In this paper, we consider a non-autonomous nonlinear evolution equation in separable, reflexive Banach spaces. First, we consider a linear problem and establish the approximate controllability results by finding a feedback control with the help of an optimal control problem. We then establish the approximate controllability results for a semilinear differential equation in Banach spaces using the theory of linear evolution systems, properties of resolvent operator and Schauder's fixed point theorem. Finally, we provide an example of a non-autonomous, nonlinear diffusion equation in Banach spaces to validate the results we obtained.
This article investigates the approximate controllability of second order non-autonomous functional evolution equations involving non-instantaneous impulses and nonlocal conditions. First, we discuss the approximate controllability of second order linear system in detail, which lacks in the existing literature. Then, we derive sufficient conditions for approximate controllability of our system in separable reflexive Banach spaces via linear evolution operator, resolvent operator conditions, and Schauder's fixed point theorem. Moreover, in this paper, we define proper identification of resolven…
The present paper deals with the control problems governed by fractional non-instantaneous impulsive functional evolution equations with state-dependent delay involving Caputo fractional derivatives in Banach spaces. The main objective of this work is to formulate sufficient conditions for the approximate controllability of the considered system in separable reflexive Banach spaces. We have exploited the resolvent operator technique and Schauder's fixed point theorem in the proofs to achieve this goal. The approximate controllability of linear system is discussed in detail, which lacks in the …
The current article examines the approximate controllability problem for non-instantaneous impulsive fractional evolution equations of order $1<α<2$ with state-dependent delay in separable reflexive Banach spaces. In order to establish sufficient conditions for the approximate controllability of our problem, we first formulate the linear-regulator problem and obtain the optimal control in feedback form. By using this optimal control, we deduce the approximate controllability of the linear fractional control system of order $1<α<2$. Further, we derive sufficient conditions for the approximate c…
In this paper, we are concerned with the approximate controllability results for a class of impulsive functional differential control systems involving time dependent operators in Banach spaces. First, we show the existence of a mild solution for non-autonomous functional impulsive evolution inclusions in separable reflexive Banach spaces with the help of the evolution family and a generalization of the Leray-Schauder fixed point theorem for multi-valued maps. In order to establish sufficient conditions for the approximate controllability of our problem, we first consider a linear-quadratic re…
In this article, we are discussing a more vital concept of controllability, termed total controllability. We have considered a nonlocal semilinear functional evolution equations with non-instantaneous impulses and finite delay in Hilbert spaces. A set of sufficient conditions of total controllability is obtained for the evolution system under consideration, by imposing the theory of C_0-semigroup and Banach fixed point theorem. We also established the total controllability results for a functional integro-differential equation. Finally, an example is given to demonstrate the feasibility of der…
The article is dedicated towards the study of fractional order non-linear differential systems with non-instantaneous impulses involving Riemann-Liouville derivatives with fixed lower limit and appropriate integral type initial conditions in Banach spaces. First, mild solution of the system is constructed and subsequently its existence is proven using Banach's fixed point theorem. Then, results of approximate controllability are established using concept of fractional semigroup and an iterative technique. Suitable examples are given in the end supporting the methodology along with pointing out…
We investigate a class of fractional neutral evolution equations on Banach spaces involving Caputo derivatives. Main results establish conditions for the controllability of the fractional-order system and conditions for existence of a solution to an optimal control problem of minimum energy. The results are proved with the help of fixed-point and semigroup theories.
The main purpose of this paper is to prove the controllability of the model proposed by Lazer and Mckenna under the influence of impulses, delay, and non-local conditions. First, we study approximate controllability by employing a technique that pulls back the control solution to a fixed curve in a short time interval. Subsequently, based on Banach Fixed Point Theorem we investigate the exact controllability.
We consider the observability problem for non-autonomous evolution systems (i.e., the operators governing the system depend on time). We introduce an averaged Hautus condition and prove that for skew-adjoint operators it characterizes exact observability. Next, we extend this to more general class of operators under a growth condition on the associated evolution family. We give an application to the Schrödinger equation with time dependent potential and the damped wave equation with a time dependent damping coefficient.
