Recently, the authors presented a covariant extension of the Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP) with a Lorentz invariant minimum length. This opens the way for constructing and exploring the observable consequences of minimum length in Relativistic Quantum Field Theories. In particular, we compute quantum gravity corrections to high energy scattering experiments, which may provide the much needed window of testing minimum length and quantum gravity theories in the laboratory. To this end, we formulate the Lagrangian of Quantum Electrodynamics for a complex scalar fields from the GUP modified minimally coupled Klein-Gordon equation and write down its Feynman rules. We then calculate the Relativistic Generalized Uncertainty Principle corrections to a Quantum Electrodynamics scattering amplitude and discuss its implications.
Continuing our earlier work on the application of the Relativistic Generalized Uncertainty Principle (RGUP) to quantum field theories, in this paper we study Quantum Electrodynamics (QED) with minimum length. We obtain expressions for the Lagrangian, Feynman rules and scattering amplitudes of the theory, and discuss their consequences for current and future high energy physics experiments. We hope this will provide an improved window for testing Quantum Gravity effects in the laboratory.
We consider a gravitating system consisting of a scalar field minimally coupled to gravity with a self-interacting potential and a U(1) nonlinear electromagnetic field. Solving analytically and numerically the coupled system for both power-law and Born-Infeld type electrodynamics, we find charged hairy black hole solutions. Then, we study the thermodynamics of these solutions and we find that at a low temperature the topological charged black hole with scalar hair is thermodynamically preferred, whereas the topological charged black hole without scalar hair is thermodynamically preferred at a …
We prove a no Cauchy horizon theorem for general nonlinear electrodynamics black holes with charged scalar hairs. By constructing a radially conserved charged, we show that there is no inner Cauchy horizon for both spherical and planar symmetric cases, independent of the form of scalar potential and nonlinear electrodynamics. After imposing the null energy condition, we are also able to rule out the existence of the Cauchy horizon for the hyperbolic black holes. We take the Born-Infeld black hole as a concrete example to study the interior dynamics beyond the event horizon. When the contributi…
We construct conformally scalar NUTty dyon black holes in non-linear electrodynamics (NLE) which possess conformal and duality-rotation symmetries and are characterized by a free dimensionless parameter. The thermodynamic first law of the black hole is formulated. Then we explore the strong gravitational effects of the black hole, mainly focusing on the innermost stable circular orbits (ISCOs) of massive particles and shadows formed by the photons. One of our interesting results is that if the black hole is endowed with a positive real conformal scalar charge rendering it Reissner-Nordström-li…
We study influence of scalar fields on Nonlinear Electrodynamics spacetimes. The investigation is carried out using both test and gravitating scalar fields. After revisiting Einstein-Maxwell scalar field solutions we focus on analytic investigation of Nonlinear Electrodynamics scalar field spacetimes, especially Square Root Lagrangian model. The main motivation being to understand whether certain specific signatures of scalar fields are preserved when Nonlinear Electrodynamics as an additional source is considered. We show that the regularity of horizon which is spoiled by scalar field in sphe…
In non-supersymmetric covariant quantum gravity theory, for each system of gravity coupled with single field is one-loop divergent. Since adding other fields or other interactions to each system generates more possible counter-Lagrangian terms, there is room for improvement to restore renormalizability. In this paper, we consider Einstein-Maxwell fields coupled with electrically charged scalar which is the simplest model among the systems of gravity coupled with multiple fields having their own interaction. First, we introduce how to calculate the possible one-loop diagrams in Einstein-SQED sy…
We calculate the expectation value of the coincident product of two field strength tensors at two loop order in scalar electrodynamics on de Sitter background. The result agrees with the stochastic formulation which we have developed in a companion paper [2] for the nonperturbative resummation of leading logarithms of the scale factor. When combined with a previous computation of scalar bilinears [1], our current result also gives the two loop stress-energy tensor for inflationary scalar electrodynamics. This shows a secular decrease in the vacuum energy which derives from the vacuum polarizat…
In this paper, we study the thermodynamical properties of the (2+1) dimensional black hole with a non-linear electrodynamics and with a negative cosmological constant, using the Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP). This approach shows that there is a minimum mass or remnant for the black hole, corresponding to the minimum radius of the event horizon that has a size of the order of the Planck scale. We also show that the heat capacity for this black hole is always positive.
