This paper presents a study on Jordan maps over matrix rings with some functional equations related to additive maps on these rings. We first show that every Jordan left (right) centralizer over a matrix ring is a left (right) centralizer. Moreover, every two-sided centralizer over the matrix ring is of a particular form. Further, we prove that any additive map satisfying functional equations over matrix rings becomes a two-sided centralizer. Finally, we conclude our work with some results on the Jordan left $\star$- centralizer over matrix rings and establish some results on functional equations that arise for the $\star$-centralizer.
The main purpose of this paper is to show that every Jordan centralizer and every Jordan two-sided centralizer is a centralizer on triangular rings without assuming unity. As an application, we prove that every Jordan generalized derivation on a triangular ring is a two-sided generalized derivation. Some other related results are also discussed.
In this paper we characterize all nilpotent orbits under the action by conjugation that intersect the nilpotent centralizer of a nilpotent matrix $B$ consisting of two Jordan blocks of the same size. We list all the possible Jordan canonical forms of the nilpotent matrices that commute with $B$ by characterizing the corresponding partitions.
In this paper we give an affirmative answer to two conjectures on generalized $(m,n)$-Jordan derivations and generalized $(m,n)$-Jordan centralizers raised in [S. Ali and A. Fošner, \textit{On Generalized $(m, n)$-Derivations and Generalized $(m, n)$-Jordan Derivations in Rings,} Algebra Colloq. \textbf{21} (2014), 411--420] and [A. Fošner, \textit{A note on generalized $(m,n)$-Jordan centralizers,} Demonstratio Math. \textbf{46} (2013), 254--262]. Precisely, when $R$ is a semiprime ring, we prove, under some suitable torsion restrictions, that every nonzero generalized $(m,n)$-Jordan derivati…
In this article, we prove Conjecture $1$ posed in 2013 by Fo$\check{s}$ner \cite{fos} and Conjecture $1$ posed in 2014 by Ali and Fo$\check{s}$ner \cite{ali} related to generalized $(m,n)$-Jordan centralizer and derivation respectively.
Let $\T$ be a $2$-torsion free triangular ring and let $φ:\T\rightarrow \T$ be an additive map. We prove that if $\A φ(\B)+φ(\B)\A=0$ whenever $\A,\B\in \T$ are such that $\A\B=\B\A=0$, then $φ$ is a centralizer. It is also shown that if $τ:\T\rightarrow \T$ is an additive map satisfying $\label{t2} X,Y\in \T, \quad XY=YX=0\Rightarrow X τ(Y)+δ(X)Y+Yδ(X)+τ(Y)X=0$, where $δ:\T\rightarrow \T $ is an additive map satisfies $X,Y\in \T, \quad XY=YX=0\Rightarrow X δ(Y)+δ(X)Y+Yδ(X)+δ(Y)X=0$, then $τ(\A)=d(\A)+\A τ(\textbf{1})$, where $d:\T\rightarrow \T$ is a derivation and $τ(\textbf{1})$ lies in the…
The centralizer of an endomorphism of a finite dimensional vector space is known when the endomorphism is nonderogatory or when its minimal polynomial splits over the field. It is also known for the real Jordan canonical form. In this paper we characterize the centralizer of endomorphisms over arbitrary fields for whatever minimal polynomial, and compute its dimension. The result is obtained via generalized Jordan canonical forms (for separable and non separable minimal polynomials). In addition, we also obtain the corresponding generalized Weyr canonical forms and the structure of its central…
Let $R$ be a finite ring and let $\Cent(R)$ denote the set of all distinct centralizers of $R$. $R$ is called an $n$-centralizer ring if $|Cent(R)| = n$. In this paper, we characterize $n$-centralizer finite rings for $n \leq 7$.
Let $R$ be a finite ring. The commuting probability of $R$, denoted by $\Pr(R)$, is the probability that any two randomly chosen elements of $R$ commute. $R$ is called an $n$-centralizer ring if it has $n$ distinct centralizers. In this paper, we compute $\Pr(R)$ for some $n$-centralizer finite rings.
