The Fibonacci cube of dimension n, denoted as $Γ$ n , is the subgraph of the n-cube 5 Q n induced by vertices with no consecutive 1's. Ashrafi and his co-authors proved the non-existence of perfect codes in $Γ$ n for n $\ge$ 4. As an open problem the authors suggest to consider the existence of perfect codes in generalizations of Fibonacci cubes. The most direct generalization is the family $Γ$ n (1 s) of subgraphs induced by strings without 1 s as a substring where s $\ge$ 2 is a given integer. In a precedent work 10 we proved the existence of a perfect code in $Γ$ n (1 s) for n = 2 p -- 1 and s $\ge$ 3.2 p--2 for any integer p $\ge$ 2. The Lucas cube $Λ$ n is obtained from $Γ$ n by removing vertices that start and end with 1. Very often the same problems are studied on Fibonacci cubes and Lucas cube. In this note we prove the non-existence of perfect codes in $Λ$ n for n $\ge$ 4 and 15 prove the existence of perfect codes in some generalized Lucas cube $Λ$ n (1 s).
The diameter of a graph is the maximum distance between pairs of vertices in the graph. A pair of vertices whose distance is equal to its diameter are called diametrically opposite vertices. The collection of shortest paths between diametrically opposite vertices are referred as diametral paths. In this work, we enumerate the number of diametral paths for Fibonacci cubes, Lucas cubes and Alternate Lucas cubes. We present bijective proofs that show that these numbers are related to alternating permutations and are enumerated by Euler numbers.
The optimal cube factor of a graph, a special kind of component factor, is first introduced. Furthermore, the optimal cube factors of Fibonacci and matchable Lucas cubes are studied; and some results on the Padovan sequence and binomial coefficients are obtained.
Using a cube tiling of $\mathbb{R}^n$ constructed by Lagarias and Shor a tiling proof of three well-known binomial identities related to the Lucas cube is given.
A lucasene is a hexagon chain that is similar to a fibonaccene, an $L$-fence is a poset the Hasse diagram of which is isomorphic to the directed inner dual graph of the corresponding lucasene. A new class of cubes, which named after matchable Lucas cubes according to the number of its vertices (or elements), are a series of directed or undirected Hasse diagrams of filter lattices of $L$-fences. The basic properties and several classes of polynomials, e.g.\ rank generating functions, cube polynomials and degree sequence polynomials, of matchable Lucas cubes are obtained. Some special conclusion…
It is proved that the asymptotic average eccentricity and the asymptotic average degree of Fibonacci cubes and Lucas cubes are $(5+\sqrt 5)/10$ and $(5-\sqrt 5)/5$, respectively. A new labeling of the leaves of Fibonacci trees is introduced and proved that the eccentricity of a vertex of a given Fibonacci cube is equal to the depth of the associated leaf in the corresponding Fibonacci tree. Hypercube density is also introduced and studied. The hypercube density of both Fibonacci cubes and Lucas cubes is shown to be $(1-1/\sqrt 5)/\log_2φ$, where $φ$ is the golden ratio, and the Cartesian produ…
The Mostar index of a graph was defined by Došlić, Martinjak, Škrekovski, Tipurić Spužević and Zubac in the context of the study of the properties of chemical graphs. It measures how far a given graph is from being distance-balanced. In this paper, we determine the Mostar index of two well-known families of graphs: Fibonacci cubes and Lucas cubes.
The Fibonacci cube $Γ_n$ is the subgraph of the hypercube induced by the binary strings that contain no two consecutive 1's. The Lucas cube $Λ_n$ is obtained from $Γ_n$ by removing vertices that start and end with 1. We characterize maximal induced hypercubes in $Γ_n$ and $Λ_n$ and deduce for any $p\leq n$ the number of maximal $p$-dimensional hypercubes in these graphs.
