We study generating series of torus integrals that contain all so-called modular graph forms relevant for massless one-loop closed-string amplitudes. By analysing the differential equation of the generating series we construct a solution for its low-energy expansion to all orders in the inverse string tension $α'$. Our solution is expressed through initial data involving multiple zeta values and certain real-analytic functions of the modular parameter of the torus. These functions are built from real and imaginary parts of holomorphic iterated Eisenstein integrals and should be closely related to Brown's recent construction of real-analytic modular forms. We study the properties of our real-analytic objects in detail and give explicit examples to a fixed order in the $α'$-expansion. In particular, our solution allows for a counting of linearly independent modular graph forms at a given weight, confirming previous partial results and giving predictions for higher, hitherto unexplored weights. It also sheds new light on the topic of uniform transcendentality of the $α'$-expansion.
We consider special Lambert series as generating functions of divisor sums and determine their complete transseries expansion near rational roots of unity. Our methods also yield new insights into the Laurent expansions and modularity properties of iterated Eisenstein integrals that have recently attracted attention in the context of certain period integrals and string theory scattering amplitudes.
The low-energy expansion of closed-string scattering amplitudes at genus one introduces infinite families of non-holomorphic modular forms called modular graph forms. Their differential and number-theoretic properties motivated Brown's alternative construction of non-holomorphic modular forms in the recent mathematics literature from so-called equivariant iterated Eisenstein integrals. In this work, we provide the first validations beyond depth one of Brown's conjecture that equivariant iterated Eisenstein integrals contain modular graph forms. Apart from a variety of examples at depth two and…
We present algorithms to work with iterated Eisenstein integrals that have recently appeared in the computation of multi-loop Feynman integrals. These algorithms allow one to analytically continue these integrals to all regions of the parameter space, and to obtain fast converging series representations in each region. We illustrate our approach on the examples of hypergeometric functions that evaluate to iterated Eisenstein integrals as well as the well-known sunrise graph.
We continue the analysis of modular invariant functions, subject to inhomogeneous Laplace eigenvalue equations, that were determined in terms of Poincaré series in a companion paper. The source term of the Laplace equation is a product of (derivatives of) two non-holomorphic Eisenstein series whence the modular invariants are assigned depth two. These modular invariant functions can sometimes be expressed in terms of single-valued iterated integrals of holomorphic Eisenstein series as they appear in generating series of modular graph forms. We show that the set of iterated integrals of Eisenst…
We derive new Poincaré-series representations for infinite families of non-holomorphic modular invariant functions that include modular graph forms as they appear in the low-energy expansion of closed-string scattering amplitudes at genus one. The Poincaré series are constructed from iterated integrals over single holomorphic Eisenstein series and their complex conjugates, decorated by suitable combinations of zeta values. We evaluate the Poincaré sums over these iterated Eisenstein integrals of depth one and deduce new representations for all modular graph forms built from iterated Eisenstein…
Elliptic modular graph forms (eMGFs) are non-holomorphic modular forms depending on a modular parameter $τ$ of a torus and marked points $z$ thereon. Traditionally, eMGFs are constructed from nested lattice sums over the discrete momenta on the worldsheet torus in closed-string genus-one amplitudes. In this work, we develop methods to translate the lattice-sum realization of eMGFs into iterated integrals over modular parameters $τ$ of the torus with particular focus on cases with one marked point. Such iterated-integral representations manifest algebraic and differential relations among eMGFs …
This paper provides a simple method to extract the zeros of some weight two Eisenstein series of level $N$ where $N=2,3,5$ and $7$. The method is based on the observation that these Eisenstein series are integral over the graded algebra of modular forms on $SL(2,Z)$ and their zeros are `controlled' by those of $E_4$ and $E_6$ in the fundamental domain of $Γ_0(N)$.
The partition function of a massless scalar field on a Euclidean spacetime manifold $\mathbb{R}^{d-1}\times\mathbb{T}^2$ and with momentum operator in the compact spatial dimension coupled through a purely imaginary chemical potential is computed. It is modular covariant and admits a simple expression in terms of a real analytic SL$(2,\mathbb{Z})$ Eisenstein series with $s=(d+1)/2$. Different techniques for computing the partition function illustrate complementary aspects of the Eisenstein series: the functional approach gives its series representation, the operator approach yields its Fourier…
We compute fully analytic results for the three-loop diagrams involving two different massive quark flavours contributing to the $ρ$ parameter in the Standard Model. We find that the results involve exactly the same class of functions that appears in the well-known sunrise and banana graphs, namely elliptic polylogarithms and iterated integrals of modular forms. Using recent developments in the understanding of these functions, we analytically continue all the iterated integrals of modular forms to all regions of the parameter space, and in each region we obtain manifestly real and fast-conver…
