We report spatial distributions of the Fe-K$α$ line at 6.4 keV and the CO($J$ = 2--1) line at 230.538 GHz in NGC 2110, which are respectively revealed by $Chandra$ and ALMA at $\approx$ 0.5 arcsec. A $Chandra$ 6.2--6.5 keV-to-3.0--6.0 keV image suggests that the Fe-K$α$ emission extends preferentially in a northwest-to-southeast direction out to $\sim$ 3 arcsec, or 500 pc, on each side. Spatially-resolved spectral analyses support this by finding significant Fe-K$α$ emission lines only in northwest and southeast regions. Moreover, their equivalent widths are found $\sim$ 1.5 keV, indicative for the fluorescence by nuclear X-ray irradiation as the physical origin. By contrast, CO($J$ = 2--1) emission is weak therein. For quantitative discussion, we derive ionization parameters by following an X-ray dominated region (XDR) model. We then find them high enough to interpret the weakness as the result of X-ray dissociation of CO and/or H$_2$. Another possibility also remains that CO molecules follow a super-thermal distribution, resulting in brighter emission in higher-$J$ lines. Further follow-up observations are encouraged to draw a conclusion on what predominantly changes the inter-stellar matter properties, and whether the X-ray irradiation eventually affects the surrounding star formation as an AGN feedback.
We report a study of X-ray-irradiated gas in the central ~100 pc of the Circinus galaxy, hosting a Compton-thick active galactic nucleus (AGN), at 10-pc resolution using Chandra and ALMA. Based on ~200 ksec Chandra/ACIS-S data, we created an image of the Fe Kalpha line at 6.4 keV, tracing X-ray-irradiated dense gas. The ALMA data in Bands 6 (~270 GHz) and 7 (~350 GHz) cover five molecular lines: CO(J=3--2), HCN(J=3--2), HCN(J=4--3), HCO^+(J=3--2), and HCO^+(J=4--3). The detailed spatial distribution of dense molecular gas was revealed, and compared to the iron line image. The molecular gas emi…
We present spectroscopic redshifts of S(870)>2mJy submillimetre galaxies (SMGs) which have been identified from the ALMA follow-up observations of 870um detected sources in the Extended Chandra Deep Field South (the ALMA-LESS survey). We derive spectroscopic redshifts for 52 SMGs, with a median of z=2.4+/-0.1. However, the distribution features a high redshift tail, with ~25% of the SMGs at z>3. Spectral diagnostics suggest that the SMGs are young starbursts, and the velocity offsets between the nebular emission and UV ISM absorption lines suggest that many are driving winds, with velocity off…
Nuclear activity and star formation play relevant roles in the early stages of galaxy formation. We aim at identifying them in high redshift galaxies by exploiting high-resolution and sensitivity X-ray and mm data to confirm their presence and relative role in contributing to the galaxy SEDs and energy budget. We present the data, model and analysis in the X-ray and mm bands for two strongly lensed galaxies, SDP.9 and SDP.11, selected in the Herschel-ATLAS catalogues as having an excess emission in the mid-IR regime at z>1.5, suggesting nuclear activity in the early stages of galaxy formation.…
We report the multi-wavelength properties of millimeter galaxies hosting X-ray detected active galactic nuclei (AGNs) from the ALMA Lensing Cluster Survey (ALCS). ALCS is an extensive survey of well-studied lensing clusters with ALMA, covering an area of 133 arcmin$^2$ over 33 clusters with a 1.2 mm flux-density limit of ${\sim}$60 $\mathrm{μJy}$ ($1σ$). Utilizing the archival data of Chandra, we identify three AGNs at $z=$1.06, 2.09, and 2.84 among the 180 millimeter sources securely detected in the ALCS (of which 155 are inside the coverage of Chandra). The X-ray spectral analysis shows that…
We present a study of the radio properties of 870$μ$m-selected submillimetre galaxies (SMGs), observed at high resolution with ALMA in the Extended Chandra Deep Field South. From our initial sample of 76 ALMA SMGs, we detect 52 SMGs at $>3σ$ significance in VLA 1400MHz imaging, of which 35 are also detected at $>3σ$ in new 610MHz GMRT imaging. Within this sample of radio-detected SMGs, we measure a median radio spectral index $α_{610}^{1400} = -0.79 \pm 0.06$, (with inter-quartile range $α=[-1.16,-0.56]$) and investigate the far-infrared/radio correlation via the parameter $q_{\rm IR}$, the lo…
We analyse HST WFC3/$H_{160}$-band observations of a sample of 48 ALMA-detected submillimeter galaxies (SMGs) in the Extended Chandra Deep Field South field, to study their stellar morphologies and sizes. We detect 79$\pm$17% of the SMGs in the $H_{160}$-band imaging with a median sensitivity of 27.8 mag, and most (80%) of the non-detections are SMGs with 870$μ$m fluxes of $S_{870} < $3 mJy. With a surface brightness limit of $μ_H \sim $26 mag arcsec$^{-2}$, we find that 82$\pm$9% of the $H_{160}$-band detected SMGs at $z =$ 1-3 appear to have disturbed morphologies, meaning they are visually …