Existence and uniqueness of mild solutions and evolution operators for a class of non-autonomous conformable fractional semi-linear systems and Their Exact Null Controllability
We analyse the problem of controllability for parameter-dependent linear finite-dimensional systems. The goal is to identify the most distinguished realisations of those parameters so to better describe or approximate the whole range of controls. We adapt recent results on greedy and weak greedy algorithms for parameter depending PDEs or, more generally, abstract equations in Banach spaces. Our results lead to optimal approximation procedures that, in particular, perform better than simply sampling the parameter-space to compute the controls for each of the parameter values. We apply these res…

This paper is concerned with the application of Stackelberg-Nash strategies to control fourth order linear and semi-linear parabolic equations. We assume that the system is acted through a hierarchy of distributed controls: one main control (the leader) that is responsible for an exact controllability property; and a couple of secondary controls (the followers) that minimize two prescribed cost functionals and provides a pair of Nash equilibria for the two prescribed cost functionals. In this paper, we first prove the existence of an associated Nash equilibrium pair corresponding to a hierarch…
We establish existence, approximate controllability and optimal control of a class of impulsive non-local non-linear fractional dynamical systems in Banach spaces. We use fractional calculus, sectorial operators and Krasnoselskii fixed point theorems for the main results. Approximate controllability results are discussed with respect to the inhomogeneous non-linear part. Moreover, we prove existence results of optimal pairs of corresponding fractional control systems with a Bolza cost functional.
Connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) have a great potential to improve traffic efficiency in mixed traffic systems, which has been demonstrated by multiple numerical simulations and field experiments. However, some fundamental properties of mixed traffic flow, including controllability and stabilizability, have not been well understood. This paper analyzes the controllability of mixed traffic systems and designs a system-level optimal control strategy. Using the Popov-Belevitch-Hautus (PBH) criterion, we prove for the first time that a ring-road mixed traffic system with one CAV and multipl…
We study abstract sufficient criteria for open-loop stabilizability of linear control systems in a Banach space with a bounded control operator, which build up and generalize a sufficient condition for null-controllability in Banach spaces given by an uncertainty principle and a dissipation estimate. For stabilizability these estimates are only needed for a single spectral parameter and, in particular, their constants do not depend on the growth rate w.r.t. this parameter. Our result unifies and generalizes earlier results obtained in the context of Hilbert spaces. As an application we conside…
We survey some representative results on fuzzy fractional differential equations, controllability, approximate controllability, optimal control, and optimal feedback control for several different kinds of fractional evolution equations. Optimality and relaxation of multiple control problems, described by nonlinear fractional differential equations with nonlocal control conditions in Banach spaces, are considered.
In this paper, we consider families of linear systems (linear ensembles) defined by matrix pairs $\big( A(θ),B(θ) \big)$ depending on a parameter $θ\in \p$ that is varying over a compact subset $\p$ of the complex plane. In particular, we investigate the following control task: Find an open-loop control which is {\it independent} of the parameter $θ\in \p$ and steers a given family of initial states $x_0(θ)$ arbitrarily close to a desired family of terminal states $f(θ)$ in finite time. Here, the maps $θ\mapsto x_0(θ)$ and $θ\mapsto f(θ)$ are assumed to lie in a common appropriately chosen {Ba…
We study (approximate) null-controllability of parabolic equations in $L_p(\mathbb{R}^d)$ and provide explicit bounds on the control cost. In particular we consider systems of the form $\dot{x}(t) = -A_p x(t) + \mathbf{1}_E u(t)$, $x(0) = x_0\in L_p (\mathbb{R}^d)$, with interior control on a so-called thick set $E \subset \mathbb{R}^d$, where $p\in [1,\infty)$, and where $A$ is an elliptic operator of order $m \in \mathbb{N}$ in $L_p(\mathbb{R}^d)$. We prove null-controllability of this system via duality and a sufficient condition for observability. This condition is given by an uncertainty …