In this paper we consider centralizers of single elements in Ore extensions of the ring of polynomials in one variable over a field. We show that they are commutative and finitely generated as an algebra. We also show that for certain classes of elements their centralizer is singly generated as an algebra.
In this paper, we compute the number of distinct centralizers of some classes of finite rings. We then characterize all finite rings with $n$ distinct centralizers for any positive integer $n \leq 5$. Further we give some connections between the number of distinct centralizers of a finite ring and its commutativity degree.
Let $U$ be a Lie ideal of a 2-torsion free prime $Γ$-ring $M$ such that $uαu\in U$ for all $u\in U$ and $α\inΓ$. If $T:M\rightarrow M$ is an additive mapping satifying the relation $T(uαu)=T(u)αu$ for all $u\in U$ and $α\inΓ$, then we prove that $T(uαv)=T(u)αv$ for all $u, v\in U$ and $α\inΓ$. Also this result is extended to semiprime $Γ$-rings.
In this paper, we first prove that the absorption law for one-sided inverses along an element holds, deriving the absorption law for the inverse along an element. We then apply this result to obtain the absorption law for the inverse along different elements. Also, the reverse order law and the existence criterion for the inverse along an element are given by centralizers in a ring. Finally, we characterize the Moore-Penrose inverse by one-sided invertibilities in a ring with involution.
Let $M$ be a noncommutative 2-torsion free semiprime $Γ$-ring satisfying a certain assumption and let $S$ and $T$ be left centralizers on $M$. We prove the following results: \\(i) If $[S(x),T(x)]_{α}βS(x)+S(x)β[S(x),T(x)]_{α}$=$0$ holds for all $x\in M$ and $α,β\in Γ$, then $[S(x),T(x)]_{α}$=$0$. \\(ii) If $S\neq 0 (T\neq 0)$, then there exists $λ\in C$,(the extended centroid of $M$) such that $T$=$λαS(S=λαT)$ for all $α\in Γ$. \\(iii) Suppose that $[[S(x),T(x)]_{α},S(x)]_{β}$=$0$ holds for all $x\in M$ and $α,β\inΓ$. Then $[S(x),T(x)]_{α}$=$0$ for all $x\in M$ and $α\inΓ$. \\(iv) If $M$ is a…
We prove that the centralizer Cen(f) in Hom_R(M,M) of a nilpotent endomorphism f of a finitely generated semisimple left R-module M (over an arbitrary ring R) is the homomorphic image of the opposite of a certain Z(R)-subalgebra of the full m x m matrix algebra M_m(R[z]), where m is the dimension (composition length) of ker(f). If R is a local ring, then we provide an explicit description of the above Cen(f). If in addition Z(R) is a field and R/J(R) is finite dimensional over Z(R), then we give a formula for the Z(R)-dimension of Cen(f). If R is a local ring, f is as above and g is an arbitra…
Given an $n\times n$ matrix $c$ over a unitary ring $R$, the centralizer of $c$ in the full $n\times n$ matrix ring $M_n(R)$ is called a principal centralizer matrix ring, denoted by $S_n(c,R)$. We investigate its structure and prove: $(1)$ If $c$ is an invertible matrix with a $c$-free point, or if $R$ has no zero-divisors and $c$ is a Jordan-similar matrix with all eigenvalues in the center of $R$, then $M_n(R)$ is a separable Frobenius extension of $S_{n}(c,R)$ in the sense of Kasch. $(2)$ If $R$ is an integral domain and $c$ is a Jordan-similar matrix, then $S_n(c,R)$ is a cellular $R$-alg…
Let J and J' be Jordan rings. We prove under some conditions that if J contains a nontrivial idempotent, then n-multiplicative maps and n-multiplicative derivations from J to J' are additive maps.
