The growth in the demand for precisely crafted many-body systems of spin-$1/2$ particles/qubits is due to their top-notch versatility in application-oriented quantum-enhanced protocols and the fundamental tests of quantum theory. Here we address the question: how quantum is a chain of spins? We demonstrate that a single element of the density matrix carries the answer. Properly analyzed it brings information about the extent of the many-body entanglement and the non-locality. This method can be used to tailor and witness highly non-classical effects in many-body systems with possible applications to quantum computing, ultra-precise metrology or large-scale tests of quantum mechanics. As a proof of principle, we investigate the extend of non-locality and entanglement in ground states and thermal states of experimentally accessible spin chains.
In this paper, we show that an effective spin Hamiltonian with various types of couplings can be engineered using quantum simulators in atomic-molecular-optical laboratories, dubbed the \emph{XY}-Gamma model. We analytically solve the one-dimensional short-range interacting case with the Jordan-Wigner transformation and establish the phase diagram. In the gapless phase, an incommensurate spiral order is manifested by the vector-chiral correlations. Between distinct gapped phases, a logarithmic scaling behavior of local measures, including spin correlations and the steered quantum coherence, is…
Work statistics for Quantum Spin Chains: characterizing quantum phase transitions, benchmarking time evolution, and examining passivity of quantum states
We define two ways of quantifying the quantum correlations based on quantum Fisher information (QFI) in order to study the quantum correlations as a resource in quantum metrology. By investigating the hierarchy of measurement-induced Fisher information introduced in Lu et al. [X. M. Lu, S. Luo, and C. H. Oh, Phys Rev. A 86, 022342 (2012)], we show that the presence of quantum correlation can be confirmed by the difference of the Fisher information induced by the measurements of two hierarchies. In particular, the quantitative quantum correlations based on QFI coincide with the geometric discor…
Exploiting the notion of measurement-induced nonlocality [Phys.Rev. Lett. 106, 120401 (2011)], we introduce a new measure to quantify the nonbilocal correlation. We establish a simple relation between the nonlocal and nonbilocal measures for the arbitrary pure input states. Considering the mixed states as inputs, we derive two upper bounds of affinity-based nonbilocal measure. Finally, we have studied the nonbilocality of a different combinations of input states.
Contrary to Bell scenario, quantum nonlocality can be exploited even when all the parties do not have freedom to select inputs randomly. Such manifestation of nonlocality is possible in networks involving independent sources. One can utilize such a feature of quantum networks for purpose of entanglement detection of bipartite quantum states. In this context, we characterize correlations simulated in networks involving finite number of sources generating quantum states when some parties perform fixed measurement. Beyond bipartite entanglement, we enquire the same for networks involving sources …
In the present paper, we attempt to address the question of "can tensorizing states have quantum advantages?". To answer this question, we exploit the notion of measurement-induced nonlocality (MIN) and advocate a fidelity based nonbilocal measure to capture the nonlocal effects of tensorizing states due to locally invariant von Neumann projective measurements. We show that the properties of the fidelity based nonbilocal measure are retrieved from that of MIN. Analytically, we evaluate the nonbilocal measure for any arbitrary pure state. The upper bounds of the nonbilocal measure based on fide…
Characterization and certification of nonlocal correlations is one of the the central topics in quantum information theory. In this work, we develop the detection methods of entanglement and steering based on the universal uncertainty relations and fine-grained uncertainty relations. In the course of our study, the uncertainty relations are formulated in majorization form, and the uncertainty quantifier can be chosen as any convex Schur concave functions, this leads to a large set of inequalities, including all existing criteria based on entropies. We address the question that if all steerable…
Given a quantum system on many qubits split into a few different parties, how many total correlations are there between these parties? Such a quantity, aimed to measure the deviation of the global quantum state from an uncorrelated state with the same local statistics, plays an important role in understanding multipartite correlations within complex networks of quantum states. Yet, the experimental access of this quantity remains challenging as it tends to be non-linear, and hence often requires tomography which becomes quickly intractable as dimensions of relevant quantum systems scale. Here,…
Networks based on entangled quantum systems enable interesting applications in quantum information processing and the understanding of the resulting quantum correlations is essential for advancing the technology. We show that the theory of quantum coherence provides powerful tools for analyzing this problem. For that, we demonstrate that a recently proposed approach to network correlations based on covariance matrices can be improved and analytically evaluated for the most important cases.
