We study the localization properties and the Anderson transition in the 3D Lieb lattice $\mathcal{L}_3(1)$ and its extensions $\mathcal{L}_3(n)$ in the presence of disorder. We compute the positions of the flat bands, the disorder-broadened density of states and the energy-disorder phase diagrams for up to 4 different such Lieb lattices. Via finite-size scaling, we obtain the critical properties such as critical disorders and energies as well as the universal localization lengths exponent $ν$. We find that the critical disorder $W_c$ decreases from $\sim 16.5$ for the cubic lattice, to $\sim 8.6$ for $\mathcal{L}_3(1)$, $\sim 5.9$ for $\mathcal{L}_3(2)$ and $\sim 4.8$ for $\mathcal{L}_3(3)$. Nevertheless, the value of the critical exponent $ν$ for all Lieb lattices studied here and across disorder and energy transitions agrees within error bars with the generally accepted universal value $ν=1.590 (1.579,1.602)$.
We study the localization properties of generalized, two- and three-dimensional Lieb lattices, $\mathcal{L}_2(n)$ and $\mathcal{L}_3(n)$, $n= 1, 2, 3$ and $4$, at energies corresponding to flat and dispersive bands using the transfer matrix method (TMM) and finite size scaling (FSS). We find that the scaling properties of the flat bands are different from scaling in dispersive bands for all $\mathcal{L}_d(n)$. For the $d=3$ dimensional case, states are extended for disorders $W$ down to $W=0.01 t$ at the flat bands, indicating that the disorder can lift the degeneracy of the flat bands quickly…
The kicked rotor system is a textbook example of how classical and quantum dynamics can drastically differ. The energy of a classical particle confined to a ring and kicked periodically will increase linearly in time whereas in the quantum version the energy saturates after a finite number of kicks. The quantum system undergoes Anderson localization in the angular-momentum space. Conventional wisdom says that in a many-particle system with short-range interactions the localization will be destroyed due to the coupling of widely separated momentum states. Here we provide evidence that for an in…
We study the localization properties of the two-dimensional Lieb lattice and its extensions in the presence of disorder using transfer matrix method and finite-size scaling. We find that all states in the Lieb lattice and its extensions are localized for $W \geq 1$. Clear differences in the localization properties between disordered flat band and disordered dispersive bands are identified. Our results complement previous experimental studies of clean photonic Lieb lattices and provide information about their stability with respect to disorder.
Study how quantum information propagates through spacetime manifold provides a means of identifying, distinguishing, and classifying novel phases of matter fertilized by many-body effects in strongly interacting systems in and out of equilibrium. Via a fuller characterization of key aspects regarding dynamic behaviors of information, we perform such an analysis on constrained many-body localization -- a newly proposed fully localized state under infinite-interaction limit -- in quasirandom Rydberg blockade spin chain models using thermal out-of-time-order commutators (OTOCs). The OTOC light co…
Uncorrelated disorder in generalized 3D Lieb models gives rise to the existence of bounded mobility edges, destroys the macroscopic degeneracy of the flat bands and breaks their compactly-localized states. We now introduce a mix of order and disorder such that this degeneracy remains and the compactly-localized states are preserved. We obtain the energy-disorder phase diagrams and identify mobility edges. Intriguingly, for large disorder the survival of the compactly-localized states induces the existence of delocalized eigenstates close to the original flat band energies -- yielding seemingly…
In this work we study analytically and numerically the spectrum and localization properties of three quasi-one-dimensional (ribbons) split-ring resonator arrays which possess magnetic flatbands, namely, the stub, Lieb and kagome lattices, and how their spectra is affected by the presence of perturbations that break the delicate geometrical interference needed for a magnetic flatband to exist. We find that the Stub and Lieb ribbons are stable against the three types of perturbations considered here, while the kagome ribbon is, in general, unstable. When losses are incorporated, all flatbands re…
A class of one-dimensional lattice models with incommensurate complex potential $V(θ)=2[λ_r cos(θ)+i λ_i sin(θ)]$ is found to exhibit localization transition at $|λ_r|+|λ_i|=1$. This transition from extended to localized states manifests in the behavior of the complex eigenspectum. In the extended phase, states with real eigenenergies have finite measure and this measure goes to zero in the localized phase. Furthermore, all extended states exhibit real spectrum provided $|λ_r| \ge |λ_i|$. Another novel feature of the system is the fact that the imaginary part of the spectrum is sensitive to th…

