In this note we show that the general theory of vector valued singular integral operators of Calderón-Zygmund defined on general metric measure spaces, can be applied to obtain Sobolev type regularity properties for solutions of the dyadic fractional Laplacian. In doing so, we define partial derivatives in terms of Haar multipliers and dyadic homogeneous singular integral operators.
In this paper we explore conditions on variable symbols with respect to Haar systems, defining Calderón-Zygmund type operators with respect to the dyadic metrics associated to the Haar bases. We show that Petermichl's dyadic kernel can be seen as a variable kernel singular integral and we extend it to dyadic systems built on spaces of homogeneous type.
We study the removability of a singular set for elliptic equations involving weight functions and variable exponents. We consider the case where the singular set satisfies conditions related to some generalization of upper Minkowski content or a net measure, and give sufficient conditions for removability of this singularity for equations in the weighted variable exponent Sobolev spaces.
Let $0<α<d$ and $1\leq p<d/α$. We present a proof that for all $f\in W^{1,p}(\mathbb{R}^d)$ both the centered and the uncentered Hardy-Littlewood fractional maximal operator $\mathcal M_αf$ are weakly differentiable and $ \|\nabla\mathcal M_αf\|_{p^*} \leq C_{d,α,p} \|\nabla f\|_p , $ where $ p^* = (p^{-1}-α/d)^{-1} . $ In particular it covers the endpoint case $p=1$ for $0<α<1$ where the bound was previously unknown. For $p=1$ we can replace $W^{1,1}(\mathbb{R}^d)$ by $\mathrm{BV}(\mathbb{R}^d)$. The ingredients used are a pointwise estimate for the gradient of the fractional maximal function…
In this paper we consider Sobolev inequalities associated with singular problems for the fractional $p$-Laplacian operator in a bounded domain of $\mathbb{R}^{N}$, $N\geq 2$.
Sobolev-type regularity results are proved for solutions to a class of second order elliptic equations with a singular or degenerate weight, under non-homogeneous Neumann conditions. As an application a Pohozaev-type identity for weak solutions is derived.
In this article we study singular subelliptic $p$-Laplace equations and best constants in Sobolev inequalities on nilpotent Lie groups. We prove solvability of these subelliptic $p$-Laplace equations and existence of the minimizer of the corresponding variational problem. It leads to existence of the best constant in the corresponding $(q,p)$-Sobolev inequality, $0<q<1$, $1<p<ν$.
Given $n \in \mathbb{N}_*$, a compact Riemannian manifold $M$ and a Sobolev map $u \in W^{n/(n + 1), n + 1} (\mathbb{S}^n; M)$, we construct a map $U$ in the Sobolev-Marcinkiewicz (or Lorentz-Sobolev) space $W^{1, (n + 1, \infty)} (\mathbb{B}^{n + 1}; M)$ such that $u = U$ in the sense of traces on $\mathbb{S}^{n} = \partial \mathbb{B}^{n + 1}$ and whose derivative is controlled: for every $λ> 0$, $$ λ^{n + 1} \big\vert\big\{ x \in \mathbb{B}^{n + 1} : \vert D U (x)\vert > λ\big\}\big\vert \le γ\Big(\int_{\mathbb{S}^n}\int_{\mathbb{S}^n} \frac{\vert u (y) - u (z)\vert^{n + 1}}{\vert y - z\vert…
We introduce an operator $\mathbf{S}$ on vector-valued maps $u$ which has the ability to capture the relevant topological information carried by $u$. In particular, this operator is defined on maps that take values in a closed submanifold $N$ of the Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^m$, and coincides with the distributional Jacobian in case $N$ is a sphere. The range of $\mathbf{S}$ is a set of maps whose values are flat chains with coefficients in a suitable normed abelian group. In this paper, we use $\mathbf{S}$ to characterise strong limits of smooth, $N$-valued maps with respect to Sobolev norm…
In this paper, we prove a version of weighted inequalities of exponential type for fractional integrals with sharp constants in any domain of finite measure in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$. Using this we prove a sharp singular Adams inequality in high order Sobolev spaces in bounded domain at critical case. Then we prove sharp singular Adams inequalities for high order derivatives on unbounded domains. Our results extend the singular Moser-Trudinger inequalities of first order in \cite{Ad2, R, LR, AdY} to the higher order Sobolev spaces $W^{m,\frac{n}{m}}$ and the results of \cite{RS} on Adams type inequa…
In this paper we study several inequalities of log-Sobolev type for Dunkl operators. After proving an equivalent of the classical inequality for the usual Dunkl measure $μ_k$, we also study a number of inequalities for probability measures of Boltzmann type of the form $e^{-|x|^p} dμ_k$. These are obtained using the method of $U$-bounds. Poincaré inequalities are obtained as consequences of the log-Sobolev inequality. The connection between Poincaré and log-Sobolev inequalities is further examined, obtaining in particular tight log-Sobolev inequalities. Finally, we study application to exponen…
We obtain some nonlocal characterizations for a class of variable exponent Sobolev spaces arising in nonlinear elasticity theory and in the theory of electrorheological fluids. We also get a singular limit formula extending Nguyen results to the anisotropic case.