We study inflation for a quantum scalar electrodynamics model in curved space-time and for higher-derivative quantum gravity (QG) coupled with scalar electrodynamics. The corresponding renormalization-group (RG) improved potential is evaluated for both theories in Jordan frame where non-minimal scalar-gravitational coupling sector is explicitly kept. The role of one-loop quantum corrections is investigated by showing how these corrections enter in the expressions for the slow-roll parameters, the spectral index and the tensor-to-scalar ratio and how they influence the bound of the Hubble param…
A new representation of the scalar electrodynamics is discovered which gives a more redundant description of electromagnetic theory and suitable to construct an appropriate matter action which contains two global symmetries . The symmetries of the model when localized by gauge principle , provides a co-variant fracton gauge theory.
We study the propagation of scalar fields in the background of $2+1$-dimensional Coulomb like AdS black holes, and we show that such propagation is stable under Dirichlet boundary conditions. Then, we solve the Klein-Gordon equation by using the pseudospectral Chevyshev method, and we find the quasinormal frequencies. Mainly, we find that the quasinormal frequencies are purely imaginary for a null angular number and they are complex and purely imaginary for a non null value of the angular number, which depend on the black hole charge, angular number and overtone number. On the other hand, the …
Several traversable wormholes (T-WHs) of the Morris-Thorne type have been presented as exact solutions of Einstein-nonlinear electrodynamics gravity (GR-NLED), e.g. \cite{Arellano2009, Bronnikov2018,Bronnikov_Walia2021, Canate_Breton2018, Canate_Breton_Ortiz2020, Canate_Magos_Breton2020}. However, none of these solutions is support by a nonlinear electrodynamics model satisfying plausible conditions. In this work, we present the first traversable wormhole solution of Einstein-nonlinear electrodynamics gravity coupled to a self-interacting phantom scalar field (GR-NLED-SF) with a NLED model suc…
The no-scalar-hair conjecture rules out the existence of asymptotically flat black holes with a scalar dressing for a large class of theories. No-scalar-hair theorems have been proved for the cases of neutral black holes and for charged black holes in the Maxwell electrodynamics. These theorems, however, do not apply in the case of non-linear electrodynamics. In the present work numerical solutions describing charged black holes coupled to Euler-Heisenberg type non-linear electrodynamics in scalar-tensor theories of gravity with massless scalar field are found. In comparison to the correspondi…
The non-existence of asymptotically flat, neutral black holes and asymptotically flat, charged black holes in the Maxwell electrodynamics, with non-trivial scalar field has been proved for a large class of scalar-tensor theories. The no-scalar-hair theorems, however, do not apply in the case of non-linear electrodynamics. In the present work numerical solutions describing charged black holes coupled to Born-Infeld type non-linear electrodynamics in scalar-tensor theories of gravity with massless scalar field are found. The causal structure and properties of the solutions are studied, and a com…

The source of the universe inflation is electromagnetic fields obeying rational nonlinear electrodynamics proposed earlier. Within this model the singularities of the electric field at the center of charges, the Ricci scalar, the Ricci tensor squared and the Kretschmann scalar are absent. We consider the universe which is filled by stochastic magnetic fields. It is demonstrated that the inflation lasts approximately $2$ s with the reasonable e-folding number $N\approx 63$. The Inflation starts from de Sitter spacetime and after the universe inflation end it decelerates approaching the radiatio…
Recent results show that when non-linear electrodynamics is considered the no-scalar-hair theorems in the scalar-tensor theories (STT) of gravity, which are valid for the cases of neutral black holes and charged black holes in the Maxwell electrodynamics, can be circumvented. What is even more, in the present work, we find new non-unique, numerical solutions describing charged black holes coupled to non-linear electrodynamics in a special class of scalar-tensor theories. One of the phases has a trivial scalar field and coincides with the corresponding solution in General Relativity. The other …
The higher category theory can be employed to generalize the BF action to the so-called 3BF action, by passing from the notion of a gauge group to the notion of a gauge 3-group. The theory of scalar electrodynamics coupled to Einstein-Cartan gravity can be formulated as a constrained 3BF theory for a specific choice of the gauge 3-group. The complete Hamiltonian analysis of the 3BF action for the choice of a Lie 3-group corresponding to scalar electrodynamics is performed. This analysis is the first step towards a canonical quantization of a 3BF theory, an important stepping stone for the quan…
