We consider the use of multipreconditioning to solve linear systems when more than one preconditioner is available but the optimal choice is not known. In particular, we consider a selective multipreconditioned GMRES algorithm where we incorporate a weighting that allows us to prefer one preconditioner over another. Our target application lies in the simulation of incompressible two-phase flow. Since it is not always known if a preconditioner will perform well within all regimes found in a simulation, we also consider robustness of the multipreconditioning to a poorly performing preconditioner. Overall, we obtain promising results with the approach.
A discontinuous Galerkin pressure correction numerical method for solving the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations is formulated and analyzed. We prove unconditional stability of the propose scheme. Convergence of the discrete velocity is established by deriving a priori error estimates. Numerical results verify the convergence rates.
This paper presents the first energy-dissipative level-set method for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with surface tension. The methodology relies on the recently proposed concept of functional entropy variables. Discretization in space is performed with isogeometric analysis. Temporal-integration is performed with a new perturbed midpoint scheme. The fully-discrete scheme is unconditionally energy-dissipative, pointwise divergence-free and satisfies the maximum principle for the density. We provide optimal order pressure error estimates for the Crank-Nicolson semidiscretization of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. Second order estimates for the velocity error are long known, we prove that the pressure error is of the same order if considered at interval midpoints, confirming previous numerical evidence. For simplicity we first give a proof under high regularity assumptions that include nonlocal compatibility conditions for the initial data, then use smoothing techniques for a proof under reduced assumptions based on standard local conditions only.
It is well known that the choice of the iterative method is crucial in determining the speed of the converged solution. This article presents a detailed comparison between several iterative techniques for solving incmopressible Navier-Stokes equations. The numerical approaches implemented in the solver include Jacobi, Gauss-Siedel, Successive Over Relaxation, Alternating Direct Implicit and Multigrid methods. The results reveal that multigrid method is the most powerful iterative method among all other methods investigated in terms of the computational time and the number of iterations.
We construct first- and second-order time discretization schemes for the Cahn-Hilliard-Navier-Stokes system based on the multiple scalar auxiliary variables approach (MSAV) approach for gradient systems and (rotational) pressure-correction for Navier-Stokes equations. A semi-collocated grid layout is adopted, where velocity variables are located at cell vertices, and pressure variables are located at cell centers.