Let $P$ be a preordered set, $R$ a ring and $FI(P,R)$ the finitary incidence ring of $P$ over $R$. We find a criterion for all Jordan derivations of $FI(P,R)$ to be derivations and generalize Theorem 3.3 from arXiv:1411.6123. In particular, we prove that each Jordan derivation of the ring $RFM_I(R)$ of row-finite $I\times I$-matrices over $R$ is a derivation, if $|I|>1$.
Let $\mathcal{C}$ be a pocategory, $FI(\mathcal{C})$ the finitary incidence ring of $\mathcal{C}$ and $φ$ a Jordan isomorphism of $FI(\mathcal{C})$ onto an associative ring $A$. We study the problem of decomposition of $φ$ into the (near-)sum of a homomorphism and an anti-homomorphism.
Let $K$ be a 2-torsion free ring with identity and $R_{n}(K,J)$ be the ring of all $n\times n$ matrices over $K$ such that the entries on and above the main diagonal are elements of an ideal $J$ of $K.$ We describe all Jordan derivations of the matrix ring $R_{n}(K,J)$ in this paper. The main result states that every Jordan derivation $Δ$ of $R_{n}(K,J)$ is of the form $Δ=D+Ω$ where $D$ is a derivation of $R_{n}(K,J)$ and $Ω$ is an extremal Jordan derivation of $R_{n}(K,J).$
The purpose of this note is to prove the following. Suppose $\R$ is a semiprime unity ring having an idempotent element e $\left(e \neq 0, e \neq 1\right)$ which satisfies mild conditions. It is shown that every additive generalized Jordan derivation on $\R$ is a generalized derivation.
Let $\mathfrak{A}$ be a unital ring with a nontrivial idempotent. In this paper, it is shown that under certain conditions every multiplicative generalized Jordan $n$-derivation $Δ:\mathfrak{A}\rightarrow\mathfrak{A}$ is additive. More precisely, it is proved that $Δ$ is of the form $Δ(t)=μt+δ(t),$ where $μ\in\mathcal{Z}(\mathfrak{A})$ and $δ:\mathfrak{A}\rightarrow\mathfrak{A}$ is a Jordan $n$-derivation. The main result is then applied to some classical examples of unital rings with nontrivial idempotents such as triangular rings, matrix rings, prime rings, nest algebras, standard operator a…
The Poisson centralizer of the trace element is determined in the coordinate ring of SL_n endowed with the Poisson structure obtained as the semiclassical limit of its quantized coordinate ring. It turns out that this maximal Poisson-commutative subalgebra coincides with the subalgebra of invariants with respect to the adjoint action.
Let $\mathcal A$ and $\mathcal B$ be unital rings and $\mathcal M$ be a $(\mathcal A, \mathcal B)$-bimodule, which is faithful as a left $\mathcal A$-module and also as a right $\mathcal B$-module. Let ${\mathcal U}={\rm Tri}(\mathcal A, \mathcal M, \mathcal B)$ be the associated triangular ring. It is shown that every additive generalized Jordan (triple) higher derivation on $\mathcal U$ is a generalized higher derivation.
Let $R$ be a ring and $Z(R)$ be the center of $R.$ The aim of this paper is to define the notions of centrally extended Jordan derivations and centrally extended Jordan $\ast$-derivations, and to prove some results involving these mappings. Precisely, we prove that if a $2$-torsion free noncommutative prime ring $R$ admits a centrally extended Jordan derivation (resp. centrally extended Jordan $\ast$-derivation) $δ:R\to R$ such that \[ [δ(x),x]\in Z(R)~~(resp.~~[δ(x),x^{\ast}]\in Z(R))\text{~for~all~}x\in R, \] where $'\ast'$ is an involution on $R,$ then $R$ is an order in a central simple al…
Guided by the research line introduced by Martindale III in [1] on the study of the additivity of maps, this article aims establish condi- tions on triangular matrix rings in order that an map ' satisfying '(ab + ba) = '(a)b + a'(b) + '(b)a + b'(a) for all a; b in a triangular matrix ring becomes additive.
