We consider the meson and baryon production in the quark-gluon plasma as applied to the early Universe and ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions in collider. The essential feature of our investigation is to take into account a potential barrier for quarks under meson and baryon production. We have used the Boltzmann equation to describe kinetic processes of quark fusion. We have derived analytic expressions for solutions of kinetic equations. This permits to find the dependence of reaction rate on a time, temperature, mass and charge of quarks as well as on a string tension connected with the confining potential. Next we have considered in detail the meson and baryon production for some concrete kinetic processes in collisions of ultrarelativistic heavy ions. Exactly the same results will be as well true for processes in expanding Universe
A Boltzmann equation is given for the early stages of evolution of the gluon system produced in a head-on collision. The collision term is taken from gluon- gluon approximation. < p_\perp > and < p_z^2 > are evaluated as a function of time using initial conditions taken from the McLerran-Venugopalan model.
We show how the Landau-Pomeranchuk-Migdal effect on photon production rates in a quark-gluon plasma can be derived via the usual Boltzmann equation. To do this, we first derive the electromagnetic polarization tensor using linear response theory, and then formulate the Boltzmann equation including the collisions mediated by soft gluon exchanges. We then identify the resulting expression for the production rate with that obtained by the field-theoretic formalism recently proposed by Arnold, Moore and Yaffe. To illustrate the LPM effect we solve the Boltzmann equation in the diffusion approximat…
A novel non-perturbative gluon junction mechanism is introduced within the HIJING/B nuclear collision event generator to calculate baryon number transport and hyperon production in pA and AA collisions. This gluonic mechanism can account for the observed large mid-rapidity valence baryon yield in Pb+Pb at 160 AGeV and predicts high initial baryon densities at RHIC. However, the highly enhanced Lambda-Lambdabar yield and the baryon transverse momentum flow observed in this reaction can only be partially described.
We have developed a numerical framework for a full solution of the relativistic Boltzmann equations for the quark-gluon matter using the multiple Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) on distributed clusters. Including all the $2 \to 2$ scattering processes of 3-flavor quarks and gluons, we compute the time evolution of distribution functions in both coordinate and momentum spaces for the cases of pure gluons, quarks and the mixture of quarks and gluons. By introducing a symmetrical sampling method on GPUs which ensures the particle number conservation, our framework is able to perform the space-ti…
We derive the generalized Boltzmann equation (GBE) near equilibrium from the Kadanoff-Baym equation for quark excitation with ultrasoft momentum (~g^2T, g: coupling constant, T: temperature) in quantum chromodynamics (QCD) at extremely high T, and show that the equation is equivalent to the self-consistent equation derived in the resummed perturbation scheme used to analyze the quark propagator. We obtain the expressions of the dispersion relation, the damping rate, and the strength of a quark excitation with ultrasoft momentum by solving the GBE. We also show that the GBE enables us to obtain…
We study baryon spectroscopy including the effects of pseudoscalar meson exchange and one gluon exchange potentials between quarks, governed by $α_s$. The non-perturbative, hyperspherical method calculations show that one can obtain a good description of the data by using a quark-meson coupling constant that is compatible with the measured pion-nucleon coupling constant, and a reasonably small value of $α_s$.
A Linear Boltzmann Transport model within perturbative QCD is developed for the study of parton propagation inside the quark-gluon plasma. Both leading partons and thermal recoil partons are tracked so that one can also study jet-induced medium excitations. In this study, we implement the complete set of elastic parton scattering processes and investigate elastic parton energy loss, transverse momentum broadening and their nontrivial energy and length dependence. We further investigate medium modifications of the jet shape and fragmentation functions of reconstructed jets. Contributions from t…
We extend the Fock-Tani formalism to include the meson-baryon interaction. The Fock-Tani formalism is a first principle method which allows the use of field theoretic methods for treating systems of composite particles. An application of this general result can be the $K^{+}N$ system which is now reconized as much more suitable system for the investigation of the short range nature of the hadronic repulsion.
