In this work, by employing the exterior algebra formalism, we study the matter coupling in Minimal Massive 3D Gravity (MMG) by first considering that the matter Lagrangian is connection-independent and then considering that the matter coupling is connection-dependent. The matter coupling in MMG has been previously investigated in the work Arvanitakis {\it et al} (2014 {\it Class. Quantum Grav.} {\bf 31} 235012) in tensorial notation where the matter Lagrangian is considered to be connection-independent. In the first part of the present paper, we revisit the connection-independent matter coupling by using the language of differential forms. We derive the MMG field equation and construct the related source 2-form. We also obtain the consistency relation within this formalism. Next, we examine the case where the matter Lagrangian is connection-dependent. In particular, we concentrate on the spinor-matter coupling and obtain the MMG field equation by explicitly constructing the source term. We also get the consistency relation that the source term should satisfy in order that spinor-matter coupled MMG equation be consistent.
Coupling spinor fields to the gravitational field, in the setting of general relativity, is standardly done via the introduction of a vierbein field and the (associated minimal) spin connection field. This makes three types of indices feature in the formalism: world/coordinate indices, Lorentz vector indices, and Lorentz spinor indices, respectively. This article will show, though, that it is possible to dispense altogther with the Lorentz indices, both tensorial ones and spinorial ones, obtaining a formalism featuring only world indices. This will be possible by having both the 'Dirac operato…
In this article we construct a geometric invariant for initial data sets for the vacuum Einstein field equations $(\mathcal{S},h_{ab},K_{ab})$, such that $\mathcal{S}$ is a 3-dimensional manifold with an asymptotically Euclidean end and an inner boundary $\partial \mathcal{S}$ with the topology of the 2-sphere. The hypersurface $\mathcal{S}$ can be though of being in the domain of outer communication of a black hole or in the exterior of a star. The geometric invariant vanishes if and only if $(\mathcal{S},h_{ab},K_{ab})$ is an initial data set for the Kerr spacetime. The construction makes us…
The D=10 pure spinor constraint can be solved in terms of spinor moving frame variables and 8-component complex null vector which can be related to the kappa-symmetry ghost. Using this and similar solutions for the conjugate pure spinor and other elements of the non-minimal pure spinor formalism we present a (hopefully useful) reformulation of the measure of the pure spinor path integral for superstring in terms of products of Cartan form corresponding to the coset of 10D Lorentz group and to the coset of complex orthogonal group SO(8,C). Our study suggests a possible complete reformulation of…
We develop a frame and dyad gauge-independent formalism for the calculus of variations of functionals involving spinorial objects. As part of this formalism we define a modified variation operator which absorbs frame and spin dyad gauge terms. This formalism is applicable to both the standard spacetime (i.e. SL(2,C)) 2-spinors as well as to space (i.e. SU(2,C)) 2-spinors. We compute expressions for the variations of the connection and the curvature spinors.
To study the coupling system of space-time and Fermions, we need the explicit form of the energy-momentum tensor of spinors. The energy-momentum tensor is closely related to the tetrad frames which cannot be uniquely determined by the metric. This flexibility increases difficulties to derive the exact expression and easily leads to ambiguous results. In this paper, we give a detailed derivation for the energy-momentum tensor of Weyl and Dirac spinors. From the results we find that, besides the usual kinetic energy momentum term, there are three kinds of other additional terms. One is the nonli…
The spinor-helicity formalism is an essential technique of the amplitudes community. We draw on this method to construct a scheme for classifying higher-dimensional spacetimes in the style of the four-dimensional Petrov classification and the Newman-Penrose formalism. We focus on the five-dimensional case for concreteness. Our spinorial scheme naturally reproduces the full structure previously seen in both the CMPP and de Smet classifications, and resolves longstanding questions concerning the relationship between the two classifications.
We construct the Wightman function for symmetric traceless tensors and Dirac fermions in dS$_{d+1}$ in a coordinate and index free formalism using a $d+2$ dimensional ambient space. We expand the embedding space formalism to cover spinor and tensor fields in any even or odd dimension. Our goal is to furnish a self-contained toolkit for the study of fields of arbitrary spin in de Sitter, with applications to cosmological perturbation theory. The construction for spinors is shown in extensive detail. Concise expressions for the action of isometry generators on generic bulk fields, the 2-point fu…
We apply a global and geometrically well-defined formalism for spinor-dilaton-gravity to two-dimensional manifolds. We discuss the general formalism and focus attention on some particular choices of the dilatonic potential. For constant dilatonic potential the model turns out to be completely solvable and the general solution is found. For linear and exponential dilatonic potentials we present the class of exact solutions with a Killing vector.