Let $p$ be a prime such that the multiplicative order $m$ of $2$ modulo $p$ is even. We prove that the integral group ring $\mathbb{Z}[Q_8 \times C_p]$ has the multiplicative Jordan decomposition property when $m$ is congruent to $2$ modulo $4$. There are infinitely many such primes and these primes include the case $p \equiv 3 \pmod{4}$. We also prove that $\mathbb{Z}[Q_8 \times C_5]$ has the multiplicative Jordan decomposition property in a new way.
The impetus for this study is the work of Dumas and Rigal on the Jordanian deformation of the ring of coordinate functions on $2\times 2$ matrices. We are also motivated by current interest in birational equivalence of noncommutative rings. Recognizing the construction of the Jordanian matrix algebra as a skew polynomial ring, we construct a family of algebras relative to differential operator rings over a polynomial ring in one variable which are birationally equivalent to the Weyl algebra over a polynomial ring in two variables.
The concept of an $I$-matrix in the full $2\times 2$ matrix ring $M_2(R/I)$, where $R$ is an arbitrary UFD and $I$ is a nonzero ideal in $R$, is introduced. We obtain a concrete description of the centralizer of an $I$-matrix $\hat B$ in $M_2(R/I)$ as the sum of two subrings $\mathcal S_1$ and $\mathcal S_2$ of $M_2(R/I)$, where $\mathcal S_1$ is the image (under the natural epimorphism from $M_2(R)$ to $M_2(R/I)$) of the centralizer in $M_2(R)$ of a pre-image of $\hat B$, and where the entries in $\mathcal S_2$ are intersections of certain annihilators of elements arising from the entries of …
Let $R$ be a 2-torsion free $σ$-prime ring. It is shown here that if $U\not\subset Z(R)$ is a $σ$-Lie ideal of $R$ and $a, b$ in $R$ such that $aUb=σ(a)Ub=0,$ then either $a=0$ or $b=0.$ This result is then applied to study the relationship between the structure of $R$ and certain automorphisms on $R$. To end this paper, we describe additive maps $d: R \longrightarrow R$ such that $d(u^2) = 2ud(u)$ where $u\in U,$ a nonzero $σ$-square closed Lie ideal of $R.$
Let a monoid $S$ act on a ring $R$ by injective endomorphisms and $A=A(R,S)$ denote the $S$-Cohn-Jordan extension of $R$. Some results relating finiteness conditions of $R$ and that of $A$ are presented. In particular necessary and sufficient conditions for $A$ to be left noetherian, to be left Bézout and to be left principal ideal ring are presented.
Let $K$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, $A = K[x_1,\dots,x_n]$ the polynomial ring, $R = K(x_1,\dots,x_n)$ the field of rational functions, and let $W_n(K) = \Der_{K}A$ be the Lie algebra of all $K$-derivations on $A$. If $D \in W_n(K),$ $D\not =0$ is linear (i.e. of the form $D = \sum_{i,j=1}^n a_{ij}x_j \frac{\partial}{\partial x_i}$) we give a description of the centralizer of $D$ in $W_n(K)$ and point out an algorithm for finding generators of $C_{W_n(K)}(D)$ as a module over the ring of constants in case when $D$ is the basic Weitzenboeck derivation. In more gener…
In this paper, we show that a map $δ$ over a triangular ring $\mathcal{T}$ satisfying $δ(ab+ba)=δ(a)b+a τ(b)+δ(b)a+bτ(a)$, for all $a,b\in \mathcal{T}$ and for some maps $τ$ over $\mathcal{T}$ satisfying $τ(ab+ba)=τ(a)b+a τ(b)+τ(b)a+bτ(a)$, is additive. Also, it is shown that a map $T$ on $\mathcal{T}$ satisfying $T(ab)=T(a)b=aT(b)$, for all $a,b\in \mathcal{T}$, is additive. Further, we establish that if a map $D$ over $\mathcal{T}$ satisfies $(m+n)D(ab)=2mD(a)b+2naD(b)$, for all $a,b\in \mathcal{T}$ and integers $m,n\geq 1$, then $D$ is additive.