In recent years there has been much interest in certain subcubes of hypercubes, namely Fibonacci cubes and Lucas cubes (and their generalized versions). In this article we consider online routing of linear permutations on these cubes. The model of routing we use regards edges as bi-directional, and we do not allow queues of length greater than one. Messages start out at different vertices, and in movements synchronized with a clock, move to an adjacent vertex or remain where they are, so that at the next stage there is still exactly one message per vertex. This is the routing model we defined …
The Fibonacci cube $Γ_n$ is obtained from the $n$-cube $Q_n$ by removing all the vertices that contain two consecutive 1s. If, in addition, the vertices that start and end with 1 are removed, the Lucas cube $Λ_n$ is obtained. The number of vertex and edge orbits, the sets of the sizes of the orbits, and the number of orbits of each size, are determined for the Fibonacci cubes and the Lucas cubes under the action of the automorphism group. In particular, the set of the sizes of the vertex orbits of $Λ_n$ is $\{k \ge 1;\ k \divides n\} \cup\, \{k \ge 18;\ k \divides 2n\}$, the number of the vert…
The Fibonacci cube of dimension n, denoted as $Γ\_n$, is the subgraph of the hypercube induced by vertices with no consecutive 1's. The irregularity of a graph G is the sum of |d(x)-d(y)| over all edges {x,y} of G. In two recent paper based on the recursive structure of $Γ\_n$ it is proved that the irregularity of $Γ\_n$ and $Λ\_n$ are two times the number of edges of $Γ\_{n-1}$ and $2n$ times the number of vertices of $Γ\_{n-4}$, respectively. Using an interpretation of the irregularity in terms of couples of incident edges of a special kind (Figure 2) we give a bijective proof of both result…
The paper deals with some generalizations of Fibonacci and Lucas sequences, arising from powers of paths and cycles, respectively. In the first part of the work we provide a formula for the number of edges of the Hasse diagram of the independent sets of the h-th power of a path ordered by inclusion. For h=1 such a diagram is called a Fibonacci cube, and for h>1 we obtain a generalization of the Fibonacci cube. Consequently, we derive a generalized notion of Fibonacci sequence, called h-Fibonacci sequence. Then, we show that the number of edges of a generalized Fibonacci cube is obtained by con…
Let X $\subseteq$ {0, 1} n. Then the daisy cube Q n (X) is introduced as the sub-graph of Q n induced by the intersection of the intervals I(x, 0 n) over all x $\in$ X. Daisy cubes are partial cubes that include Fibonacci cubes, Lucas cubes, and bipartite wheels. If u is a vertex of a graph G, then the distance cube polynomial D G,u (x, y) is introduced as the bivariate polynomial that counts the number of induced subgraphs isomorphic to Q k at a given distance from the vertex u. It is proved that if G is a daisy cube, then D G,0 n (x, y) = C G (x + y -- 1), where C G (x) is the previously inv…
The {\em Fibonacci cube} of dimension $n$, denoted as $Γ\_n$, is the subgraph of the $n$-cube $Q\_n$ induced by vertices with no consecutive 1's. In an article of 2016 Ashrafi and his co-authors proved the non-existence of perfect codes in $Γ\_n$ for $n\geq 4$. As an open problem the authors suggest to consider the existence of perfect codes in generalization of Fibonacci cubes. The most direct generalization is the family $Γ\_n(1^s)$ of subgraphs induced by strings without $1^s$ as a substring where $s\geq 2$ is a given integer. We prove the existence of a perfect code in $Γ\_n(1^s)$ for $n=2…
A vertex 2-coloring of a graph is said to be perfect with parameters $(a_{ij})_{i,j=1}^k$ if for every $i,j\in\{1,...,k\}$ every vertex of color $i$ is adjacent with exactly $a_{ij}$ vertices of color $j$. We consider the perfect 2-colorings of the distance-2 graph of the 24-cube $\{0,1\}^{24}$ with parameters $((20+c,256-c)(c,276-c))$ (i.e., with eigenvalue 20). We prove that such colorings exist for all $c$ from 1 to 128 except 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 10, 13 and do not exist for $c=1, 2, 4, 5, 7$. Keywords: perfect coloring, equitable partition, hypercube, halved n-cube
We describe odd-length-cube tilings of the n-dimensional q-ary torus what includes q-periodic integer lattice tilings of R^n. In the language of coding theory these tilings correspond to perfect codes with respect to the maximum metric. A complete characterization of the two-dimensional tillings is presented and in the linear case, a description of general matrices, isometry and isomorphism classes is provided. Several methods to construct perfect codes from codes of smaller dimension or via sections are derived. We introduce a special type of matrices (perfect matrices) which are in correspon…
