A recently proposed model for nonlinear electrodynamics has been minimally coupled to dimensionally continued gravity and the topological black holes in the presence of conformal scalar field were studied. In this setup, the new magnetized hairy black hole solution has been found and its thermodynamic properties have also been analyzed. The exact expressions for mass, entropy, Hawking temperature and heat capacity are derived and local thermodynamic stability for the resulting black holes has been checked. In addition to this, the modified Smarr's formula is constructed and the generalized first law has also been verified. Finally, the hairy magnetized black holes in general Lovelock-scalar gravity have also been studied.
Boundary terms for Lovelock gravity are obtained by calculating in arbitrary dimension the index theorem for the de Rham complex of a manifold with nonempty boundary.
In this paper, for dimensionally continued gravity coupled to Born-Infeld electromagnetic field, we construct topological black holes in diverse dimensions and construct dyonic black holes in general even dimensions. We study thermodynamics of the black holes and obtain first laws. We study thermal phase transitions of the black holes in $T$-$S$ plane and find van der Waals-like phase transitions for even-dimensional spherical black holes, such phase transitions are not found for other types of black holes constructed in this paper.
In a recent paper [arXiv:1302.6382] Emparan, Suzuki, and Tanabe studied general relativity in the limit in which the number of spacetime dimensions D tends to infinity. They showed that, in such limit, the theory simplifies notably. It reduces to a theory whose fundamental objects, black holes and black branes, behave as non-interacting particles. Here, we consider a different way of extending gravity to D dimensions. We present a special limit of dimensionally continued gravity in which black holes retain their gravitational interaction at large D and still have entropy proportional to the ma…
We study the thermal phase transitions of charged black holes in dimensionally continued gravity in anti-de Sitter space. We find the van der Waals-like phase transition in the temperature-entropy plane of the black holes with spherical horizons in even dimensions, and there is no such phase transition of the black holes with flat and hyperbolic geometries. Near the critical inflection point, the critical exponent is computed and its value does not depend on the dimension. The Maxwell equal area law is checked to be fulfilled in the temperature-entropy diagram for the first order phase transit…
In this paper, a large family of topological black hole solutions of dimensionally continued gravity are derived. The action of Lovelock gravity is coupled to the exponential electrodynamics and the equations of motion are solved in the presence of a pure magnetic source. We work out the metric functions in terms of the parameter $β$ of exponential electrodynamics, and magnetic charge. Further, we couple Lovelock gravity to power-Yang-Mills theory and construct black holes, in diverse dimensions, having Yang-Mills magnetic charge. We also discuss the asymptotic bahaviour of metric functions an…
We perform a thorough study of the thermodynamic properties of a class of Lovelock black holes with conformal scalar hair arising from coupling of a real scalar field to the dimensionally extended Euler densities. We study the linearized equations of motion of the theory and describe constraints under which the theory is free from ghosts/tachyons. We then consider, within the context of black hole chemistry, the thermodynamics of the hairy black holes in the Gauss-Bonnet and cubic Lovelock theories. We clarify the connection between isolated critical points and thermodynamic singularities, fin…
Lovelock gravity consisting of the dimensionally continued Euler densities is a natural generalization of general relativity to higher dimensions such that equations of motion are still second order, and the theory is free of ghosts. A scalar field with a positive potential that yields an accelerating universe has been termed quintessence. We present exact black hole solutions in $D$-dimensional Lovelock gravity surrounded by quintessence matter and also perform a detailed thermodynamical study. Further, we find that the mass, entropy, and temperature of the black hole are corrected due to the…
In this work, we have assumed the generalized Vaidya solution in Lovelock theory of gravity in $(n+2)$-dimensions. It has been shown that Gauss-Bonnet gravity, dimensionally continued Lovelock gravity and pure Lovelock gravity can be constructed by suitable choice of parameters. We have investigated the occurrence of singularities formed by the gravitational collapse in above three particular forms of Lovelock theory of gravity. The dependence of the nature of singularity on the existence of radial null geodesic for Vaidya space-time has been specially considered. In all the three models, we h…
In this paper, we study existence and stability of static black holes in Lovelock theories with a particular focus on pure Lovelock black holes. We derive the equation of stability from action without using S-deformation approach. It turns out that though pure-Lovelock black hole in even dimension is always unstable, however introduction of $Λ$ stablizes it by prescribing a lower threshold mass while there also exists an upper bound on mass which is given by existence of horizon. We also study stability of dimensionally continued black holes as well as of pure Lovelock analogue of BTZ black ho…
Low energy limits of a string theory suggest that the gravity action should include quadratic and higher-order curvature terms, in the form of dimensionally continued Gauss-Bonnet densities. Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet is a natural extension of the general relativity to higher dimensions in which the first and second-order terms correspond, respectively, to general relativity and Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We obtain five-dimensional ($5D$) black hole solutions, inspired by a noncommutative geometry, with a static spherically symmetric, Gaussian mass distribution as a source both in the general r…
We consider static spherically symmetric Lovelock black holes and generalize the dimensionally continued black holes in such a way that they asymptotically for large r go over to the d-dimensional Schwarzschild black hole in dS/AdS spacetime. This means that the master algebraic polynomial is not degenerate but instead its derivative is degenerate. This family of solutions contains an interesting class of pure Lovelock black holes which are the Nth order Lovelock Λ-vacuum solu- tions having the remarkable property that their thermodynamical parameters have the universal character in terms of t…
Low energy limits of string theory indicated that the standard gravity action should be modified to include higher-order curvature terms, in the form of dimensionally continued Gauss-Bonnet densities. If one includes only quadratic curvature terms then the resulting theory is Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity valid only in $D>4$ dimensions. Recently there has been a surge of interest in regularizing, a $ D \to 4 $ limit, of EGB gravity, and the resulting regularized $4D$ EGB gravities have nontrivial gravitational dynamics. We obtain a static spherically symmetric noncommutative (NC) geometr…