In the present paper we prove that every 2-local inner derivation on the matrix ring over a commutative ring is an inner derivation and every derivation on an associative ring has an extension to a derivation on the matrix ring over this associative ring. We also develop a Jordan analog of the above method and prove that every 2-local inner derivation on the Jordan matrix ring over a commutative ring is a derivation.
Let $A$ and $B$ be unital rings. An additive map $T:A\to B$ is called a weighted Jordan homomorphism if $c=T(1)$ is an invertible central element and $cT(x^2) = T(x)^2$ for all $x\in A$. We provide assumptions, which are in particular fulfilled when $A=B=M_n(R)$ with $n\ge 2$ and $R$ any unital ring with $\frac{1}{2}$, under which every surjective additive map $T:A\to B$ with the property that $T(x)T(y)+T(y)T(x)=0$ whenever $xy=yx=0$ is a weighted Jordan homomorphism. Further, we show that if $A$ is a prime ring with char$(A)\ne 2,3,5$, then a bijective additive map $T:A\to A$ is a weighted Jo…
Given a ring homomorphism $B \to A$, consider its centralizer $R = A^B$, bimodule endomorphism ring $S = \End {}_BA_B$ and sub-tensor-square ring $T = (A ø_B A)^B$. Nonassociative tensoring by the cyclic modules $R_T$ or ${}_SR$ leads to an equivalence of categories inverse to the functors of induction of restricted $A$-modules or restricted coinduction of $B$-modules in case $A \| B$ is separable, H-separable, split or left depth two (D2). If $R_T$ or ${}_SR$ are projective, this property characterizes separability or splitness for a ring extension. Only in the case of H-separability is $R_T$…
The notion of derivation with invertible values as a derivation of ring with unity that only takes multiplicatively invertible or zero values appeared in a paper of Bergen, Herstein and Lanski, in which they determined the structure of associative rings that admit derivations with invertible values. Later, the results of this paper were generalized in many cases, for example, for generalized derivations, associative super-algebras, alternative algebras and many others. The present work is dedicated to description of all Jordan algebras admitting derivations with invertible values.
Let C be a commutative ring with unity. In this article, we show that every Jordan derivation over an upper triangular matrix algebra T_n(C) is an inner derivation. Further, we extend the result for Jordan derivation on full matrix algebra M_n(C).
Let $\Mn$ be the ring of all $n \times n$ matrices over a unital ring $\mathcal{R}$, let $\mathcal{M}$ be a 2-torsion free unital $\Mn$-bimodule and let $D:\Mn\rightarrow \mathcal{M}$ be an additive map. We prove that if $D(\A)\B+ \A D(\B)+D(\B)\A+ \B D(\A)=0$ whenever $\A,\B\in \Mn$ are such that $\A\B=\B\A=0$, then $D(\A)=δ(\A)+\A D(\textbf{1})$, where $δ:\Mn\rightarrow \mathcal{M}$ is a derivation and $D(\textbf{1})$ lies in the centre of $\mathcal{M}$. It is also shown that $D$ is a generalized derivation if and only if $D(\A)\B+ \A D(\B)+D(\B)\A+ \B D(\A)-\A D(\textbf{1})\B-\B D(\textbf{1…
We construct Jordan algebras over a locally ringed space using generalizations of the Tits process and the first Tits construction by Achhammer. Some general results on the structure of these algebras are obtained. Examples of Albert algebras over a Brauer-Severi variety with associated central simple algebra of degree 3 are given.
In this article, we show that every Jordan {g, h}-derivation over T_n(C) is a {g, h}-derivation under an assumption, where C is a commutative ring with unity 1 not equal to 0. We give an example of a Jordan {g, h}-derivation over T_n(C) which is not a {g, h}-derivation. Also, we study Jordan {g, h}-derivation over M_n(C).
