $\mathcal{R}(D^{(*)})$ have been reported by $BABAR$, Belle, and LHCb collaborations recently. In this paper, we investigate the contributions of the charged Higgs bosons from the 3-3-1 models to the $\mathcal{R}(D^{(*)})$ anomalies. We find that, in a wide range of parameter space, the 3-3-1 models might give reasonable explanations to the $\mathcal{R}(D^{(*)})$ anomalies and other analogous anomalies of the B meson's semileptonic decays.
We investigate solutions to the flavour anomalies in $B$ decays based on loop diagrams of a "split" dark sector characterised by the simultaneous presence of heavy particles at the TeV scale and light particles around and below the $B$-meson mass scale. We show that viable parameter space exists for solutions based on penguin diagrams with a vector mediator, while minimal constructions relying on box diagrams are in strong tension with the constraints from the LHC, LEP, and the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. In particular, we highlight a regime where the mediator lies close to the $B$-…
We attempt to explain recent anomalies in semileptonic $B$ decays at LHCb via a composite Higgs model, in which both the Higgs and an $SU(2)_L$-triplet leptoquark arise as pseudo-Goldstone bosons of the strong dynamics. Fermion masses are assumed to be generated via the mechanism of partial compositeness, which largely determines the leptoquark couplings and implies non-universal lepton interactions. The latter are needed to accommodate tensions in the $b \to s μμ$ dataset and to be consistent with a discrepancy measured at LHCb in the ratio of $B^+ \to K^+ μ^+ μ^-$ to $B^+ \to K^+ e^+ e^-$ br…
We consider a simple extension of the Standard Model with flavor-dependent $U(1)'$, that has been proposed to explain some of $B$-meson anomalies recently reported at LHCb. The $U(1)'$ charge is chosen as a linear combination of anomaly-free $B_3-L_3$ and $L_μ-L_τ$. In this model, the flavor structure in the SM is restricted due to flavor-dependent $U(1)'$ charges, in particular, quark mixings are induced by a small vacuum expectation value of the extra Higgs doublet. As a result, it is natural to get sizable flavor-violating Yukawa couplings of heavy Higgs bosons involving the bottom quark. I…
We propose a model with flavor dependent gauged symmetries of $\displaystyle \prod_{i=1}^3 U(1)_{B_i-L_i}$ with $i$ the family indices. After formulating the renormalizable Yukawa Lagrangian, Higgs potential and kinetic term, we study the lepton sector based on a successful two-zero texture without introducing extra scalar bosons to avoid the dangerous Goldstone bosons. In particular, we discuss the muon related phenomenologies via additional neutral gauge bosons. In our numerical analysis, we explore the allowed parameter space, in which the anomaly of $B \to K^* \bar μμ$ can be explained.
We address the presently reported significant flavor anomalies in the $K$ and $B$ meson systems such as the CP violating Kaon decay ($ε'/ε$) and lepton-flavor universality violation in $B$ meson decays ($R_{K^{(*)}},$ and also commenting ${R_{D^{(*)}}}$), by proposing flavorful and chiral vector bosons as the new physics constitution at $\sim 1\,\mathrm{TeV}$. Interestingly, if the new (composite) vector bosons are quite heavier than $\sim 1\,\mathrm{TeV}$, we face a difficulty in addressing the anomaly in $ε'/ε$ consistently with the constraint from the $K^0$-$\overline{K^0}$ mixing. Both of …
Motivated by the recent experimental progress on the $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ and $R_{K^{(\ast)}}$ anomalies in $B$-decays, we consider an extension of the Standard Model by a single vector leptoquark field. We study how one can achieve the required lepton flavour non-universality, starting from a priori universal gauge couplings. While the unitary coupling flavour structure, induced by the mass misalignment of quarks and leptons after $SU(2)_L$ breaking, does not allow to comply with stringent bounds from lepton flavour violating processes, we find that effectively non-unitary couplings, due to mixin…
We discuss for some particular non supersymmetric theories a generalized symmetry that includes both the scale and axial transformations and leads to a single current that may contain also a pseudoscalar term. The method, inspired by the superconformal anomalies has important application for low energy effective models where it allows the introduction of a single complex glueball field with a scalar and a pseudoscalar component on the same footing with the complex meson nonets fields made of quarks. Both axial and trace and axial anomalies are satisfied in accordance to the meson structure and…
