We study the phenomena of mass inflation using the Ori model for a rotating BTZ black hole that is sufficiently far from extremality, and show that the right Cauchy horizon ($\mathcal{CH}^+_R$) of the BTZ black hole becomes singular. Motivated by the recent analysis of Dias, Reall, Santos [J. High Energy Phys. 12 (2019) 097], we choose the retrograde quasinormal modes to govern the decay of perturbations exterior to the black hole. The resulting model captures the violation of the strong cosmic censorship conjecture near extremality. On the other hand, far from extremality, the $\mathcal{CH}^+_R$ of a BTZ black hole develops a weak null singularity. Our analysis shows a slowly rotating BTZ black hole will respect strong cosmic censorship.
Recently it has been shown that quantum fields can be regular on the inner, Cauchy horizon of a rotating BTZ black hole, which appears to indicate a failure of strong cosmic censorship. We argue that, instead, what these results imply is that the inner horizon remains non-singular when leading-order backreaction of the quantum fields is computed, but, after next-order backreaction is accounted for, it will become singular. Then, strong cosmic censorship will be enforced in the BTZ black hole. We support our claims using a four-dimensional holographic dual of the system, which connects the inst…
The strong cosmic censorship conjecture, whose validation asserts the deterministic nature of general relativity, has been studied for charged BTZ black holes in three dimensional general relativity, as well as for Nth order pure Lovelock gravity in d=2N+1 spacetime dimensions. Through both analytical and numerical routes, we have computed the ratio of the imaginary part of the quasi-normal mode frequencies with the surface gravity at the Cauchy horizon. The lowest of which corresponds to the key parameter associated with violation of strong cosmic censorship conjecture. Our results demonstrat…
As a charged spinning fermion drops into a charged rotating BTZ black hole, we investigate the laws of thermodynamics and weak cosmic censorship conjecture with and without pressure respectively. For the case without pressure, the first law, second law, as well as the weak cosmic censorship are found to be valid. While for the case with pressure, though the first law is still valid, the second law and the weak cosmic censorship conjecture are found to be violable, depending on the charge, angular momentum, AdS radius, and their variations. In addition, in both cases, the configurations of the …
We investigate the stability of the inner horizon of a rotating BTZ black hole. We show that linear perturbations arising from smooth initial data are arbitrarily differentiable at the inner horizon if the black hole is sufficiently close to extremality. This is demonstrated for scalar fields, for massive Chern-Simons fields, for Proca fields, and for massive spin-2 fields. Thus the strong cosmic censorship conjecture is violated by a near-extremal BTZ black hole in a large class of theories. However, we show that a weaker "rough" version of the conjecture is respected. We calculate the renorm…
As charged fermions drop into the BTZ black holes, we check the laws of thermodynamics and weak cosmic censorship conjecture in the normal phase space and extended phase space, where the cosmological parameter and renormalization length are regarded as extensive quantities. In the normal phase space, the first and second law of thermodynamics as well as the weak cosmic censorship are valid. While in the extended phase space, though the first law and weakcosmic censorship conjecture are still valid, the second law is dependent on the variation of the renormalization energy $dK$. In addition, in…
We analyze the gravitational perturbations induced by particles falling into a three dimensional, asymptotically AdS black hole geometry. More specifically, we solve the linearized perturbation equations obtained from the geodesic motion of a ring-like distribution of test particles in the BTZ background. This setup ensures that the U(1) symmetry of the background is preserved. The non-asymptotic flatness of the background raises difficulties in attributing the significance of energy and angular momentum to the conserved quantities of the test particles. This issue is well known but, to the be…
The weak cosmic censorship conjecture in the near-extremal BTZ black hole has been tested by the test particles and fields. It was claimed that this black hole could be overspun. In this paper, we review the thermodynamics and weak cosmic censorship conjecture in BTZ black holes by the scattering of the scalar field. The first law of thermodynamics in the non-extremal BTZ black hole is recovered. For the extremal and near-extremal black holes, due to the divergence of the variation of the entropy, we test the weak cosmic censorship conjecture by evaluating the minimum values of the function $f…