We construct a consistent model of Galileon scalar electrodynamics. The model satisfies three essential requirements: (1) The action contains higher-order derivative terms, and obey the Galilean symmetry, (2) Equations of motion also satisfy Galilean symmetry and contain only up to second-order derivative terms in the matter fields and, hence do not suffer from instability, and (3) local U(1) gauge invariance is preserved. We show that the non-minimal coupling terms in our model are different from that of the real scalar Galileon models; however, they match with the Galileon real scalar field …
We present a novel, exact, traversable wormhole (T-WH) solution for $(3+1)$-dimensional Einstein-scalar-Gauss-Bonnet theory (EsGB) coupled to a power-Maxwell nonlinear electrodynamics (NLED). The solution is characterized by two parameters, $\mathcal{Q}\!_{\rm e}$ and $\mathcal{Q}\!_{_{ \mathcal{S} }}$, associated respectively with the electromagnetic field and the scalar field. We show that for $\mathcal{Q}^2_{\rm e} - \mathcal{Q}\!_{_{ \mathcal{S} }}>0$ the solution can be interpreted as a traversable wormhole. In the general case, with non-vanishing electromagnetic field, the scalar-Gauss-B…
The generators of the Poincaré symmetry of scalar electrodynamics are quantized in the functional Schrödinger representation. We show that the factor ordering which corresponds to (minimal) Dirac quantization preserves the Poincaré algebra, but (minimal) reduced quantization does not. In the latter, there is a van Hove anomaly in the boost-boost commutator, which we evaluate explicitly to lowest order in a heat kernel expansion using zeta function regularization. We illuminate the crucial role played by the gauge orbit volume element in the analysis. Our results demonstrate that preservation o…
Along the last decades, several regular black hole (BH) solutions, i.e., singularity-free BHs, have been proposed and associated to nonlinear electrodynamics models minimally coupled to general relativity. Within this context, it is of interest to study how those nonlinear-electrodynamic-based regular BHs (RBHs) would interact with their astrophysical environment. We investigate the propagation of a massless test scalar field in the background of an electrically charged RBH solution, obtained by Eloy Ayón-Beato and Alberto García. Using a numerical approach, we compute the absorption cross sec…
In the present work the role that a generalized uncertainty principle could play in the quantization of the electromagnetic field is analyzed. It will be shown that we may speak of a Fock space, a result that implies that the concept of photon is properly defined. Nevertheless, in this new context the creation and annihilation operators become a function of the new term that modifies the Heisenberg algebra, and hence the Hamiltonian is not anymore diagonal in the occupation number representation. Additionally, we show the changes that the energy expectation value suffers as result of the prese…
A new model of nonlinear electrodynamics with dimensional parameters $β$ and $γ$ is proposed. The principles of causality and unitarity are studied. We show that a singularity of the electric field at the origin of charges is absent and the maximum of the electric field in the center is $E(0)=1/\sqrtβ$. The dual symmetry is broken in our model. Corrections to the Coulomb law as $r\rightarrow\infty$ are in the order of ${\cal O}(r^{-4})$. The source of the gravitation field and inflation of the universe is electromagnetic fields. It is supposed that the universe is filled by stochastic magnetic…
A generalization of scalar electrodynamics called fluid electrodynamics is presented. In this theory a fluid replaces the Higgs scalar field. Fluid electrodynamics might have application to the theory of low temperature Helium superfluids, but here it is argued that it provides an alternative method of approaching symmetry breaking in particle physics. The method of constructing fluid electrodynamics is to start with the velocity decomposition of a perfect fluid as in general relativity. A unit vector tangent to the flow lines of an isentropic fluid can be written in terms of scalar potentials…
We consider the quantum loop effects in scalar electrodynamics on de Sitter space by making use of the functional renormalization group approach. We first integrate out the photon field, which can be done exactly to leading (zeroth) order in the gradients of the scalar field, thereby making this method suitable for investigating the dynamics of the infrared sector of the theory. Assuming that the scalar remains light we then apply the functional renormalization group methods to the resulting effective scalar theory and focus on investigating the effective potential, which is the leading order …