We evaluate the factor $κ$ appearing in Langer's expression for the nucleation rate extended to the case of hadron bubbles forming in zero baryon number cooled quark-gluon plasma. We consider both the absence and presence of viscosity and show that viscous effects introduce only small changes in the value of $κ$
Five dimensional black hole solutions that describe the QCD crossover transition seen in $(2+1)$-flavor lattice QCD calculations at zero and nonzero baryon densities are used to obtain predictions for the baryon susceptibility, baryon conductivity, baryon diffusion constant, and thermal conductivity of the strongly coupled quark-gluon plasma in the range of temperatures $130\,\textrm{MeV}\le T\le 300\,\textrm{MeV}$ and baryon chemical potentials $0\le μ_B \le 400\,\textrm{MeV}$. Diffusive transport is predicted to be suppressed in this region of the QCD phase diagram, which is consistent with …
QCD as a gauge non-Abelian theory imposes severe constraints on the structure of the baryon wave function. We point out that, contrary to a widely accepted belief, the traces of baryon number in a high-energy process can reside in a non-perturbative configuration of gluon fields, rather than in the valence quarks. We argue that this conjecture can be tested experimentally, since it can lead to substantial baryon asymmetry in the central rapidity region of ultra-relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions.
Recent results from the H1 experiment [1] have confirmed the existence of a substantial baryon asymmetry of the proton sea at small $x$ with magnitude predicted in hep-ph/9607486. This is a strong support for the idea [3] that baryon number can be transferred by gluons through a large rapidity interval without attenuation. In this paper we calculate the dependence of baryon asymmetry on associated multiplicity of produced hadrons which turns out to be very sensitive to the underlying dynamics. Comparison with data [1] confirms the dominance of the gluonic mechanism of baryon number transfer an…
We show that $ω_B$ or $ω_{\bar B}$, the squared baryon or antibaryon number fluctuation per baryon or antibaryon, is a possible signature for the quark-gluon plasma that is expected to be created in relativistic heavy ion collisions, as it is a factor of three smaller than in an equilibrated hadronic matter due to the fractional baryon number of quarks. Using kinetic equations with exact baryon number conservation, we find that their values in an equilibrated matter are half of those expected from a Poisson distribution. Effects due to finite acceptance and non-zero net baryon number are also …
A Linearized Boltzmann Transport (LBT) model coupled with hydrodynamical background is established to describe the evolution of jet shower partons and medium excitations in high energy heavy-ion collisions. We extend the LBT model to include both elastic and inelastic processes for light and heavy partons in the quark-gluon plasma. A hybrid model of fragmentation and coalescence is developed for the hadronization of heavy quarks. Within this framework, we investigate how heavy flavor observables depend on various ingredients, such as different energy loss and hadronization mechanisms, the mome…
We investigate the effects of a baryon-antibaryon asymmetry on the spectrum of dileptons radiating from a quark gluon plasma. We demonstrate the existence of a new set of processes in this regime. The dilepton production rate from the corresponding diagrams is shown to be as important as that obtained from the usual quark-antiquark annihilation.
