Let $K=\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[n]{a})$ be an extension of degree $n$ of the field $\Q$ of rational numbers, where the integer $a$ is such that for each prime $p$ dividing $n$ either $p\nmid a$ or the highest power of $p$ dividing $a$ is coprime to $p$; this condition is clearly satisfied when $a, n$ are coprime or $a$ is squarefree. The present paper gives explicit construction of an integral basis of $K$ along with applications. This construction of an integral basis of $K$ extends a result proved in [J. Number Theory, {173} (2017), 129-146] regarding periodicity of integral bases of $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[n]{a})$ when $a$ is squarefree.
An integral basis of the simplest number fields of degree 3,4 and 6 over $\mathbb{Q}$ are well-known, and widely investigated. We generalize the simplest number fields to any degree, and show that an integral basis of these fields is repeating periodically.
In this paper, based on techniques of Newton polygons, a result which allows the computation of a p integral basis of every quartic number field is given. For each prime integer p, this result allows to compute a p-integral basis of a quartic number field K defined by an irreducible polynomial $P(X) = X4 + aX + b \in\z[X]$ in methodical and complete generality.
Let $m\neq0,\pm1$ and $n\geq 2$ be integers. The ring of algebraic integers of the pure fields of type $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[n]{m})$ is explicitly known for $n=2,3,4$. It is well known that for $n=2$, an integral basis of the pure quadratic fields can be given parametrically, by using the remainder of the square-free part of $m$ modulo 4. Such characterisation of an integral basis also exists for cubic and quartic pure fields, but for higher degree pure fields there are only results for special cases.\\ In this paper we explicitly give an integral basis of the field $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[n]{m})$, wher…
Let $K = \Q(θ)$ be an algebraic number field with $θ$ satisfying an irreducible polynomial $x^{9} - a$ over the field $\Q$ of rationals and $\Z_K$ denote the ring of algebraic integers of $K$. In this article, we provide the exact power of each prime which divides the index of the subgroup $\Z[θ]$ in $\Z_K$. Further, we give a $p$-integral basis of $K$ for each prime $p$. These $p$-integral bases lead to a construction of an integral basis of $K$ which is illustrated with examples.
We determine an explicit triangular integral basis for any separable cubic extension of a rational function field over a finite field in any characteristic. We obtain a formula for the discriminant of every such extension in terms of a standard form in a tower for the Galois closure.
Let $K=\mathbb Q(θ)$ be an algebraic number field with $θ$ a root of an irreducible trinomial $f(x)=x^6+ax+b$ belonging to $\mathbb{Z}[x]$. In this paper, for each prime number $p$ we compute the highest power of $p$ dividing the discriminant of $K$ in terms of the prime powers dividing $a,~b$ and discriminant of $f(x)$. An explicit $p$-integral basis of $K$ is also given for each prime $p$ and a method is described to obtain an integral basis of $K$ from these $p$-integral bases which is illustrated with examples.
It is a classical problem in algebraic number theory to decide if a number field admits power integral bases and further to calculate all generators of power integral bases. This problem is especially delicate to consider in an infinite parametric family of number fields. In the present paper we investigate power integral bases in the infinite parametric family of pure quartic fields $K=Q(\sqrt[4]{m})$. We often pointed out close connection of various types of Thue equations with calculating power integral bases. In this paper we determine power integral bases in pure quartic fields by reducin…
Let $m$ be a square-free integer ($m\neq 0,\pm 1$). We show that the structure of the integral bases of the fields $K=Q(\sqrt[n]{m})$ are periodic in $m$. For $3\leq n\leq 9$ we show that the period length is $n^2$. We explicitly describe the integral bases, and for $n=3,4,5,6,8$ we explicitly calculate the index forms of $K$. This enables us in many cases to characterize the monogenity of these fields. Using the explicit form of the index forms yields a new technic that enables us to derive new results on monogenity and to get several former results as easy consequences. For $n=4,6,8$ we give…
Let L be an abelian number field of degree n with Galois group G. In this paper we study how to compute efficiently a normal integral basis for L, if there is at least one, assuming that the group G and an integral basis for L are known.
Let $K=\mathbb{Q}(α)$ be a number field generated by a complex root $α$ of a monic irreducible polynomial $f(x)=x^{12}-m$, with $m\neq 1$ is a square free rational integer. In this paper, we prove that if $m \equiv 2$ or $3$ (mod 4) and $m\not\equiv \mp 1$ (mod 9), then the number field $K$ is monogenic. If $m \equiv 1$ (mod 8) or $m\equiv \mp 1$ (mod 9), then the number field $K$ is not monogenic.
