While recent generative models for 2D images achieve impressive visual results, they clearly lack the ability to perform 3D reasoning. This heavily restricts the degree of control over generated objects as well as the possible applications of such models. In this work, we bridge this gap by leveraging recent advances in differentiable rendering. We design a framework that can generate triangle meshes and associated high-resolution texture maps, using only 2D supervision from single-view natural images. A key contribution of our work is the encoding of the mesh and texture as 2D representations, which are semantically aligned and can be easily modeled by a 2D convolutional GAN. We demonstrate the efficacy of our method on Pascal3D+ Cars and CUB, both in an unconditional setting and in settings where the model is conditioned on class labels, attributes, and text. Finally, we propose an evaluation methodology that assesses the mesh and texture quality separately.
Recent advances in differentiable rendering have sparked an interest in learning generative models of textured 3D meshes from image collections. These models natively disentangle pose and appearance, enable downstream applications in computer graphics, and improve the ability of generative models to understand the concept of image formation. Although there has been prior work on learning such models from collections of 2D images, these approaches require a delicate pose estimation step that exploits annotated keypoints, thereby restricting their applicability to a few specific datasets. In thi…
Latent diffusion models for image generation have crossed a quality threshold which enabled them to achieve mass adoption. Recently, a series of works have made advancements towards replicating this success in the 3D domain, introducing techniques such as point cloud VAE, triplane representation, neural implicit surfaces and differentiable rendering based training. We take another step along this direction, combining these developments in a two-step pipeline consisting of 1) a triplane VAE which can learn latent representations of textured meshes and 2) a conditional diffusion model which gene…

As several industries are moving towards modeling massive 3D virtual worlds, the need for content creation tools that can scale in terms of the quantity, quality, and diversity of 3D content is becoming evident. In our work, we aim to train performant 3D generative models that synthesize textured meshes which can be directly consumed by 3D rendering engines, thus immediately usable in downstream applications. Prior works on 3D generative modeling either lack geometric details, are limited in the mesh topology they can produce, typically do not support textures, or utilize neural renderers in t…

This paper presents a method to reconstruct high-quality textured 3D models from both multi-view and single-view images. The reconstruction is posed as an adaptation problem and is done progressively where in the first stage, we focus on learning accurate geometry, whereas in the second stage, we focus on learning the texture with a generative adversarial network. In the generative learning pipeline, we propose two improvements. First, since the learned textures should be spatially aligned, we propose an attention mechanism that relies on the learnable positions of pixels. Secondly, since disc…
If a picture is worth thousand words, a moving 3d shape must be worth a million. We build upon the success of recent generative methods that create images fitting the semantics of a text prompt, and extend it to the controlled generation of 3d objects. We present a novel algorithm for the creation of textured 3d meshes, controlled by text prompts. Our method creates aesthetically pleasing high resolution articulated 3d meshes, and opens new possibilities for automation and AI control of 3d assets. We call it "ClipMatrix" because it leverages CLIP text embeddings to breed new digital 3d creatur…
While NeRF-based 3D-aware image generation methods enable viewpoint control, limitations still remain to be adopted to various 3D applications. Due to their view-dependent and light-entangled volume representation, the 3D geometry presents unrealistic quality and the color should be re-rendered for every desired viewpoint. To broaden the 3D applicability from 3D-aware image generation to 3D-controllable object generation, we propose the factorized representations which are view-independent and light-disentangled, and training schemes with randomly sampled light conditions. We demonstrate the s…

Numerous methods have been proposed for probabilistic generative modelling of 3D objects. However, none of these is able to produce textured objects, which renders them of limited use for practical tasks. In this work, we present the first generative model of textured 3D meshes. Training such a model would traditionally require a large dataset of textured meshes, but unfortunately, existing datasets of meshes lack detailed textures. We instead propose a new training methodology that allows learning from collections of 2D images without any 3D information. To do so, we train our model to explai…
We present a technique for zero-shot generation of a 3D model using only a target text prompt. Without any 3D supervision our method deforms the control shape of a limit subdivided surface along with its texture map and normal map to obtain a 3D asset that corresponds to the input text prompt and can be easily deployed into games or modeling applications. We rely only on a pre-trained CLIP model that compares the input text prompt with differentiably rendered images of our 3D model. While previous works have focused on stylization or required training of generative models we perform optimizati…