This article develops a novel approach to the representation of singular integral operators of Calderón-Zygmund type in terms of continuous model operators, in both the classical and the bi-parametric setting. The representation is realized as a finite sum of averages of wavelet projections of either cancellative or noncancellative type, which are themselves Calderón-Zygmund operators. Both properties are out of reach for the established dyadic-probabilistic technique. Unlike their dyadic counterparts, our representation reflects the additional kernel smoothness of the operator being analyzed.…
In this article, we consider mixed local and nonlocal Sobolev $(q,p)$-inequalities with extremal in the case $0<q<1<p<\infty$. We prove that the extremal of such inequalities is unique up to a multiplicative constant that is associated with a singular elliptic problem involving the mixed local and nonlocal $p$-Laplace operator. Moreover, it is proved that the mixed Sobolev inequalities are necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of weak solutions of such singular problems. As a consequence, a relation between the singular $p$-Laplace and mixed local and nonlocal $p$-Laplace equati…
Subdifferentials of a singular convex functional representing the surface free energy of a crystal under the roughening temperature are characterized. The energy functional is defined on Sobolev spaces of order -1, so the subdifferential mathematically formulates the energy's gradient which formally involves 4th order spacial derivatives of the surface's height. The subdifferentials are analyzed in the negative Sobolev spaces of arbitrary spacial dimension on which both a periodic boundary condition and a Dirichlet boundary condition are separately imposed. Based on the characterization theore…
Perfect dyadic operators were first introduced in \cite{AHMTT}, where a local $T(b)$ theorem was proved for such operators. In \cite{AY} it was shown that for every singular integral operator $T$ with locally bounded kernel on $\mathbb{R}^n \times \mathbb{R}^n$ there exists a perfect dyadic operator $\mathbb{T}$ such that $T -\mathbb{T}$ is bounded on $L^p (dx)$ for all $1<p<\infty$. In this paper we show a decomposition of perfect dyadic operators on real line into four well known operators: two selfadjoint operators, paraproduct and its adjoint. Based on this decomposition we prove a sharp w…
The purpose of this paper is to study a class of double phase problems, with a singular term and a superlinear parametric term on the right-hand side. Using the method of Nehari manifold combined with the fibering maps, we prove that for all small values of the parameter λ > 0, there exist at least two non-trivial positive solutions. Our results extend the previous works Papageorgiou, Repovus, and Vetro [24] and Liu, Dai, Papageorgiou, and Winkert [21], from the case of Musielak-Orlicz Sobolev space, when exponents p and q are constant, to the case of Sobolev-Orlicz spaces with variable expone…
Sobolev wavefront sets and $2$-microlocal spaces play a key role in describing and analyzing the singularities of distributions in microlocal analysis and solutions of partial differential equations. Employing the continuous shearlet transform to Sobolev spaces, in this paper we characterize the microlocal Sobolev wavefront sets, the $2$-microlocal spaces, and local Hölder spaces of distributions/functions. We then establish the connections among Sobolev wavefront sets, $2$-microlocal spaces, and local Hölder spaces through the continuous shearlet transform.
We generalize the Stein-Tomas [17] $L^2$-restricition theorem and the uniform Sobolev estimates of Kenig, Ruiz and the second author [11] by allowing critically singular potential. We also obtain Strichartz estimates for Schrödinger and wave operators with such potentials. Due to the fact that there may be nontrivial eigenfunctions we are required to make certain spectral assumptions, such as assuming that the solutions only involve sufficiently large frequencies.
In this paper we prove the existence of positive solutions of the following singular quasilinear Schrödinger equations at critical growth \begin{eqnarray*} -Δu-λc(x)u-κα(Δ(|u|^{2α}))|u|^{2α-2}u = |u|^{q-2}u+|u|^{2^*-2}u,\quad u\in{D^{1,2}(\mathbb{R}}^N), \end{eqnarray*} via variational methods, where $λ\geq0$, $0<α<1/2$, $2<q<2^*$. It is interesting that we do not need to add a weight function to control $|u|^{q-2}u$.