It is argued that in heavy ion collisions at LHC there could be a sizeable production of baryons containing two or three heavy quarks from statistical coalescence. This production mechanism is peculiar of Quark Gluon Plasma and the predicted rates, in heavy ion collisions at LHC energy, exceed those from a purely hadronic scenario, particularly for Xi_bc and Omega_ccc. Thus, besides the interest in the discovery of these new states, enhanced ratios of these baryons over singly heavy flavoured hadrons, like B or D, in heavy ion collisions with respect to pp at the same energy, would be a clear …
We discuss the possibility of generation of baryon inhomogeneities in a quark-gluon plasma phase due to moving Z(3) interfaces. By modeling the dependence of effective mass of the quarks on the Polyakov loop order parameter, we study the reflection of quarks from collapsing Z(3) interfaces and estimate resulting baryon inhomogeneities in the context of the early universe. We argue that in the context of certain low energy scale inflationary models, it is possible that large Z(3) walls arise at the end of the reheating stage. Collapse of such walls could lead to baryon inhomogeneities which may…
The quark-gluon plasma behaves as a relativistic viscous fluid in high-energy heavy ion collisions. I develop a causal dissipative hydrodynamic model at finite baryon density for RHIC and LHC to estimate the net baryon rapidity distribution. The net baryon number is found to be carried to forward rapidity by the flow, effectively enhancing the transparency of the collisions. This suggests that the energy available for the production of a hot medium could be larger than that naively implied from experimental data. Also the distribution can be sensitive to baryon dissipation as much as to shear …
We develop a new heavy quark transport model, QLBT, to simulate the dynamical propagation of heavy quarks inside the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) created in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Our QLBT model is based on the linear Boltzmann transport (LBT) model with the ideal QGP replaced by a collection of quasi-particles to account for the non-perturbative interactions among quarks and gluons of the hot QGP. The thermal masses of quasi-particles are fitted to the equation of state from lattice QCD simulations using the Bayesian statistical analysis method. Combining QLBT with our advanced hybrid…
We study the evolution of a gluon system under conditions of density and temperature similar to those explored in the early stage of ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. We first describe the implementation of Relativistic Boltzmann-Nordheim (RBN) transport approach that includes in the collision integral the quantum effects of Bose-Einstein Statistics. Then, we describe the evolution of a spatially uniform gluon system in a box under elastic collisions solving the RBN for various initial conditions. We discuss the critical phase-space density that leads to the onset of a Bose-Einstein con…
Lattice data for the QCD equation of state and the baryon susceptibility near the crossover phase transition (at zero baryon density) are used to determine the input parameters of a 5-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton holographic model that provides a consistent holographic framework to study both equilibrium and out-of-equilibrium properties of a hot and {\it baryon rich} strongly coupled quark-gluon plasma (QGP). We compare our holographic equation of state computed at nonzero baryon chemical potential, $μ_B$, with recent lattice calculations and find quantitative agreement for the pressu…
We derive a general expression for the absorptive part of the one-loop photon polarization tensor in a strongly magnetized quark-gluon plasma at nonzero baryon chemical potential. To demonstrate the application of the main result in the context of heavy-ion collisions, we study the effect of a nonzero baryon chemical potential on the photon emission rate. The rate and the ellipticity of photon emission are studied numerically as a function the transverse momentum (energy) for several values of temperature and chemical potential. When the chemical potential is small compared to the temperature,…
By considering the effect of shear viscosity we have investigated the evolution of a chemically equilibrating quark-gluon plasma at finite baryon density. Based on the evolution of the system we have performed a complete calculation for the dilepton production from the following processes: $q\bar{q}{\to}l\bar{l}$, $q\bar{q}{\to}gl\bar{l}$, Compton-like scattering ($qg{\to}ql\bar{l}$, $\bar{q}g{\to}{\bar{q}}l\bar{l}$), gluon fusion $g\bar{g}{\to}c\bar{c}$, annihilation $q\bar{q}{\to}c\bar{c}$ as well as the multiple scattering of quarks. We have found that quark-antiquark annihilation, Compton-…
The maximum achievable temperature (energy density) and minimum kinetic energy required for the formation of a baryon-rich quark-gluon plasma formed at central rapidity in small impact parameter nuclear collisions is estimated. A possible mechanism leading to the pile-up of matter is introduced. Plasma formation is expected to appear at about 15 GeV/Nucleon uranium beam energy on a stationary target or 2.7 GeV/Nucleon in colliding beams.
We explore the out-of-equilibrium dynamics of the Quark-Gluon Plasma at zero and finite net-baryon density based on an effective kinetic theory of Quantum Chromo Dynamics (QCD). By investigating the isotropization of the longitudinal pressure, we determine the relevant time and temperature scales for the onset of viscous hydrodynamics, and quantify the dependence on the chemical composition of the QGP. By extrapolating our results to realistic coupling strength, we discuss phenomenological consequences regarding the role of the pre-equilibrium phase at different collision energies.