Textured meshes are becoming an increasingly popular representation combining the 3D geometry and radiometry of real scenes. However, semantic segmentation algorithms for urban mesh have been little investigated and do not exploit all radiometric information. To address this problem, we adopt an approach consisting in sampling a point cloud from the textured mesh, then using a point cloud semantic segmentation algorithm on this cloud, and finally using the obtained semantic to segment the initial mesh. In this paper, we study the influence of different parameters such as the sampling method, t…

We present a system for learning full-body neural avatars, i.e. deep networks that produce full-body renderings of a person for varying body pose and camera position. Our system takes the middle path between the classical graphics pipeline and the recent deep learning approaches that generate images of humans using image-to-image translation. In particular, our system estimates an explicit two-dimensional texture map of the model surface. At the same time, it abstains from explicit shape modeling in 3D. Instead, at test time, the system uses a fully-convolutional network to directly map the co…

Objective visual quality assessment of 3D models is a fundamental issue in computer graphics. Quality assessment metrics may allow a wide range of processes to be guided and evaluated, such as level of detail creation, compression, filtering, and so on. Most computer graphics assets are composed of geometric surfaces on which several texture images can be mapped to 11 make the rendering more realistic. While some quality assessment metrics exist for geometric surfaces, almost no research has been conducted on the evaluation of texture-mapped 3D models. In this context, we present a new subject…
We propose a novel Bayesian nonparametric method to learn translation-invariant relationships on non-Euclidean domains. The resulting graph convolutional Gaussian processes can be applied to problems in machine learning for which the input observations are functions with domains on general graphs. The structure of these models allows for high dimensional inputs while retaining expressibility, as is the case with convolutional neural networks. We present applications of graph convolutional Gaussian processes to images and triangular meshes, demonstrating their versatility and effectiveness, com…

We present an automated approach to detect and longitudinally track skin lesions on 3D total-body skin surface scans. The acquired 3D mesh of the subject is unwrapped to a 2D texture image, where a trained objected detection model, Faster R-CNN, localizes the lesions within the 2D domain. These detected skin lesions are mapped back to the 3D surface of the subject and, for subjects imaged multiple times, we construct a graph-based matching procedure to longitudinally track lesions that considers the anatomical correspondences among pairs of meshes and the geodesic proximity of corresponding le…
Models for semantic segmentation require a large amount of hand-labeled training data which is costly and time-consuming to produce. For this purpose, we present a label fusion framework that is capable of improving semantic pixel labels of video sequences in an unsupervised manner. We make use of a 3D mesh representation of the environment and fuse the predictions of different frames into a consistent representation using semantic mesh textures. Rendering the semantic mesh using the original intrinsic and extrinsic camera parameters yields a set of improved semantic segmentation images. Due t…
Generative modeling of 3D shapes has become an important problem due to its relevance to many applications across Computer Vision, Graphics, and VR. In this paper we build upon recently introduced 3D mesh-convolutional Variational AutoEncoders which have shown great promise for learning rich representations of deformable 3D shapes. We introduce a supervised generative 3D mesh model that disentangles the latent shape representation into independent generative factors. Our extensive experimental analysis shows that learning an explicitly disentangled representation can both improve random shape …

Recovering a textured 3D mesh from a monocular image is highly challenging, particularly for in-the-wild objects that lack 3D ground truths. In this work, we present MeshInversion, a novel framework to improve the reconstruction by exploiting the generative prior of a 3D GAN pre-trained for 3D textured mesh synthesis. Reconstruction is achieved by searching for a latent space in the 3D GAN that best resembles the target mesh in accordance with the single view observation. Since the pre-trained GAN encapsulates rich 3D semantics in terms of mesh geometry and texture, searching within the GAN ma…
Face recognition is a prevailing authentication solution in numerous biometric applications. Physical adversarial attacks, as an important surrogate, can identify the weaknesses of face recognition systems and evaluate their robustness before deployed. However, most existing physical attacks are either detectable readily or ineffective against commercial recognition systems. The goal of this work is to develop a more reliable technique that can carry out an end-to-end evaluation of adversarial robustness for commercial systems. It requires that this technique can simultaneously deceive black-b…

