In this work, we construct various interesting localized wave structures of the Benjamin-Ono equation describing the dynamics of deep water waves. Particularly, we extract the rogue waves and generalized breather solutions with the aid of bilinear form and by applying two appropriate test functions. Our analysis reveals the control mechanism of the rogue waves with arbitrary parameters to obtain both bright and dark type first and second-order rogue waves. Additionally, a generalization of the homoclinic breather method, also known as the three-wave method, is used for extracting the generalized breathers along with bright, dark, anti-dark, rational solitons. Interestingly, we have observed the manipulation of breathers along with soliton interaction, bending, fission, and fusion. Our results are discussed categorically with the aid of clear graphical demonstrations.
We consider the zero-dispersion limit for the Benjamin-Ono equation on the torus for bell shaped initial data. Using the approximation by truncated Fourier series, we transform the eigenvalue equation for the Lax operator into a problem in the complex plane. Then, we use the steepest descent method to get asymptotic expansions of the Lax eigenvalues. As a consequence, we determine the weak limit of solutions as the dispersion parameter goes to zero, as long as the initial data is an even bell shaped potential.
The Korteweg-de Vries and Benjamin-Ono nonlinear wave equations can describe solitary waves, all of which propagate in the same direction and which emerge from collisions with their shapes unchanged. There are technical challenges to giving a description of the thermal equilibrium of a dilute gas of such solitons. These challenges can be overcome by considering a stochastic source of new solitons located at $x=0$. The total intensity and the momentum distributions of the solitons emitted by such sources determine the equilibrium distribution of soliton momenta for $x>0$.
We compute the scattering data of the Benjamin-Ono equation for arbitrary rational initial conditions with simple poles. Specifically, we obtain explicit formulas for the Jost solutions and eigenfunctions of the associated spectral problem, yielding an Evans function for the eigenvalues and formulas for the phase constants and reflection coefficient.
A two-layer fluid system separated by a pycnocline in the form of an internal wave is considered. The lower layer is infinitely deep, with a higher density than the upper layer which is bounded above by a flat surface. The fluids are incompressible and inviscid. A Hamiltonian formulation for the fluid dynamics is presented and it is shown that an appropriate scaling leads to the integrable Benjamin-Ono equation.
Using exact formulae for the scattering data of the Benjamin-Ono equation valid for general rational potentials recently obtained by Miller and Wetzel (2015), we rigorously analyze the scattering data in the small-dispersion limit. In particular, we deduce precise asymptotic formulae for the reflection coefficient, the location of the eigenvalues and their density, and the asymptotic dependence of the phase constant (associated with each eigenvalue) on the eigenvalue itself. Our results give direct confirmation of conjectures in the literature that have been partly justified by means of invers…
We present new soliton equations related to the $A$-type spin Calogero-Moser (CM) systems introduced by Gibbons and Hermsen. These equations are spin generalizations of the Benjamin-Ono (BO) equation and the recently introduced non-chiral intermediate long-wave (ncILW) equation. We obtain multi-soliton solutions of these spin generalizations of the BO equation and the ncILW equation via a spin-pole ansatz where the spin-pole dynamics is governed by the spin CM system in the rational and hyperbolic cases, respectively. We also propose physics applications of the new equations, and we introduce …

In this paper we describe the spectrum of the quantum periodic Benjamin-Ono equation in terms of the multi-phase solutions of the underlying classical system (the periodic multi-solitons). To do so, we show that the semi-classical quantization of this system given by Abanov-Wiegmann is exact and equivalent to the geometric quantization by Nazarov-Sklyanin. First, for the Liouville integrable subsystems defined from the multi-phase solutions, we use a result of Gérard-Kappeler to prove that if one neglects the infinitely-many transverse directions in phase space, the regular Bohr-Sommerfeld con…
We derive exact and asymptotic results for random partitions from general results in the semi-classical analysis of coherent states applied to the classical periodic Benjamin-Ono equation at critical regularity $s= -1/2$. We find classical $dF_{\star |v} (c| \overline{\varepsilon})$ and quantum $d\hat{F}^{η_{NS}}( c | \hbar, \overline{\varepsilon})|_Ψ$ conserved densities for this system with dispersion coefficient $\overline{\varepsilon}$ extending Nazarov-Sklyanin (2013). For quantum stationary states, this conserved density is $dF_λ(c | \varepsilon_2, \varepsilon_1)$ the Rayleigh measure of…