We address the presently reported significant flavor anomalies in the Kaon and $B$ meson systems such as the CP violating Kaon decay ($ε'/ε$) and lepton-flavor universality violation in $B$ meson decays ($R_{K^{(*)}},{R_{D^{(*)}}}$), by proposing flavorful and chiral vector bosons as the new physics constitution at around TeV scale. The chiral-flavorful vectors (CFVs) are introduced as a 63-plet of the global $SU(8)$ symmetry, identified as the one-family symmetry for left-handed quarks and leptons in the standard model (SM) forming the 8-dimensional vector. Thus the CFVs include massive gluon…
The $Z'$-gauge boson in an $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ gauge symmetry has two interesting features: one is its vector couplings to the charged leptons, and the other is the decoupling from the electron. Based on these properties, we investigate the feasibility to simultaneously resolve the $R_{K^{(*)}} = BR(B\to K^{(*)} μ^+ μ^-)/BR(B\to K^{(*)} e^+ e^-)$ and $R_{D^{(*)}} = BR(\bar B\to D^{(*)} τ\barν_τ)/BR(\bar B\to D^{(*)} \ell \barν_\ell)$ anomalies in an $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ model, where the former is expected to arise from the $Z'$-penguin-induced $b\to s μ^+ μ^-$ process and the latter from the tree-lev…
The experimental measurements on flavour physics, in tension with Standard Model predictions, exhibit large sources of Lepton Flavour Universality violation. We perform an analysis of the effects of the global fits on the Wilson coefficients assuming a model independent effective Hamiltonian approach, by including a set of different scenarios in which the New Physics contributions to the Wilson coefficients are present in one, two or three of the Wilson coefficients at a time. We compare the results of the global fit with respect to two cases: the Standard Model and the more general case in wh…
We investigate models of a heavy neutral gauge boson Z' which could explain anomalies in B meson decays reported by the LHCb experiment. In these models, the Z' boson couples mostly to third generation fermions. We show that bottom quarks arising from gluon splitting can fuse into Z' as an essential production mechanism at the LHC, thereby allowing to probe these models. The study is performed within a generic framework for explaining the B anomalies that can be accommodated in well motivated models. The flavor violating b s coupling associated with Z' in such models produces lower bound on th…
We show that one can explain the neutral and charged anomalies in B-meson decays in the minimal theory for quark-lepton unification. The implications for flavor violating processes are discussed in detail. Strikingly, experimental observations suggest that the unification of quarks and leptons could be realized below the ${\cal O}(10^2)$ TeV scale.
Motivated by the recent LHCb announcement of a $3.1σ$ violation of lepton-flavor universality in the ratio $R_K=Γ(B\to Kμ^+μ^-)/Γ(B\to K e^+ e^-)$, we present an updated, comprehensive analysis of the flavor anomalies seen in both neutral-current ($b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$) and charged-current ($b\to cτ\barν$) decays of $B$ mesons. Our study starts from a model-independent effective field-theory approach and then considers both a simplified model and a UV-complete extension of the Standard Model featuring a vector leptoquark $U_1$ as the main mediator of the anomalies. We show that the new LHCb dat…
We have witnessed some flavor anomalies appeared in the past years, and explanations based on extended gauge sectors are among the most popular solutions. These beyond the Standard Model (SM) theories often assume flavor changing interactions mediated by new vector bosons, but at the same time they could yield deviations from the SM in the $K^{0}-\bar{K}^{0}$, $D^{0}-\bar{D}^{0}$, $B^0_d-\bar{B^0}_d$ and $B^0_s-\bar{B^0}_s$ meson systems. Using up-to-date data on the mass difference of these meson systems, we derive lower mass bounds on vector mediators for two different parametrizations of th…