It is well known that ($2+1$) dimensional charged BTZ (Banados, Teitelboim, Zanelli) black hole can be overcharged by a charged scalar field and a charged particle in contrast to their analogues in ($3+1$) and higher dimensions. In this regard, it may play an important role to understand more deeply the properties of the ($2+1$)-dimensional charged black hole in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity. In this paper, we test the validity of the weak cosmic censorship conjecture for the ($2+1$)-dimensional charged black hole in novel EGB theory derived recently by Henniger et. al (2021). We sho…
Investigating the quasinormal modes of a massive scalar field on the 3-dimensional black string (3dBS), we study the strong cosmic censorship (SCC) conjecture for the 3dBS in the T-dual relationship with the 3-dimensional rotating anti-de-Sitter (BTZ) black hole. It is shown that even though geometries of the two spacetimes are quite different, such as asymptotically AdS for the BTZ black hole and asymptotically flat for the 3dBS, the BTZ black hole and the 3dBS share similar properties for the SCC. Concretely speaking, the SCC conjecture can be violated even for asymptotically flat spacetime,…
An exotic Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ) black hole has an angular momentum larger than its mass in three dimension (3D), which suggests the possibility that cosmic censorship could be violated if angular momentum is extracted by the Penrose process. In this paper, we propose a mass formula for the exotic BTZ black hole and show no violation of weak cosmic censorship in the gedanken process above by understanding properly its mass formula. Unlike the other black holes, the total energy of the exotic BTZ black hole is represented by the angular momentum instead of the mass, which supports a b…
In this paper we put forward the idea that the comoving Hubble horizon undergoes multiple stages of contraction (a.k.a. inflationary phase) and expansion. The observable inflation, that produces the CMB anisotropies and generates primordial gravitational waves, follows and is followed by multiple early and late inflations. The trans-Planckian censorship conjecture restricts the duration of each inflationary phases and determines their Hubble rates. Early inflations could start immediately after the universe emerges from the Planck era. It alleviates the initial condition problem for the lower-…
The constraint of trans-Planckian censorship conjecture on brane inflation model is considered. The conjectures put an upper bound on the main parameter including temperature, inflation time, potential, and the tensor-to-scalar ratio parameter $r$. It is determined that the resulting constraint could be more stronger than what we have for the standard inflationary models. The constraint in general depends on the brane tension and it is concluded that the conjecture also confined the value of brane tension in order to have consistency for the model. Confining the brane tension turns into a dete…
For the BTZ black hole in the Einstein gravity, a statistical entropy has been calculated to be equal to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. In this paper, the statistical entropy of the BTZ black hole in the higher curvature gravity is calculated and shown to be equal to the one derived by using the Noether charge method. This suggests that the equivalence of the geometrical and statistical entropies of the black hole is retained in the general diffeomorphism invariant theories of gravity. A relation between the cosmic censorship conjecture and the unitarity of the conformal field theory on the b…
We show that a noncommutative massless scalar probe can dress a naked singularity in $AdS_3$ spacetime, consistent with the weak cosmic censorship. The dressing occurs at high energies, which is typical at the Planck scale. Using a noncommutative duality, we show that the dressed singularity has the geometry of a rotating BTZ black hole which satisfies all the laws of black hole thermodynamics. We calculate the entropy and the quasi-normal modes of the dressed singularity and show that the corresponding spacetime can be quantum mechanically complete. The noncommutative duality also gives rise …
The trans-Planckian censorship conjecture (TCC) puts an upper bound on the life-time of de Sitter spacetimes. It has immediate consequences for inflationary cosmology. In the standard paradigm, the universe has experienced a single stage of inflation and follows a thermal history. Then, the TCC puts an upper bound on the Hubble parameter during inflation $H_{\rm inf}$ around $0.1$ GeV. Consequently, it implies a severe fine-tuning in initial condition for inflation and non-detection of primordial gravitational waves. In this note, we study non-standard cosmological paradigms with non-thermal h…
The trans-Planckian censorship conjecture implies that single-field models of inflation require an extreme fine-tuning of the initial conditions due to the very low-scale of inflation. In this work, we show how a quantum cosmological proposal -- namely the tunneling wavefunction -- naturally provides the necessary initial conditions without requiring such fine-tunings. More generally, we show how the tunneling wavefunction can provide suitable initial conditions for hilltop inflation models, the latter being typically preferred by the swampland constraints.
