We present a detailed study of the ground state phase diagram of the classical frustrated Heisenberg model on the face-centered-cubic lattice. By considering exchange interactions up till third nearest neighbors, we find commensurate, helimagnetic, as well as noncollinear multi-{\bf Q} orders which include noncoplanar and chiral spin structures. We reveal the presence of subextensively degenerate manifolds that appear at triple points and certain phase boundaries in the phase diagram. Within these manifolds, the spin Hamiltonian can be recast as a complete square of spins on finite motifs, permitting us to identify families of exact ground state spin configurations in real space -- these include randomly stacked ferro- or antiferromagnetically ordered planes and interacting ferromagnetic chains, among others. Finally, we critically investigate the ramifications of our findings on the example of the Ising model, where we exactly enumerate all the states numerically for finite clusters.
Coupled frustrated spin-1/2 chains in high magnetic fields described within the ferro- antiferromagnetic J1-J2 Heisenberg model are studied by the DMRG, the hard core boson, and the spin wave theory approaches. Multipolar phases related to magnon bound states are destroyed (supported) by weak antiferromagnetic (ferromagnetic) interchain couplings Jic. We show that quantum spin nematics might be found for LiVCuO4 whereas for Li(Na)Cu2O2 it is prevented by a sizeable antiferromagnetic Jic. Also for Li2ZrCuO4 with a small antiferromagnetic Jic expected triatic or quartic phases are unlikely, too.…
We investigate the spin $S=1/2$ Heisenberg model on the body centered cubic lattice in the presence of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic nearest-neighbor $J_{1}$, second-neighbor $J_{2}$, and third-neighbor $J_{3}$ exchange interactions. The classical ground state phase diagram obtained by a Luttinger-Tisza analysis is shown to host six different (noncollinear) helimagnetic orders in addition to ferromagnetic, Néel, stripe and planar antiferromagnetic orders. Employing the pseudofermion functional renormalization group (PFFRG) method for quantum spins ($S=1/2$) we find an extended nonmagneti…

Neutron diffraction is used to re-investigate the magnetic phase diagram of the noncentrosymmetric tetragonal antiferromagnet Ba2CuGe2O7. A novel incommensurate double-k magnetic phase is detected near the commensurate-incommensurate phase transition. This phase is stable only for magnetic field closely aligned with the 4-fold symmetry axis. The results emphasize the inadequacy of existing theoretical models for this unique material, and points to additional terms in the Hamiltonian or lattice effects.
Successive phase transitions in a rare-earth monoaxial chiral magnet DyNi$_3$Ga$_{9}$ have been investigated by resonant x-ray diffraction. Magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole degrees of freedom arising from the large angular moment of $J=15/2$, in combination with the symmetric and antisymmetric exchange interactions and the crystal field anisotropy, give rise to competing ordered phases. We show that the antiferromagnetically coupled Dy moments in the $ab$-plane form an incommensurate helimagnetic order with $q\sim(0, 0, 0.43)$ just below $T_{\text{N}}=10$ K, which further exhibits succe…
The helimagnetic order describes a non-collinear spin texture of antiferromagnets, arising from competing exchange interactions. Although collinear antiferromagnets are elemental building blocks of antiferromagnetic (AFM) spintronics, the potential of implementing spintronic functionality in non-collinear antiferromagnets has not been clarified thus far. Here, we propose an AFM helimagnet of EuCo2As2 as a novel single-phase spintronic material that exhibits a remarkable sign reversal of anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR). The contrast in the AMR arises from two electrically distinctive magnet…
The layered magnetic compound Ba_2CuGe_2O_7 exhibits spiral antiferromagnetic order thanks to a Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) anisotropy that is allowed by crystal symmetry. Here we theoretically examine some finer issues such as the experimentally observed lattice pinning of the propagation vector of helical magnetic domains. We find that DM anisotropy alone would lead to incorrect pinning, but agreement with experiment is restored upon including an additional exchange anisotropy that is also consistent with symmetry. The present results shed light on the so-called bisection rule which has been …
The Goldstone mode in the ordered phase of itinerant helimagnets, such as MnSi or FeGe, is determined and shown to have a strongly anisotropic dispersion relation. The softness of this mode is, in a well-defined sense, in between that of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic magnons, respectively. It is shown that this soft mode leads to nonanalytic corrections to Fermi-liquid behavior, with a T-contribution to the specific heat coefficient, and a T^{5/2}-contribution to the resistivity. The quasi-particle inelastic lifetime shows anisotropic behavior in momentum space.