We establish the local and global theory for the Cauchy problem of the singular Hartree equation in three dimensions, that is, the modification of the non-linear Schrödinger equation with Hartree non-linearity, where the linear part is now given by the Hamiltonian of point interaction. The latter is a singular, self-adjoint perturbation of the free Laplacian, modelling a contact interaction at a fixed point. The resulting non-linear equation is the typical effective equation for the dynamics of condensed Bose gases with fixed point-like impurities. We control the local solution theory in the p…
We show that Petermichl's dyadic operator $\mathcal{P}$ (S. Petermichl (2000), Dyadic shifts and a logarithmic estimate for Hankel operators with matrix symbol) is a Calderón-Zygmund type operator on an adequate metric normal space of homogeneous type. As a consequence of a general result on spaces of homogeneous type, we get weighted boundedness of the maximal operator $\mathcal{P}^*$ of truncations of the singular integral. We show that dyadic $A_p$ weights are the good weights for the maximal operator $\mathcal{P}^*$ of the scale truncations of $\mathcal{P}$.
We define a very general "parametric connect sum" construction which can be used to eliminate isolated conical singularities of Riemannian manifolds. We then show that various important analytic and elliptic estimates, formulated in terms of weighted Sobolev spaces, can be obtained independently of the parameters used in the construction. Specifically, we prove uniform estimates related to (i) Sobolev Embedding Theorems, (ii) the invertibility of the Laplace operator and (iii) Poincare' and Gagliardo-Nirenberg-Sobolev type inequalities. Our main tools are the well-known theories of weighted So…
In this paper, following the techniques of Foias and Temam, we establish suitable Gevrey class regularity of solutions to the supercritical quasi-geostrophic equations in the whole space, with initial data in "critical" Sobolev spaces. Moreover, the Gevrey class that we obtain is "near optimal" and as a corollary, we obtain temporal decay rates of higher order Sobolev norms of the solutions. Unlike the Navier-Stokes or the subcritical quasi-geostrophic equations, the low dissipation poses a difficulty in establishing Gevrey regularity. A new commutator estimate in Gevrey classes, involving the…
For a given Finsler-Minkowski norm $\mathcal{F}$ in $\mathbb{R}^N$ and a bounded smooth domain $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^N$ $\big(N\geq 2\big)$, we establish the following weighted anisotropic Sobolev inequality $$ S\left(\int_Ω|u|^q f\,dx\right)^\frac{1}{q}\leq\left(\int_Ω\mathcal{F}(\nabla u)^p w\,dx\right)^\frac{1}{p},\quad\forall\,u\in W_0^{1,p}(Ω,w)\leqno{\mathcal{(P)}} $$ where $W_0^{1,p}(Ω,w)$ is the weighted Sobolev space under a class of $p$-admissible weights $w$, where $f$ is some nonnegative integrable function in $Ω$. We discuss the case $0<q<1$ and observe that $$ μ(Ω):=\inf_{u\in W_{0…
The main aim of this article is to study non-singular version of Moser-Trudinger and Adams-Moser-Trudinger inequalities and the singular version of Moser-Trudinger equality in the Cartesian product of Sobolev spaces. As an application of these inequalities, we study a system of Kirchhoff equations with exponential non-linearity of Choquard type.
In this article we compute the best Sobolev constants for various Hardy-Sobolev inequalities with sharp Hardy term. This is carried out in three different environments: interior point singularity in Euclidean space, interior point singularity in hyperbolic space and boundary point singularity in Euclidean domains.
We establish sharp $L^2$-Sobolev estimates for classes of pseudodifferential operators with singular symbols whose non-pseudodifferential (Fourier integral operator) parts exhibit two-sided fold singularities. The operators considered include both singular integral operators along curves in $R^2$ with simple inflection points and normal operators arising in linearized seismic imaging in the presence of fold caustics.
In this article we study a singular Vlasov system on the torus where the force field has the smoothness of a (fractional) derivative $D^α$ of the density, where $α>0$. We prove local well-posedness in Sobolev spaces without restriction on the data. This is in sharp contrast with the case $α=0$ which is ill-posed in Sobolev spaces for general data.