We find an exact nonstatic charged BTZ-like solutions, in ($N$+1)-dimensional Einstein gravity in the presence of negative cosmological constant and a nonlinear Maxwell field defined by a power $s$ of the Maxwell invariant, which describes the gravitational collapse of charged null fluid in an anti-de Sitter background. Considering the situation that a charged null fluid injects into the initially an anti-de Sitter spacetime, we show that a black hole form rather than a naked singularity, irrespective of spacetime dimensions, from gravitational collapse in accordance with cosmic censorship con…
The recently proposed trans-Planckian censorship conjecture (TCC) seems to require that the energy scale of inflation is significantly lower than the Planck scale $(H_\text{inf}<10^{-20} \Mpl)$. This, in turn, implies that the tensor-to-scalar ratio for inflation is negligibly small, \textit{independent} of assumptions of slow-roll or even of having a single scalar field, thus ruling out inflation if primordial tensor modes are ever observed. After demonstrating the robustness and generality of these bounds, we show that having an excited initial state for cosmological perturbations seems to b…
We explore the bound of the trans-Planckian censorship conjecture on an inflation model with multiple stages. We show that if the first inflationary stage is responsible for the primordial perturbations in the cosmic microwave background window, the $e$-folding number of each subsequent stage will be bounded by the energy scale of the first stage. This seems to imply that the lifetime of the current era of accelerated expansion (regarded as one of the multiple inflationary stages) might be a probe for distinguishing inflation from its alternatives. We also present a multistage inflation model …
The implications of the recently proposed Trans-Planckian censorship conjecture (TCC) are analyzed in the context of warm inflation. It is found that for a single-stage accelerated expansion the constraints imposed by the censorship are roughly the same as for cold inflation. Next, we study how a two-stage inflationary expansion with an intermediate radiation-dominated era can alleviate the bounds imposed by the censorship. For a demonstrative toy model we found $r<10^{-23}$, but can be $r<10^{-5}$ for a weaker form of TCC for the later stages of expansion, while still satisfying the other swa…
We review the recently proposed Trans-Planckian Censorship Conjecture that stems from the Trans-Planckian problem of cosmological perturbations. We analyze the implications and constraints that TCC introduces in different frameworks of viable inflation. We revisit the case of slow-roll scalar field inflation and we investigate the cases of slow-roll $f(R)$ and $f(R,ϕ)$-gravity. Finally, we consider the conjecture in the context of constant-roll scalar field inflation.
We study the implications of the recently proposed Trans-Planckian Censorship Conjecture (TCC) for early universe cosmology and in particular inflationary cosmology. The TCC leads to the conclusion that if we want inflationary cosmology to provide a successful scenario for cosmological structure formation, the energy scale of inflation has to be lower than $10^9$ GeV. Demanding the correct amplitude of the cosmological perturbations then forces the generalized slow-roll parameter $ε$ of the model to be very small ($<10^{-31}$). This leads to the prediction of a negligible amplitude of primordi…
We consider thermal, trapped and chromo-natural inflation in light of the swampland criteria and the Trans-Planckian Censorship Conjecture (TCC). Since thermal inflation occurs at energies low compared to those of Grand Unification, it is consistent with the TCC, and it is also consistent with the refined swampland conditions. Trapped and chromo-natural inflation are candidates for primordial (high energy scale) inflation. Since in both of these scenarios there are effective damping terms in the scalar field equation of motion, the models can easily be consistent with the swampland criteria. T…
We investigate the implication of Trans-Planckian Censorship Conjecture (TCC) for the initial state of primordial perturbations. It is possible to set the state of perturbation modes in the infinite past as the Minkowski vacuum, only if the pre-inflationary era is past-complete. We calculate the evolution of the perturbation modes in such a pre-inflationary era and show that at the beginning of inflation the perturbation modes with wavelengths much shorter than the Hubble scale (but still larger than the Planck length scale) will behave as they are in the Bunch-Davis state. Therefore, a past-c…
We consider gedanken experiments to destroy an extremal or near-extremal BTZ black hole by throwing matter into the horizon. These black holes are vacuum solutions to (2+1)-dimensional gravity theories, and are asymptotically $\mathrm{AdS}_3$. Provided the null energy condition for the falling matter, we prove the following---(i) in a Mielke-Baekler model without ghost fields, when torsion is present, an extremal BTZ black hole can be overspun and becomes a naked conical singularity; (ii) in 3-dimensional Einstein gravity and chiral gravity, which both live in torsionless limits of Mielke-Baek…
In this short note, we pointed out that Warm inflationary scenario remains to be favoured over its cold counterpart by the recently proposed conjectures, which aim to overrule de Sitter like constructions in String Landscapes. On the other hand, the canonical cold (single-field slow-roll) inflationary models, which were in tension with the previously proposed de Sitter conjecture, have now become even more unlikely to realise in String Landscapes as these scenarios fail to cope up with both the conjectures, de Sitter and trans-Planckian censorship, at one go.