An ALMA survey of submillimetre galaxies in the Extended Chandra Deep Field South: an unbiased study of SMG environments measured with narrowband imaging
High angular resolution observations of Class 0 protostars have produced detailed maps of the polarized dust emission in the envelopes of these young embedded objects. Interestingly, the improved sensitivity brought by ALMA has revealed wide dynamic ranges of polarization fractions, with specific locations harboring surprisingly large amounts of polarized dust emission. Our aim is to characterize the grain alignment conditions and dust properties responsible for the observed polarized dust emission in the inner envelopes (~1000 au) of Class 0 protostars. We analyzed the polarized dust emission…
[abridged] The ALESS survey has followed-up a sample of 122 sub-millimeter sources in the Extended Chandra Deep Field South at 870um with ALMA, allowing to pinpoint the positions of sub-millimeter galaxies (SMGs) to 0.3'' and to find their precise counterparts at different wavelengths. This enabled the first compilation of the multi-wavelength spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of a statistically reliable survey of SMGs. In this paper, we present a new calibration of the MAGPHYS modelling code that is optimized to fit these UV-to-radio SEDs of z>1 star-forming galaxies using an energy balanc…
We analyze the >4-sigma sources in the most sensitive 100 arcmin^2 area (rms <0.56 mJy) of a SCUBA-2 850 micron survey of the GOODS-S and present the 75 band 7 ALMA sources (>4.5-sigma) obtained from high-resolution interferometric follow-up observations. The SCUBA-2---and hence ALMA---samples should be complete to 2.25 mJy. Of the 53 SCUBA-2 sources in this complete sample, only five have no ALMA detections, while 13% (68% confidence range 7-19%) have multiple ALMA counterparts. Color-based high-redshift dusty galaxy selection techniques find at most 55% of the total ALMA sample. In addition …
To investigate the role of active galactic nucleus (AGN) X-ray irradiation on the interstellar medium (ISM), we systematically analyzed Chandra and ALMA CO($J$=2-1) data for 26 ultra-hard X-ray ($>$ 10 keV) selected AGNs at redshifts below 0.05. While Chandra unveils the distribution of X-ray-irradiated gas via Fe-K$α$ emission, the CO($J$=2-1) observations reveal that of cold molecular gas. At high resolutions $\lesssim$ 1 arcsec, we derive Fe-K$α$ and CO($J$=2-1) maps for the nuclear 2 arcsec region, and for the external annular region of 2 arcsec-4 arcsec, where 2 arcsec is $\sim$ 100-600 p…
Many efforts have been made to model the mass distribution and dynamical evolution of the circumnuclear gas in active galactic nuclei (AGNs). However, chemical evolution is not included in detail in three-dimensional (3-D) hydrodynamic simulations. The X-ray radiation from the AGN can drive the gas chemistry and affect the thermodynamics, as well as the excitation of the interstellar medium (ISM). Therefore, we estimate the effects (on chemical abundances and excitation) of X-ray irradiation by the AGN, for atomic and molecular gas in a 3-D hydrodynamic model of an AGN torus. We obtain the abu…
We report a clumpy elongated feature found with deep Chandra ACIS high-resolution imaging of the Fe Kα line emission in the nuclear region of the Compton Thick Active Galactic Nucleus (CT AGN) galaxy NGC 5643. This feature extends for ~65 pc N-S. No corresponding feature is seen in the 3.0-6.0 keV continuum. The Fe Kα feature is spatially consistent with the N-S elongation found in the CO(2-1) high resolution imaging with ALMA (Alonso-Herrero et al 2018), but slightly more extended than the rotating molecular disk of r=26 pc indicated by the kinematics of the CO(2-1) line. The Chandra detectio…
We present the detection of $^{12}$CO(2-1) in the $z = 4.44$ submillimetre galaxy ALESS65.1 using the Australia Telescope Compact Array. A previous ALMA study of submillimetre galaxies in the Extended Chandra Deep Field South determined the redshift of this optically and near-infrared undetected source through the measurement of [CII] 157.74 $μ$m emission. Using the luminosity of the $^{12}$CO(2-1) emission we estimate the gas mass to be $M_{\rm gas} \sim 1.7 \times 10^{10}$ ${\rm M}_\odot$. The gas depletion timescale of ALESS65.1 is $\sim$ 25 Myr, similar to other high redshift submillimetre…