The square-lattice antiferromagnet Ba2CoGe2O7 is studied by means of neutron diffraction and inelastic scattering. This material is isostructural to the well-known Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya helimagnet Ba2CuGe2O7, but exhibits commensurate long-range Neel order at low temperatures. Measurements of the spin wave dispersion relation reveal strong in-plane anisotropy that is the likely reason for the suppression of helimagnetism.
We present a theoretical study of the two-dimensional spiral antiferromagnet Ba2CuGe2O7 in the presence of an external magnetic field. We employ a suitable nonlinear sigma model to calculate the T=0 phase diagram and the associated low-energy spin dynamics for arbitrary canted fields, in general agreement with experiment. In particular, when the field is applied parallel to the c axis, a previously anticipated Dzyaloshinskii-type incommensurate-to-commensurate phase transition is actually mediated by an intermediate phase, in agreement with our earlier theoretical prediction confirmed by the r…
Using Monte Carlo simulations, we study the critical behavior of two models of frustrated XY antiferromagnets with a collinear spin ordering and with an additional twofold degeneracy of the ground state. We consider a classic antiferromagnet on a body-centered cubic lattice with an additional antiferromagnetic exchange interaction between next-nearest spins, and a ferromagnet with an extra antiferromagnetic intralayer exchange. In both models, a single first-order transition on the discrete and continuous order parameters is found. Observed critical pseudo-exponents are in agreement with expon…

Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy was performed to directly probe the low-energy (1-5 meV) electrodynamics of triangular lattice antiferromagnets CuFe1-xGaxO2 (x = 0.00, 0.01, and 0.035). We discovered an electromagnon (electric-field-active magnon) excitation at 2.3 meV in the paraelectric up-up-down-down collinear magnetic phase, while this electromagnon vanishes in the ferroelectric helimagnetic phase. Anti-correlation with noncollinear magnetism excludes the exchange-striction mechanism as the origin of dynamical magnetoelectric coupling, and hence evidences the observation of spin-orbit …
Ac current-driven motions of spiral spin textures can give rise to emergent electric fields acting on conduction electrons. This in turn leads to the emergent electromagnetic induction effect which may realize quantum inductor elements of micrometer size. ${\rm YMn}_{6}{\rm Sn}_{6}$ is a helimagnet with a short helical period (2-3 nm) that shows this type of emergent inductance beyond room temperature. To identify the optimized materials conditions for ${\rm YMn}_{6}{\rm Sn}_{6}$-type room-temperature emergent inductors, we have investigated emergent electromagnetic inductance (EEMI) as the ma…
Crystal and magnetic structures of the mineral centennialite CaCu$_3$(OH)$_6$Cl$_2\cdot0.6$H$_2$O are investigated by means of synchrotron x-ray diffraction and neutron diffraction measurements complemented by density functional theory (DFT) and pseudofermion functional renormalization group (PFFRG) calculations. CaCu$_3$(OH)$_6$Cl$_2\cdot0.6$H$_2$O crystallizes in the $P\bar{3}m1$ space group and Cu$^{2+}$ ions form a geometrically perfect kagome network with antiferromagnetic $J_1$. No intersite disorder between Cu$^{2+}$ and Ca$^{2+}$ ions is detected. CaCu$_3$(OH)$_6$Cl$_2\cdot0.6$H$_2$O e…
The microscopic origins of emergent behaviours in condensed matter systems are encoded in their excitations. In ordinary magnetic materials, single spin-flips give rise to collective dipolar magnetic excitations called magnons. Likewise, multiple spin-flips can give rise to multipolar magnetic excitations in magnetic materials with spin $\mathbf{S} \boldsymbol{\ge} \mathbf{1}$. Unfortunately, since most experimental probes are governed by dipolar selection rules, collective multipolar excitations have generally remained elusive. For instance, only dipolar magnetic excitations have been observe…
