We suggest a minimal model for GeV-scale Majorana Dark Matter (DM) coupled to the standard model lepton sector via a charged scalar singlet. We show that there is an anti-correlation between the spin-independent DM-Nucleus scattering cross-section ($σ_{\mathrm{SI}}$) and the DM relic density for parameters values allowed by various theoretical and experimental constraints. Moreover, we find that even when DM couplings are of order unity, $σ_{\mathrm{SI}}$ is below the current experimental bound but above the neutrino floor. Furthermore, we show that the considered model can be probed at high-energy lepton colliders using e.g. the mono-Higgs production and same-sign charged Higgs pair production.
The effective Majorana mass which determines the rate of the neutrinoless double beta decay, |<m>|, is considered in the case of three-neutrino mixing and massive Majorana neutrinos. Assuming a rather precise determination of the parameters characterizing the neutrino oscillation solutions of the solar and atmospheric neutrino problems has been made, we discuss the information a measurement of |<m>| > (0.005 - 0.010) eV can provide on the value of the lightest neutrino mass and on the CP-violation in the lepton sector. The implications of combining a measurement of |<m>| with future measuremen…
We consider the lepton-number-violating processes in $Λ_b$/$Λ_c$ decays mediated by on-shell GeV-scale sterile neutrino. We calculate the branching ratio for the following processes: $Λ_b^{0} \rightarrow \mathcal{B}^+ μ^{-}μ^- π^+$, where $\mathcal{B}^+$ is $Λ_c^+$ or proton, and $Λ_c^{+} \rightarrow Λμ^{+}μ^+ π^-$, as function of the mass of the sterile neutrino $m_N$ and the heavy-light mixing coefficient of the extended Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata (PMNS) matrix $|U_{μN}|^2$. The effect of finite detector size is included in our calculation. After comparing the theoretical effective bran…
We review the non-trivial issue of the relativistic description of a quantum mechanical system that, contrary to a common belief, kept theoreticians busy from the end of 1920s to (at least) mid 1940s. Starting by the well-known works by Klein-Gordon and Dirac, we then give an account of the main results achieved by a variety of different authors, ranging from de Broglie to Proca, Majorana, Fierz-Pauli, Kemmer, Rarita-Schwinger and many others. A particular interest comes out for the general problem of the description of particles with \textit{arbitrary} spin, introduced (and solved) by Majoran…
As the planning stages for a high energy muon collider enter a more concrete era, an important question arises as to what new physics could be uncovered. A TeV-scale muon collider is also a vector boson fusion (VBF) factory with a very clean background, and as such it is a promising environment to look for new physics that couples to the electroweak (EW) sector. In this paper, we explore the ability of a future TeV-scale muon collider to search for Majorana and Dirac Heavy Neutral Leptons (HNLs) produced via EW bosons. Employing a model-independent, conservative approach, we present an estimat…
We study the collider phenomenology of a simplified model containing a right-handed $W$ in which the $W_R$ couples predominantly to the third generation in the quark sector. The model also includes a light Majorana neutrino, with $M_1\sim {\cal O}(100)$ GeV, giving rise to lepton-number-violating signatures that are visible at the LHC. Taking into account all the searches from the LHC and Tevatron, we find that this $W_R$ can still be as light as $M_R \sim 300$ GeV. We show that this type of new physics, and others like it, can be detected at the LHC using final states with three same-sign sam…
One natural way to understand the excess of the measured $H\toγγ$ rate over the standard model (SM) expectation at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is to have charged scalar bosons, existing in most of the SM extensions. Motivated by this LHC result, we explore if it also sheds light on solving the small neutrino mass generation problem. We concentrate on a class of models with high dimensional representations of scalars to realize Majorana neutrino masses at two-loop level without imposing any new symmetry. In these models, multi scalars with the electric charges higher than two are naturally …
A natural extension of the standard $SU(2)_{\rm L} \times U(1)_{\rm Y}$ gauge model to accommodate massive neutrinos is to introduce one Higgs triplet and three right-handed Majorana neutrinos, leading to a $6\times 6$ neutrino mass matrix which contains three $3\times 3$ sub-matrices $M_{\rm L}$, $M_{\rm D}$ and $M_{\rm R}$. We show that three light Majorana neutrinos (i.e., the mass eigenstates of $ν_e$, $ν_μ$ and $ν_τ$) are exactly massless in this model, if and only if $M_{\rm L} = M_{\rm D} M_{\rm R}^{-1} M_{\rm D}^T$ exactly holds. This no-go theorem implies that small but non-vanishing …
The production of heavy sterile neutrinos from $π^-,K^-$ decay at rest yields charged leptons with negative helicity (positive for $π^+,K^+$). We obtain the branching ratio for this process and argue that a Stern-Gerlach filter leads to spatially separated domains of both helicity components with abundances determined by the branching ratio. Complemented with a search of monochromatic peaks, this setup can yield both the mass and mixing angles for sterile neutrinos with masses in the range $3 MeV \lesssim m_s \lesssim 414 MeV$ in next generation high intensity experiments. We also study oscill…
We discuss some generic properties of lepton number violating (\Lv) processes and their relation to different entries of the Majorana neutrino mass matrix. Present and near future experiments searching for these processes, except the neutrinoless double beta decay, are unable to probe light(eV mass region) and heavy(hundred GeV mass region) neutrinos. On the other hand due to the effect of a resonant enhancement, some of \Lv decays can be very sensitive to the intermediate mass neutrinos with typical masses in hundred MeV region. These neutrinos may appear as admixtures of the three active and…