Motivated by the problem of Many-Body Localization and the recent numerical results for the level and eigenfunction statistics on the random regular graphs, a generalization of the Rosenzweig-Porter random matrix model is suggested that possesses two localization transitions as the parameter $γ$ of the model varies from 0 to $\infty$. One of them is the Anderson transition from the localized to the extended states that happens at $γ=2$. The other one at $γ=1$ is the transition from the extended non-ergodic (multifractal) states to the extended ergodic states similar to the eigenstates of the G…

Many-body localization is characterized by a slow logarithmic growth of the entanglement entropy after a global quantum quench while the local memory of an initial density imbalance remains at infinite time. We investigate how much the proximity of a many-body localized phase can influence the dynamics in the delocalized ergodic regime where thermalization is expected. Using an exact Krylov space technique, the out-of-equilibrium dynamics of the random-field Heisenberg chain is studied up to $L=28$ sites, starting from an initially unentangled high-energy product state. Within most of the delo…
We study the combined effect of quasiperiodic disorder, driven and interaction in the periodically kicked Aubry-André model. In the non-interacting limit, by analyzing the quasienergy spectrum statistics, we verify the existence of a dynamical localization transition in the high-frequency region, whereas the spectrum statistics becomes intricate in the low-frequency region due to the emergence of the extended/localized-to-multifractal edges in the quasienergy spectrum, which separate the multifractal states from the extended (localized) states. When the interaction is introduced, we find the p…
We investigate the localization behavior of vibrational modes of infinite percolation clusters above the critical concentration in two and three dimensions using the method of level statistics. We find that all eigenstates are localized in d=2, including the low frequency phonon states. In d=3 we obtain evidence for a localization-delocalization transition. But contrary to the common view this transition occurs for frequencies above the phonon fracton crossover giving rise to a new regime of extended fracton states.
In this paper we propose that phonons, free diffusive electrons, and diffusion in two-and three--dimensional disordered lattice problems belong to a different class of localization than bonded electrons. This is manifested by three effects that can be observed numerically. First, there are extended states even at two dimensions, whereas there are no extended states in the usual electronic models. Second, the correlation length does not diverge at the mobility edges in three dimensions, and finally, the participation ratio of the extended states, decays to zero at this edge. This indicates zero…
We discuss vibrational localization problems in glasses and disordered media in this paper. It is claimed that the essence of the localization problem is already observed in disordered lattice models. These kinds of vibrations belong to a different universality class than bonded electrons. Specifically, The eigenvectors are extended even in two dimensions. Moreover, the correlation exponent does not diverge in the transition from localized to delocalized states. Furthermore, the volume of the extended states is scaled according to the distance from the transition as $V\sim |ω-ω_c| L^d$. Intere…
The dynamics of the highly excited states of a system projected into a single Landau level are analyzed. An analysis of level spacing ratios for finite size systems shows a clear crossover from extend (GUE) to localized (Poisson) statistics, indicating a many body localization transition. However, the location of this transition depends very strongly on system size, and appears to scale to infinite disorder in the thermodynamic limit. This result does not depend on the properties of the ground state (such as whether the ground state exhibits topological order), as expected for a transition of …
We show the localization transition and its effect on two dynamical processes for an extended Aubry-André-Harper model with incommensurate on-site and hopping potentials. After specifying an extended Aubry-André-Harper model, we check the localization transition for all the eigenstates and eigenenergy band splitting behavior versus a system parameter. To examine the effect of localization transition on dynamical processes, firstly, the slowly pumping of the edge states are examined. In the dynamical processes, the system acts as conductor for the excitation in the nonlocal region and insulator…
Controllable Rydberg atom arrays have provided new insights into fundamental properties of quantum matter both in and out of equilibrium. In this work, we study the effect of experimentally relevant positional disorder on Rydberg atoms trapped in a 2D square lattice under anti-blockade (facilitation) conditions. We show that the facilitation conditions lead the connectivity graph of a particular subspace of the full Hilbert space to form a 2D Lieb lattice, which features a singular flat band. Remarkably, we find three distinct regimes as the disorder strength is varied: a critical regime, a de…
We study the localization problem of one-dimensional interacting spinless fermions in an incommensurate optical lattice, which changes from an extended phase to a nonergoic many-body localized phase by increasing the strength of the incommensurate potential. We identify that there exists an intermediate regime before the system enters the many-body localized phase, in which both the localized and extended many-body states coexist, thus the system is divided into three different phases, which can be characterized by normalized participation ratios of the many-body eigenstates and distributions …
We study the many-body localization aspects of single-particle mobility edges in fermionic systems. We investigate incommensurate lattices and random disorder Anderson models. Many-body localization and quantum nonergodic properties are studied by comparing entanglement and thermal entropy, and by calculating the scaling of subsystem particle number fluctuations, respectively. We establish a nonergodic extended phase as a generic intermediate phase (between purely ergodic extended and nonergodic localized phases) for the many-body localization transition of non-interacting fermions where the e…
We consider disordered tight-binding models which Green's functions obey the self-consistent cavity equations . Based on these equations and the replica representation, we derive an analytical expression for the fractal dimension D_{1} that distinguishes between the extended ergodic, D_{1}=1, and extended non-ergodic (multifractal), 0<D_{1}<1 states. The latter corresponds to the solution with broken replica symmetry, while the former corresponds to the replica-symmetric solution. We prove the existence of the extended non-ergodic phase in a broad range of disorder strength and energy as well …