The task of mapping and explaining the spectrum of baryons and the structure of these states in terms of quarks and gluons is a longstanding challenge in hadron physics, which is likely to persist for another decade or more. We review the progress made in this topic using a functional method based on Dyson-Schwinger equations. This framework provides a non-perturbative, Poincaré-covariant continuum formulation of Quantum Chromodynamics which is able to extract novel insight on baryon properties since the physics at the hadron level is directly related with the underlying quark-gluon substructu…
We have investigated the charmonium survival probability, in a high baryon density parton plasma, expected to be produced in nuclear collisions at FAIR. Charmonia are assumed to undergo complete dissociation by color screening, if the in-medium Debye radius becomes comparable to the spatial size of the corresponding bound state. Results indicate a non-trivial dependence of the suppression pattern on the plasma evolution dynamics. A much larger magnitude of suppression is foreseen induced by cold nuclear matter compared to that due to plasma screening.
We compute the photon production of a QCD plasma at leading order in the strong coupling with a finite baryon chemical potential. Our approach starts from the real time formalism of finite temperature field theory. We identify the class of diagrams contributing at leading order when a finite chemical potential is added and resum them to perform a full treatment of the LPM effect similar to the one performed by Arnold, Moore, and Yaffe at zero chemical potential. Our results show that the contribution of $2\mapsto 3$ and $3\mapsto 2$ processes grows as the chemical potential grows.
We discuss the propagation of heavy quarks (charm and bottom) through the QGP by means of a relativistic Boltzmann transport approach including both collisional and radiative energy loss mechanisms. In particular we investigate the impact of induced gluon radiation by dynamical QCD medium implementing in our transport model a formula for the emitted gluon spectrum calculated in a higher-twist scheme. We notice that in the region of high transverse momentum ($p_T > 10$ GeV) radiative processes play an essential role giving a dominant contribution to the generation of $R_{AA}$ and $v_2$ at momen…
Strongly interacting matter undergoes a crossover phase transition at high temperatures $T\sim 10^{12}$ K and zero net-baryon density. A fundamental question in the theory of strong interactions, Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), is whether a hot and dense system of quarks and gluons displays critical phenomena when doped with more quarks than antiquarks, where net-baryon number fluctuations diverge. Recent lattice QCD work indicates that such a critical point can only occur in the baryon dense regime of the theory, which defies a description from first principles calculations. Here we use the hol…
Using the Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinia (PNJL) model, we study the spinodal instability of a baryon-rich quark-gluon plasma in the linear response theory. We find that the spinodal unstable region in the temperature and density plane shrinks with increasing wave number of the unstable mode and is also reduced if the effect of Polyakov loop is not included. In the small wave number or long wavelength limit, the spinodal boundaries in both cases of with and without the Polyakov loop coincide with those determined from the isothermal spinodal instability in the thermodynamic approach. Also, the vec…
Heavy ion collisions in the low energy run at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and future Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) in Germany are expected to produce a quark-gluon plasma that has a finite baryon chemical potential, allowing thus the possibility to study the location of the critical endpoint in the QCD phase diagram. In this talk, using a multiphase transport model, that includes interactions in both initial partonic and final hadronic matters and the transition between these two phases of matter, we discuss the effects of partonic interactions on observables such …
Chiral Magnetic Wave (CMW) is a gapless collective excitation of quark-gluon plasma in the presence of external magnetic field that stems from the interplay of Chiral Magnetic (CME) and Chiral Separation Effects (CSE); it is composed by the waves of the electric and chiral charge densities coupled by the axial anomaly. We consider CMW at finite baryon density and find that it induces the electric quadrupole moment of the quark-gluon plasma produced in heavy ion collisions: the "poles" of the produced fireball (pointing outside of the reaction plane) acquire additional positive electric charge,…
The interaction of spatially extended heavy hadrons is investigated in the framework of lattice QCD with dynamical quarks. In addition to the baryon-baryon potential results for the baryon-antibaryon and for the meson-meson system are presented. It is shown that the expected dipole forces have a very short range and that sea quarks play a minor important role.