We propose a more general version of the Trans-Planckian Censorship Conjecture (TCC) which can apply to models of inflation with varying speed of sound. We find that inflation models with $c_S < 1$ are in general more strongly constrained by censorship of trans-Planckian modes than canonical inflation models, with the upper bound on the tensor/scalar ratio reduced by as much as three orders of magnitude for sound speeds consistent with bounds from data. In particular, models which satisfy the TCC, and therefore the de Sitter Swampland Conjecture, can still violate the more general condition fo…
Two aspects of the widely accepted heuristic picture of the final state of gravitational collapse are the so-called Price law tails, describing the asymptotics of the exterior region of the black hole that forms, and Israel-Poisson's mass inflation scenario, describing the internal structure of the black hole. (The latter scenario, if valid, would indicate that the maximal development of initial data is extendible as a C^0 metric, putting into question the validity of Penrose's strong cosmic censorship conjecture.) In this talk, I shall discuss a series of rigorous results proving both Price's…
We study linear scalar perturbations of black holes in two-dimensional (2D) gravity models with a particular emphasis on Jackiw-Teitelboim (JT) gravity. We obtain an exact expression of the quasinormal mode frequencies for single horizon black holes in JT gravity and then verify it numerically using the Horowitz-Hubeny method. For a 2D Reissner-Nordström like solution, we find that the massless scalar wave equation reduces to the confluent Heun equation using which we calculate the Hawking spectra. Finally, we consider the dimensionally reduced Bañados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ) black hole and o…
For the BTZ black hole in the Einstein gravity, a statistical entropy has been calculated. It is equal to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. In this article, its statistical entropy in the higer curvature gravity is calculated and shown to be equal to one derived by using the Noether charge method. This suggests that the equivalence between the geometrical and statistical entropies of the black hole is retained in the general diffeomorphism invariant theories of gravity. A relation between the cosmic censorship conjecture and the unitarity of the conformal field theory on the boundary of AdS_3 is…
Recent work has argued that the strong cosmic censorship (SCC) conjecture is violated by near-extremal Reissner-Nordström de Sitter (RNdS) black holes but respected by Kerr-de Sitter black holes. It has also been shown that the conjecture is violated by near-extremal BTZ black holes. The latter result relies on a coincidence between "exterior" and "interior" quasinormal frequencies. If this coincidence were to occur also for RNdS or Kerr-dS then it would significantly modify the conclusions of earlier work. In this paper, it is demonstrated that this coincidence does not occur for RNdS or Kerr…
We investigate the Trans-Planckian Censorship Conjecture (TCC) and the arising bounds on the inflationary cosmology caused by that conjecture. In that investigation, we analyze TCC bounds for both Jordan and Einstein frames in the presence of a generic non-minimal coupling (to gravity) term. That term allows us to use the functional freedom it brings to the inflationary Lagrangian as an effective Planck mass. In this sense, we argue one should consider the initial field value of the effective Planck mass for the TCC. We show that as a result, one can remove the TCC upper bounds without the nee…
We propose a refined version of trans-Planckian censorship conjecture (TCC), which could be elaborated from the strong scalar weak gravity conjecture combined with some entropy bounds. In particular, no fine-tuning on the inflation model-building is required in the refined TCC, and it automatically passes the tests from those stringy examples that support the original TCC. Furthermore, our refined TCC could be consistent with hilltop eternal inflation.
