An applied field can modulate optical signals by resonance shifting via the Stark effect. The optical Stark effect (OSE) uses ultrafast light in the transparency region of a material to shift resonances with speeds limited by the pulse duration or system coherence. In this Letter we investigate the OSE in resonant optical harmonic generation (OHG) using the ground state exciton transition of WS2 with a variety of morphologies. Multidimensional pump-harmonic-probe measurements, in which the probe is second- or third-harmonic emission, reveal not only large Stark shifts that are commensurate with the large optical susceptibilities common to WS2 excitons, but also behaviors more complex than simple OSE treatments predict. We show how a new manifestation of the Stark Effect, brought forth by coherent photon exchange between the pump and OHG fundamental fields, can strongly enhance or suppress OHG.
We describe how a coherent optical drive that is near-resonant with the upper rungs of a three-level ladder system, in conjunction with a short pulse excitation, can be used to provide a frequency-tunable source of on-demand single photons. Using an intuitive master equation model, we identify two distinct regimes of device operation: (i) for a resonant drive, the source operates using the Autler-Townes effect, and (ii) for an off-resonant drive, the source exploits the ac Stark effect. The former regime allows for a large frequency tuning range but coherence suffers from timing jitter effects…
In this paper, we study the exciton absorption spectra in InGaAs prolate ellipsoidal quantum dots when a strong pump laser resonant with electron quantized levels is active. Our obtained results by renormalized wavefunction theory show that, under suitable conditions, the initial exciton absorption peak is split into two new peaks as the evidence of the existence of the three-level optical Stark effect of excitons. We have suggested an explanation of the origin of the effect as well as investigating the effect of pump field energy, size, and geometric shape of the quantum dots on effect charac…
Inspired by a recent experiment [Phys. Rev. Letts. \textbf{122}, 253201(2019)] that an unprecedented quantum interference was observed in the way of Stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) due to the coexisting resonant- and detuned-STIRAPs, we comprehensively study this effect for uncovering its robustness towards the external-field fluctuations of laser noise, imperfect resonance condition as well as the excited-state decaying. We verify that, an auxiliary dynamical phase accumulated in hold time caused by the quasi-dark state can sensitively manipulate the visibility and frequency of th…
Determination of enantiomeric excess is important and remains challenges. We theoretically propose a new spectroscopic method for this issue based on the chirality-dependent AC Stark effects in cyclic three-level models under the three-photon resonance condition. The enantiomeric excess of the chiral mixture is determined by comparing the amplitudes of the two chosen AC Stark peaks in the Fourier transform spectrum of the induced polarizations, which are (approximately) proportional to the molecule numbers of the two enantiomers, respectively. Comparing with current spectroscopic methods based…

The long standing issue of separating resonant from non-resonant processes in extreme nonlinear optics is resolved. The theoretical formalism is applied to high harmonic generation (HHG) in solids and reveals a deeper view into the dominant laser and material dependent mechanisms. Mid-infrared driven HHG in semiconductors is dominated by the resonant interband current. As a result of the dynamic Stark shift, virtual processes gain in importance in near-infrared driven HHG in dielectrics. Finally, our analysis identifies limitations of microscopic one-electron-hole theories.

High-index dielectric metasurfaces featuring Mie-type electric and magnetic resonances have been of a great interest in a variety of applications such as imaging, sensing, photovoltaics and others, which led to the necessity of an efficient large-scale fabrication technique. To address this, here we demonstrate the use of single-pulse laser interference for direct patterning of an amorphous silicon film into an array of Mie resonators. The proposed technique is based on laser-interference-induced dewetting. A precise control of the laser pulse energy enables the fabrication of ordered dielectr…
We present a new waveguided-sensing configuration combining the advantages of two effects, namely, two-wave interference and multiple-wave interference in a single sensing device. The sensor is accessed vertically from above by means of a three-port grating, and its readout can be accomplished both in an up-reflective or waveguided mode. The superposition of the two outcoming signals results in a variety of transmission characteristic curves depending on fabrication parameters, which are optimized in order to attain enhanced sensitivity. The sensor is analyzed by means of a simple scattering m…