We present the first high-resolution map of the cold molecular gas distribution, as traced by CO(2-1) emission with ALMA, in a prominent ram pressure stripped tail. The Norma cluster galaxy ESO 137-001 is undergoing a strong interaction with the surrounding intra-cluster medium and is one of the nearest jellyfish galaxies with a long multi-phase tail. We have mapped the full extent of the tail at 1" (350 pc) angular resolution and found a rich distribution of mostly compact CO regions extending to nearly 60 kpc in length and 25 kpc in width. In total about 10^9 M_sun of molecular gas was detec…
We discuss the nature and physical properties of gas-mass selected galaxies in the ALMA spectroscopic survey (ASPECS) of the Hubble Ultra Deep Field (HUDF). We capitalize on the deep optical integral-field spectroscopy from the MUSE HUDF Survey and multi-wavelength data to uniquely associate all 16 line-emitters, detected in the ALMA data without preselection, with rotational transitions of carbon monoxide (CO). We identify ten as CO(2-1) at $1 < z < 2$, five as CO(3-2) at $2 < z < 3$ and one as CO(4-3) at $z = 3.6$. Using the MUSE data as a prior, we identify two additional CO(2-1)-emitters, …
We present measurements of the thermal Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect (SZE) toward SPT-CL J2334-4243 (the Phoenix galaxy cluster) at z=0.597 by the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Band 3. The SZE is imaged at 5" resolution (corresponding to the physical scale of 23kpc/h) within 200kpc/h from the central galaxy with the peak signal-to-noise ratio exceeding 11. Combined with the Chandra X-ray image, the ALMA SZE data further allow for non-parametric deprojection of electron temperature, density, and entropy. Our method can minimize contamination by the central AGN and the X-ray…
Molecular Abundance of the Circumnuclear Region Surrounding an Active Galactic Nucleus in NGC 1068 based on Imaging Line Survey in the 3-mm Band with ALMA
We present new, deep (245 ks) Chandra observations of the galaxy cluster Abell 1664 ($z = 0.1283$). These images reveal rich structure, including elongation and accompanying compressions of the X-ray isophotes in the NE-SW direction, suggesting that the hot gas is sloshing in the gravitational potential. This sloshing has resulted in cold fronts, at distances of 55, 115 and 320 kpc from the cluster center. Our results indicate that the core of A1664 is highly disturbed, as the global metallicity and cooling time flatten at small radii, implying mixing on large scales. The central AGN appears t…
We investigate the X-ray active galactic nucleus (AGN) properties of millimeter galaxies in the Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey South (GOODS-S) field detected with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), by utilizing the Chandra 7-Ms data, the deepest X-ray survey to date. Our millimeter galaxy sample comes from the ASAGAO survey covering 26 arcmin$^2$ (12 sources at a 1.2-mm flux-density limit of $\approx$0.6 mJy), supplemented by the deeper but narrower 1.3-mm survey of a part of the ASAGAO field by Dunlop et al.\ (2017). Fourteen out of the total 25 millimeter galax…
Galaxy clusters in the local universe descend from high-redshift overdense regions known as protoclusters. The large gas reservoirs and high rate of galaxy interaction in protoclusters are expected to trigger star-formation activity and luminous SMBH accretion in the host galaxies. We investigated the AGN content of a gas-rich and starbursting protocluster at $z=4$, known as the Distant Red Core (DRC). We observed with Chandra (139 ks) the 13 identified members of the structure, and searched for luminous and possibly obscured AGN among them. We also tested whether a hidden AGN can power the $L…

We present new Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) observations of the tadpole, a small globule in the Carina Nebula that hosts the HH 900 jet+outflow system. Our data include $^{12}$CO, $^{13}$CO, C$^{18}$O J=2-1, $^{13}$CO, C$^{18}$O J=3-2, and serendipitous detections of DCN J=3-2 and CS J=7-6. With angular resolution comparable to the Hubble Space Telescope (HST), our data reveal for the first time the bipolar molecular outflow in CO, seen only inside the globule, that is launched from the previously unseen jet-driving protostar (the HH 900 YSO). The biconical morphology jo…
W43-MM1 is a young region, very rich in terms of high-mass star formation. We aim to systematically identify the massive cores which contain a hot core and compare their molecular composition. We used ALMA high-spatial resolution (2500 au) data of W43-MM1 to identify line-rich protostellar cores and make a comparative study of their temperature and molecular composition. The identification of hot cores is based on both the spatial distribution of the complex organic molecules and the contribution of molecular lines relative to the continuum intensity. We rely on the analysis of CH3CN and CH3CC…