Large field excursions are required in a number of axion models of inflation. These models also possess global cosmic strings, around which the axion follows a path mirroring the inflationary trajectory. Cosmic strings are thus an interesting theoretical laboratory for the study of transplanckian field excursions. We describe connections between various effective field theory models of axion monodromy and study the classical spacetimes around their supercritical cosmic strings. For small decay constants $f<M_p$ and large winding numbers $n>M_p/f$, the EFT is under control and the string cores …
In this paper, we discuss about the possibility to enhance the tensor-to-scalar ratio $r$ under the condition of Trans-Planckian censorship conjecture (TCC), thus $r\sim O(10^{-3})$ could be observable within the sensitivity of future experiments. We make use of the scalar-tensor theory where inflaton is nonminimally coupled to gravity. After demonstrating that the TCC condition could be modified in scalar-tensor theory, we show that due to the effects of modified gravity at the end of inflation, a large $r\sim O(10^{-3})$ could be allowed without violating the TCC. Moreover, the modification …
We study the inner horizons of rotating and charged black holes in anti-de Sitter space. These black holes have a classical analytic extension through the inner horizon to additional asymptotic regions. If this extension survives in the quantum theory, it requires particular analytic properties in a dual CFT, which give a prescription for calculating correlation functions for operators placed on any asymptotic boundary of the maximally extended spacetime. We show that for charged black holes in three or greater dimensions, and rotating black holes in four or greater dimensions, these analytic …
If the inflationary phase lasted longer than the minimal period, the length scales observed today originate from modes that were smaller than the Planck length during inflation. It was recently argued that this "trans-Planckian problem" can never arise in a consistent string theory framework, which places a stringent constraint on the energy scale of inflation, $V^{1/4}\lesssim 10^9$ GeV. In this paper, we show that this requirement corresponds to a very small Hubble scale during inflation, $H_{\rm inf}\lesssim 1$ GeV, and therefore has serious consequences on scenarios where the dark matter d…
The recently proposed trans-Planckian censorship conjecture (TCC) imposes a strong constraint on the inflationary Hubble scale, of which the upper bound could be largely relaxed by considering a noninstantaneous reheating history. In this paper we will show that, if the primordial black holes (PBHs) are formed at reentry in the radiation-dominated era from the enhanced curvature perturbations at small scales, the TCC would impose a lower bound on the PBH mass $M_\mathrm{PBH}>γ(H_\mathrm{end}/10^9\,\mathrm{GeV})^2\,M_\odot$ regardless of the details for reheating history, where $γ$ is the colla…
It has been claimed that in a test of an asymptotically AdS version of weak cosmic censorship conjecture by attempting to overspin a BTZ black hole with test particles, one finds that it is not possible to spin-up the black hole past its extremal limit. The result of this analysis is restricted to the case where the initial black hole is extremal. We extend this analysis to find that massive test particles can overspin the black hole, if we start with a nearly extremal black hole, instead. We also consider the interaction of the BTZ black hole with test fields. We show that overspinning of nea…
A satisfactory formulation of the laws of physics entails that the future evolution of a physical system should be determined from appropriate initial conditions. The existence of Cauchy horizons in solutions of the Einstein field equations is therefore problematic, and expected to be an unstable artifact of General Relativity. This is asserted by the Strong Cosmic Censorship Conjecture, which was recently put into question by an analysis of the linearized equations in the exterior of charged black holes in an expanding universe. Here, we numerically evolve the nonlinear Einstein-Maxwell-scala…
We study the gravitational collapse problem of rotating shells in three-dimensional Einstein gravity with and without a cosmological constant. Taking the exterior and interior metrics to be those of stationary metrics with asymptotically constant curvature, we solve the equations of motion for the shells from the Darmois-Israel junction conditions in the "co-rotating" frame. We study various collapse scenarios with "arbitrary" angular momentum for a variety of geometric configurations, including anti-de Sitter, de Sitter, and flat spaces. We find that the collapsing shells can form a BTZ black…
It was recently proposed that a field theory cannot be consistent with quantum gravity if it allows a mode shorter than the Planck length to exit the Hubble horizon. This is called the Trans-Planckian Censorship Conjecture (TCC). We discuss the implications of the TCC on the possible shape of the inflaton potential in single-field slow-roll inflation. We point out that (1) there is generically an initial condition in which the total e-folding number $N_\text{total}$ is doubled or more compared to the e-folds necessary for the cosmic microwave background fluctuations, and (2) a sizable negative…