The quasi-one-dimensional helimagnet LiCu2O2 was studied by single crystal inelastic neutron scattering. The dispersion relation of spin wave excitations was measured in the vicinity of the principal magnetic Bragg reflection. A spin wave theoretical analysis of the data yields an estimate of the relevant exchange constants and explains the mechanism of geometric frustration that leads to helimagnetism. It is found that the simple antiferromagnetic J_1-J_2 model that was previously proposed is inadequate for LiCu2O2. The experimental findings are generally in a qualitative agreement with first…
We report investigations on the ground state magnetic properties of intermetallic compound GdCu through dc magnetization measurements. GdCu undergoes first order martensitic type structural transition over a wide temperature window of coexisting phases. The high temperature cubic and the low temperature orthorhombic phases have different magnetic character and they show antiferromagnetic and helimagnetic orderings below 145 K and 45 K respectively. We observe clear signature of a glassy magnetic phase below the helimagnetic ordering temperature, which is marked by thermomagnetic irreversibilit…

The entire magnetic phase diagram of the quasi two dimensional (2D) magnet on a distorted triangular lattice KFe(MoO4)2 is outlined by means of magnetization, specific heat, and neutron diffraction measurements. It is found that the spin network breaks down into two almost independent magnetic subsystems. One subsystem is a collinear antiferromagnet that shows a simple spin-flop behavior in applied fields. The other is a helimagnet that instead goes through a series of exotic commensurate-incommensurate phase transformations. In the various phases one observes either true 3D order or quasi-2D …
The metallic compound FeP belongs to the class of materials that feature a complex noncollinear spin order driven by magnetic frustration. While its double-helix magnetic structure with a period $λ_{\text{s}} \approx 5c$, where $c$ is the lattice constant, was previously well determined, the relevant spin-spin interactions that lead to that ground state remain unknown. By performing extensive inelastic neutron scattering measurements, we obtained the spin-excitation spectra in a large part of the momentum-energy space. The spectra show that the magnons are gapped with a gap energy of $\sim$5 m…
Magnetization measurements have been performed on single-crystalline Fe$_{1.1}$Te in pulsed magnetic fields $\mathbf{H}\perp\mathbf{c}$ up to 53 T and temperatures from 4.2 to 65 K. At $T=4.2$ K, a non-reversible reorientation of the antiferromagnetic moments is observed at $μ_0H_R=48$ T as the pulsed field is on the rise. No anomaly is observed at $H_R$ during the fall of the field and, as long as the temperature is unchanged, during both rises and falls of additional field pulses. The transition at $H_R$ is reactivated if the sample is warmed up above the Néel temperature $T_N\simeq60$ K and…
Magnetic-field effect on the magnetic and electric properties in a chiral polar ordered corundum Ni$_2$InSbO$_6$ has been investigated. Single-crystal soft x-ray and neutron diffraction measurements confirm long-wavelength magnetic modulation. The modulation direction tends to align along the magnetic field applied perpendicular to the polar axis, suggesting that the nearly proper-screw type helicoid should be formed below 77\,K. The application of a high magnetic field causes a metamagnetic transition. In a magnetic field applied perpendicular to the polar axis, a helix-to-canted antiferromag…
The frustrated pyrochlore antiferromagnet Gd$_{2}$Ti$_{2}$O$_{7}$ has an unusual partially-ordered magnetic structure at the lowest measurable temperatures. This structure is currently believed to involve four magnetic propagation vectors $\mathbf{k}\in \langle \frac{1}{2} \frac{1}{2} \frac{1}{2} \rangle^*$ in a cubic 4-$\mathbf{k}$ structure, based on analysis of magnetic diffuse-scattering data [J. Phys.: Condens. Matter 16, L321 (2004)]. Here, we present three pieces of evidence against the 4-$\mathbf{k}$ structure. First, we report single-crystal neutron-diffraction measurements as a funct…