The Chandra X-ray observatory has discovered several dozen anomalously X-ray-bright jets associated with powerful quasars. A popular explanation for the X-ray flux from the knots in these jets is that relativistic synchrotron-emitting electrons inverse-Compton scatter Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) photons to X-ray energies (the IC/CMB model). This model predicts a high gamma-ray flux which should be detectable by the Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT) for many sources. GeV-band upper limits from Fermi/LAT for the well-known anomalous X-ray jet in PKS 0637-752 were previously shown in Meyer e…
We present a reanalysis of the cumulative ACIS S Chandra data set pointed at the double AGNs of the NGC 6240 merging galaxy, focusing on the hard energy bands containing the hard spectral continuum (5.5-5.9 keV), the redshifted Fe I K alpha line (6.0-6.4 keV), and the redshifted Fe XXV line (6.4-6.7 keV). We have used to the full the Chandra telescope angular resolution, and we have modeled the Chandra PSF by comparing pre-flight calibration model to the data for the two bright AGNs. With two complementary approaches: (1) studying the residuals after PSF subtraction, and (2) producing reconstr…
A recent ALMA study of the Seyfert 2 Active Galactic Nucleus (AGN) NGC 2110 by Rosario et al. (2019) has reported a remarkable lack of CO 2-1 emission from the circumnuclear region, where optical lines and H2 emission are observed, leading to the suggestion of excitation of the molecular clouds by the AGN. Since interaction with X-ray photons could be the cause of this excitation, we have searched the archival Chandra data for corroborating evidence. We report an extra-nuclear ~1'' (~170 pc) feature found in the soft (<1.0 keV) Chandra data of the Seyfert 2 Active Galactic Nucleus (AGN) NGC 21…
We present the first results from our on-going Australia Telescope Compact Array survey of CO(1-0) in ALMA-identified submillimetre galaxies in the Extended Chandra Deep Field South. Strong detections of CO(1-0) emission from two submillimetre galaxies, ALESS 122.1 (z = 2.0232) and ALESS 67.1 (z = 2.1230), were obtained. We estimate gas masses of M_gas ~ 1.3 \times 10^{11} M_odot and M_gas ~ 1.0 \times 10^{11} M_\odot for ALESS 122.1 and ALESS 67.1, respectively, adopting alpha_CO = 1.0. Dynamical mass estimates from the kinematics of the CO(1-0) line yields M_dyn (sin i)^2 = 2.1 +- 1.1 \times…
Recent observational progress has challenged the dust grain-alignment theories used to explain the polarized dust emission routinely observed in star-forming cores. In an effort to improve our understanding of the dust grain alignment mechanism(s), we have gathered a dozen ALMA maps of (sub)millimeter-wavelength polarized dust emission from Class 0 protostars, and carried out a comprehensive statistical analysis of dust polarization quantities. We analyze the statistical properties of the polarization fraction P_frac and dispersion of polarization position angles S. More specifically, we inves…
We present a coherent multi-band modelling of the CO Spectral Energy Distribution of the local Seyfert Galaxy NGC7130 to assess the impact of the AGN activity on the molecular gas. We take advantage of all the available data from X-ray to the sub-mm, including ALMA data. The high-resolution (~0.2") ALMA CO(6-5) data constrain the spatial extension of the CO emission down to ~70 pc scale. From the analysis of the archival CHANDRA and NuSTAR data, we infer the presence of a buried, Compton-thick AGN of moderate luminosity, L_2-10keV ~ 1.6x10^{43} ergs-1. We explore photodissociation and X-ray-do…
We study the multi-phase medium in the vicinity of the active galactic nucleus Centaurus A (Cen A). Combined high-resolution observations with the ALMA and Chandra observatories indicate that the hot X-ray emitting plasma coexists with the warm and cold media in Cen A. This complex environment is a source of CO lines with great impact for its diagnostics. We present the images from the two above-mentioned instruments covering the nuclear region (diameter of 10'' i.e., ~180 pc), and we study the conditions for plasma thermal equilibrium and possible coexistence of cool clouds embedded within th…