It is proved that dynamically formed Reissner-Nordström-de Sitter (RNdS) black holes, which have recently been claimed to provide counter-examples to the Penrose strong cosmic censorship conjecture, are characterized by unstable (singular) inner Cauchy horizons. The proof is based on analytical techniques which explicitly reveal the fact that {\it charged} massive scalar fields in the charged RNdS black-hole spacetime are characterized, in the large-coupling regime, by quasinormal resonant frequencies with $\Imω^{\text{min}}<{1\over2}κ_+$, where $κ_+$ is the surface gravity of the black-hole e…
Extending the study of spherically symmetric metrics satisfying the dominant energy condition and exhibiting singularities of power-law type initiated in SI93, we identify two classes of peculiar interest: focusing timelike singularity solutions with the stress-energy tensor of a radiative perfect fluid (equation of state: $p={1\over 3} ρ$) and a set of null singularity classes verifying identical properties. We consider two important applications of these results: to cosmology, as regards the possibility of solving the horizon problem with no need to resort to any inflationary scenario, and t…
While the accumulation of long wavelength modes during inflation wreaks havoc on the large scale structure of spacetime, the question of even observability of their presence by any local observer has lead to considerable confusion. Though it is commonly agreed that infrared effects are not visible to a single sub-horizon observer at late times, we argue that the question is less trivial for a \emph{patient observer} who has lived long enough to have a record of the state before the soft mode was created. Though classically there is no obstruction to measuring this effect locally, we give sever…
We develop a new test that provides a necessary condition for a quantum state to be smooth in the vicinity of a null surface: near-horizon modes that can be defined locally near any patch of the null surface must be correctly entangled with each other and with their counterparts across the surface. This test is considerably simpler to implement than a full computation of the renormalized stress-energy tensor. We apply this test to Reissner-Nordstrom black holes in asymptotically anti-de Sitter space and provide numerical evidence that the inner horizon of such black holes is singular in the Ha…
Quantum singularities considered in the 3D BTZ spacetime by Pitelli and Letelier (Phys. Rev. D77: 124030, 2008) is extended to charged BTZ and 3D Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity spacetimes. The occurence of naked singularities in the Einstein-Maxwell extension of the BTZ spacetime both in linear and non-linear electrodynamics as well as in the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity spacetimes are analysed with the quantum test fields obeying the Klein-Gordon and Dirac equations. We show that with the inclusion of the matter fields; the conical geometry near r=0 is removed and restricted classes of …
In the framework of gravothermal evolution of an ideal monatomic fluid, I examine the dynamical instability of the fluid sphere in ($N$+1) dimensions by exploiting Chandrasekhar's criterion to each quasistatic equilibrium along the sequence of the evolution. Once the instability is triggered, it would probably collapse into a black hole if no other interaction halts the process. From this viewpoint, the privilege of (3+1)-dimensional spacetime is manifest, as it is the marginal dimensionality in which the ideal monatomic fluid is stable but not too stable. Moreover, it is the unique dimensiona…
A large variety of spacetimes---including the BTZ black holes---can be obtained by identifying points in 2+1 dimensional anti-de Sitter space by means of a discrete group of isometries. We consider all such spacetimes that can be obtained under a restriction to time symmetric initial data and one asymptotic region only. The resulting spacetimes are non-eternal black holes with collapsing wormhole topologies. Our approach is geometrical, and we discuss in detail: The allowed topologies, the shape of the event horizons, topological censorship and trapped curves.
It has long been suggested that the Cauchy horizon of dynamical black holes is subject to a weak null singularity, under the mass inflation scenario. We study in spherical symmetry the Einstein-Maxwell-Klein-Gordon equations and \textit{while we do not directly show mass inflation}, we obtain a "mass inflation/ridigity" dichotomy. More precisely, we prove assuming (sufficiently slow) decay of the charged scalar field on the event horizon, that the Cauchy horizon emanating from time-like infinity is $\mathcal{CH}_{i^+}= \mathcal{D} \cup \mathcal{S}$ for two (possibly empty) disjoint connected s…
The phenomenon of mass inflation is shown to occur for a rotating black hole. We demonstrate this feature in $(2+1)$ dimensions by extending the charged spinning BTZ black hole to Vaidya form. We find that the mass function diverges in a manner quantitatively similar to its static counterparts in $(3+1)$, $(2+1)$ and $(1+1)$ dimensions.
The cosmic censorship conjecture posits that singularities forming to the future of a regular Cauchy surface are hidden by an event horizon. Consequently any topological structures will ultimately collapse within the horizon of a set of black holes and so no observer can actively probe them classically. We consider here a quantum analog of this problem, in which we compare the transition rates of an Unruh-DeWitt detector placed outside the horizon of an eternal BTZ black hole and its associated geon counterpart. We find the transition rates differ, with the latter being time-dependent, implyin…