A single crystal S=3/2 perfect kagome lattice antiferromagnet $\mathrm{KCr_3(OH)_6(SO_4)_2}$ (Cr-jarosite) has been studied by X-band and high-frequency electron spin resonance (ESR). The g-values perpendicular to the kagome plane (c-axis) and in the plane are determined to be $g_c=1.9704 \pm 0.0002$ and $g_ξ=1.9720 \pm 0.0003$, respectively, by high-frequency ESR observed at 265 K. Antiferromagnetic resonances (AFMR) with the antiferromagnetic gap of 120 GHz are observed at 1.9 K, which is below $T_N$=4.5 K. The analysis of AFMR modes by the conventional molecular field theory shows $d_p=0.27…
We numerically study the spin-$1/2$ breathing kagome lattice. In this variation of the kagome Heisenberg antiferromagnet, the spins belonging to upward and downward facing triangles have different coupling strengths. Using the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method and exact diagonalization, we show that the kagome antiferromagnet spin liquid is extremely robust to this anisotropy. Materials featuring this anisotropy -- and especially the recently studied vanadium compound $[{\mathrm{NH}}_{4}{]}_{2}[{\mathbf{C}}_{7}{\mathbf{H}}_{14}\mathbf{N}][{\mathbf{V}}_{7}{\mathbf{O}}_{6}{\math…
MnSi is a cubic compound with small magnetic anisotropy, which stabilizes a helimagnetic spin spiral that reduces to a ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic state in the long- and short-wavelength limit, respectively. We report a comprehensive inelastic neutron scattering study of the collective magnetic excitations in the helimagnetic state of MnSi. In our study we observe a rich variety of seemingly anomalous excitation spectra, as measured in well over twenty different locations in reciprocal space. Using a model based on only three parameters, namely the measured pitch of the helix, the meas…
We present a detailed study of the magnetic and electronic properties of U$_2$Rh$_3$Si$_5$, a material that has been demonstrated to exhibit a first order antiferromagnetic phase transition. From a high magnetic field study, together with extensive experiments in moderate fields, we establish the magnetic phase diagrams for all crystallographic directions. The possibility of an electronic phase in a narrow interval above the Néel temperature as a precursor of a magnetic phase is discussed.
We study the longitudinal excitations of quantum antiferromagnets on a triangular lattice by a recently proposed microscopic many-body approach based on magnon-density waves. We calculate the full longitudinal excitation spectra of the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model for a general spin quantum number in the isotropic limit. Similar to the square lattice model, we find that, at the center of the first hexagonal Brillouin zone $Γ(\mathbf q=0)$ and at the magnetic ordering wavevectors $\pm[\mathbf Q= (4π/3,0)]$, the excitation spectra become gapless in the thermodynamic limit, due to the slow,…
In the Josephson effect, coherent Cooper pair tunneling is driven by the phase difference between the superconducting order parameters on opposite sides of the junction. By analogy, differences in order parameters across a junction should lead to coherent tunneling of the condensed objects that exist in the broken symmetry state. To exhibit the generality of this phenomenon and make predictions from a realistic model, we study the case of a tunnel junction between two itinerant antiferromagnets. At the mean-field level, we find an equilibrium current of the staggered magnetization through the …
We study the dynamical interplay between ferroelectricity and magnetism in a multiferroic with a helical magnetic order. We show that the dynamical exchange-striction induces a biquadratic interaction between the spins and transverse phonons resulting in quantum fluctuations of the spontaneous ferroelectric polarization $\mathbf{P}$ in the ferroelectric phase. The hybridization between the spin wave and the fluctuation of the electric polarization leads to low-lying transverse phonon modes. Those are perpendicular to $\mathbf{P}$ and to the helical spins at small wave vector but then turn para…