A quantum system of particles can exist in a localized phase, exhibiting ergodicity breaking and maintaining forever a local memory of its initial conditions. We generalize this concept to a system of extended objects, such as strings and membranes, arguing that such a system can also exhibit localization in the presence of sufficiently strong disorder (randomness) in the Hamiltonian. We show that localization of large extended objects can be mapped to a lower-dimensional many-body localization problem. For example, motion of a string involves propagation of point-like signals down its length …
We show that the presence of a harmonic trap may in itself lead to many-body localization for cold atoms confined in that trap in a quasi-one-dimensional geometry. Specifically, the coexistence of delocalized phase in the center of the trap with localized region closer to the edges is predicted with the borderline dependent on the curvature of the trap. The phenomenon, similar in its origin to Stark localization, should be directly observed with cold atomic species. We discuss both the spinless and the spinful fermions, for the latter we address Stark localization at the same time as it has no…
We study Hilbert space fragmentation in the extended Fermi-Hubbard model with nearest and next-nearest-neighbor interactions. Using a generalized spin/mover picture and saddle point methods, we derive lower bounds for the scaling of the number of frozen states and for the size of the largest block preserved under the dynamics. We find fragmentation for strong nearest- and next-nearest-neighbor repulsions as well as for the combined case. Our results suggest that the involvement of next-nearest-neighbor repulsions leads to an increased tendency for localization. We then model the dynamics for l…
We study the localization in the Hilbert space of a modified Tomonaga-Luttinger model. For the standard version of this model, the states are found to be extended in the basis of Slater determinants, representing the eigenstates of the non-interacting system. The linear dispersion which leads to the fact that these eigenstates are extended in the modified model is replaced by one with random level spacings modeling the complicated one-particle spectra of realistic models. The localization properties of the eigenstates are studied. The interactions are simplified and an effective one-dimensiona…

Inspired by works on the Anderson model on sparse graphs, we devise a method to analyze the localization properties of sparse systems that may be solved using cavity theory. We apply this method to study the properties of the eigenvectors of the master operator of the sparse Barrat-Mézard trap model, with an emphasis on the extended phase. As probes for localization, we consider the inverse participation ratio and the correlation volume, both dependent on the distribution of the diagonal elements of the resolvent. Our results reveal a rich and non-trivial behavior of the estimators across the …

The nature of extended states in disordered tight binding models with a constant imaginary vector potential is explored. Such models, relevant to vortex physics in superconductors and to population biology, exhibit a delocalization transition and a band of extended states even for a one dimensional ring. Using an analysis of eigenvalue trajectories in the complex plane, we demonstrate that each delocalized state is characterized by an (integer) winding number, and evaluate the associated complex current. Winding numbers in higher dimensions are also discussed.
Anderson localization on tree-like graphs such as the Bethe lattice, Cayley tree, or random regular graphs has attracted attention due to its apparent mathematical tractability, hypothesized connections to many-body localization, and the possibility of non-ergodic extended regimes. This behavior has been conjectured to also appear in many-body localization as a "bad metal" phase, and constitutes an intermediate possibility between the extremes of ergodic quantum chaos and integrable localization. Despite decades of research, a complete consensus understanding of this model remains elusive. Her…
We show that the localization transition in the integer quantum Hall effect as described by the Chalker-Coddington network model is quantum critical. We first map the anisotropic network model to the problem of diagonalizing a one-dimensional non-Hermitian non-compact supersymmetric lattice Hamiltonian of interacting bosons and fermions. Its behavior is investigated numerically using the density matrix renormalization group method, and critical behavior is found at the plateau transition. This result is confirmed by an exact, analytic, generalization of the Lieb-Schultz-Mattis theorem.
We resolve an existing question concerning the location of the mobility edge for operators with a hopping term and a random potential on the Bethe lattice. The model has been among the earliest studied for Anderson localization, and it continues to attract attention because of analogies which have been suggested with localization issues for many particle systems. We find that extended states appear through disorder enabled resonances well beyond the energy band of the operator's hopping term. For weak disorder this includes a Lifshits tail regime of very low density of states.