A coloring of the Boolean $n$-cube is called perfect if, for every vertex $x$, the collection of the colors of the neighbors of $x$ depends only on the color of $x$. A Boolean function is called correlation-immune of degree $n-m$ if it takes the value 1 the same number of times for each $m$-face of the Boolean $n$-cube. In the present paper it is proven that each Boolean function $χ^S$ ($S\subset E^n$) satisfies the inequality $${\rm nei}(S)+ 2({\rm cor}(S)+1)(1-ρ(S))\leq n,$$ where ${\rm cor}(S)$ is the maximum degree of the correlation immunity of $χ^S$, ${\rm nei} (S)= \frac{1}{|S|}\sum\lim…
A coloring of the $q$-ary $n$-dimensional cube (hypercube) is called perfect if, for every $n$-tuple $x$, the collection of the colors of the neighbors of $x$ depends only on the color of $x$. A Boolean-valued function is called correlation-immune of degree $n-m$ if it takes the value 1 the same number of times for each $m$-dimensional face of the hypercube. Let $f=χ^S$ be a characteristic function of some subset $S$ of hypercube. In the present paper it is proven the inequality $ρ(S)q({\rm cor}(f)+1)\leq α(S)$, where ${\rm cor}(f)$ is the maximum degree of the correlation immunity of $f$, $α(…
Suppose $C$ is a subset of non-zero vectors from the vector space $\mathbb{Z}_2^d$. The cubelike graph $X(C)$ has $\mathbb{Z}_2^d$ as its vertex set, and two elements of $\mathbb{Z}_2^d$ are adjacent if their difference is in $C$. If $M$ is the $d\times |C|$ matrix with the elements of $C$ as its columns, we call the row space of $M$ the code of $X$. We use this code to study perfect state transfer on cubelike graphs. Bernasconi et al have shown that perfect state transfer occurs on $X(C)$ at time $π/2$ if and only if the sum of the elements of $C$ is not zero. Here we consider what happens wh…
We construct perfect $2$-colorings of the $12$-hypercube that attain our recent bound on the dimension of arbitrary correlation immune functions. We prove that such colorings with parameters $(x,12-x,4+x,8-x$) exist if $x=0$, $2$, $3$ and do not exist if $x=1$. This is a translation into English of the original paper by D. G. Fon-Der-Flaass, "Perfect colorings of the $12$-cube that attain the bound on correlation immunity", published in Russian in Siberian Electronic Mathematical Reports, vol. 4 (2007) 292-295.
A perfect matching reciprocity method for embedding multiple hypercubes in an augmented cube: Applications to Hamiltonian decomposition and fault-tolerant Hamiltonicity
Let $p$ be an odd prime. It is well known that $F_{p-(\frac p5)}\equiv 0\pmod{p}$, where $\{F_n\}_{n\ge0}$ is the Fibonacci sequence and $(-)$ is the Jacobi symbol. In this paper we show that if $p\not=5$ then we may determine $F_{p-(\frac p5)}$ mod $p^3$ in the following way: $$\sum_{k=0}^{(p-1)/2}\frac{\binom{2k}k}{(-16)^k}\equiv\left(\frac{p}5\right)\left(1+\frac{F_{p-(\frac {p}5)}}2\right)\pmod{p^3}.$$ We also use Lucas quotients to determine $\sum_{k=0}^{(p-1)/2}\binom{2k}k/m^k$ modulo $p^2$ for any integer $m\not\equiv0\pmod{p}$; in particular, we obtain $$\sum_{k=0}^{(p-1)/2}\frac{\bino…
A tiling of the $n$-dimensional Hamming cube gives rise to a perfect code (according to a given metric) if the basic tile is a metric ball. We are concerned with metrics on the $n$-dimensional Hamming cube which are determined by a weight which respects support of vectors (TS-metrics). We consider the known tilings of the Hamming cube and first determine which of them give rise to a perfect code. In the sequence, for those tilings that satisfy this condition, we determine all the TS-metrics that turns it into a perfect code. We also propose the construction of new perfect codes obtained by the…
Let $S$ be a set of arbitrary objects, and let $S^d=\{v_1...v_d\colon v_i\in S\}$. A polybox code is a set $V\subset S^d$ with the property that for every two words $v,w\in V$ there is $i\in [d]$ with $v_i'=w_i$, where a permutation $s\mapsto s'$ of $S$ is such that $s''=(s')'=s$ and $s'\neq s$. If $|V|=2^d$, then $V$ is called a cube tiling code. Cube tiling codes determine $2$-periodic cube tilings of $\mathbb{R}^d$ or, equivalently, tilings of the flat torus $\mathbb{T}^d=\{(x_1,\ldots ,x_d)({\rm mod} 2):(x_1,\ldots ,x_d)\in \mathbb{R}^d\}$ by translates of the unit cube as well as $r$-perf…
We prove that for $d>1$ the best information ratio of the perfect secret sharing scheme based on the edge set of the $d$-dimensional cube is exactly $d/2$. Using the technique developed, we also prove that the information ratio of the infinite $d$-dimensional lattice is $d$.