The "black-bounce" spacetime geometries, were recently proposed in [A. Simpson, M. Visser, JCAP 02 (2019) 042] as regular black holes that bouncing into a future incarnation of the universe. In this work we will present several black-bounce exact solutions of General Relativity. Among them is a novel type of black-bounce solutions, which in contrast of the Simpson-Visser type [A. Simpson, M. Visser, JCAP 02 (2019) 042], do not have the Ellis wormhole metric as a particular case. The source of these solutions are linear superposition of phantom scalar fields and nonlinear electromagnetic fields…
Exact self-consistent particle-like solutions with spherical and/or cylindrical symmetry to the equations governing the interacting system of scalar, electromagnetic and gravitational fields have been obtained. As a particular case it is shown that the equations of motion admit a special kind of solutions with sharp boundary known as droplets. For these solutions, the physical fields vanish and the space-time is flat outside of the critical sphere or cylinder. Therefore, the mass and the electric charge of these configurations are zero.
The possibility to construct inflationary models for the renormalization-group improved potentials corresponding to scalar electrodynamics and to $SU(2)$ and $SU(5)$ models is investigated. In all cases, the tree-level potential, which corresponds to the cosmological constant in the Einstein frame, is seen to be non-suitable for inflation. Rather than adding the Hilbert-Einstein term to the action, quantum corrections to the potential, coming from to the RG-equation, are included. The inflationary scenario is analyzed with unstable de Sitter solutions which correspond to positive values of the…
We investigate the asymptotic symmetry group of a scalar field minimally-coupled to an abelian gauge field using the Hamiltonian formulation. This extends previous work by Henneaux and Troessaert on the pure electromagnetic case. We deal with minimally coupled massive and massless scalar fields and find that they behave differently insofar as the latter do not allow for canonically implemented asymptotic boost symmetries. We also consider the abelian Higgs model and show that its asymptotic canonical symmetries reduce to the Poincaré group in an unproblematic fashion.
We study the propagation of charged scalar fields in the background of $2+1$-dimensional Coulomb-like AdS black holes, and we show that such propagation is unstable under Dirichlet boundary conditions. However, all the unstable modes are superradiant and all the stable modes are non-superradiant, according with the superradiant condition. Mainly, we show that when the scalar field is charged the quasinormal frecuencies (QNFs) are always complex, contrary to the uncharged case, where for small values of the black hole charge the complex QNFs are dominant, while that for bigger values of the bla…
Quasinormal modes of black holes were previously calculated in a non-linear electrodynamics and in the Gauss-Bonnet gravity theory. Here we take into consideration both of the above factors and find quasinormal modes of a (massive) scalar field in the background of a black hole in the five-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity coupled to a non-linear electrodynamics having Maxwellian weak-field limit. For the non-linear electrodynamics we considered the high frequency (eikonal) regime of oscillations analytically, while for the lower multipoles the higher order WKB analysis with the help o…
We formulate axion-electrodynamics and magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) in the cosmological context assuming weak gravity. The two formulations are made for a general scalar field with general $f(ϕ)$-coupling, and an axion as a massive scalar field with $ϕ^2$-coupling, with the helical electromagnetic field. The $α$-dynamo term appears naturally from the helical coupling in the MHD formulation. In the presence of the electromagnetic coupling, however, the Schrödinger and hydrodynamic formulations of the coherently oscillating axion are {\it not} available for the conventional $ϕ$ coupling; instead, …
A model of nonlinear electrodynamics with a dimensional parameter $β$ is considered. Electromagnetic fields are the source of the gravitation field and inflation of the universe. We imply that the universe is filled by stochastic magnetic fields. It is demonstrated that after the universe inflation the universe decelerates approaching the Minkowski spacetime. We evaluate the spectral index, the tensor-to-scalar ratio, and the running of the spectral index which approximately agree with the PLANK and WMAP data.