Easy axis antiferromagnets are robust against external magnetic fields of moderate strength. Spin reorientations in strong fields can provide an insight into more subtle properties of antiferromagnetic materials, which are often hidden by their high ground state symmetry. Here, we investigate theoretically effects of curvature in ring-shaped antiferromagnetic achiral anisotropic spin chains in strong magnetic fields. We identify the geometry-governed helimagnetic phase transition above the spin-flop field between vortex and onion states. The curvature-induced Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction …
Breakdown of the conventional spin-wave dynamics and its double-constraint modification in the spin-$\mathbf{\frac{1}{2}}$ triangular-prism Heisenberg antiferromagnet
Using density functional theory we investigate the evolution of the magnetic ground state of NbFe$_{2}$ due to doping by Nb-excess and Fe-excess. We find that non-rigid-band effects, due to the contribution of Fe-\textit{d} states to the density of states at the Fermi level are crucial to the evolution of the magnetic phase diagram. Furthermore, the influence of disorder is important to the development of ferromagnetism upon Nb doping. These findings give a framework in which to understand the evolution of the magnetic ground state in the temperature-doping phase diagram. We investigate the ma…
We present an experimental study of macroscopic and microscopic magnetic anisotropy of a spin tetramer system \cso using torque magnetometry and ESR spectroscopy. Large rotation of macroscopic magnetic axes with temperature observed from torque magnetometry agrees reasonably well with the rotation of the $\mathbf{g}$ tensor above $T \gtrsim 50$~K. Below 50~K, the $\mathbf{g}$ tensor is temperature independent, while macroscopic magnetic axes continue to rotate. Additionally, the susceptibility anisotropy has a temperature dependence which cannot be reconciled with the isotropic Heisenberg mode…
Linear Heisenberg antiferromagnets (HAFs) are chains of spin-$S$ sites with isotropic exchange $J$ between neighbors. Open and periodic boundary conditions return the same ground state energy in the thermodynamic limit, but not the same spin $S_G$ when $S \ge 1$. The ground state of open chains of N spins has $S_G = 0$ or $S$, respectively, for even or odd N. Density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) calculations with different algorithms for even and odd N are presented up to N = 500 for the energy and spin densities $ρ(r,N)$ of edge states in HAFs with $S = 1$, 3/2 and 2. The edge states a…
The effect of chemical substitution on the ground state of the geometrically frustrated antiferromagnet CsCrF$_4$ has been investigated through a neutron powder diffraction experiment. Magnetic Fe-substituted CsCr$_{0.94}$Fe$_{0.06}$F$_{4}$ and nonmagnetic Al-substituted CsCr$_{0.98}$Al$_{0.02}$F$_{4}$ samples are measured, and magnetic Bragg peaks are clearly observed in both samples. Magnetic structure analysis revealed a 120$^{\circ}$ structure having a magnetic propagation vector $\mathbf{k}_{\rm mag}=(0,0,1/2)$ in CsCr$_{0.94}$Fe$_{0.06}$F$_{4}$. For CsCr$_{0.98}$Al$_{0.02}$F$_{4}$, a qua…

We present neutron diffraction data for the cubic-heavy-fermion YbBiPt that show broad magnetic diffraction peaks due to the fragile short-range antiferromagnetic (AFM) order persist under an applied magnetic-field $\mathbf{H}$. Our results for $\mathbf{H}\perp[\bar{1}~1~0]$ and a temperature of $T=0.14(1)$ K show that the $(\frac{1}{2},\frac{1}{2},\frac{3}{2})$ magnetic diffraction peak can be described by the same two-peak lineshape found for $μ_{0}H=0$ T below the Néel temperature of $T_{\text{N}}=0.4$ K. Both components of the peak exist for $μ_{0}H\lesssim1.4 T$, which is well past the AF…
We report the $\mathbf{H}-T$ phase diagram of $S=1/2$ strongly frustrated anisotropic spin chain material linarite PbCuSO$_4$(OH)$_2$ in tilted magnetic fields up to 10 T and temperatures down to 0.2 K. By means of torque magnetometry we investigate the phase diagram evolution as the magnetic field undergoes rotation in $\mathbf{ba}^{\ast}$ and $\mathbf{bc}$ planes. The key finding is the robustness of the high field spin density wave-like phase, which may persist even as the external field goes orthogonal to the chain direction $\mathbf{b}$. In contrast, the intermediate collinear antiferroma…