Superradiant scattering, which can be thought of as the wave analogue of the Penrose process is revisited. As is well-known, boson fields display superradiance provided they have frequency in a certain range whereas fermion fields do not. A succinct superradiance-checking algorithm employing particle number or energy current is formally reviewed and then applied to the case of fermion field. The demonstrations of the absence of fermionic superradiance in terms of the particle number current exist in the literature but they are in the context of two-component SL(2,C) spinor formalism for massiv…
In de Sitter ambient space formalism, the massless minimally coupled scalar field can be constructed from a massless conformally coupled scalar field and a constant five-vector $A^α$. Also, a constant five-vector $B^α$ appears in the interaction Lagrangian of massless minimally coupled scalar and spinor fields in this formalism. These constant five-vector fields can be fixed in the interaction case in the null curvature limit. Here we will calculate the $\cal S$ matrix elements of scalar-spinor fields interaction in the tree level approximation. Then the constant five-vectors $A^α$ and $B^α$, …

In this paper we present a space-time calculus for symmetric spinors, including a product with a number of index contractions followed by symmetrization. As all operations stay within the class of symmetric spinors, no involved index manipulations are needed. In fact spinor indices are not needed in the formalism. It is also general because any covariant tensor expression in a 4-dimensional Lorentzian spacetime can be translated to this formalism. The computer algebra implementation SymSpin as part of xAct for Mathematica is also presented.
A review of some facts concerning classical spacetime geometry is presented together with a description of the most elementary aspects of the two-component spinor formalisms of Infeld and van der Waerden. Special attention is concentrated upon the gauge characterization of the basic geometric objects borne by the formalisms. It is pointed out that spin-affine configurations are most naively defined by carrying out parallel displacements of null world vectors within the framework of the γ-formalism. The standard result that assigns a covariant gauge behaviour to the symmetric parts of any admis…
In the framework of real 2-component spinors in three dimensional space-time we present a description of topologically massive gravity (TMG) in terms of differential forms with triad scalar coefficients. This is essentially a real version of the Newman-Penrose formalism in general relativity. A triad formulation of TMG was considered earlier by Hall, Morgan and Perjes, however, due to an unfortunate choice of signature some of the spinors underlying the Hall-Morgan-Perjes formalism are real, while others are pure imaginary. We obtain the basic geometrical identities as well as the TMG field eq…
Given a real representation of the Clifford algebra corresponding to $R^{p+q}$ with metric of signature $(p,q)$, we demonstrate the existence of two natural bilinear forms on the space of spinors. With the Clifford action of $k$-forms on spinors, the bilinear forms allow us to relate two spinors with elements of the exterior algebra. From manipulations of a rank four spinorial tensor, we are able to find a general class of identities which, upon specializing from four spinors to two spinors and one spinor in signatures (1,3) and (10,1), yield some well-known Fierz identities. We will see, surp…
The spinor representation of the Lorentz group does not accept simple generalization with the group GL(4,R) of general linear coordinate transformations. The Dirac equation may be written for an arbitrary choice of a coordinate system and a metric, but the covariant linear transformations of the four-component Dirac spinor exist only for isometries. For usual diagonal Minkowski metric the isometry is the Lorentz transformation. On the other hand, it is possible to define the Dirac operator on the space of anti-symmetric (exterior) forms, and in such a case the equation is covariant for an arbi…

The scalar-spinor interaction Lagrangian is presented by the Yukawa potential. In dS ambient space formalism, the interaction Lagrangian of scalar-spinor fields was obtained from a new transformation which is very similar to the guage theory. The interaction of massless minimally coupled scalar and spinor fields was investigated. The Minkowski limit of the massless minimally coupled scalar field and massive spinor field interaction in the ambient space formalism of de Sitter space time is calculated. The interaction Lagrangian and massless minimally coupled scalar field in the null curvature l…
A new formalism for spinors on curved spaces is developed in the framework of variational calculus on fibre bundles. The theory has the same structure of a gauge theory and describes the interaction between the gravitational field and spinors. An appropriate gauge structure is also given to General Relativity, replacing the metric field with spin frames. Finally, conserved quantities and superpotentials are calculated under a general covariant form.
The essentially unique torsionful version of the classical two-component spinor formalisms of Infeld and van der Waerden is presented. All the metric spinors and connecting objects that arise here are formally the same as the ones borne by the traditional formalisms. Any spin-affine connexion appears to possess a torsional part which is conveniently chosen as a suitable asymmetric contribution. Such a torsional affine contribution thus supplies a gauge-invariant potential that can eventually be taken to carry an observable character, and thereby effectively takes over the role of any trivially…