In this paper we provide a novel way to explore the relation between quantum teleportation and quantum phase transition. We construct a quantum channel with a mixed state which is made from one dimensional quantum Ising chain with infinite length, and then consider the teleportation with the use of entangled Werner states as input qubits. The fidelity as a figure of merit to measure how well the quantum state is transferred is studied numerically. Remarkably we find the first-order derivative of the fidelity with respect to the parameter in quantum Ising chain exhibits a logarithmic divergence…
Geometric discord, a measure of quantumness of bipartite system, captures minimal nonlocal effects of a quantum state due to locally invariant von Neumann projective measurements. Original version of this measure is suffered by the local ancilla problem. In this article, we propose a new version of geometric discord using affinity. This quantity satisfies all criteria of a good measure of quantum correlation of the bipartite system and resolves local ancilla problem of Hilbert-Schmidt norm based discord. We evaluate analytically the proposed quantity for both pure and mixed states. For an arbi…
Quantum correlations forms a subset of the set of nonsignaling boxes. This allows us to characterize quantum correlations as a convex combination of the extremal boxes of the nonsignaling polytope which are Popescu-Rohrlich boxes (maximally nonlocal boxes) and local deterministic boxes. There exists multiple decomposition of quantum correlations in the context of the nonsignaling polytope. I find that the existence of Popescu-Rohrlich box decomposition for local boxes associates two notions of discord which capture nonclassicality of quantum correlations originating from Bell nonlocality and E…
The experimental detection of multipartite entanglement usually requires a number of appropriately chosen local quantum measurements which are aligned with respect to a previously shared common reference frame. The latter, however, can be a challenging prerequisite e.g. for satellite-based photonic quantum communication, making the development of alternative detection strategies desirable. One possibility for avoiding the distribution of classical reference frames is to perform a number of local measurements with settings distributed uniformly at random. In this work we follow such a treatment…
Correlations in multiparticle systems are constrained by restrictions from quantum mechanics. A prominent example for these restrictions are monogamy relations, limiting the amount of entanglement between pairs of particles in a three-particle system. A powerful tool to study correlation constraints is the notion of sector lengths. These quantify, for different $k$, the amount of $k$-partite correlations in a quantum state in a basis-independent manner. We derive tight bounds on the sector lengths in multi-qubit states and highlight applications of these bounds to entanglement detection, monog…
It is shown that transient spin-spin correlations in one-dimensional spin S>>1 chain can be enhanced for initially factorized and individually squeezed spin states. Such correlation transfer form "internal" to "external" degrees of freedom can be well described by using a semiclassical phase-space approach.
We consider the $M$-neighbor approximation in the problem of one-qubit pure state transfer along the $N$-node zigzag and alternating spin chains governed by the $XXZ$-Hamiltonian with the dipole-dipole interaction. We show that always $M>1$, i.e., the nearest neighbor approximation is not applicable to such interaction. Moreover, only all-node interaction ($M=N-1$) properly describes the dynamics in the alternating chain. We reveal the region in the parameter space characterizing the chain geometry and orientation which provide the high-probability state-transfer. The optimal state-transfer pr…
The interdependence between long range correlations and topological signatures in fermionic arrays is examined. End-to-end correlations, in particular classical correlations, maintain a characteristic pattern in the presence of delocalized excitations and this behavior can be used as an operational criterion to identify Majorana fermions in one-dimensional systems. The study discusses how to obtain the chain eigenstates in tensor-state representation together with the proposed assessment of correlations. Outstandingly, the final result can be written as a simple analytical expression that unde…
We introduce a procedure based on quantum expectation values of measurement observables to characterize quantum coherence. Our measure allows one to quantify coherence without having to perform tomography of the quantum state, and can be directly calculated from measurement expectation values. This definition of coherence allows the decomposition into contributions corresponding to the non-classical correlations between the subsystems and localized on each subsystem. The method can also be applied to cases where the full set of measurement operators is unavailable. An estimator using the trunc…
The multipartite quantum networks feature multiple independent sources, in contrast to the conventional multipartite Bell experiment involving a single source. So far, network nonlocality has been explored when each source produces a two-qubit entangled state. In this work, we demonstrate the network nonlocality when each party performs a black-box measurement, and the dimension of the system remains unspecified. In an interesting work, by considering each source produces two-qubit entangled states in the conventional bilocal scenario, Gisin \emph{et. al.} in https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevA.9…
Entanglement of high-dimensional quantum systems has become increasingly important for quantum communication and experimental tests of nonlocality. However, many effects of high-dimensional entanglement can be simulated by using multiple copies of low-dimensional systems. We present a general theory to characterize those high-dimensional quantum states for which the correlations cannot simply be simulated by low-dimensional systems. Our approach leads to general criteria for detecting multilevel entanglement in multiparticle quantum states, which can be used to verify these phenomena experimen…
We explore deformations of finite chains of independent fermions which give rise to large correlations between their extremes. After a detailed study of the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model, the trade-off curve between end-to-end correlations and the energy gap of the chains is obtained using machine-learning techniques, paying special attention to the scaling behavior with the chain length. We find that edge-dimerized chains, where the second and penultimate hoppings are reinforced, are very often close to the optimal configurations. Our results allow us to conjecture that, given a fixed gap,…