We stochastically formulate the theory of scalar quantum electrodynamics on a de Sitter background. This reproduces the leading infrared logarithms at each loop order. It also allows one to sum the series of leading infrared logarithms to obtain explicit, nonperturbative results about the late time behavior of the system. One consequence is confirmation of the conjecture by Davis, Dimopoulos, Prokopec and Tornkvist that super-horizon photons acquire mass during inflation. We compute a photon mass-suqared of about 3.2991 H^2. The scalar stays perturbatively light with a mass-squared of about 0.…
We present some consequences of non-anomalous propagation requirements on various massless fields. Among the models of nonlinear electrodynamics we show that only Maxwell and Born-Infeld also obey duality invariance. Separately we show that, for actions depending only on the $F_\mn^2$ invariant, the permitted models have $L \sim \sqrt{1 + F^2}$. We also characterize acceptable vector-scalar systems. Finally we find that wide classes of gravity models share with Einstein the null nature of their characteristic surfaces.
A primordial magnetic field may be generated during an inflationary period if conformal invariance is broken. We reexamine and generalize previous results about the magnetic field produced by couplings of the form $R^n F_{μν}F^{μν}$. We show that the amplitude of the magnetic field depends strongly on $n$. For adequate values of $n$ the field produced can serve as seed for galactic magnetic fields. We also compute the effective interaction between the electromagnetic field and the geometry in the context of scalar QED (with and without classical conformal invariance). In both cases, the amplit…
In this thesis, we aim to find the asymptotic symmetries of the Kalb-Ramond field in four dimensions at future null infinity. We start by reviewing the asymptotic symmetries of electrodynamics in four-dimensional Minkowski spacetime at future null infinity. We continue by investigating the asymptotic symmetries of the Kalb-Ramond field at future null infinity. We motivate the fall-off conditions by demanding the finiteness of energy, momentum, angular momentum and charge flux through future null infinity. We expand the gauge fields in ``radial" and Lorenz gauge and compute the generating charg…
In this essay it will be shown that the introduction of a modification to Heisenberg algebra (here this feature means the existence of a minimal obserlvable length), as a fundamental part of the quantization process of the electrodynamical field, renders states in which the uncertainties in the two quadrature components violate the usual Heisenberg uncertainty relation. Hence in this context it may be asserted that any physically realistic generalization of the uncertainty principle must include, not only a minimal observable length, but also a minimal observable momentum.
A recently proposed model for nonlinear electrodynamics has been minimally coupled to dimensionally continued gravity and the topological black holes in the presence of conformal scalar field were studied. In this setup, the new magnetized hairy black hole solution has been found and its thermodynamic properties have also been analyzed. The exact expressions for mass, entropy, Hawking temperature and heat capacity are derived and local thermodynamic stability for the resulting black holes has been checked. In addition to this, the modified Smarr's formula is constructed and the generalized fir…
We analytically study the properties of a $(2+1)$-dimensional $s$-wave holographic superconductor in the presence of exponential nonlinear electrodynamics. We consider the case in which the scalar and gauge fields back react on the background metric. Employing the analytical Sturm-Liouville method, we find that in the black hole background, the nonlinear electrodynamics correction will affect the properties of the holographic superconductors. We find that with increasing both backreaction and nonlinear parameters, the scalar hair condensation on the boundary will develop more difficult. We obt…