Let $H$ and $K$ be subsets of the vertex set $V(Q_d)$ of the $d$-cube $Q_d$ (we call $H$ and $K$ configurations in $Q_d$). We say $K$ is an \emph{exact copy} of $H$ if there is an automorphism of $Q_d$ which sends $H$ to $K$. If $d$ is a positive integer and $H$ is a configuration in $Q_d$, we define $π(H,d)$ to be the limit as $n$ goes to infinity of the maximum fraction, over all subsets $S$ of $V(Q_n)$, of sub-$d$-cubes of $Q_n$ whose intersection with $S$ is an exact copy of $H$. We determine $π(C_8,4)$ and $π(P_4,3)$ where $C_8$ is a "perfect" 8-cycle in $Q_4$ and $P_4$ is a "perfect" pat…
Perfect codes in the $n$-dimensio\-nal grid $Λ_n$ of the lattice $\mathbb{Z}^n$ ($0<n\in\mathbb{Z}$) and its quotient toroidal grids were obtained via the truncated distance in $\mathbb{Z}^n$ given between $u=(u_1,\cdots,u_n)$ and $v=(v_1, \ldots,v_n)$ as the graph distance $h(u,v)$ in $Λ_n$, if $|u_i-v_i|\le 1$, for all $i\in\{1, \ldots,n\}$, and as $n+1$, otherwise. Such codes are extended to multilattice graphs $Γ_n$ obtained by glueing ternary $n$-cubes along their codimension 1 ternary subcubes in such a way that each binary $n$-subcube is contained in a unique maximal lattice of $Γ_n$. T…
A dominating set $S$ in a graph $G$ is said to be perfect if every vertex of $G$ not in $S$ is adjacent to just one vertex of $S$. Given a vertex subset $S'$ of a side $P_m$ of an $m\times n$ grid graph $G$, the perfect dominating sets $S$ in $G$ with $S'=S\cap V(P_m)$ can be determined via an exhaustive algorithm $Θ$ of running time $O(2^{m+n})$. Extending $Θ$ to infinite grid graphs of width $m-1$, periodicity makes the binary decision tree of $Θ$ prunable into a finite threaded tree, a closed walk of which yields all such sets $S$. The graphs induced by the complements of such sets $S$ can …
In this work, we consider tilings of the Hamming cube and look for metrics which turn the tilings into a perfect code. We consider the family of metrics which are determined by a weight and are compatible with the support of vectors (TS-metrics). We determine which of the tilings with small tiles or high rank can be a perfect code for some TS-metric and we characterize all such metrics. Finally, we show some procedures to obtain new perfect codes (relatively to TS-metrics) out of existing ones.
The Golomb-Welch conjecture (1968) states that there are no $e$-perfect Lee codes in $\mathbb{Z}^n$ for $n\geq 3$ and $e\geq 2$. This conjecture remains open even for linear codes. A recent result of Zhang and Ge establishes the non-existence of linear $e$-perfect Lee codes in $\mathbb{Z}^n$ for infinitely many dimensions $n$, for $e=3$ and $4$. In this paper we extend this result in two ways. First, using the non-existence criterion of Zhang and Ge together with a generalized version of Lucas' theorem we extend the above result for almost all $e$ (i.e. a subset of positive integers with densi…
With a computer-aided approach based on the connection with equitable partitions, we establish the uniqueness of the orthogonal array OA$(1536,13,2,7)$, constructed in [D.G.Fon-Der-Flaass. Perfect $2$-Colorings of a Hypercube, Sib. Math. J. 48 (2007), 740-745] as an equitable partition of the $13$-cube with quotient matrix $[[0,13],[3,10]]$. By shortening the OA$(1536,13,2,7)$, we obtain $3$ inequivalent orthogonal arrays OA$(768,12,2,6)$, which is a complete classification for these parameters too. After our computing, the first parameters of unclassified binary orthogonal arrays OA$(N,n,2,t)…
We show that any binary $(n=2^m-3, 2^{n-m}, 3)$ code $C_1$ is a part of an equitable partition (perfect coloring) $\{C_1,C_2,C_3,C_4\}$ of the $n$-cube with the parameters $((0,1,n-1,0)(1,0,n-1,0)(1,1,n-4,2)(0,0,n-1,1))$. Now the possibility to lengthen the code $C_1$ to a 1-perfect code of length $n+2$ is equivalent to the possibility to split the part $C_4$ into two distance-3 codes or, equivalently, to the biparticity of the graph of distances 1 and 2 of $C_4$. In any case, $C_1$ is uniquely embeddable in a twofold 1-perfect code of length $n+2$ with some structural restrictions, where by a…
We study properties of binary codes with parameters close to the parameters of 1-perfect codes. An arbitrary binary $(n=2^m-3, 2^{n-m-1}, 4)$ code $C$, i.e., a code with parameters of a triply-shortened extended Hamming code, is a cell of an equitable partition of the $n$-cube into six cells. An arbitrary binary $(n=2^m-4, 2^{n-m}, 3)$ code $D$, i.e., a code with parameters of a triply-shortened Hamming code, is a cell of an equitable family (but not a partition) from six cells. As a corollary, the codes $C$ and $D$ are completely semiregular; i.e., the weight distribution of such a code depen…