Recently there was a significant change of views on physical properties and underlying dynamics of Quark-Gluon Plasma at $T=170-350 MeV$, produced in heavy ion collisions at RHIC. Instead of being a gas of $q,g$ quasiparticles, a near-perfect liquid is observed. Also, precisely in this temperature interval, the interaction deduced from lattice studies is strong enough to support multiple binary bound states. This work is the first variational study of {\em multibody} bound states. We will consider: (i) ``polymer chains'' of the type $\bar q g g ..g q$; (ii) baryons $(qqq)$; (iii) closed (3-)ch…
Aiming at a microscopic description of heavy ion collisions in the beam energy region of about 10 A GeV, we extend the Giessen Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (GiBUU) transport model by including a relativistic mean field, in-medium baryon-baryon cross sections and three-body collisions. The model is then compared with experimental data for central Au+Au collisions at 2-10 A GeV and central Pb+Pb collisions at 30 and 40 A GeV on the proton rapidity spectra, the midrapidity yields of $π^+$, $K^\pm$ and $(Λ+Σ^0)$, and the transverse mass spectra of $π^\pm$ and $K^\pm$. The three-body collisions incr…
We study the color randomization of two-gluon states produced after splitting of a primary fast gluon in the quark-gluon plasma. We find that for the LHC conditions the color randomization of the $gg$ pairs is rather slow. At jet energies $E=100$ and $500$ GeV, for typical jet path length in the plasma in central Pb+Pb collisions, the $SU(3)$-multiplet averaged color Casimir of the $gg$ pair differs considerably from its value $2N_c$ for a fully randomized $gg$ state. Our calculations of the energy dependence for generation of the nearly collinear decuplet $gg$ states, that can lead to the bar…
We review the methods and results obtained in an analysis of the experimental heavy ion collision research program at nuclear beam energy of 160-200A GeV. We study strange, and more generally, hadronic particle production experimental data. We discuss present expectations concerning how these observables will perform at other collision energies. We also present the dynamical theory of strangeness production and apply it to show that it agrees with available experimental results. We describe strange hadron production from the baryon-poor quark-gluon phase formed at much higher reaction energies…
We apply the momentum integrated Boltzmann transport equation to study the time evolution of various quark flavours in the central region of ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions. The effects of thermal masses for quarks and gluons are incorporated to take into account the in-medium properties of these ingredients of the putative quark gluon plasma. We find that even under very optimistic conditions, complete chemical equilibration in the quark gluon plasma appears unlikely.

The Equation of States (EoS) plays the crucial role in all studies of neutron star properties. Still, a microscopical understanding of EoS remains largely an unresolved problem. We use 2-color QCD as a model to study the dependence of vacuum energy (gluon condensate in QCD) as function of chemical potential μ\ll Λ_{QCD} where we find very strong and unexpected dependence on $μ$. We present the arguments suggesting that similar behavior may occur in 3-color QCD in the color superconducting phases. Such a study may be of importance for analysis of EoS when phenomenologically relevant parameters …
A system of equations of anisotropic hydrodynamics that describes mixture of quark and gluon fluids is studied. The equations are based on the zeroth, first, and second moments of the RTA kinetic equations. Tests of this formulation are performed by comparing the results of anisotropic hydorodynamics with the exact solutions of the Boltzmann equations for a mixture of fluids in the Bjorken flow limit. One finds a very good agreement between the hydrodynamic and kinetic-theory results.