Let $N \geq 3$ and $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^N$ be $C^2$ bounded domain. We study the existence of positive solution $u \in H^1(Ω)$ of \begin{align*} \left\{ \begin{array}{l} -Δu + λu = \frac{|u|^{2^*(s)-2}u}{|x-x_1|^s} + \frac{|u|^{2^*(s)-2}u}{|x-x_2|^s}\text{ in }Ω\\ \frac{\partial u}{\partial ν} = 0 \text{ on }\partialΩ, \end{array}\right. \end{align*} where $0 < s <2$, $2^*(s) = \frac{2(N-s)}{N-2}$ and $x_1, x_2 \in \overlineΩ$ with $x_1 \neq x_2$. First, we show the existence of positive solutions to the equation provided the positive $λ$ is small enough. In case that one of the singularities …
We obtain generalizations of the uniform Sobolev inequalities of Kenig, Ruiz and the fourth author \cite{KRS} for Euclidean spaces and Dos Santos Ferreira, Kenig and Salo \cite{DKS} for compact Riemannian manifolds involving critically singular potentials $V\in L^{n/2}$. We also obtain the analogous improved quasimode estimates of the the first, third and fourth authors \cite{BSS} , Hassell and Tacy \cite{HassellTacy}, the first and fourth author \cite{SBLog}, and Hickman \cite{Hickman} as well as analogues of the improved uniform Sobolev estimates of \cite{BSSY} and \cite{Hickman} involving s…
We study the stochastic heat equation with trace class noise and zero Dirichlet boundary condition on a bounded polygonal domain O in R^2. It is shown that the solution u can be decomposed into a regular part u_R and a singular part u_S which incorporates the corner singularity functions for the Poisson problem. Due to the temporal irregularity of the noise, both u_R and u_S have negative L_2-Sobolev regularity of order s<-1/2 in time. The regular part u_R admits spatial Sobolev regularity of order r=2, while the spatial Sobolev regularity of u_S is restricted by r<1+π/γ, where γis the largest…
Sobolev spaces are a natural framework for the analysis of problems in partial differential equations and calculus of variations. Some physical and geometric contexts, such as liquid crystals models and harmonic maps, lead to consider Sobolev maps, that is, Sobolev vector functions whose range is constrained in a surface or submanifold of the space. This additional nonlinear constraint provokes the appearance of finite-energy topological singularities. These singularities are characterized by a nontrivial topological invariant such as the topological degree, they represent an obstruction to th…
This article deals with the study of the following singular quasilinear equation: \begin{equation*} (P) \left\{ \ -Δ_{p}u -Δ_{q}u = f(x) u^{-δ},\; u>0 \text{ in }\; \Om; \; u=0 \text{ on } \pa\Om, \right. \end{equation*} where $\Om$ is a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^N$ with $C^2$ boundary $\pa\Om$, $1< q< p<\infty$, $\de>0$ and $f\in L^\infty_{loc}(\Om)$ is a non-negative function which behaves like $\textnormal{dist}(x,\pa\Om)^{-\ba},$ $\ba\ge 0$ near the boundary of $\Om$. We prove the existence of a weak solution in $W^{1,p}_{loc}(\Om)$ and its behaviour near the boundary for $\ba<p$. Cons…
Let $Ω$ be a smooth, bounded domain of $\mathbb{R}^{N}$, $ω$ be a positive, $L^{1}$-normalized function, and $0<s<1<p.$ We study the asymptotic behavior, as $p\rightarrow\infty,$ of the pair $\left( \sqrt[p]{Λ_{p}% },u_{p}\right) ,$ where $Λ_{p}$ is the best constant $C$ in the Sobolev type inequality \[ C\exp\left( \int_Ω(\log\left\vert u\right\vert ^{p})ω\mathrm{d}x\right) \leq\left[ u\right] _{s,p}^{p}\quad\forall\,u\in W_{0}^{s,p}(Ω) \] and $u_{p}$ is the positive, suitably normalized extremal function corresponding to $Λ_{p}$. We show that the limit pairs are closely related to the proble…
For kernels $ν$ which are positive and integrable we show that the operator $g\mapsto J_νg=\int_0^x ν(x-s)g(s)ds$ on a finite time interval enjoys a regularizing effect when applied to Hölder continuous and Lebesgue functions and a "contractive" effect when applied to Sobolev functions. For Hölder continuous functions, we establish that the improvement of the regularity of the modulus of continuity is given by the integral of the kernel, namely by the factor $N(x)=\int_0^x ν(s)ds$. For functions in Lebesgue spaces, we prove that an improvement always exists, and it can be expressed in terms of…