The cyanide radical CN is abundant in protoplanetary disks, with line fluxes often comparable to those of $^{13}$CO. It is known to be sensitive to UV irradiation of the upper disk atmosphere, with models predicting ring-shaped emission. We seek to characterize the CN emission from 94 Class II disks in the Lupus star forming region, compare it to observations in other regions, and interpret our observations with a grid of models. The CN emission morphology is discussed for two primordial disks, Sz 71 and Sz 98, and modeled in more detail. ALMA observed CN N=3-2 in Lupus disks down to sensitivi…
Context. The role of magnetic fields during the formation of high-mass stars is not yet fully understood, and the processes related to the early fragmentation and collapse are largely unexplored today. The high-mass star forming region G9.62+0.19 is a well known source, presenting several cores at different evolutionary stages. Aims. We determine the magnetic field morphology and strength in the high-mass star forming region G9.62+0.19, to investigate its relation to the evolutionary sequence of the cores. Methods. We use Band 7 ALMA observations in full polarisation mode and we analyse the po…
We present 1.3 mm ALMA dust polarization observations at a resolution of $\sim$0.02 pc of three massive molecular clumps, MM1, MM4, and MM9, in the infrared dark cloud G28.34+0.06. With the sensitive and high-resolution continuum data, MM1 is resolved into a cluster of condensations. The magnetic field structure in each clump is revealed by the polarized emission. We found a trend of decreasing polarized emission fraction with increasing Stokes $I$ intensities in MM1 and MM4. Using the angular dispersion function method (a modified Davis-Chandrasekhar-Fermi method), the plane-of-sky magnetic f…

Here, we report ALMA detections of polarized emission from dust, CS($J=5 \rightarrow 4$), and C$^{33}$S($J=5 \rightarrow 4$) toward the high-mass star-forming region NGC6334I(N). A clear ``hourglass'' magnetic field morphology was inferred from the polarized dust emission which is also directly seen from the polarized CS emission across velocity, where the polarization appears to be parallel to the field. By considering previous findings, the field retains a pinched shape which can be traced to clump length-scales from the envelope scales traced by ALMA, suggesting that the field is dynamicall…
We report preliminary results of large-scale distribution toward the Magellanic supernova remnant N132D using Mopra and Chandra archival datasets. We identified a cavity-like CO structure along the X-ray shell toward the southern half of it. The total mass of associating molecular gas is $\sim10^4 M_\odot$, which is smaller than the previous study by an order of magnitude. Further observations using ALMA, ASTE, and Mopra will reveal the detailed spatial structures and its physical conditions.
We present recent {\it Chandra} X-ray observations of the RXJ0821.0+0752 galaxy cluster in addition to ALMA observations of the CO(1-0) and CO(3-2) line emission tracing the molecular gas in its central galaxy. All of the CO line emission, originating from a $10^{10}\,M_{\odot}$ molecular gas reservoir, is located several kpc away from the nucleus of the central galaxy. The cold gas is concentrated into two main clumps surrounded by a diffuse envelope. They form a wide filament coincident with a plume of bright X-ray emission emanating from the cluster core. This plume encompasses a putative X…
SPT-CL J2106-5844 is among the most massive galaxy clusters at z>1 yet discovered. While initially used in cosmological tests to assess the compatibility with $Λ$CDM cosmology of such a massive virialized object at this redshift, more recent studies indicate SPT-CL J2106-5844 is undergoing a major merger, and is not an isolated system with a singular, well-defined halo. We use sensitive, high spatial resolution measurements from ALMA and ACA of the thermal SZ effect to reconstruct the pressure distribution of the intracluster medium in this system. These measurements are coupled with radio obs…
We present deep Chandra observations of PSO J231.6576$-$20.8335, a quasar at redshift z=6.59 with a nearby (${\sim}8$ proper kpc) companion galaxy. ALMA observed both the quasar and companion to be bright in [C II], and the system has significant extended Ly$α$ emission around the quasar, suggesting that a galaxy merger is ongoing. Unlike previous studies of two similar systems, and despite observing the system with Chandra for 140 ks, we do not detect the companion in X-rays. The quasar itself is detected, but only $13.3^{+4.8}_{-3.7}$ net counts are observed. From a basic spectral analysis, …