Automated semantic segmentation and object detection are of great importance in geospatial data analysis. However, supervised machine learning systems such as convolutional neural networks require large corpora of annotated training data. Especially in the geospatial domain, such datasets are quite scarce. Within this paper, we aim to alleviate this issue by introducing a new annotated 3D dataset that is unique in three ways: i) The dataset consists of both an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) laser scanning point cloud and a 3D textured mesh. ii) The point cloud features a mean point density of a…

We present a deep learning pipeline that leverages network self-prior to recover a full 3D model consisting of both a triangular mesh and a texture map from the colored 3D point cloud. Different from previous methods either exploiting 2D self-prior for image editing or 3D self-prior for pure surface reconstruction, we propose to exploit a novel hybrid 2D-3D self-prior in deep neural networks to significantly improve the geometry quality and produce a high-resolution texture map, which is typically missing from the output of commodity-level 3D scanners. In particular, we first generate an initi…

The analysis of deforming 3D surface meshes is accelerated by autoencoders since the low-dimensional embeddings can be used to visualize underlying dynamics. But, state-of-the-art mesh convolutional autoencoders require a fixed connectivity of all input meshes handled by the autoencoder. This is due to either the use of spectral convolutional layers or mesh dependent pooling operations. Therefore, the types of datasets that one can study are limited and the learned knowledge cannot be transferred to other datasets that exhibit similar behavior. To address this, we transform the discretization …

We proposed a convolutional neural network for vertex classification on 3-dimensional dental meshes, and used it to detect teeth margins. An expanding layer was constructed to collect statistic values of neighbor vertex features and compute new features for each vertex with convolutional neural networks. An end-to-end neural network was proposed to take vertex features, including coordinates, curvatures and distance, as input and output each vertex classification label. Several network structures with different parameters of expanding layers and a base line network without expanding layers wer…
Existing approaches for 3D garment reconstruction either assume a predefined template for the garment geometry (restricting them to fixed clothing styles) or yield vertex colored meshes (lacking high-frequency textural details). Our novel framework co-learns geometric and semantic information of garment surface from the input monocular image for template-free textured 3D garment digitization. More specifically, we propose to extend PeeledHuman representation to predict the pixel-aligned, layered depth and semantic maps to extract 3D garments. The layered representation is further exploited to …

This paper presents new designs of graph convolutional neural networks (GCNs) on 3D meshes for 3D object segmentation and classification. We use the faces of the mesh as basic processing units and represent a 3D mesh as a graph where each node corresponds to a face. To enhance the descriptive power of the graph, we introduce a 1-ring face neighbourhood structure to derive novel multi-dimensional spatial and structure features to represent the graph nodes. Based on this new graph representation, we then design a densely connected graph convolutional block which aggregates local and regional fea…
The primary issue in inverse halftoning is removing noisy dots on flat areas and restoring image structures (e.g., lines, patterns) on textured areas. Hence, a new structure-aware deep convolutional neural network that incorporates two subnetworks is proposed in this paper. One subnetwork is for image structure prediction while the other is for continuous-tone image reconstruction. First, to predict image structures, patch pairs comprising continuous-tone patches and the corresponding halftoned patches generated through digital halftoning are trained. Subsequently, gradient patches are generat…

Convolutional neural networks (CNN) have been broadly studied on images, videos, graphs, and triangular meshes. However, it has seldom been studied on tetrahedral meshes. Given the merits of using volumetric meshes in applications like brain image analysis, we introduce a novel interpretable graph CNN framework for the tetrahedral mesh structure. Inspired by ChebyNet, our model exploits the volumetric Laplace-Beltrami Operator (LBO) to define filters over commonly used graph Laplacian which lacks the Riemannian metric information of 3D manifolds. For pooling adaptation, we introduce new object…

The underlying dynamics and patterns of 3D surface meshes deforming over time can be discovered by unsupervised learning, especially autoencoders, which calculate low-dimensional embeddings of the surfaces. To study the deformation patterns of unseen shapes by transfer learning, we want to train an autoencoder that can analyze new surface meshes without training a new network. Here, most state-of-the-art autoencoders cannot handle meshes of different connectivity and therefore have limited to no generalization capacities to new meshes. Also, reconstruction errors strongly increase in compariso…
