We investigate reinforced non-linear urns with interacting types, and show that where there are three interacting types there are phenomena which do not occur with two types. In a model with three types where the interactions between the types are symmetric, we show the existence of a double phase transition with three phases: as well as a phase with an almost sure limit where each of the three colours is equally represented and a phase with almost sure convergence to an asymmetric limit, which both occur with two types, there is also an intermediate phase where both symmetric and asymmetric limits are possible. In a model with anti-symmetric interactions between the types, we show the existence of a phase where the proportions of the three colours cycle and do not converge to a limit, alongside a phase where the proportions of the three colours can converge to a limit where each of the three is equally represented.
We consider a model of N two-colors urns in which the reinforcement of each urn depends also on the content of all the other urns. This interaction is of mean-field type and it is tuned by a parameter $α$ in [0,1]; in particular, for $α=0$ the N urns behave as N independent Polya's urns. As shown in [9], for $α>0$ urns synchronize, in the sense that the fraction of balls of a given color converges a.s. to the same (random) limit in all urns. In this paper we study fluctuations around this synchronized regime. The scaling of these fluctuations depends on the parameter $α$. In particular the sta…
We introduce a general two colour interacting urn model on a finite directed graph, where each urn at a node, reinforces all the urns in its out-neighbours according to a fixed, non-negative and balanced reinforcement matrix. We show that the fraction of balls of either colour converges almost surely to a deterministic limit if either the reinforcement is not of Pólya type or if the graph is such that every vertex with non-zero in-degree can be reached from some vertex with zero in-degree. We also obtain joint central limit theorems, with appropriate scaling, around the vector of limiting prop…
The aim of this paper is to study the asymptotic behavior of strongly reinforced interacting urns with partial memory sharing. The reinforcement mechanism considered is as follows: draw at each step and for each urn a white or black ball from either all the urns combined (with probability $p$) or the urn alone (with probability $1-p$) and add a new ball of the same color to this urn. The probability of drawing a ball of a certain color is proportional to $w_k$ where $k$ is the number of balls of this color. The higher the $p$, the more memory is shared between the urns. The main results can be…
Interacting urns with exponential reinforcement were introduced and studied in Launay (2011). As its parameter $ρ$ tends to $\iy$, this reinforcement mechanism converges to the "generalized" reinforcement, in which the probability of draw may be 0 or 1 for some of the colors, depending on the current configuration. For a single urn, the generalized reinforcement is easy to analyse. We introduce and study the generalized interacting urn model with two or more urns and two colors. Our results concern the law of the so-called non-conformist urns, and answer in the asymptotic sense one of the open…
We consider a system of urns of Polya-type, with balls of two colors; the reinforcement of each urn depends both on the content of the same urn and on the average content of all urns. We show that the urns synchronize almost surely, in the sense that the fraction of balls of a given color converges almost surely, as the time goes to infinity, to the same limit for all urns. A normal approximation for a large number of urns is also obtained.
A competition process is a continuous time Markov chain that can be interpreted as a system of interacting birth-and-death processes, the components of which evolve subject to a competitive interaction. This paper is devoted to the study of the long-term behaviour of such a competition process, where a component of the process increases with a linear birth rate and decreases with a rate given by a linear function of other components. A zero is an absorbing state for each component, that is, when a component becomes zero, it stays zero forever (and we say that this component becomes extinct). W…
We consider systems of interacting Generalized Friedman's Urns (GFUs) having irreducible mean replacement matrices. The interaction is modeled through the probability to sample the colors from each urn, that is defined as convex combination of the urn proportions in the system. From the weights of these combinations we individuate subsystems of urns evolving with different behaviors. We provide a complete description of the asymptotic properties of urn proportions in each subsystem by establishing limiting proportions, convergence rates and Central Limit Theorems. The main proofs are based on …

We introduce a class of reinforcement models where, at each time step $t$, one first chooses a random subset $A_t$ of colours (independent of the past) from $n$ colours of balls, and then chooses a colour $i$ from this subset with probability proportional to the number of balls of colour $i$ in the urn raised to the power $α>1$. We consider stability of equilibria for such models and establish the existence of phase transitions in a number of examples, including when the colours are the edges of a graph, a context which is a toy model for the formation and reinforcement of neural connections.
We introduce a new model for contagion spread using a network of interacting finite memory two-color Pólya urns, which we refer to as the finite memory interacting Pólya contagion network. The urns interact in the sense that the probability of drawing a red ball (which represents an infection state) for a given urn, not only depends on the ratio of red balls in that urn but also on the ratio of red balls in the other urns in the network, hence accounting for the effect of spatial contagion. The resulting network-wide contagion process is a discrete-time finite-memory ($M$th order) Markov proce…
We study a system of interacting urns where balls of different colour/type compete for their survival, and annihilate upon contact. For competition between two types, the underlying graph (finite and connected), determining the interaction between the urns, is known to be irrelevant for the possibility of coexistence, whereas for $K\ge3$ types the structure of the graph does affect the possibility of coexistence. We show that when the underlying graph is a cycle, competition between $K\ge3$ types almost surely has a single survivor, thus establishing a conjecture of Griffiths, Janson, Morris a…
The present paper is dedicated to the 2-dimensional Interacting Partially Directed Self Avoiding Walk constrained to remain in the upper-half plan and interacting with the horizontal axis. The model has been introduced in \cite{F90} to investigate the behavior of a homopolymer dipped in a poor solvent and adsorbed along a horizontal hard wall. It is known to undergo a collapse transition between an extended phase, inside which typical configurations of the polymer have a large horizontal extension (comparable to their total size), and a collapsed phase inside which the polymer looks like a glo…
We find the transition kernels for four Markovian interacting particle systems on the line, by proving that each of these kernels is intertwined with a Karlin-McGregor type kernel. The resulting kernels all inherit the determinantal structure from the Karlin-McGregor formula, and have a similar form to Schutz's kernel for the totally asymmetric simple exclusion process.
This paper presents the exact expressions of the transition probabilities of some non-determinantal Bethe ansatz solvable interacting particle systems: the two-sided PushASEP, the asymmetric avalanche process and the asymmetric zero range process. The time integrated currents of the asymmetric avalanche process and the asymmetric zero range process are immediate from the results of the asymmtric simple exclusion process.
