An accreting system in two-temperature regime, admits multiple solutions for the same set of constants of motion, producing widely different spectra. Comparing observed spectrum with that derived from a randomly chosen accretion solution, will give us a wrong estimation of the accretion parameters of the system. The form of entropy measure obtained by us, have helped in removing the degeneracy of the solutions, allowing us to understand the physics of the system, shorn of arbitrary assumptions. In this work, we have shown how the spectra and luminosities of an accreting system depends on the constants of motion, producing solutions ranging from radiatively inefficient flows to luminous flows. Increase in BH mass quantitatively changes the system, makes the system more luminous and the spectral bandwidth also increases. Higher BH mass system spans from radio to gamma-rays. However, increasing the accretion rate around a BH of certain mass, has little influence in the frequency range of the spectra.
For certain geometric configuration of matter falling onto a rotating black hole, we develop a novel linear perturbation analysis scheme to perform the stability analysis of stationary integral accretion solutions corresponding to the steady state low angular momentum, inviscid, barotropic, irrotational, general relativistic accretion of hydrodynamic fluid. We demonstrate that such steady states remain stable under linear perturbation, and hence the stationary solutions are reliable to probe the black hole spacetime using the accretion phenomena. We report that a relativistic acoustic geometry …

The main purpose of this paper is to obtain analytical solutions for radiative transfer equations related to the vertical structure of accretion discs with finite optical depth. In the non-gray atmosphere, we employ the optical-depth dependent Eddington factor to define the relationship between the mean intensity and radiation stress tensor. Analytical solutions are achieved for two cases: (i) radiative equilibrium, and (ii) a disc with uniform internal heating and both cases are assumed to be in local thermodynamical equilibrium (LTE), too. These solutions enable us to study the probable role…
As of now, all analogue gravity models available in the literature deal with the emergence of an acoustic geometry through linear perturbations of transonic fluids only. It has never been investigated whether the analogue gravity phenomena is solely a consequence of linear perturbations, or rather a generic property of arbitrary perturbations of inhomogeneous, inviscid and irrotational fluids. In the present work, for the first time in the literature, we demonstrate that acoustic spacetimes may be formed through higher order non-linear perturbations, and thus establish that analogue gravity ph…
A thermal soft X-ray component is often detected in low-level accreting neutron stars (NSs), but is not detected in low-level accreting stellar-mass black holes (BHs). In this paper, we investigate the origin of such a thermal soft X-ray component in the framework of the self-similar solution of the advection-dominated accretion flow (ADAF) around NSs. It is assumed that a fraction, $f_{\rm th}$, of the energy transferred onto the surface of the NS is thermalized at the surface of the NS as the soft photons to be scattered in the ADAF. We self-consistently calculate the structure and the corre…
We present global radiation GRMHD simulations of strongly magnetized accretion onto a spinning, stellar mass black hole at sub-Eddington rates. Using a frequency-dependent Monte Carlo procedure for Compton scattering, we self-consistently evolve a two-temperature description of the ion-electron fluid and its radiation field. For an Eddington ratio $L/L_{\rm Edd} \gtrsim 10^{-3}$, the emergent spectrum forms an apparent power law shape from thermal Comptonization up to a cutoff at $\simeq 100$ keV, characteristic of that seen in the hard spectral states of black hole X-ray binary systems. At th…
We make use of the Lagrangian description of fluid motion to highlight certain features in the context of spacetime geometry as emergent phenomena in fluid systems. By using Lagrangian Perturbation Theory (LPT), we find that if the flow is not barotropic it will not be locally irrotational, and as a result, emergent gravity can not be realised for such flow. Our work gives a new perspective of examining the perturbations in a fluid from a different approach (other than Eulerian approach) which is the way of using Lagrangian Perturbation Theory. We make use of Lagrangian description of motion t…

Radiation pressure dominated accretion discs may have turbulent velocities that exceed the electron thermal velocities. Bulk Comptonization by the turbulence may therefore dominate over thermal Comptonization in determining the emergent spectrum. We discuss how to self-consistently resolve and interpret this effect in calculations of spectra of radiation MHD simulations. In particular, we show that this effect is dominated by radiation viscous dissipation and can be treated as thermal Comptonization with an equivalent temperature. We investigate whether bulk Comptonization may provide a physic…
