The classical Gauss-Green formula for the multidimensional case is generally stated for $C^{1}$ vector fields and domains with $C^{1}$ boundaries. However, motivated by the physical solutions with discontinuity/singularity for Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) and Calculus of Variations, such as nonlinear hyperbolic conservation laws and Euler-Lagrange equations, the following fundamental issue arises:
Does the Gauss-Green formula still hold for vector fields with discontinuity/singularity (such as divergence-measure fields) and domains with rough boundaries?
The objective of this paper is to provide an answer to this issue and to present a short historical review of the contributions by many mathematicians spanning more than two centuries, which have made the discovery of the Gauss-Green formula possible.
We present a new method for the existence and pointwise estimates of a Green's function of non-divergence form elliptic operator with Dini mean oscillation coefficients. We also present a sharp comparison with the corresponding Green's function for constant coefficients equations.
We study the existence of the Green function for an elliptic system in divergence form $-\nabla\cdot a\nabla$ in $\mathbb{R}^d$, with $d>2$. The tensor field $a=a(x)$ is only assumed to be bounded and $λ$-coercive. For almost every point $y \in \mathbb{R}^d$, the existence of a Green's function $G(a; \cdot, y)$ centered in $y$ has been proven in [J. Conlon, A. Giunti and F.Otto, "Green's function for elliptic systems: Delmotte-Deuschel bounds", 2017]. In this paper, we show that the set of points $y \in \mathbb{R}^d$ for which $G(a; \cdot, y)$ does not exist has zero $p$-capacity, for an expon…
In the framework of the first-order differential structure introduced by Gigli, we obtain a Gauss-Green formula on regular bounded open sets of metric measure spaces, valid for BV functions and vector fields with integrable divergence. Then, we study least gradient functions in metric measure spaces using this formula as the main tool.
In the present paper, we consider an elliptic divergence form operator in $\mathbb{R}^n\setminus\mathbb{R}^d$ with $d<n-1$ and prove that its Green function is almost affine, in the sense that the normalized difference between the Green function with a sufficiently far away pole and a suitable affine function at every scale satisfies a Carleson measure estimate. The coefficients of the operator can be very oscillatory, and only need to satisfy some condition similar to the traditional quadratic Carleson condition.
By employing the differential structure recently developed by N. Gigli, we first give a notion of functions of bounded variation ($BV$) in terms of suitable vector fields on a complete and separable metric measure space $(\mathbb{X},d,μ)$ equipped with a non-negative Radon measure $μ$ finite on bounded sets. Then, we extend the concept of divergence-measure vector fields $\mathcal{DM}^p(\mathbb{X})$ for any $p\in[1,\infty]$ and, by simply requiring in addition that the metric space is locally compact, we determine an appropriate class of domains for which it is possible to obtain a Gauss-Green…
In the present paper, we consider an elliptic divergence form operator in the half-space and prove that its Green function is almost affine, or more precisely, that the normalized difference between the Green function and a suitable affine function at every scale satisfies a Carleson measure estimate, provided that the oscillations of the coefficients satisfy the traditional quadratic Carleson condition. The results are sharp, and in particular, it is demonstrated that the class of the operators considered in the paper cannot be improved.
In this paper, we compute universal estimates of eigenvalues of a coupled system of elliptic differential equations in divergence form on a bounded domain in Euclidean space. As an application, we show an interesting case of rigidity inequalities of the eigenvalues of the Laplacian, more precisely, we consider a countable family of bounded domains in Gaussian shrinking soliton that makes the behavior of known estimates of the eigenvalues of the Laplacian invariant by a first-order perturbation of the Laplacian. We also address the Gaussian expanding soliton case in two different settings. We f…