We present a multi-wavelength study of seven AGN at spectroscopic redshift >2.5 in the 7 Ms Chandra Deep Field South, selected to have good FIR/sub-mm detections. Our aim is to investigate the possibility that the obscuration observed in the X-rays can be produced by the interstellar medium (ISM) of the host galaxy. Based on the 7 Ms Chandra spectra, we measured obscuring column densities N$_{H, X}$ in excess of 7x10$^{22}$ cm$^{-2}$ and intrinsic X-ray luminosities L$_{X}$>10$^{44}$ erg s$^{-1}$ for our targets, as well as equivalent widths for the Fe K$α$ emission line EW>0.5-1 keV. We built…
We present a recent ALMA observation of the CO(1-0) line emission in the central galaxy of the Zw 3146 galaxy cluster ($z=0.2906$). We also present updated X-ray cavity measurements from archival Chandra observations. The $5\times 10^{10}\,M_{\odot}$ supply of molecular gas, which is confined to the central 4 kpc, is marginally resolved into three extensions that are reminiscent of the filaments observed in similar systems. No velocity structure that would be indicative of ordered motion is observed. The three molecular extensions all trail X-ray cavities, and are potentially formed from the c…
We employ MUSE/VLT data to study the ionised and highly ionised gas phases of the feedback in Circinus, the closest Seyfert 2 galaxy to us. The analysis of the nebular emission allowed us to detect a remarkable high-ionisation gas outflow beyond the galaxy plane traced by the coronal lines [Fe VII] $λ$6089 and [Fe X] $λ$6374, extending up to 700 pc and 350 pc NW from the nucleus, respectively. This is the first time that the [Fe X] emission is observed at such distances from the central engine in an AGN. The gas kinematics reveals expanding gas shells with velocities of a few hundred km s$^{-1…
IRS~13E is an enigmatic compact group of massive stars located in projection only 3.6 arcseconds away from Sgr A*. This group has been suggested to be bounded by an intermediate-mass black hole (IMBH). We present a multi-wavelength study of the group and its interplay with the environment. Based on Chandra observations, we find the X-ray spectrum of IRS~13E can be well characterized by an optically thin thermal plasma. The emission peaks between two strongly mass-losing Wolf-Rayet stars of the group. These properties can be reasonably well reproduced by simulated colliding winds of these two s…
Since its launch in 1999, the Chandra X-ray observatory has discovered several dozen X-ray jets associated with powerful quasars. In many cases the X-ray spectrum is hard and appears to come from a second spectral component. The most popular explanation for the kpc-scale X-ray emission in these cases has been inverse-Compton (IC) scattering of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) photons by relativistic electrons in the jet (the IC/CMB model). Requiring the IC/CMB emission to reproduce the observed X-ray flux density inevitably predicts a high level of gamma-ray emission which should be detectabl…
We report the analysis of the deep (270 ks) X-ray Chandra data of one of the most radio-loud, Seyfert 2 galaxies in the nearby Universe (z=0.01135), IC 5063. The alignment of the radio structure with the galactic disk and ionized bi-cone, enables us to study the effects of both radio jet and nuclear irradiation on the interstellar medium (ISM). The nuclear and bi-cone spectra suggest a low photoionization phase mixed with a more ionized or thermal gas component, while the cross-cone spectrum is dominated by shocked and collisionally ionized gas emission. The clumpy morphology of the soft (<3 k…
T Tauri stars produce broad Lyman-alpha emission lines that contribute $\sim$88% of the total UV flux incident on the inner circumstellar disks. Lyman-alpha photons are generated at the accretion shocks and in the protostellar chromospheres and must travel through accretion flows, winds and jets, the protoplanetary disks, and the interstellar medium before reaching the observer. This trajectory produces asymmetric, double-peaked features that carry kinematic and opacity signatures of the disk environments. To understand the link between the evolution of Lyman-alpha emission lines and the disks…
Feedback from outflows driven by active galactic nuclei (AGN) can affect the distribution and properties of the gaseous halos of galaxies. We study the hydrodynamics and non-thermal emission from the forward outflow shock produced by an AGN-driven outflow. We consider a few possible profiles for the halo gas density, self-consistently constrained by the halo mass, redshift and the disk baryonic concentration of the galaxy. We show that the outflow velocity levels off at $\sim 10^3\,\rm km\, s^{-1}$ within the scale of the galaxy disk. Typically, the outflow can reach the virial radius around t…