We present a discovery of the correlation between the X-ray spectral (photon) index and mass accretion rate observed in AGN NGC 4051. We analyzed spectral transition episodes observed in NGC 4051 using XMM/Newton, Suzaku and RXTE. We applied a scaling technique for a black hole (BH) mass evaluation which uses a correlation between the photon index and normalization of the seed (disk) component, which is proportional to a mass accretion rate. We developed an analytical model that shows the spectral (photon) index of the BH emergent spectrum undergoes an evolution from lower to higher values dep…
In this work, we perform linear perturbation on general relativistic isothermal accretion onto a non-rotating astrophysical black hole to study the salient features of the corresponding emergent acoustic metric. For spherically symmetric accretion as well as for the axially symmetric matter flow for three different geometric configuration of matter, we perturb the velocity potential, the mass accretion rate, and the integral solution of the time independent part of the general relativistic Euler equation to obtain such acoustic geometry. We provide the procedure to locate the acoustic horizon …
We report on a 120 ks Chandra/HETG spectrum of the black hole GRS 1915+105. The observation was made during an extended and bright soft state in June, 2015. An extremely rich disk wind absorption spectrum is detected, similar to that observed at lower sensitivity in 2007. The very high resolution of the third-order spectrum reveals four components to the disk wind in the Fe K band alone; the fastest has a blue-shift of v = 0.03c. Broadened re-emission from the wind is also detected in the first-order spectrum, giving rise to clear accretion disk P Cygni profiles. Dynamical modeling of the re-e…
In this paper, we explained the observed $Γ_{\rm 2-10keV}-L_{\rm bol}/L_{\rm Edd}$ correlation in luminous active galactic nuclei within the framework of the condensation of the corona around a supermassive black hole (Liu et al. 2015; Qiao & Liu 2017). Specifically, we systemically test the effects of black hole mass $M$, the viscosity parameter $α$, and the magnetic parameter $β$ (with magnetic pressure $p_{\rm m}=B^2/{8π}=(1-β)p_{\rm tot}$, $p_{\rm tot}=p_{\rm gas}+p_{\rm m}$) on the structure of the accretion disc and the corona, as well as the corresponding emergent spectra. It is found t…
Some thermonuclear (type I) X-ray bursts at the neutron star surfaces in low-mass X-ray binaries take place during hard persistent states of the systems. Spectral evolution of these bursts is well described by the atmosphere model of a passively cooling neutron star when the burst luminosity is high enough. The observed spectral evolution deviates from the model predictions when the burst luminosity drops below a critical value of 20-70% of the maximum luminosity. We suggest that these deviations are induced by the additional heating of the accreted particles. We present a method for computati…
For general relativistic, inviscid, axisymmetric flow around Kerr black hole one may choose different flow thickness. The stationary flow equations can be solved using methods of dynamical system to get transonic accretion flows , i.e, flow infalling in the blackhole that turns supersonic from subsonic with decreasing radial distance, or vice versa. This transonic flows are obtained by choosing the particular flow passing through critical points of phase portrait. For certain flow thickness like the one maintaining conical shape, the sonic point coincide with the critical point. But there are …
We study very-high rate spherically symmetric accretion flows onto a massive black hole (BH; 10^2 < M_BH < 10^6 Msun) embedded in a dense gas cloud with a low abundance of metals, performing one-dimensional hydrodynamical simulations which include multi-frequency radiation transfer and non-equilibrium primordial chemistry. We find that rapid gas supply from the Bondi radius at a hyper-Eddington rate can occur without being impeded by radiation feedback when (n/10^5 cm^-3) > (M_BH/10^4Msun)^{-1}(T/10^4 K)^{3/2}, where n and T are the density and temperature of ambient gas outside of the Bondi r…
We consider the reflection of non-polarized radiation from the point-like sources above the accretion discs both the optically thick and optically thin. We investigate the dependence of the polarization of reflected radiation on the aperture angle of incident radiation. The aperture angle is determined by the radius of accretion disc and the height of the source above the disc. For optically thick accretion discs we show that, if the aperture angle is smaller 70 grad, then the wave electric field oscillations of reflected radiation are parallel to the accretion disc plane. For aperture angle g…