Ground and first radially excited scalar isoscalar meson states and a scalar glueball are described in a nonlocal U(3)xU(3) quark model. The glueball is introduced into the effective meson Lagrangian by means of the dilaton model on the base of the scale invariance of the meson Lagrangian. The scale invariance breaking by current quark masses and gluon anomalies is taken into account. The glueball anomalies turn out to be important for the description of the glueball-quarkonia mixing. The masses of five scalar isoscalar meson states and their strong decay widths are calculated. The state f_0(1…
Recent anomalies in $B\to K^{(*)}\ell\ell$ meson decays are consistent with exchange of a heavy $Z'$ vector boson. Here we try to connect such new physics to understanding the origin of flavor, by gauging generation number. Phenomenological and theoretical considerations suggest that the smallest viable flavor symmetry (not including any extra U(1) factors) is chiral ${\rm SU(3)}_L\times{\rm SU(3)}_R$, which acts only on generation indices and does not distinguish between quarks and leptons. Spontaneous breaking of the symmetry gives rise to the standard model Yukawa matrices, and masses for t…
We interpret anomalies, deviations, from the standard model as being in fact due to effects not given by perturbation, because the top Yukawa coupling is after all so large that not by perturbation effects become important. Most of the anomalies found have the character of signaling violation of lepton universality. There are four lepton universality violating anomalies known at present, which we shall fit with one overall scale parameter to order of magnitude accuracy. One can look at the picture that we have found - due to the rather strong top Yukawa coupling - as a new sector of strongly i…
We show how the effective action of the Extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model (ENJL) can be defined in the presence of anomalies in a way that reproduces the flavour anomaly. This necessarily breaks Vector Meson Dominance (VMD) in the usual sense. The same method can be used to construct other chiral effective theories involving constituent quarks and spin-1 mesons that give the correct flavour anomaly. We also comment on how standard VMD is the root of this problem and those observed by previous authors in implementing VMD in the anomalous sector.
We analyze the recent hints of lepton flavor universality violation in both charged-current and neutral-current rare decays of $B$-mesons in an $R$-parity violating supersymmetric scenario. Motivated by simplicity and minimality, we had earlier postulated the third-generation superpartners to be the lightest (calling the scenario "RPV3") and explicitly showed that it preserves gauge coupling unification and of course has the usual attribute of naturally addressing the Higgs radiative stability. Here we show that both $R_{D^{(*)}}$ and $R_{K^{(*)}}$ flavor anomalies can be addressed in this RPV…
Several measurements of B-meson decay observables show deviations from Standard Model (SM) predictions, some of them hinting at violation of lepton flavour universality (LFU). I discusses how the anomalies in rare B decays can be explained by partial compositeness. Partial compositeness is a key ingredient of models with a composite Higgs boson and generically leads to violation of LFU. After presenting a simple model with partial compositeness that is able to explain the anomalies in rare B decays, the flavour phenomenology of a minimal UV completion of a composite Higgs model with partial co…
Motivated by the recent experimental progress on the $B$-meson decay anomalies (in particular the angular observables in $B\to K^\astμμ$), we rely on a simplified-model approach to study the prospects of vector leptoquarks in what concerns numerous flavour observables, identifying several promising decay modes which would allow to (indirectly) probe such an extension. Our findings suggest that the confirmation of the $B$-meson decay anomalies, in parallel with positive signals (at Belle II or LHCb) for $τ\to ϕμ$, $B_{(s)}$-meson decays to $τ^+ τ^-$ and $τ^+ μ^-$ ($τ^+ e^-$) final states, as we…
Motivated by the result of the Muon g-2 experiment and the long-standing anomalies in semileptonic $B$ meson decays, we systematically build a class of minimal models that can address both experimental results thanks to the contributions of a set of new fields that include a thermal Dark Matter candidate.
