This paper aims to explore the problem of trajectory prediction in heterogeneous pedestrian zones, where social dynamics representation is a big challenge. Proposed is an end-to-end learning framework for prediction accuracy improvement based on an attention mechanism to learn social interaction from multi-factor inputs.

As a core technology of the autonomous driving system, pedestrian trajectory prediction can significantly enhance the function of active vehicle safety and reduce road traffic injuries. In traffic scenes, when encountering with oncoming people, pedestrians may make sudden turns or stop immediately, which often leads to complicated trajectories. To predict such unpredictable trajectories, we can gain insights into the interaction between pedestrians. In this paper, we present a novel generative method named Spatial Interaction Transformer (SIT), which learns the spatio-temporal correlation of p…
Predicting pedestrian movement is critical for human behavior analysis and also for safe and efficient human-agent interactions. However, despite significant advancements, it is still challenging for existing approaches to capture the uncertainty and multimodality of human navigation decision making. In this paper, we propose SocialVAE, a novel approach for human trajectory prediction. The core of SocialVAE is a timewise variational autoencoder architecture that exploits stochastic recurrent neural networks to perform prediction, combined with a social attention mechanism and a backward poster…
This paper presents a novel incremental learning algorithm for pedestrian motion prediction, with the ability to improve the learned model over time when data is incrementally available. In this setup, trajectories are modeled as simple segments called motion primitives. Transitions between motion primitives are modeled as Gaussian Processes. When new data is available, the motion primitives learned from the new data are compared with the previous ones by measuring the inner product of the motion primitive vectors. Similar motion primitives and transitions are fused and novel motion primitives…

Pedestrian motion behavior involves a combination of individual goals and social interactions with other agents. In this article, we present an asymmetrical bidirectional recurrent neural network architecture called U-RNN to encode pedestrian trajectories and evaluate its relevance to replace LSTMs for various forecasting models. Experimental results on the Trajnet++ benchmark show that the U-LSTM variant yields better results regarding every available metrics (ADE, FDE, Collision rate) than common trajectory encoders for a variety of approaches and interaction modules, suggesting that the pro…
Pedestrian trajectory prediction for surveillance video is one of the important research topics in the field of computer vision and a key technology of intelligent surveillance systems. Social relationship among pedestrians is a key factor influencing pedestrian walking patterns but was mostly ignored in the literature. Pedestrians with different social relationships play different roles in the motion decision of target pedestrian. Motivated by this idea, we propose a Social Relationship Attention LSTM (SRA-LSTM) model to predict future trajectories. We design a social relationship encoder to …

Accurate, long-term forecasting of pedestrian trajectories in highly dynamic and interactive scenes is a long-standing challenge. Recent advances in using data-driven approaches have achieved significant improvements in terms of prediction accuracy. However, the lack of group-aware analysis has limited the performance of forecasting models. This is especially nonnegligible in highly crowded scenes, where pedestrians are moving in groups and the interactions between groups are extremely complex and dynamic. In this paper, we present Grouptron, a multi-scale dynamic forecasting framework that le…

Human motion prediction is key to understand social environments, with direct applications in robotics, surveillance, etc. We present a simple yet effective pedestrian trajectory prediction model aimed at pedestrians positions prediction in urban-like environments conditioned by the environment: map and surround agents. Our model is a neural-based architecture that can run several layers of attention blocks and transformers in an iterative sequential fashion, allowing to capture the important features in the environment that improve prediction. We show that without explicit introduction of soc…
Pedestrian trajectory prediction is a critical to avoid autonomous driving collision. But this prediction is a challenging problem due to social forces and cluttered scenes. Such human-human and human-space interactions lead to many socially plausible trajectories. In this paper, we propose a novel LSTM-based algorithm. We tackle the problem by considering the static scene and pedestrian which combine the Graph Convolutional Networks and Temporal Convolutional Networks to extract features from pedestrians. Each pedestrian in the scene is regarded as a node, and we can obtain the relationship b…