A natural extension of the standard model to accommodate massive neutrinos is to introduce one Higgs triplet and three right-handed Majorana neutrinos, leading to a 6 \times6 neutrino mass matrix. We show that three light Majorana neutrinos (i.e., the mass eigenstates of ν_e, ν_μand ν_τ) are exactly massless, if and only if M_L = M_D M^{-1}_R M^T_D exactly holds in this seesaw model. We propose three simple Type-II seesaw scenarios with broken A_4 \times U(1)_X flavor symmetry to interpret the observed neutrino mass spectrum and neutrino mixing pattern. Such a TeV-scale neutrino model can be t…
The existence of the tiny neutrino mass and the flavor mixing can be naturally explained by type-I Seesaw model which is probably the simplest extension of the Standard Model (SM) using Majorana type SM gauge singlet heavy Right Handed Neutrinos (RHNs). If the RHNs are around the Electroweak(EW)-scale having sizable mixings with the SM light neutrinos, they can be produced at the high energy colliders such as Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and future $100$ TeV proton-proton (pp) collider through the characteristic signatures with same sign di-lepton introducing lepton number violations(LNV). On t…
Conventional indirect dark matter (DM) searches look for an excess in the electromagnetic emission from the sky that cannot be attributed to known astrophysical sources, but its polarisation has not been explored to date. In this proceeding, we argue that photon polarisation is an important feature to understand new physics interactions. In particular, circular polarisation can be generated from Beyond the Standard Model interactions if they violate parity and there is an asymmetry in the number density of the initial state particles which participate in the interaction. We consider a simplifi…
Assuming that Dark Matter (DM) is made of fermions in the sub-GeV mass range with interactions dominated by electromagnetic moments of higher order, such as the electric and magnetic dipoles or the anapole moment, we show that direct detection experiments searching for atomic ionisation events in xenon targets can shed light on whether DM is a Dirac or Majorana particle. Specifically, we find that between about 45 (120) and 610 (1700) signal events are required to reject Majorana DM in favour of Dirac DM with a statistical significance corresponding to 3 (5) standard deviations. The exact numb…
We study the lepton portal dark matter (DM) model in which the relic abundance is determined by the portal coupling among the Majorana fermion DM candidate $χ$, the singlet charged scalar mediator $S^\pm$ and the Standard Model (SM) right-handed lepton. The direct and indirect searches are not sensitive to this model. This article studies the lepton portal coupling as well as the scalar portal coupling (between $S^\pm$ and SM Higgs boson), as the latter is generally allowed in the Lagrangian. The inclusion of scalar portal coupling not only significantly enhances the LHC reach via the $gg\to h…
We first study the hadronic lepton flavor violating tau decays within the littlest Higgs model with T-parity (including one or two pseudoscalars, or a vector resonance). We consider the case where only T-odd particles and partner fermions contribute, and also its extension including Majorana neutrinos coming from an inverse seesaw. In both cases our mean values lie only one order of magnitude below current upper limits, strengthening the case of searching for these decays in the quest for new physics.
We discuss prospects of searching for a dark photon ($A'$) which serves as mediator between Standard model (SM) particles and light dark matter (LDM) by using the combined results from the NA64 experiment at the CERN SPS running in high-energy electron (NA64e) and muon (NA64$μ$) modes. We discuss the most natural values and upper bounds on the $A'$ coupling constant to LDM and show they are lying in the range accessible at NA64. While for the projected $ 5\times10^{12}$ electrons on target (EOT) NA64e is able to probe the scalar and Majorana LDM scenarios, the combined NA64e and NA64$μ$ result…
We explore the anomaly-cancellation constraints on simplified dark matter (DM) models with an extra U(1)$^\prime$ gauge boson $Z'$. We show that, if the Standard Model (SM) fermions are supplemented by a single DM fermion $χ$ that is a singlet of the SM gauge group, and the SM quarks have non-zero U(1)$^\prime$ charges, the SM leptons must also have non-zero U(1)$^\prime$ charges, in which case LHC searches impose strong constraints on the $Z'$ mass. Moreover, the DM fermion $χ$ must have a vector-like U(1)$^\prime$ coupling. If one requires the DM particle to have a purely axial U(1)$^\prime$…

Various mechanisms have been developed to explain the origin of Majorana neutrino masses. One of them is radiative mass generation. Two-loop mass generation is of particular interest because the masses and couplings of new particles propagating in the loop can be in the range testable by other experiments and observations. In order for the radiative mass suppression to be reliable, it should be guaranteed that lower loop contributions are suppressed. Based on loop topology and the form of electroweak presentation of the particles propagating in the loop, one can determine whether a lower---and…
Nuclear double beta decay, an extremely rare radioactive decay process, is - in one of its variants - one of the most exciting means of research into particle physics beyond the standard model. The large progress in sensitivity of experiments searching for neutrinoless double beta decay in the last two decades - based largely on the use of large amounts of enriched source material in "active source experiments" - has lead to the observation of the occurrence of this process in nature (on a 6.4 sigma level), with the largest half-life ever observed for a nuclear decay process (2.2 x 10^{25} y).…