Motivated by 3.9 sigma evidence of a CP-violating phase beyond the standard model in the like-sign dimuon asymmetry reported by DO, we examine the potential for two Higgs doublet models (2HDMs) to achieve successful electroweak baryogenesis (EWBG) while explaining the dimuon anomaly. Our emphasis is on the minimal flavour violating 2HDM, but our numerical scans of model parameter space include type I and type II models as special cases. We incorporate relevant particle physics constraints, including electroweak precision data, b to s gamma, the neutron electric dipole moment, R_b, and perturba…
Recent LHCb results on $R_{K^*}$, the ratio of the branching fractions of $B \to K^* μ^+ μ^-$ to that of $B \to K^* e^+ e^-$, for the dilepton invariant mass bins $q^2 \equiv m_{\ell\ell}^2 = [0.045 - 1.1]$ GeV$^2$ and $[1.1 - 6]$ GeV$^2$ show approximately $2.5 σ$ deviations from the corresponding Standard Model prediction in each of the bins. This, when combined with the measurement of $R_K \, (q^2=[1-6]\, \rm GeV^2)$, a similar ratio for the decay to a pseudo scalar meson, highly suggests for lepton non-universal new physics in semi-leptonic $B$ meson decays. In this work, we perform a mode…
The neutral anomalies in $B$ decays are analysed in terms of the tree-level exchange of an axion-like-particle (ALP), within the effective field theory framework. The complete two-dimensional parameter space for ALP couplings to electrons and muons is explored. The solutions to $R_K$ and to the two energy bins of $R_{K^\ast}$ are confronted with the impact of ALP exchange on other observables (meson oscillations, leptonic and semileptonic decays of $B$ mesons including searches for new resonances, astrophysical constraints), as well as with the theoretical domain of validity of the effective t…
We study the possibility of explaining the recently found anomalies in B-meson decays within scenarios with a composite Higgs boson. This class of models provides a natural way to fit the experimental results, interpreting the anomalies as the result of the exchange of heavy vector resonances with electroweak quantum numbers. The anomalies are tightly related to deviations in Delta F = 2 transitions and to deformations of the Z and W couplings, whose size is of the order of the present experimental bounds. This leads to a very predictive scenario which could be soon tested at collider experime…
Many meson processes are related to the U_A(1) axial anomaly, present in the Feynman graphs where fermion loops connect axial vertices with vector vertices. However, the coupling of pseudoscalar mesons to quarks does not have to be formulated via axial vertices. The pseudoscalar coupling is also possible, and this approach is especially natural on the level of the quark substructure of hadrons. In this paper we point out the advantages of calculating these processes using (instead of the anomalous graphs) the Feynman graphs where axial vertices are replaced by pseudoscalar vertices. We elabora…
The anomalies recently reported in lepton pair transitions of $^8$Be$^*$ and $^4$He nuclei may be attributed to the existence of a feebly interacting light vector boson $X17$. We study the effects of this hypothetical particle in the semileptonic $H^* \to H e^+e^-$ decays ($H$ a $Q\bar{q}$ meson) in the framework of the HQET+VMD model. Using current bounds and the universality assumption of the $X17$ boson to quarks, we find that decays of $D^{*+}$ and $D_s^{*+}$ mesons can be importantly enhanced relative to the dominant photon-mediated contributions. Dedicated experimental searches at curren…
After the Higgs discovery, the LHC has been looking for new resonances, decaying into pairs of Standard Model (SM) particles. Recently, the CMS experiment observed an excess in the di-photon channel, with a di-photon invariant mass of about 96~GeV. This mass range is similar to the one of an excess observed in the search for the associated production of Higgs bosons with the $Z$ neutral gauge boson at LEP, with the Higgs bosons decaying to bottom quark pairs. On the other hand, the LHCb experiment observed a discrepancy with respect to the SM expectations of the ratio of the decay of $B$-meson…
Lepton number as a fourth color is the intriguing theoretical idea of the famous Pati-Salam (PS) model. While in conventional PS models, the symmetry breaking scale and the mass of the resulting vector leptoquark are stringently constrained by $K_L\toμe$ and $K\toπμe$, the scale can be lowered to a few TeV by adding vector-like fermions. Furthermore, in this case, the intriguing hints for lepton flavour universality violation in $b\to sμ^+μ^-$ and $b\to cτν$ processes can be addressed. Such a setup is naturally achieved by implementing the PS gauge group in the five-dimensional Randall-Sundrum…
We analyze the implications of an extended 2HDM theory in quark masses and mixings, electroweak precision tests, charged lepton flavor violating (CLFV) decays, neutrino trident production, B meson, $g-2$ muon and W anomalies. In the extended 2HDM theory considered in this work, the SM gauge symmetry is enlarged by the local $U(1)^{\prime}$ symmetry, whereas its scalar and fermion sectors are augmented by the inclusion of a gauge singlet scalar and vectorlike fermions, respectively. Within the framework of this model, we determine the allowed ranges of the $Z^{\prime}$ gauge boson mass consiste…