In this paper, we consider a nonlinear system of two parabolic equations, with a distributed control in the first equation and an odd coupling term in the second one. We prove that the nonlinear system is small-time locally null-controllable. The main difficulty is that the linearized system is not null-controllable. To overcome this obstacle, we extend in a nonlinear setting the strategy introduced by the first author that consists in constructing odd controls for the linear heat equation. The proof relies on three main steps. First, we obtain from the classical L^2 parabolic Carleman estimat…
We prove that the approximate null-controllability with uniform cost of the hypoelliptic Ornstein-Uhlenbeck equations posed on $\mathbb R^n$ is characterized by an integral thickness geometric condition on the control supports. We also provide associated quantitative weak observability estimates. This result for the hypoelliptic Ornstein-Uhlenbeck equations is deduced from the same study for a large class of non-autonomous elliptic equations from moving control supports. We generalize in particular results known for parabolic equations posed on $\mathbb R^n$, for which the approximate null-con…
We study non-autonomous observation systems \begin{align*} \dot{x}(t) = A(t) x(t),\quad y(t) = C(t) x(t),\quad x(0) = x_0\in X, \end{align*} where $(A(t))$ is a strongly measurable family of closed operators on a Banach space $X$ and $(C(t))$ is a family of bounded observation operators from $X$ to a Banach space $Y$. Based on an abstract uncertainty principle and a dissipation estimate, we prove that the observation system satisfies a final-state observability estimate in $\mathrm{L}^r(E; Y)$ for measurable subsets $E \subseteq [0,T], T > 0$. We present applications of the above result to fam…
A non-autonomous evolution semi-linear differential system under non-instantaneous impulses, delays, and perturbed by non-local conditions is studied. Its piece-wise continuous solutions belong to a finite-dimensional Banach space. The existence and uniqueness of solutions on the interval $[-r,τ]$ are obtained by applying Karakostas fixed-point theorem. Further results concerning solution prolongation are developed. An example is presented, and several remarks on the infinite-dimensional case are included.
In this paper, the null controllability in any positive time T of the first-order equation (1) x'(t)=e^{iθ}Ax(t)+Bu(t) (|θ|<π/2 fixed) is deduced from the null controllability in some positive time L of the second-order equation (2) z''(t)=Az(t)+Bv(t). The differential equations (1) and (2) are set in a Banach space, B is an admissible unbounded control operator, and A is a generator of cosine operator function. The control transmutation method explicits the input function u of (1) in terms of the input function v of (2): u(t,x)=\int k(t,s)v(s)ds, where the compactly supported kernel k depends…
Let $X,Y$ be Banach spaces, $(S_t)_{t \geq 0}$ a $C_0$-semigroup on $X$, $-A$ the corresponding infinitesimal generator on $X$, $C$ a bounded linear operator from $X$ to $Y$, and $T > 0$. We consider the system \[ \dot{x}(t) = -Ax(t), \quad y(t) = Cx(t) \quad t\in (0,T], \quad x(0) = x_0 \in X. \] We provide sufficient conditions such that this system satisfies a final state observability estimate in $L_r ((0,T) ; Y)$, $r \in [1,\infty]$. These sufficient conditions are given by an uncertainty relation and a dissipation estimate. Our approach unifies and generalizes the respective advantages f…
We consider some discrete and continuous dynamics in a Banach space involving a non expansive operator $J$ and a corresponding family of strictly contracting operators $Φ(λ,x):=λJ(\frac{1-λ}λx)$ for $λ\in]0,1]$. Our motivation comes from the study of two-player zero-sum repeated games, where the value of the $n$-stage game (resp. the value of the $λ$-discounted game) satisfies the relation $v_n=Φ(\frac{1}{n},v_{n-1})$ (resp. $v_λ=Φ(λ,v_λ)$) where $J$ is the Shapley operator of the game. We study the evolution equation $u'(t)=J(u(t))-u(t)$ as well as associated Eulerian schemes, establishing a …
In this paper the theory of evolution semigroups is developed and used to provide a framework to study the stability of general linear control systems. These include time-varying systems modeled with unbounded state-space operators acting on Banach spaces. This approach allows one to apply the classical theory of strongly continuous semigroups to time-varying systems. In particular, the complex stability radius may be expressed explicitly in terms of the generator of a (evolution) semigroup. Examples are given to show that classical formulas for the stability radius of an autonomous Hilbert-sp…