Let $L/K$ be a finite Galois extension of $p$-adic fields with group $G$. It is well-known that $\mathcal{O}_L$ contains a free $\mathcal{O}_K[G]$-submodule of finite index. We study the minimal index of such a free submodule, and determine it exactly in several cases, including for any cyclic extension of degree $p$ of $p$-adic fields.
Let $K$ be a pure number field generated by a complex root of a monic irreducible polynomial $F(x)=x^{60}-m\in \mathbb{Z}[x]$, with $m\neq \pm1$ a square free integer. In this paper, we study the monogeneity of $K$. We prove that if $m\not\equiv 1\md{4}$, $m\not\equiv \mp 1 \md{9} $ and $\overline{m}\not\in\{\mp 1,\mp 7\} \md{25}$, then $K$ is monogenic. But if $m\equiv 1\md{4}$, $m\equiv \mp1 \md{9}$, or $m\equiv \mp 1\md{25}$, then $K$ is not monogenic. Our results are illustrated by examples.
Let $A$ be a Dedekind domain, $K$ the fraction field of $A$, and $f\in A[x]$ a monic irreducible separable polynomial. For a given non-zero prime ideal $\mathfrak{p}$ of $A$ we present in this paper a new method to compute a $\mathfrak{p}$-integral basis of the extension of $K$ determined by $f$. Our method is based on the use of simple multipliers that can be constructed with the data that occurs along the flow of the Montes Algorithm. Our construction of a $\mathfrak{p}$-integral basis is significantly faster than the similar approach from $[7]$ and provides in many cases a priori a triangul…
Let $K = \mathbb{Q} (α) $ be a pure number field generated by a complex root $α$ of a monic irreducible polynomial $ F(x) = x^{2^u\cdot 3^v}-m$, with $m \neq \pm 1$ a square free rational integer, $u$, and $v$ two positive integers. In this paper, we study the monogenity of $K$. The case $u=0$ or $v=0$ has been previously studied. We prove that if $m\not\equiv 1$ (mod4) and $m\not\equiv \pm 1$ (mod9), then $K$ is monogenic. But if $m\equiv 1$ (mod4) or $m\equiv 1$ (mod9), then $K$ is not monogenic. Some illustrating examples are given too.
We introduce a canonical form for reduced bases of integral closures of discrete valuation rings, and we describe an algorithm for computing a basis in reduced normal form. This normal form has the same applications as the Hermite normal form: identification of isomorphic objects, construction of global bases by patching local ones, etc. but in addition the bases are reduced, which is a crutial property for several important applications. Except for very particular cases, a basis in Hermite normal form cannot be reduced.
Let $F/E$ be a finite Galois extension of fields with abelian Galois group $Γ$. A self-dual normal basis for $F/E$ is a normal basis with the additional property that $Tr_{F/E}(g(x),h(x))=δ_{g,h}$ for $g,h\inΓ$. Bayer-Fluckiger and Lenstra have shown that when $char(E)\neq 2$, then $F$ admits a self-dual normal basis if and only if $[F:E]$ is odd. If $F/E$ is an extension of finite fields and $char(E)=2$, then $F$ admits a self-dual normal basis if and only if the exponent of $Γ$ is not divisible by $4$. In this paper we construct self-dual normal basis generators for finite extensions of fini…
Let $m$ be an integer, $m\neq -8,-3,0,5$ such that $m^2+3m+9$ is square free. Let $α$ be a root of \[ f=x^6-2mx^5-(5m+15)x^4-20x^3+5mx^2+(2m+6)x+1. \] The totally real cyclic fields $K=Q(α)$ are called simplest sextic fields and are well known in the literature. Using a completely new approach we explicitly give an integral basis of $K$ in a parametric form and we show that the structure of this integral basis is periodic in $m$ with period length 36. We prove that $K$ is not monogenic except for a few values of $m$ in which cases we give all generators of power integral bases.
In this article, we give an explicit construction of the $p$-adic Fourier transform by Schneider and Teitelbaum, which allows for the investigation of the integral property. As an application, we give a certain integral basis of the space of $K$-locally analytic functions on the ring of integers $\mathcal{O}_K$ for any finite extension $K$ of $\mathbb{Q}_p$, generalizing the basis constructed by Amice for locally analytic functions on $\mathbb{Z}_p$. We also use our result to prove congruences of Bernoulli-Hurwitz numbers at non-ordinary (i.e. supersingular) primes originally investigated by K…
To every hyperelliptic curve one can assign the periods of the integrals over the holomorphic and the meromorphic differentials. By comparing two representations of the so-called projective connection it is possible to reexpress the latter periods by the first. This leads to expressions including only the curve's parameters $λ_j$ and modular forms. By a change of basis of the meromorphic differentials one can further simplify this expression. We discuss the advantages of these explicitly given bases, which we call Baker and Klein basis, respectively.