We use a second-order rotational invariant Green's function method (RGM) and the high-temperature expansion (HTE) to calculate the thermodynamic properties, of the kagome-lattice spin-$S$ Heisenberg antiferromagnet with nearest-neighbor exchange $J$. While the HTE yields accurate results down to temperatures of about $T/S(S+1) \sim J$, the RGM provides data for arbitrary $T \ge 0$. For the ground state we use the RGM data to analyze the $S$-dependence of the excitation spectrum, the excitation velocity, the uniform susceptibility, the spin-spin correlation functions, the correlation length, an…
Motivated by the recent observation of antiferromagnetic correlations in the paramagnetic phase of iron pnictides, we study the finite-temperature spin dynamics of a two-dimensional $J_1-J_2$ antiferromagnet. We consider the paramagnetic phase in the $J_2>J_1$ regime of a $(π,0)$ collinear ground state, using the modified spin wave theory. Below the mean-field Ising transition temperature, we identify short-range anisotropic antiferromagnetic correlations. We show that the dynamical structure factor $\mathcal{S}(\mathbf{q},ω)$ contains elliptic features in the momentum space, and determine its…
Using the spherically symmetric self-consistent Green's function method, we consider thermodynamic properties of the $S=1/2$ $J_1$-$J_2$ Heisenberg model on the 2D square lattice. We calculate the temperature dependence of the spin-spin correlation functions $c_{\mathbf{r}}=\langle S_{\mathbf{0}}^{z}S_{\mathbf{r}}^{z}\rangle $, the gaps in the spin excitation spectrum, the energy $E$ and the heat capacity $C_{V}$ for the whole $J_{1}$--$J_{2}$-circle, i.e. for arbitrary $φ$, $J_1=cos(φ)$, $J_2=sin(φ)$. Due to low dimension there is no long-range order at $T\neq 0$, but the short-range holds th…
Ground state and low-energy excitations of the quasi-one-dimensional antiferromagnet CuSe$_2$O$_5$ were experimentally studied using bulk magnetization, neutron diffraction, muon spin relaxation and antiferromagnetic resonance measurements. Finite interchain interactions promote long-range antiferromagnetic order below $T_N=17$ K. The derived spin canted structure is characterized by the magnetic propagation vector $\mathbf{k}=(1, 0, 0)$ and the reduced magnetic moment $\bm{m}=[0.13(7), 0.50(1), 0.00(8)]μ_B$. The values of the magnetic anisotropies determined from the field and angular depende…
Inelastic neutron scattering measurements have been performed on single crystals of the heavy fermion compound Ce$_{0.925}$La$_{0.075}$Ru$_{2}$Si$_{2}$ in broad energy [0.1, 9.5 meV] and temperature [40 mK, 294 K] ranges in order to address the question of scaling behavior of the dynamical spin susceptibility at the quantum critical point of an itinerant magnetic system. For two wavevectors $\mathbf{Q}$ corresponding to uncorrelated and antiferromagnetically correlated spin fluctuations, it is found that the dynamical spin susceptibility $χ''(\mathbf{Q},E,T)$ is independent of temperature belo…
The self-consistent treatment of real and imaginary renormalizations in the dynamic spin susceptibility for the frustrated Heisenberg model reproduces for cuprates at low doping: a spin spectrum, a saddle point for q near (pi/2,pi/2), nearly constant q-integrated susceptibility for energy less than 150 meV and a scaling law. Frustration increase (optimally doped case) leads to a stripe scenario with a saddle point at q near (pi,pi/2) and $χ_{2D}(ω)$ peak near 30meV. The obtained $χ(\mathbf{q},ω)$ describes neutron scattering results and leads to well-known temperature transport anomalies in do…
The phase diagram of the quasi two-dimensional antiferromagnet BaNi$_{2}$V$_{2}$O$_{8}$ is studied by specific heat, thermal expansion, magnetostriction, and magnetization for magnetic fields applied perpendicular to $\mathbf{c}$. At $μ_0H^{*}\simeq1.5$ T, a crossover to a high-field state, where $T_N(H)$ increases linearly, arises from a competition of intrinsic and field-induced in-plane anisotropies. The pressure dependences of $T_N$ and $H^{*}$ are interpreted using the picture of a pressure-induced in-plane anisotropy. Even at zero field and ambient pressure, in-plane anisotropy cannot be…
The Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the Kagomé lattice is studied in the framework of Schwinger-boson mean-field theory. Two solutions with different symmetries are presented. One solution gives a conventional quantum state with $\mathbf{q}=0$ order for all spin values. Another gives a gapped spin liquid state for spin $S=1/2$ and a mixed state with both $\mathbf{q}=0$ and $\sqrt{3}\times \sqrt{3}$ orders for spin $S>1/2$. We emphasize that the mixed state exhibits two sets of peaks in the static spin structure factor. And for the case of spin $S=1/2$, the gap value we obtained is consistent wit…
We present numerical evidence for the emergence of an extended valence bond solid (VBS) phase at $T=0$ in the kagome $S=1/2$ Heisenberg antiferromagnet with ferromagnetic further-neighbor interactions. The VBS is located at the boundary between two magnetically ordered regions and extends close to the nearest-neighbor Heisenberg point. It exhibits a diamond-like singlet covering pattern with a $12$-site unit-cell. Our results suggest the possibility of a direct, possibly continuous, quantum phase transition from the neighboring $\mathbf{q}=0$ coplanar magnetically ordered phase into the VBS ph…
We compute the self-energy for the half-filled Hubbard model on a square lattice using lattice quantum Monte Carlo simulations and the dynamical vertex approximation. The self-energy is strongly momentum dependent, but it can be parametrized via the non-interacting energy-momentum dispersion $\varepsilon_{\mathbf{k}}$, except for pseudogap features right at the Fermi edge. That is, it can be written as $Σ(\varepsilon_{\mathbf{k}},ω)$, with two energy-like parameters ($\varepsilon$, $ω$) instead of three ($k_x$, $k_y$ and $ω$). The self-energy has two rather broad and weakly dispersing high ene…
We find that the best RVB state of the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ Kagome antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model(spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ KAFH) is described by a $Z_{2}$ gapped mean field ansatz, which hosts a mean field spinon dispersion very different from that of the widely studied $U(1)$ Dirac spin liquid state. However, we find that the physical spin fluctuation spectrum calculated from the Gutzwiller projected RPA(GRPA) theory above such an RVB state is actually gapless and is almost identical to that above the $U(1)$ Dirac spin liquid state. We find that such a peculiar behavior can be attributed to the u…
Topological magnon insulators in insulating Kagomé ferromagnets have been extensively studied in a series of papers. It has been established that Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) is the key ingredient to observe a nontrivial topological magnon with edge modes. However, insulating antiferromagnets on the Kagomé lattice are frustrated systems considered as a playground for studying quantum spin liquid physics. In these systems the DMI can induce a coplanar but noncollinear magnetic orders with a $\mathbf{q}=0$ propagating wavevector. We show that topological magnon bands are absent in thi…
The quantum spin liquid material herbertsmithite is described by an antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on the kagome lattice with non-negligible Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction~(DMI). A well established phase transition to the $\mathbf q=0$ long-range order occurs in this model when the DMI strength increases, but the precise nature of a small-DMI phase remains controversial. Here, we describe a new phase obtained from Schwinger-boson mean-field theory that is stable at small DMI, and which can explain the dispersionless spectrum seen in inelastic neutron scattering experiment by Han et al (…
We study Raman response of Heisenberg antiferromagnets on the $\mathbf{C}_\mathrm{5v}$ Penrose and $\mathbf{C}_\mathrm{8v}$ Ammann-Beenker lattices within and beyond the Loudon-Fleury second-order perturbation scheme intending to explore optical features peculiar to quasiperiodic magnets. Within the Loudon-Fleury mechanism, we find one and only Raman-active mode of $\mathrm{E}_2$ symmetry without any dependence on linear incident and scattered polarizations. Beyond the Loudon-Fleury mechanism, two more symmetry species $\mathrm{A}_1$ and $\mathrm{A}_2$ are activated via dynamic ring exchange a…