We study anomalous high-$p_T$ baryon production in $AA$-collisions due to formation of the two parton collinear $gq$ system in the anti-sextet color state for quark jets and $gg$ system in the decuplet/anti-decuplet color states for gluon jets. Fragmentation of these states, which are absent for $NN$-collisions, after escaping from the quark-gluon plasma leads to baryon production. Our qualitative estimates show that this mechanism can be potentially important at RHIC and LHC energies.
One of the primary goals of nuclear physics is studying the phase diagram of Quantum Chromodynamics, where a hypothetical critical point serves as a landmark. A systematic model-data comparison of heavy-ion collisions at center-of-mass energies between 1 and 100 GeV per nucleon is essential for locating the critical point and the phase boundary between the deconfined quark-gluon plasma and the confined hadron resonance gas. At these energies the net baryon density of the system can be high and critical fluctuations can become essential in the presence of the critical point. Simulating their dy…

We discuss an outside-inside scenario for a first order quark-hadron transition in the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) expected to be produced in heavy ion collisions, wherein the entire QGP region itself becomes like a subcritical bubble, and starts shrinking. We argue that this shrinking QGP bubble will lead to concentration of baryon number in a narrow beam like region in center, which can be detected by HBT analysis, or as a raised plateau in the rapidity plot of baryon number.
A calculation of the masses and electromagnetic properties of the Delta and Omega baryon together with their evolution with the current quark mass is presented. Hereby a generalized Bethe-Salpeter approach with the interaction truncated to a dressed one-gluon exchange is employed. The model dependence is explored by investigating two forms for the dressed gluon exchange.
The lower excitation spectrum of the nucleon and $Δ$ is calculated in a relativistic chiral quark model. Corrections to the baryon mass spectrum from the second order self-energy and exchange diagrams induced by pion and gluon fields are estimated in the field -theoretical framework. Convergent results for the self-energy terms are obtained when including the intermediate quark and antiquark states with a total momentum up to $j=25/2$. Relativistic one-meson and color-magnetic one-gluon exchange forces are shown to generate spin 0, 1, 2, etc. operators, which couple the lower and the upper com…
The thermodynamic properties of the quark gluon plasma($QGP$) as well as its phase diagram are calculated as a function of baryon density (chemical potential) and temperature. The $QGP$ is assumed to be composed of the light quarks only, i.e. the up and the down quarks, which interact weakly and the gluons which are treated as they are free. The interaction between quarks is considered in the framework of the one gluon exchange model which is obtained from the Fermi liquid picture. The bag model is used, with fixed bag pressure (${\cal B}$) for the nonperturbative part and the quantum chromody…
We investigate the relativistic equation of state of hadronic matter and quark-gluon plasma at finite temperature and baryon density in the framework of the nonextensive statistical mechanics, characterized by power-law quantum distributions. We study the phase transition from hadronic matter to quark-gluon plasma by requiring the Gibbs conditions on the global conservation of baryon number and electric charge fraction. We show that nonextensive statistical effects play a crucial role in the equation of state and in the formation of mixed phase also for small deviations from the standard Boltz…
Parton equilibration for a thermally equilibrated but chemically non-equilibrated quark gluon plasma is presented. Parton equilibration is studied enforcing baryon numbver conservation. Process like quark flavour interchanging is also considered. The degree of equilibration is studied comparatively for the various reactions / constraints that are being considered.
The gluon condensate as a function of temperature and baryon density in a nucleon medium is obtained from an effective dilaton Lagrangian. It is shown that, at a normal nuclear density of nucleons, n_0 = 0.17 fm^{-3} the gluon condensate decreases by about 10%.
The recently developed framework of anisotropic hydrodynamics is generalized to describe the dynamics of coupled quark and gluon fluids. The quark and gluon components of the fluids are characterized by different dynamical anisotropy parameters. The dynamical equations describing such mixtures are derived from kinetic theory with the collisional kernel treated in the relaxation- time approximation allowing for different relaxation times for quarks and gluons. Baryon number conservation is enforced in the quark and anti-quark components of the fluid, but overall parton number non-conservation i…
